A Hunting We Will Go
The cold and unforgiving vacuum of space. A treacherous place that can support no life, full of many hazards of varying sizes. One such hazard was more of a place than any one object, the asteroid field. It was a treacherous place to navigate, whether it be by ship or by mech, but was frequented by those who wished to move shipments or even troops relatively undetected. One such shipment was being moved at this very moment, a small civilian frieghter carefully navigating the space debris, it's pilot no rookie as he was doing an excellent job in avoiding a fatal collision. But the ship wouldn't be any problem at all. The only potential threat was the ships escort, though it was a pretty weak escort. Only five Zaku protected that ship and it's precious cargo. A pity they wouldn't be leaving the asteroid field, at least not in anything they arrived in.
A short distance away, hiding amongst some of the more tightly packed asteroids, a single mech could be seen. If one had a keen eye, it wouldn't be hard to tell that the lone mech was an Orbital Frame, something few wanted as an enemy. It's pilot was one Eric Alvain, better known to the general public as the mercenary Shade. Few knew this pilot by any other name than Shade, and those few people were part of a very close knit group of friends. What was known was this, he was one hell of a pilot and he rarely botched a job. His current job involved recovering the cargo of that ship for his client. An easy assignment that even a lesser merc could do, but the pay was good so he didn't mind.
Then in a few seconds, the Sekmet dashed out from behind the cover of the asteroids it was hiding behind and quickly locked onto the five Zaku as it unleashed it's Homing Laser. A burst of laser fire streaked across the asteroid field and obliterated all of the Zaku as the Sekmet quickly covered ground in it's fast paced approach towards the ship. Though the pilot of the freighter was beginning to panic, and thus his movements were getting a bit eratic. Shade would have to be quick if he was going to gut that freighter and get the cargo before it could get smashed into oblivion due to an asteroid collision. Thankfully he was, as he was soon upon it. to prevent any stupid moves on the pilot's part, Shade used a bit of Geyser on the ship to cripple it. All he had to do now was get the cargo and make his getaway.

But it wasn't as simple as that for the Sekmet. If it had proximity sensors, they would be going wild. Something had just managed to detect its signature and lock on with something in a mere second.
A voice cracked over his comm, as someone tried to contact him, the signal getting stronger as the other pilot boosted the signal.
"Well, look what we have here...a naughty kid with his hand in the cookie jar."
The young female voice chuckled and sighed, becoming a little more formal, a strong british accent speaking.
"The infamous Sekmet. Looks like a I've finally found you. I figured if there was going to be some sort of attack it would be near this asteroid field. Electrical intereference to hide yourself and the furthest point from any type of military."
The voice was still pretty much hidden, even though she was locked on. Where could she be hiding?
"Well it looks like you've got two choices. Either you let me take some pot shots at you, or we can imagine that this never happened and you can get the next frieghter that passes through here that isn't paying me to protect it."

Sensors were indeed going a bit wild, clearly informing Shade that someone out there had a lock on him. Though he wasn't concerned in the slightest. In fact, could someone see his face at the moment they would find that he was smiling.
"And here I thought this job would be boring. It's nice to see otherwise, though you shouldn't jump the gun. I havn't opened the jar yet."
Though he was somewhat disappointed in the one contacting him, as she was giving him far too much time to figure out her position. With his metatron computer working in unison with Sekmet's, it wouldn't be long before Ayrin's chit chat gave her position away.
"So you already know who I am. I guess that means we can get introductions out of the way. Too bad I've been hired to extract the cargo this ship is carrying. Though are you sure you want to risk any pot shots? Wouldn't want to have this freighter have an accident, would you?"
At about this time his computers finished their analysis and fed the data to him. Turning the Sekmet to face her general direction, he couldn't help but to chuckle slightly. "Dear me, I almost forgot to tell you. I seeeeee yooooou."

