 Title: A Dupes Life Author: MaxwellsGurlUK Disclaimer: I own nothing. Summary: You've had Roswell. Now here is Zan and the dupes life. It was tough for them. This is the story of my life. Not much because it didn’t last very long, they think I’m dead. The very people I put my trust in think I’m dead at their hands. They tried to kill me but I was quicker. So here I am, talking all-proper and at least I’m alive more than they are from what Ava told me. I wanted to go to Roswell to meet my the dupes of my family. Yeah I still consider them family even though they tried to kill me. To understand our freaky relationship you have to start at the beginning. I was the first to come out of the pods. I was always the first, the mighty leader Zan. Back then I was leader even though I was only newborn. I looked around and found myself in a ratty sub sewer with the other pods against the back walls. Lonnie was next then Rath and finally Ava. I didn’t understand a word of English and I was completely naked as I took their hands and led them away from the sewer. The streets were cold and people where nasty and cruel. They were laughing at us as we walked, we got so scared we ran back to the sewer and huddled together to keep warm. I wrapped them in an old blanket that had been thrown out by some one. I didn’t even think to make myself warm, my only concern was them. My family. I knew that word even before I could speak English and it was all that was important to me. They slept and I stood guard in case any of those scary people came to hurt my family. I shivered because I was still naked at the time. A boy came wandering into the sewer looking for warmth, this was his place and he was surprised to see me there. I was just as shocked as him “Wot yous doing in ma crib!” he snapped angrily but I didn’t understand him “and whys you naked?” his eyes went down then returned back up. He shoved me and spotted the others wrapped up “Wot theys doin’ in me blanket!” he hissed shoving me again. I grew angry and I put my hand on his chest to shove him but I got a rush of images and I felt myself jump in shock and the next thing I knew he was on the floor. I took his clothes and try to get them on but they didn’t fit me. I took hold of Rath’s feet and pulled the pants on him. I put the shirt on him and put the men’s jacket on me to head out and look for some more clothes. I took Rath with me. The streets were quieter at night and empty. There were very few people about. It was the rough part of New York and we walked along holding hands, scared out of our wits in case anything happened to us and we would never see the girls again. A cop was in his car driving along, at the time we didn’t know he was a cop so when he stopped we were shocked “What are you kids doing here at this time of night?” he asked. Obviously not from around here “Where are your parents?” we didn’t understand at all so we turned and walked on “Hey… hey wait a minute. Do you want me to help you find your parents?” he asked and Rath blinked. He reached out and put his hand on Rath’s shoulder causing him to scream with fear. I pulled Rath away from him and put my hand up at him “It’s okay… shush” he coaxed trying to get us to go in his car. Rath looked at me and I shook my head and he got behind me. We walked backwards slowly but he kept edging towards us. We got back to the sewer and he saw Lonnie and Ava cowering together to keep warm under the blanket. “Listen kid I gotta take you back to the station because your parents must be missing you” he grabbed at Rath and picked him up kicking and screaming. I tried to get him to let go of Rath but it was no good. He called on the radio to get some one else to pick us up. I huddled with Lonnie and Ava till the next cop came. I backed them up against the wall and kicked and bit and screamed but to no avail. They took us down to the station and I held their hands, I spotted Rath sat on a bench with a lady who, best described, looked like a civil servant. I saw Rath and he saw us and pulled away from the lady and ran to us and hugged us. All four of us hugged in the middle of the station. They tried to give us earth names after they taught us English. They called Rath John, Lonnie Sarah, Ava Hannah and me Toby. Those names would never stick, they dumped us into a home for lost and abandoned children and left us to fend for ourselves. We each got a bed, clean water and a hot meal and it wasn’t a bad deal. Lonnie and Ava got a bed in the girl’s hall and Rath and me got a bed in the boy’s hall. But we didn’t follow rules; we were never the ones to follow orders. We crept to the girl’s hall and pushed Lonnie and Ava’s bed together because they were side by side. We got in a spent the night with them sleeping. Sometimes I couldn’t sleep and I would stay awake in case the scary people came back to try and get us. These kids were my family, my brothers and sisters and I wouldn’t let anything happen to them. The first proper time they