A FEL Gig & Someone Else's gig
Now the lads themselves know of me and of a certain aspect of my, let's say, 'physical appearance', that can raise eyebrows and on occasion, trepidation. (No, I am not a ladyboy, nor a horned satanist...:evil ) - but I had this reaction swiftly and physically demonstrated this week when I took the opportunity to go all nostalgic and see an artist by the name of (------). The man himself is a complete gentleman and I had a long conversation on his return to music and I looked forward to the show, which was an acoustic evening of expression.
So far, so good and the show proceeded with much atmosphere and calm until I rose from the mostly seated audience and began to boogie with as much vehemence as one can when it's acoustic guitar providing the backdrop. (No pulsating Kostic kick here or Corey bass thump which provides a completely different response - i.e. complete abandon). Anyway, to cut it short, I ended up inspiring others to wobble on their toes and it was nice. Then came the fatal mistake of my expectation that I could say thank you, in this instance (----), and as I approached him, I was immediately gripped by two blokes around the neck, (I still can't speak without a lump battering about in my throat - no jokes please), carried from the club, against the backdrop of audience boo's and neatly placed facefirst into the concrete, upon which I rose and was punched in the face and that was it.
Hell, I understand the apparent element of security (ala Mark David Chapman) - but after seeing FEL so many times of late and the complete freedom of interaction and that each time I see them, I make a point of thanking them for making the trek to WA, I felt it appropriate I do the same. BC always extends a hand and says cheers and I think I gave Rich a manly hug. No drama then! Only thing is, some artists get afforded a status that the time and place to talk or outstretch a hand is when the bouncer allows it.
So perhaps I f-ucked up.
I don't know. It has certainly made me wary of venturing forth again, seeing especially it was my first gig since FEL's in August last year. So perhaps proceed with caution FELFANS at any support gigs or so, because there is always someone , somewhere whose agenda is so far removed from the band you're there to see and your relationship with them.
Look after yourselves.|I

Re: A FEL Gig & Someone Else's gig
mmmmmm.....i too had a similar experience. Only this was at a nightclub and not at a gig.

I entered the premises at approximately 9:38pm Saturday night late in 1998. I shuffled casually to the barkeep whereat i partook in two middies of full strength beer.
"Nice night" i thought to my ass and proceeded to the boogie room to strut my proverbial stuff. About 5 minutes into my personally altered brand of rump shaking a behemoth bouncer grabbed my collar and uttered the words "your too pissed mate yer outta here!"."But kind sire" i retorted, "Ive had but two middies of full strength beer this eve".
Master 35 then spoke the words that scar me to this very day. "Stay at home if yer gonna dance like that. Yer dance like a f-uckin' idiot mate".he then jobbed me a quick 'un to the left temple and cast me unto the street.
There I sat in the gutter in pure wonder.Maybe it was time to change my jive style.
Yes my friends...there are many of these gum chewin' disgruntled apes out there....but what can we do?.....They are the spokesmen of pop culture....they make the rules......decide how ya dance.......how ya talk...........oh......what can we do?

a pain i know all too well
speaking as a punter who has been singled out and extracted from many situations where the set comprised of beer has overlapped with the set containing 'booty shaking' i know of what you guys speak.

the only suggestion i can give is to keep it up and redouble your efforts. far be it from me to compare the compulsion to dance in a way some might call
'd-ickhead-ed' with the civil rights of african americans, but Rosa Parks didn't move to the back of the bus and soon people joined her. spreading good vibes and good will is the only way to overcome these fascist pigs content to ruin not only enjoyable nights out but the reputation of all security guards/crowdies.

i once had dinner with a bloke who wanted to get a full time proper crowdie license, but he had a problem with his criminal record: violence charges in particular. i feel that he summed up the brain pattern of these blokes when he said straight faced 'i should be able to get it though, coz all my violence charges are work related.' he's clearly in the right field.