The voice chuckeld.
"Trust me, the shot I have lined up right now? Priceless. I could just disable you right now you know. That would be less of a burden on my concsience."
There was a sigh, as Shade declared he'd found her.
"Well, I wasn't planning on hiding for long. I can't tell if you're bluffing or not, but oh well."
On Shade's sensors there was a slight movement to where the signal was coming from now. If he ever had a better chance to shoot, now would be it.

"Awww, don't you know? Mercenaries aren't supposed to have a concsience. Gets in the way of the job. If I was in your position, I'd have fired by now."
There was a slight flash of bright light coming from Sekmet just before Shade locked onto that signal. Though what the flashmeant could not be good for her, a sub-weapon. More specifically, the homing missile sub-weapon. In roughly a second at least a dozen had mysteriously materialized behind the Sekmet, thanks to the Vector Trap technology. Though they didn't stay behind the Sekmet for very long. No sooner than they had appeared did they launch, scattering outwards and away from the Sekmet and rapidly closing in on the source of the signal.

There was a gasp, just before an explosion. The missile had hit something other than an asteroid and the explosion was enough to make it seem like an MS.
The voice over Shade's comm crackled with static now, the person obviously dead now.
Then why was there still a lock-on signal? The location that Shade had before was the source of the voice, right? So where was the lock-on signal coming from?
And, in the debris that Shade would find, was what looked like a half-destroyed transmitter, with a few cans of disarmed explosive strapped to its remains. And it was still beeping, the pulse getting stronger as soon as the Sekmet got closer. It looked like it was going to explode at any second.

Shade saw the transmitter in due time, taking note of what was attatched to it and the fact that there was now beeping pulse that was steadily growing stronger. With a simple gesture, Shade took aim with Sekmet's cannon and blasted the transmitter. He then opened a channel that was indiscriminate, meaning anyone in the immediate area that had a comms system could hear what he said. Though not after a surprisingly calm chuckle permeated the airwaves.
"Looks like we have someone that's actually clever. I don't know who you are, but you're a cut above the cannon fodder I usually encounter. Though you hiding from me is so very disrespectful."
Shade then had the Sekmet take aim at the ship he'd disabled, cannon charging. It seemed if Ayrin didn't reveal herself he'd destroy the ship she was supposed to protect. Sure this would probably make him fail, but Shade needed only the cargo. He cared little about the ship itself.

The voice crackled back over the comm, chuckling. This time it was a burst transmission, making sure that the radio signal would e hard to track.
"Had you fooled though, didn't I?"
There was a sigh and the beeping of the lock seemed to increase, whatever weapon trained upon the Sekmet right now had all safeties off. There was no energy pulse or signs of anything charging up, so obviously Shade would feel safe.
"Tell you what; you fire at him, and I'll fire at you. And here's a word in your ear: He hasn't paid me yet, so whatever happens to him , I don't really care. All I know is that taking a shot a defenseless pilot in a poor little cargo ship, working for some big company and probably having a wife and a kid on some colony? That's something I can't forgive."

"If you wanna believe he's some blue collar company man with a nice little family, go right ahead. But I doubt it if he accepted a job of transporting something he obviously knew someone wanted. The cargo can't be legal either or he'd have gone a more legitimate, safer route. He brought this on himself, and he should be willing to accept the consequences."
The Sekmet's cannon began to noticeably charge up and for all intents and purposes, Shade was really going to fire on the ship. But just when it seemed the oportune time to do so,he quickly changed his aim and blasted a nearby asteroid. The resulting blast was very bright, Shade no longer where he was after the flash faded away, and the now shattered asteroid had luckily contained some precious ores. The flash would be bright enough to prevent visual tracking and the newly exposde ores might confuse her sensors a bit. It would seem she wasn't the only one that could play the hiding game, as he obviously had no problems doing so. And hey, if it degraded to a waiting game Shade could stay out here for a few days if needed.