tried to split us up was when a middle aged couple came looking for daughters. They didn’t want boys and they wanted Lonnie and some other girl, err Lisa I think, anyway they were about to take her but Ava took hold of her hand and shook her head. Rath and me were playing in the sand and we knew, we looked up and saw these people talking to our sisters. We were up in a second and by our sister’s sides. “Oh my there’s four of them,” said the woman. I was angry for even thinking she could take my sister Lonnie. “Rah!” I growled angrily trying to frighten them off “Rah!” “Oh look he’s trying to scare us off,” laughed the man as he patted my head and I snapped my head back and tried to bit him. He whipped his hand back in shock and disgust “He’s rabid!” gasped the man “We better get these other kids away from him in case he tries to hurt them!” they were accusing me of being dangerous to my sisters and brother. Ava screamed as he picked her up and Rath leapt on the woman and I launched at the guy and got Ava away from him. The lady who ran the home for abandoned children called us into her office we were never separated. But this occasion it was just me. They waited outside “Toby…” she began “Its Zan! My name is Zan” I interrupted her “Zan… you mustn’t try and bite people. Do you want Hannah and Sarah to be happy?” “Who the hell are Hannah and Sarah?” “Your sisters. Do you want them to be happy?” she asked “Their names are Lonnie and Ava and if you think of calling Rath John don’t because that isn’t his name! And they are happy as long as they’re with me. They aren’t leaving me, we were born together and they aren’t going to leave me” “Tob…Zan they can’t stay here. They need a family, I know you love them but you can’t keep them here. It isn’t fair to them” “I am their family. It is fair, they scream when they think they are going to be parted from me. I’m not going to let some stupid couple take them” “Zan you’re only seven” she sighed “A couple is coming down tomorrow and I want you to let them see if they will take Ava, Lonnie or Rath or even you. Just let it happen” “Okay. I’ll try” I fibbed. I got off the chair and found the others waiting outside for me “Well! What did she say Zan?” asked Ava “There is a family coming down. They want to take one of us… she wants to ‘let it happen!’ I’m not staying here. I’m going back to the sewer were we were born” “Back with the scary people?” asked Rath remembering full well all the people on the street. “Do you want to stay here were they split us up? We could never see each other again!” I stated almost raising my voice into a shout. “Come on” ordered Lonnie as she led us to the food canteen hall. It was deserted and we sat on the table in the middle of the room. “Have you done anything odd?” asked Ava and we all exchanged glances “Odd how?” inquired Rath “Odd. Alien. Different. Strange. Weird. All of the above?” stated Lonnie knowing too well about the all-of-the-above deal we had. “When we were in the sewer and before the words came a boy came in and found us in his crib. He shoved me, he was going to hurt you. I shoved him back but I got images from him and then he was on the floor. He didn’t move I think he went on to the lady in the sky. The lady in the sky was like our god. It was a statue of the Virgin Mary that rested on the shelf above the door of the canteen. “You sent him to the Lady In The Sky!” gasped Ava in shock “How” asked Rath his eyes going narrow as he watched me I raised my hand and laid it down on the brown painted table and changed it to blue. “Oh” whispered Lonnie. She put her hand on the table and it changed to pink. Ava put her hand on the table and it changed back to brown. Rath put his hand on the table and it caught fire. “Whoa!” I cried jumping off the table and putting the fire out. “We can’t stay here. If they find out we’re different they’ll kill us, you remember the scary people?” “Would they really do that to us?” “They put us in here. They think they can do anything, but they can’t. I just wish I could remember before the dark and the scary people and that boy” “Me too. I know I should be remembering something important but I can’t” “Zan don’t let them take me away” asked Ava. I remembered the unshed tears making her eyes beautiful. I looked down my face reddened then looked back at her “Never. I love you too much to let that happen” the bell rang and the kids piled into the canteen and found the burnt table we were sat at. We tried to deny it but Ms Harrison blamed us and we had to pay for it by cleaning up. We cleaned the dishes away but I decided to cheat. I forgot about the other two boys who had been naughty at lunch and they saw me using my powers. I waved my hands over the pile of dirty dishes and they became clean in an instant “Cool!” cried Tommy “How did you do that!” asked Jamie and Rath looked at me knowing I had used my powers. “You used them didn’t you” he asked and I hung my head guiltily “Why did you do that?” asked