But the lock-on tone didn't go away. It blipped, but wherever he went, the tone stayed clear. Whatever was tracking him was a very good system. It didn't rely on any high-tech goodies, otherwise it would get confused by all the particles and fragments. But even the higest priced tracking systems would fail to work as fast as the system that was tracking him now. The only other explanation was a pilot who excelled in sniping.
The pilot was actually grinning right now, her eyes fixed on the Sekmet's heat signal, her finger pressing lightly on the trigger. this would give off a slight energy blip. This wouldn't give her position away, thanks to all of the particles and ores that were floating about, but it would probably make Shade's systems go wild.

Re: A Hunting We Will Go
Shade was only mildly surprised that Ayrin still had a lock on him, though he still wasn't concerned by the events taking place. He just decided to focus a bit on his machines sensors so he could track her down. It would be rather simple though, as he doubted anyone other than himself knew that he essentially was the Sekmet once he climbed into it's cockpit. He merely had to direct it with his thoughts.
Let's see . . . stop all detection of metals and alloys. Focus on heat detection, energy given off by reactors or weaponry, and any FCS signals. She wants to lock onto me, then she can go right ahead and do so.
What this essentially meant was that Sekmet's sensors would ignore things like the ores he released by blasting that asteroid. It also meant Sekmet would focus on two very specific things, energy detection and FCS detection. Energy detection was self explanitory but FCS detection is a thing of beauty. It tracks the fire control system of ships or mecha, meaning that by being locked on by an enemy, Shade could in turn find the exact location of the one locked on to him. Good for increasing the chances of evading an attack. Also good for people that like to hide. Keeping the energy part active was just in case she broke the lock on and tried to moveto a new location.
"I tried to make things easy for you, but if you insist on getting in my way I'll have to be rough with you. Right about now you should be hearing a sound that's been bugging me for quite awhile. See, I now have a lock on you as well."

There was a pause and then another chuckle.
"Oh really? I can see that you have no heat emissions from any of your weapon spots. The only thing I can see is your generator, the engines and your own body."
She sighed.
"Besides. You're facing the wrong way."

Surprisingly, a chuckle would be her response. Followed by a playful bit of wordplay. "Looks like you're too smart for me. I better pack on up and head home. Whatever was I thinking when I thought I'd challenge you."
The Sekmet slowly started moving away from it's hiding spot and was in clear view. It seemed like he was actually going to leave, that is until a strange weapon seemed to materialize out of nowhere as the Sekmet whirled around to face where Ayrin was. As it stood, right now he couldn't see her. This being an asteroid field, that wasn't a surprise. There are lots of things to hide behind. So the solution to this problem once he knew where to look, the Halberd sub-weapon.
"Surprise!"
He immediately opened fire with the Halberd and the effect would be immediate. A large rod of energy was fired, only it wasn't like a normal energy weapon. It was a continuous fire weapons that when moved, caused it's beam to move. The range of this beam also extended with each second of use. So a good way of describing it would be a constantly extending beam saber on steroids. Asteroids were being obliterated as he swept the general direction she was supposed to be in. She'd have to show herself sooner or later, and just to be sure he saw her when she did he was moving in closer as he fired. It was that or see if her mech could withstand the power of the Halberd.

Re: A Hunting We Will Go
Ayrin siged and grit her teeth as the destroyed asteroids buffeted her Angelus. She was far away and the beam had come close several times. Admittedly she was tired of just sitting around. Also, if he hadn't noticed, the cargo ship's distress beacon had been screaming ever since the first MS had been destroyed. The nearest garrison had been alerated and knowing their response time, they'd be here in under 5 minuites. Admittedl the MS's they would be bringing would be pretty weak, but considering the person who was paying her to bring this cargo home, the sheer number of MS's would probably be enough.
Also, the number of particles being thrown up in Shade's line of sight was no enought to create a blanket of sorts, and Ayrin now had the ability to move freely.
<Oh well.>
She powered up the generator and fired the boosters. A large, grey, almost metallic looking asteroid began to move and broke through the cloud of material, directly into Shade's line of sight.
But as the asteroid began to split apart, a white flash could be seen underneath. But Shade's main concern was probably the prescece of a huge, twin-barreled rifle that was pointed right at him, the barrels glowing ominously. The amount of enery being given off was huge, and Ayrin had to simply click the trigger to fire off all of it. Behind it came the golden and white head of an MS, as the grey wings seemed to shatter, showing the pure white ones underneath the paint and layer of rocks that had been used as a disguise.
The limbs of the MS were slim and almost feminine, the body almost completely white, the twin ble sluts for the eyes staring up at the Sekmet. The wings were thrown back and seemed to flutter, the verniers stabilising it as the arms held the twin rifles aloft, pointed right at her target.
"You were saying?"