Lonnie angrily “I just wanted to clean the dishes quickly. You do it to your so we can go!” “We’re going now?” asked Ava “Your running away from the home?” asked Jamie surprised. Rath put his hand on his shoulder and he fell to the floor” “Is he dead?” gasped Ava “No just knocked out,” stated Rath turning his attention to Tommy “Get away from me!” he yelled as he turned to run but Lonnie caught him and knocked him out. “Lets go!” she stated reaching out for my hand. I put my hand out to Ava and Rath and they took my hands “Are you sure he’s okay?” Lonnie did something through our connection and she shut up. I didn’t do anything about it and maybe I would still be alive to them. The sewer was still the way we had left it several days earlier. The boy had been taken away though and some of the stuff had been cleared away but the couch was still there. Nothing we couldn’t fix. We strengthened the wall and painted it black with our hands. We tidied the couch up till it looked respectable and we found out it was a fold out. Lonnie found a mirror in the trash and I didn’t realise at the time that it was a big mistake. She hadn’t looked in a mirror since she had come out of the pods. To think of it she hadn’t seen a mirror before she found that one. “Wow! Is this what I look like!” she smiled as she admired herself. We all went over to see what we looked like. Rath had short brown hair, I watched him crumple his nose up “I don’t like it. I want to change my hair” “Are you sure?” asked Ava as he reached up and it changed. He put a purple stripe down the middle of his hair and he made it longer slightly. “Nice!” I lied not liking his new do. Lonnie frowned in the mirror at her shoulder length blonde hair. She waved it and it turned brown she shortened it so it was just behind her ears. “I don’t like it!” Ava turned her nose up at Lonnie “Well it’s not your head!” she snapped angrily “Sorry little sister” “No I’m sorry Lonnie I shouldn’t have said that. It was wrong of me” smiled Ava “Can I look in the mirror? I want to change my hair” she had pretty blonde curly hair but she changed it to white blonde with pink streaks “It suits you” smiled Rath giving her a kiss on her head “how about you, man?” he took the mirror off Ava and handed it to me. I saw my face for the first time and liked it, my hair was jet black and I had incredible amber eyes. I made my hair slightly longer and spiked it with very thin white defining streaks that looked like a shine. “Hmm I love it!” smiled Ava and she wrapped her arms around me planting her lips on mine. She stopped trying to kiss me and sat back with red cheeks. “Do you think she isn’t your sister?” asked Rath trying to remember something and straining his eyes. “Can you remember something?” I asked him as his brow uncreased from the strain of recollection. “You” he looked at me then he turned to Ava “and you. But you were much older and you were getting married” “That means were not brother and sister. We’re married” I looked down “Are you sure Rath?” “I’m positive. Me and Lonnie were there and she was wearing a crown” “A crown!” she looked up “Like a queen or a princess?” she smiled hopefully at the thought of being regal. “Yeah but it could have been fancy dress. That would explain why they were getting married” “Yeah but how do you explain about the age?” I didn’t want him to put down the memory when it was something to who we were. “I dunno. Who cares!” he sat down on the couch next to Lonnie and snuggled up to fall asleep. It was getting late and we were getting bored, there wasn’t anything to do and we were getting hungry “Do you want to see if we can grab some food?” I asked “Do you mean steal? Are we going to steal for food?” Lonnie inquired, “Can I come with you?” “Sure Rath’s asleep and I need an extra pair of hands or two” I smiled at Ava while I said it and Lonnie just rolled her eyes. “Sure, is it like a date?” she whispered as we left “Lonnie why don’t you stay with Rath. I don’t want anyone stumbling on him and trying to steal from him or hurt him” “Okay Zan” she frowned but did as she was told. I took hold of Ava’s hand and we went out. We had been walking hand in hand for a while before we came across a pizzeria. I went in and she followed. “Hey kids, Wot da ya want?” he asked with a clear New York accent “Pizza with everything on it. The biggest one you got coz we’re hungry” “Are yous going to be payin for dat?” he asked and I didn’t understand “Pay what is pay?” I asked “Money!” he snapped “Yous gots money right, gee?” “What is money?” “Come back wiv ya parents” he ordered angrily “We don’t have parents” “Oh yous orphans? I don’t do charity!” he said gruffly “We need food and we’re very hungry. Puh lease!” begged Ava trying to make him say yes. She could feel energy seeping out of her I could feel it too. “Sure the biggest pizza coming up!” he smiled at us “How did you do that?” I asked her in a whisper “I don’t know. I just wanted him to say yes and he did” “Maybe you can get other people to give us free stuff too” “I dunno I feel kind of drained” “Well I’ll give you energy. I can hold your hand” I smiled at her. The chef came back and handed us the box and smiled at us “Come back if ya need any fing else!” he grinned and went to answer the phone. I carried the box but when a gang of hungry kids jumped out to steal the pizza box. I handed it to Ava and raised my hand out them “Get back!” I roared angrily in thinking they could even try and steal from me “Wot yous going to do kid! Now gimme da pizza!” the gang leader went forward at Ava but I blasted him sending him sprawling into his gang. “Come on! Lets go get home!” I grabbed the box and Ava’s hand and pulled her into a run. “What happened?” asked Lonnie taking the box and handing it to Rath. He opened it and grinned, he picked up a slice and took a bite. “A gang jumped us. Ava has a new power” “You’re kidding! What is it!” I could sense the jealous rolling off her “I fink I’ll call it Mindwarping” she stated as she flopped down next to Rath and took a slice of pizza. Lonnie crossed her arms and frowned “I fink wes should gets some money to pay for fings” “What’s money? What is paying?” asked Rath “I dunno but the pizza guy said we need money to pay for fings. I fink we should get some” “Do you know how to Zan?” asked Lonnie “No but we can find out or we could make some. If we can change colours of fings and blast and mindwarp I’m sure we can make it what ever it is” I was naïve at the time. We chowed down on the pizza but it tasted flavourless and drab. We didn’t have anything to make it taste better so we just ate it and tried to bunk down for the night. The wind was cold and cruel and we tried to keep as warm as possible. Ava and Lonnie had already fallen asleep under the blanket leaving Rath and me wide-awake. I got up and pulled some dirty papers together and put the pizza the box on the floor and set it alight with my powers. He came and sat next to me and huddled up “Do you remember anything from the time before the pods?” he asked me as he rested his head on my shoulder. “No not much except my wedding. Do you think we’re not human?” I looked directly into his face “No, I guess we’re not. Humans can’t do the stuff we do and they don’t come out of pods. I wonder why we were put here and why we don’t have parents. We must have had parents sometime” “I know but there’s so many questions. How are we ever going to find the answers? We have no clues” “When we were at the home I read some fing about aliens and there was this big crash in Roswell. Do you think we could have been on that ship?” “Who knows? We could have been. We have no proof where we come from we don’t have earth names, we don’t know several earth terms, we could from pods and we have freaky powers!” “You think our powers are freaky?” he asked taking his head off my shoulder “A little. I just want to fit in you know have parents and be loved like a son and I want you three to be my brother and sisters. I know I’m s’posed to be married to Ava but I love her more as a sister than a wife. It feels weird that she’s not my sister and it’s driving me insane that I don’t know if you or Lonnie are my real family” “Me too, man. Me too” he huddled back up and soon he fell asleep. I dragged him back to the fold out couch and pulled him on and put the blanket over him. I checked on all of them and brushed the hair out of their eyes and smiled. This was my family and these were the people who had betrayed me because they wanted to go home to a man who would most likely kill them. Ava didn’t want to go, we all knew it but she was scared she was scared of my older sister Lonnie. The next day Rath was the first to wake up. It was strange but I didn’t mind, he woke me up with a good shake and said he was off to get breakfast. I tried to pull my jacket on but he was already gone. I couldn’t leave the girls because they were still sleeping so I woke them up and left. I found Rath on the street rocking back and forward cradling his head. It was that gang who had tried to take the pizza from Ava and me last night. They picked on him and attacked him because he wasn’t quick enough plus they had crept up on him from behind. He was only seven at the time, just a little boy. I crouched down next to him and put my hand on his shoulder. He quickly turned and wrapped his arms around me and cried into my stomach. He had a large cut above his eyebrow and a split lip; he didn’t stop crying, which brought the gang back over. I held him and tried to stop him from crying so I didn’t have to face them, I was as scared as he was but I wouldn’t let them hurt him no not again. I pulled away from him and stood up in front of him. “Oh its you again! Big man!” sneered the leader as he rubbed his back “Yous cost me and ma gang a good meal! Yous going to pay for dat!” the gang surrounded us but I held my ground. Rath stood up next to me and hissed in breath. He was ready to go up against them