Re: A Hunting We Will Go
The rest of Sekmet's sensors flared up as Ayrin's mech finally began moving from her hiding spot. Now all he had to do was bear down on her with the Halberd, that was until it's energy reserves ran dry. The distance he'd covered as well as the wide sweeping arcs he'd performed had formed a significant drain. He'd have to recharge it later, but first he'd deal with Ayrin. So he deactivated the Halberd, causing it to return to the subspace that was the vector trap, and decided to talk to her since she'd asked a question. Of course as per usual, he didn't seem the least bit phased and maintained his eerie sense of calm.
"I was saying surprise. Please don't tell me you've gone deaf in such a short period of time."
It was odd that he could remain so calm even after seeing the cannon that was being pointed at him. But calm was his specialty.
"My what a big toy you have there. If you were a man I'd say you were overcompensating, but you're not. Maybe you have a bit of penis envy?"
Immediately boosting to the side, the Sekmet moved with an intense speed as it fired several shot from it's cannon. However, all of these shots were aimed at none vital areas of the Angelus. In other words, he was going out of his way to avoid killing her. Though he started moving back towards the ship after these shots were fired, due to him underestimating the MS. See, except for other Orbital Frames he's never seen anyone dodge any of his weapons fire.He honestly expected Ayrin's machine to be crippled as he tried to go finish his job.

Re: A Hunting We Will Go
As the shots were fired, Ayrin yanked on about five controls at once. The throttle was engaed, the yaw was bitched back, the arms were unlocked, and the wings were spread out.
This resulted in the angelic MS shooting backwards from a standstill, its wings appearing almost to be organic rather than mechanical, the way in which they oved through the zero-gravity. They flapped, and at the same time the verniers fired, giving it immense amounts of thrust whichever direction it wanted to move.
So, it was only natural that the Angelus dodged the shots and then zipped up behind the Sekmet, a clang reverberating as the rifle was once again, brought to bear, the muzzle touching the back of the OF's head, glowing as it kept it's charge.
"You're quick. Though I think I'm quicke-YOW!"
A beam shot zinged past the Angelus' face and refexes took over, as the radars on both the MS and OF blipped. The army was here, and it wasn't just a patrol; it was the whole bloody garrison.
Ayrin gawped and opened a channel.
"What the hell?! I had the attacker right here!"
There was no response, in terms of words, but both mechs came under a hail of beam and solid shot fire as the Zakus charged.
"Well crap it then! Corrupt generals and businessman wants to play rough?!"
Ayrin yanked on the stick and brought the rifle to bear. The tip glowed brighter than ever, and she made sure that the OF wasn't in the way, actually getting right into his line of fire.
"You may want to cover your eyes."
There was a flash and a giant beam of light shot through space, right through the centre of the garrison of MS's, enguling about a third of them. There was a rumble of explosions as some Zakus merely close to the beam also exploded. Some enrgy flared up around the Angelus, the verniers firing off to prevent the delicate looking MS from tumbling off into space.
When the light was gone, about half of the garrison remained.
"Phew."