too “Yous first!” he pointed at me and leapt. I put my hand out and blasted him so hard he disappeared over the building on the opposite side of the street. I was weak from the energy burst but I tried not to show it. “How did yous do dat!” asked the second guy in charge “Magic!” I rasped “Do yous want some!” they ran off pretty quickly and I felt my legs go out underneath me. I didn’t have enough strength to keep my legs straight, but Rath helped me and got me back to the sewer “Oh my god! What the hell happened to yous?” gasped Lonnie as she saw Rath half carrying me, half dragging me into the sewer. “It was a gang. The gang from last night!” I stated and Ava gulped “Did they do this to you? What did they do to your legs?” “Nothing I did it to myself. I blasted the leader and used so much energy I couldn’t stand. Rath got me home!” Lonnie helped me get to the couch “Did you manage to get breakfast?” asked Lonnie thinking of her stomach at a time like that, which made me laugh. I pulled Rath down next to me and healed the cut and the split lip I tried to rest. But I wasn’t happy when Lonnie suggested she go out and get food. I could feel the anger and some jealousy pouring off her because they had done this to me. She was angry and I couldn’t understand why. Ava played nurse when Lonnie came back with the food. Even though she was starving she gave me her portion of the bread and made me eat it. She really cared about me and from time to time I miss her just a little. “Eat it!” she snapped angrily “No you’ll get hungry!” I protested but she forced the bread into my mouth so I couldn’t say anything else. I chewed and she shoved some more bread into my mouth, I chewed and swallowed it down. She kissed me and my eyes opened wide, I heard a gasp from Lonnie and Rath. She pulled back and looked at the others “What? I love him,” she stated and I gasped. Rath smirked but Lonnie sneered at Ava, she was angry and again I had no idea why. I got my energy back after Ava’s TLC and I was back on my feet and looking for money. We all headed out looking for money and how to get lots of it. We separated into two teams and Ava was dying to team up with me but I wanted to talk to Lonnie and figure out why she was so angry. We walked along the filthy streets and she said nothing “Lonnie what’s wrong?” I asked her and she stopped “Nothing!” she spat roughly “Look I know some fing’s going on and I wanna know wot it is!” I replied and she turned and looked at me “It’s you and Ava. We don’t know if you’re her brother and she’s kissing you and playing nursie. It makes me sick, and you actually like her doing it! You get so much attention Rath see’s you as a god and it’s making me mighty pissed off!” “Your jealous of me!” I smiled wildly “I can’t believe it! I live in a sewer, I don’t know where I come from or who my parents are or why I’m an alien freak! I’m sorry that Rath and Ava have respect for me but that’s because I’m loosing sleep just to protect them and you! I care about you, all of you and I don’t care if you feel jealous but if you want them to like you I suggest you do something to make them respect you. Go for breakfast or save Rath’s butt from a bad gang but don’t be pissed at me just coz they like me!” I continued walking “Zan I’ll get the money. I’ll do what ever it takes to get the money for you and the others” she was so determined and kind. It made me love her even more “First we need to figure out how to get the money before we can get any” “Sure. I’ve been thinking about this for a while” “Thinking about what?” I asked her looking very curious “Well the lady who ran the home left at night in a car. You have to pay for a car so maybe if we get a job they will pay us” “So we’re looking for people to work for. Maybe we can find a shop or something” “Shall we find the others to tell them?” “No you need the job to bring in money, you want them to respect you then you need to do this” I smiled at her and put my hand on her shoulder. A flash car rolled to a stop next to us and if I knew who they were at the time I would have stopped her from going. “Hey kid! Come here!” ordered the man inside Lonnie wandered over to the car and he whispered something to her and she frowned a little but she asked something quite clearly “Will I get paid? Will you give me money?” “Of course,” he played with her hair and she looked back at me then walked back and hugged me “He wants me to go and have sex. I don’t know what it is but he says he’ll pay me for it” “Just be careful I don’t trust him. I love you do good and use your powers if you get in trouble” she went to the car and got in. I was fearful that she wouldn’t return but she did. She walked into the sewer and sat down on the couch. She didn’t say a word for a week after it but she just handed the money to me. I heard her crying at night and it broke my heart that I had told her to do something that had made her so upset. It was my fault so I told the others not to have sex with anyone even if they gave us a lot of money. But Ava ignored me when she and Rath went out to get pizza. She came back crying the next morning. She gave us several tens of money but she was so sad and I couldn’t do anything about it. I wanted to know what made the two women I cared about so upset and afraid of this world. Lonnie wasn’t the same after that. She didn’t tell me her problems and she got really touchy if I gave her a hug or patted her shoulder. I went out to the spot Lonnie and Ava had gone and waited for the man to come. He came and frowned when he saw me instead of the others “Where’s the special little girls?” he asked with disappointment “I’m here. Yous take me or no one at all” “I’ll suppose you’ll do” he frowned and opened the car door. I climbed in and sat on the opposite side. He sat down next to me and began playing with my hair, “You look so much like little Lonnie” he smiled and pressed his mouth against mine. I was shocked at first. My eyes widened and it was nothing like kissing Ava, his tongue attacked mine and I gagged. He took hold of my dirty jeans that I had been wearing since the home and he undid the zip. This wasn’t so bad, why were they so upset? But then he undid my shorts too and took hold of my bits. I gasped and I realised what had made them upset when he began sucking on it. I began crying right there and he laughed. I wanted to him to hurt just to make him stop laughing. I was so angry with him and the tears that streamed down my face. I felt the strange feeling build up and wash over me. Leaving me weak and freakish. “Hmm you are like the others. I wonder what’s so special about you three that makes me feel like this. I shall have to do some more experiments” he flipped me over onto my back and forced his way into my butt but I screamed in pain and turned over and blasted him. He hit the back seat of the limo and slumped down. I shouted stop and then jumped out, I climbed back in snatched up my pants and stole his wallet and ran for it. I managed to get back to the sewer after taking so many wrong turns. I came in a found that they had salvaged an old pool table they could use as a table to eat off. Ava had been wandering and she had wandered into the good part of town and found nice houses with a family eating from a big table. She protested that we must have a dinner table even if it was a snooker table that someone had thrown out. I gave Rath the wallet and got into bed. We needed a shower or something to use to get cleaned with because I felt so dirty. I asked them about it but they shrugged it off “Yeah a shower would be good,” said Lonnie a few days later. She had been looking in the broken mirror we had melded to the wall. I wanted new clothes because I was getting mighty sick of the clothes I had received off the home. We were all getting bigger and I surprised Rath with a birthday party after finding out what a party was from a group of people celebrating in a park. I got a penknife from the trash and fixed it then carved the date into the bottom of Rath’s pod. That was his birthday and we had two pizza’s that night and root beer and milk. It was a real party .We stole a CD player but we didn’t have any CD’s to play on it but there was a radio, Ava was the first one to figure out how to use it, luckily before Lonnie smashed it. We danced and we were happy for a while. It didn’t last though, the next day the police came round because there had been rumours that someone was living out here and they weren’t happy. Ava mindwarped them into thinking we weren’t here then they left. Lonnie got angry again but this time I couldn’t fix it. I felt guilty at the thought of trying to fix it after what happened last time. “Zan I want to go home,” she said one night as we were eating our burgers that tasted so plain “Lonnie we don’t even know where home is. I f we could go home I would take you but it isn’t safe. Nahhh! This is driving me insane! I don’t even know why it isn’t safe!” “Maybe we could do something to help us remember? Ava is the mind wonder” she sneered as she said it “Get her to do something. Zan remembered the wedding so the memory must be there somewhere. Come on Ava do that mind magic!” she laughed and Ava reached out and took my hand. ~*I could see everything she could see. We were older and I was wearing a big crown and Rath was kneeling next to me, no he was dying next to me. I couldn’t do anything and Ava was already dead. The city gates opened and in came Lonnie holding hands with a man I hated but I couldn’t think why. He pushed Lonnie in front of me and blasted the both of us, killing us instantly*~ She pulled her hand away and looked at Lonnie then looked down. I looked down too because I was thinking the same thought. She betrayed us she was the enemy. Is she the enemy now? “What?” she snapped angrily knowing something was wrong “Nothing. I didn’t see anything” she lied and Lonnie looked at me “I know you saw something now tell me! Did I die? Did