Re: A Hunting We Will Go
Shade was a bit impressed by the movements of Ayrin's machine, as they were quite graceful for a mobile suit. Looked like she'd be a worthy challenge that would make this mission enjoyable. Of course he only witnessed hermovements because one of the holographic screens had showed him what she was doing. Thus he was surprised when she not only evaded the cannon fire but came up behind him and pressed the barrel of her weapon against the back of Sekmet's head. Though when the beam fire came and interrupted her he was surprisingly calm about it.
"I merely underestimated the capabilities of your mobile suit. First time I've seen one move with a speed comparable to an orbital frame. Though I think we have a bigger problem on our hands at the moment. Don't you just love over zealous soldiers?"
He merely had the Sekmet move a slight distance away from Ayrin and brought up his metatron shield. Think a semi-transparent beam shield that surrounded the entire orbital frame in the form of a sphere, and you would be pretty close to what a metatron shield is. While it wouldn't stand up to the force of say, the twin buster cannon, it was more than enough to render any shots from those army regulars utterly harmless. It was also apparent that had he activated his shield while Ayrin had been gloating, she'd have had to find a replacement for her big toy since it likely would have been severed into two big ol pieces of junk. Though that really didn't matter since it seemed they had to join forces for now. The enemy of your enemy is your friend and all that. Though the shot she fired on the cannon fodder units speeded things up greatly.
"Not too shabby. Not too shabby at all, stranger. I guess this means it's my turn to show off."
The Sekmet's arm could be seen pointed right at the survivors, but it wasn't pointed at any one unit. In fact, if a shot was fired straight ahead it would likely miss the units entirely. But only Shade could see what was going on, as the displays showed a lock on come up for each and every survivor. A few seconds later and a huge salvo of lasers was unleashed, it was the Homing Laser and it seemed more than capable of firing on a large number of enemies. Soon the remaining enemy units were chased down and destroyed by this brutally efficient attack. But something was wrong. Shade opened up a direct comms link with Ayrin.
"Why do my sensors still detect weapon discharges?"

Ayrin frowned at the little readout that said that Shade was indeed correct. The source was just behind them...
She pointed an optical sensor around and down at the source, jus in time to see one of the surviving MS open fire upon the only target that wasn't on his side or able to fire back. The poor little transport unit.
"NO! My paycheck!!"
Unfortunately, despite any speed she had, the second she'd turned to lok, a beam had just sliced through the main generator, and a few second later, it exploded, its secretive cargo being lost forever to both Ayrin and Shade.
Needless to say, Ayrin was pissed. She quickly targeted the lone MS and before he could say 'lock on?', she'd squeezed off a shot and blown a neat hole in it where the cockpit should have been.
Ayrin sighed and conked her head on the centre console before flopping back in her seat.
<Great. Another downpayment I've missed now.>

Re: A Hunting We Will Go
Instead of Ayrin's anguished cry and charge of fury, Shade merely had the Sekmet turn around to face the transport while maintaining a state of calm. If there was already someone over by the transport, it was highly unlikely they were going to save it. The Zaku may not be the best mecha around, but it's still a military unit against a civilian transport.
"Hrm, oh well. You can't win em all. Guess I'll have to find something else to do today."
The way Shade was reacting to things would probably be unnerving to Ayrin. At least in the sense of comparison, as she seemed to be quite upset over the destruction of the transport. With a few simple thoughts to recalibrate Sekmet's systems, as well as allowing his metatron computer to analyze the combat data should he ever have to fight Ayrin again, Shade was ready to head on home. Though he opened a quick comms link to Ayrin before making any actual moves to leave the area.
"Wanna get a drink? Fun as battle may be, I really don't feel like taking on those guy's friends when they come to see what happened. No sense fighting when you aren't getting paid. Besides, alcohol works wonders in helping you get over your problems."

Re: A Hunting We Will Go
Ari's comm and the Angelus remained motionless and silent for a while, before there was an audible sigh and eventually a mumbled response.
"Yeah, I could use a couple..."
The angelic-looking MS powered up and boosted away from the field, heading towards the nearest colony at top speed. Her comm stayed dead the rest of the way though, and there was little to no movement from the Angelus either.