I get married to Zan too? What? What is it?” I was getting angry of her shouting and I jumped up and confronted her “You killed us! You betrayed us and we were killed. You’re the enemy!” she stopped shouting and sat down in shock. “No. I can’t be, I would never” “But you did…” Ava interrupted her and Lonnie sneered at her “No one asked you” “Yeah but it was my funeral! I was the first to die and it was your fault!” she stood up to Lonnie for the first time and I sort of felt proud of Ava. She was always frightened but standing up to Lonnie was big. I’ll say this now I was slightly scared of Lonnie too and even though I was big king Zan I didn’t have the guts to stand up to my big sister. She was like an evil alley cat on heat or something. “I’m sorry. You don’t think I would do it again do you? It was in the past it was a memory please Zan I’m sorry” she was sincere at the time so I forgave her. But Ava was weary luckily for my sake. The days past and we did what we could. Every week we would head down to the church several blocks from the sewer and steal the clothes people left for charity. Charity wasn’t smart enough to have the people leave the clothes inside the church so it was her own fault we took the clothes. I never met Charity so I wasn’t bothered about the clothes she didn’t have. They fitted Ava and Lonnie perfectly and the clothes presumably for Charity’s brother fitted Rath and me to a T. But the clothes were a bit wild. Denim and leather but we didn’t mind, it was quite warm wearing the clothes so during the cold nights we would pull on the sweat pants and snuggle up on the couch. We got past the nasty sex man and we could finally hug each other without freaking out. So we were curled up on the couch all of us fast asleep and I was dreaming. It was some of my memories from the past. Lonnie appeared out of now where and knitted her brows. “Zan am I dreaming you or are you dreaming me?” “I don’t know. This is weird could you just get in my dream some how? Could it be a new power?” “I guess but it’s so weird” “Yeah we are aren’t we” I grinned and she smiled “You know what I mean. But what sort of power is this? The powers you have are all connected blasted and healing and changing colours why is this a power?” “Wait dreams are apart of the mind and so is the mindwarp. Maybe it is a power, it could be connected to the mindwarp” “You think” “Well try and do something then. See if you can drag up a memory?” I suggested and she put her hand up at the man standing at the back. She recognised him and despised him for some reason that me and Ava knew about. “I hate you Kivaar!” she hissed and for a second she seemed taller and older, she had long brown hair and she was dressed in black. She looked so strong and then she turned to me and I was wearing green silk and my reflection mirrored in her eyes. I was taller and my hair was gelled back and I was older and clean-shaven. Ava was standing next to me and she was looking so happy in a green silk dress similar to Lonnie’s. She looked so happy, but there was another boy there who looked exactly like me but he was completely different. He was holding hands with copies of Rath and Lonnie and he had three humans with him but they weren’t holding their hands they were playing. I saw the little girl with brown hair and I felt so much happiness and pride. She was playing with her friends, a boy and a girl. My copy called to her and she looked up “Liz!” he smiled and the girl next to her looked up and saw my copy there. Lonnie took hold of my shoulder and shook her head. “You belong here Zan. That isn’t our world, your future is with Ava” she stated and I held back and watched my copy reach his hand out for the brown haired girl and she took it and they got older. He looked so different to me from what I would look like when I would be older. The girl was beautiful, she had long brown straight hair and brown eyes and cutesy pie dimples. She had a neat smile on her face and she looked so happy, she was coming out a church with Rath, my copy, Lonnie and her friends. She cared about them so much and they cared for her. Lonnie was right that wasn’t my world, I was destined to die. I woke up the next morning and Lonnie had her hand on my forearm. Which explained how she had been in my dream “Well its your new power so you name it, Lonnie” and Rath just looked confused “I think I’ll call it dreamwalking” “Call what dreamwalking?” he asked “Lonnie has a new power” “Oh. When are we going to get new powers, man?” “I don’t know. Can’t you be happy for her its really strong!” I stretched and yawned “But she probably got most of my energy!” Part Two Next Week.

Part Two She drove us to the sewer to collect Rath and Lonnie. Lonnie was in a bad mood when I got there and she got even worse when I told her about the family Harad. Rath smiled quickly but that smile was gone after a few seconds. He looked pleased about my decision "Well I'm not going!" "Yes you are!" "Not!" she yelled back at me. "You almost killed Ava! Listen I don't want to stay here in this dump any longer its dangerous and I would rather stay in a place with disicpline and care. I want parents as much as Rath and Ava do I just don't know why you won't go!" "Because they're human! They aren't our parents! We belong here in the sewer!" "Ava is waiting in the car and I'm taking Rath with me. You can either stay here or come with us!" "Fine!" she snapped angrily as she crossed her arms and turned her back "Stubborn brat!" I muttered loud enough so she could hear me. I took Rath and left "Wheres your sister?" asked the lady "She didnt want to come with us..." "Wait Wait for me!" called Lonnie. She had tears running down her face and she was slightly out of breath "I want to go with you please don't leave me alone!" she hopped into the back of the car with us and hugged me! Actually hugged me "Don't leave me behind Zan I don't want to be on my own!" "Come on let's go meet this family" she started the car and drove off. Their house was on the good side of town. White picket fence and flowers along the gravel path. There was an apple tree in the corner of the front garden and they had a blue door. That was something else a family needed, a door. If we ever went back to the sewer we would get a door despite the fact I wouldn't know where to put it. The couple was waiting at the door and they had two kids already Lily and James. We called them Jim and Lil. The kids were running round and the parents were standing at the door "Hello you must be Rath?" she asked me. She spoke really proper "I'm Maureen Harad" "Hi I'm Zan, that's Rath this is Lonnie and Ava" she took one look at their hair and turned red. "My my!" she gasped "We have to do something about your hair! We won't have our children running round like that!" Our children? We had just got out the car and already we were her children "Now dear came down. They can have their hair any way they want. Hello Zan I'm Frank" I snorted. He looked like a Frank and all balding hair and thick glasses. The kids must have been embarrased to be theirs "Yeah I bet you are!" Ava giggled "Well come and see your rooms. Rath, Zan you'll be sharing with James and Lonnie and Ava will be sharing with Lillian" they took is inside and it was amazing. Clean carpets and school photos hanging on the wall, I know I shouldn't have my mouth was on the floor. It stayed there as we took the tour of their house. "It might not be so bad did you see the size of that mirror in Lil's room?" "Yeah did you see how many toys Jim's got? It's unbelievable!" "I'm hungry!" said Ava as she scrathed her stitches "Here I'll fix that for you" I put my hand on top of her head when no one was looking and healed her. "Thanks Zan!" she kissed me on the cheek and went itno Lil's room to play with her dolls. "Kids it's time for pizza!" called Frank. We had got settled in and the orphanage lady had left. We all ran down the stairs and saw this huge pizza coming oout the over on a fourteen inche pizza tray! It had everything! "Lillian you get the sauces and cutlery!" ordered Maureen as she cut it up "James you get the plates and napkins" Napkins? They had napkins with pizza? If we got dirty we'd wipe our faces with our hands then wipe whatever was on our hands onto our jeans. That was when we discovered Tabasco Lil got it out the cupboard and she was being a cow she undid the bottle and poured some on our pizza. We didn't reliase till it was to late and we chowed down on the most wonderful tasting pizza ever. "Why did you get this out? Lillian this is a cooking sauce" siad Maureen as she picked up the Tabasco "I thought my new brothers and sister would like some" she was close to tears and she sounded so sweet and innocent "Oh lord you put this on their pizza?" she poured several glasses of water for us but we didn't need them "Why what's wrong with Tabasco? It tastes really good with the pizza!" stated Lonnie "Are you sure? Tabasco is a spicy cooking sauce that burns your taste buds. You don't want to have any water?" "No we're fine" she sat down looking confused as we ate our pizza. It came to supper time and she pulled a large chocolate sponge cake out of the oven I took a quick peek inside to see how she could cook a 14" pizza and a 6" chocolate cake in the oven. She handed it out in dishes and then came the rows. All four of us reached for the Tabasco at the same time. "Hey get off I had it first!" "No! Maureen tell him I got it let go Zan!" "Both of you let go!" snapped Rath all three of us let go and Ava took it as we burst into argument! "Hey Zan! Catch!" she tossed it to me and I caught it before it smashed on the floor. "Hah!" I sneered as I poured a helpful amount on my cake. I handed it to Rath so Lonnie got it last. "You're all pigs you know that!" "Lonnie Harad go to your room now! We do not call people names in this house!" "Stupid human!" she hissed completely blowing our cover. TBC... Part Three Next Week
