A Meeting In The Front Hall: We're off to see God
Sitting at the bottom of the stairs for almost an hour already, Heath had gotten himself in a comfortable position by laying down on them, it looked more uncomfortable then it was, but he had gotten used to sleeping on rocks and uneven ground, so it wasn’t too bad in comparison. The former knight had began reciting poems in his old dialect, the twisted English causing a few passing students to passing him a curious glance but all assuming he was auditioning for the play that was rumored to be coming up, a Shakespearian play so the tongue was similar, if not identical.
It was nice to think that he’ll be heading outside, having spent most of his time in his room today he hadn’t yet heard any rumors of Riley fainting during the game the previous night, so he was in a better mood then he would have been otherwise. There in his tanned boots and jeans, with his white shirt which had the top two buttons left unbuttoned to show a peak of his chest but mainly the wooden bead which he wore, a thin black leather string wrapping it about his neck securely. Sure it looked simple, stylish perhaps but basic, it was hand made, and for Heath that made it one of his more cherished items, since he did it in his time back on his farm when he was with his family. The curly blonde hair and bright eyes were glimmering, once again the former knight managing to look like a common everyday teenager.
To be honest Heath wasn’t as desperate to go to the church as he had been when first bringing it up with Hannah, he was excited yeah, but not desperate, because the young girl had managed to calm his fears enough for Heath not to be so concerned with his past actions. Even if part of him felt bad, another part clang to the logic to spoke… why would God make him great at something if not to prepare him for a task he was born to face? Maybe this was his task, maybe God had some need of him in this time, but what? What could he possibly do that these other people couldn’t? A talent with a sword and joust hardly stood up against flame throwing children, mind powers and any other number of abilities Heath has become familiar with over the years.

Re: A Meeting In The Front Hall: We're off to see God
English. Why did this lesson have to be English? Sure, reading, creative writing, fun. But not this. Not studying the language, the types of words, phrases and so one. She hated Language. Hated the mock exams they would which would involve different ways to write things like a recipe, you could ‘direct’ them, and so and so forth. She hated it. If this lesson had been maths, she would have been much happier, more so than normal. English always seemed to drag on forever, but Maths whizzed by. Her eyes lifted to the class room clock. Ten minutes? She was sure the clock had said five minutes of class left just a few moment’s earlier. She sighed softly, writing lazily as the teacher spoke. The more she thought of it, the more she had organised it, the more enthused she was to take Heath to this church.
It was one of those rare times that things just seemed to go right, well, apart from the English class that was. She had phoned round yesterday afternoon after lessons, first a few churches, the first couple not taking confessional unless you booked an appointment in advance, which seemed odd even to Hannah, the third a more traditional church which held confessional throughout the day. Then it just took another phone call to confirm her suspicions. Aunt Phillipa was free, and that made life a heck of a lot easier. Sure, she had been thinking about visiting one of her friends, but the rather easy-going woman was more than happy to wait till a little later, happy to hear not only from Hannah, but also that she seemed to be making friends, and she was going to be taking one to a church. Which, as far the Aunt was concerned was good as it meant she had either found another Christian to talk to, and therefore had familiar ground with, or that there was someone with an interest in Christianity. Either way, being, for want of a better term, an ‘interest’ of Hannah’s, it meant that she had found familiar ground with someone.
The young truth teller had started chewing the top of her pen out of boredom as she once more turned her eyes to the clock. A rise in the voice of the teacher brought her gaze back down to her notes, still writing. In truth it was mere seconds, but it felt like minutes and the flow of the teacher’s words were broken as the bell rang out through them. Like a button which opened a cage door, it seemed to release the students, creating the typical bustle in the hallways. And for the first time Hannah was one of the first out the door.
Weaving her way through the crowds, her first port of call was her room. Firstly, she didn’t want to trek her school books around, and she wanted her jacket as well. Even with the general business of the halls, there was always an unspoken rule, an order to the movement, allowing a surprising amount of efficiency in getting around. After all, especially in a school such as this, there was always a greater fear of inducing the wrath of the teachers. As it was, Hannah soon got to her room, unceremoniously dumping the English books on her bad before taking the white jacket off the chair and pulling it on as she left her room once more.
By the time she reached the front hall, the corridors were starting to clear of the majority of students as they started their next lesson. It was about ten minutes after the bell by now, hoping that Heath hadn’t been waiting around too long. As it was, she stood there puzzled for a short moment, unable to see the older blonde boy, till the movement of another students brought her attention to the stairs.
The truth teller couldn’t help but smile as she saw him lying on the step. It didn’t seem to be the most comfortable of positions, but clearly the knight didn’t mind, else no doubt he would have moved, either sitting or standing up rather than choosing to lay down in such a manner. She walked towards him, her voice light hearted and cheerful, smile a classic.
”Heath..” She stopped as she drew closer. Her white jacket was only half done up, so the ever present cross necklace was visible. Hannah was never one to dress to impress, but she had the natural skill of being able to throw together some clothes to produce a relatively simple but nice outfit, as she had today. Her tone remained light as she continued. ”I’ve found a church for you… and my aunt has agreed to give us a lift there as well” Her smile changed to a grin as she spoke, though her hand twisted slightly, eyes lowering briefly to her watch.
It was a light weight silver watch, a prized Christmas present from Wes from the one just gone. It was a half bracelet, half link watch, the face oval rather than circular. The only hint of a dial was a single, clear gem which marked 12 O’clock. This, combined with the fact that the thin silver hands seemed to merge with the silver tweety-pie motif in the centre made it more difficult to accurately tell the time. But over the last few months, she had gradually been getting the hang of it.
”She should be here in a few minutes..” Aunt Phillipa, despite her apparently ‘scatty’ nature, was surprisingly prompt when she wanted to be. An almost mischievous looks passed over the youngster’s face as she grinned, her voice a soft joke almost. “So.. are you excited yet?” Considering the boy’s enthusiasm the lunch time before, she guessed he would be, but there was a little part of her which wanted to gently tease him, in a friendly way of course.

Re: A Meeting In The Front Hall: We're off to see God
”Heath..” The ceiling lost all attention it was getting, Heath spending a minute or so wondering how they get up there to clean it and then what they used to build the place. The curly blonde perched himself carefully onto his elbows before pushing himself up to a sitting position and then getting to his feet, feeling uncomfortable relaxing without any sort of proper greeting. If she were male, or a friend, it would be different, he could just say hi without making any extra effort, but with woman and elders and anyone who was of higher rank in Heath’s mind it was a matter he couldn’t very well ignore. ”I’ve found a church for you… and my aunt has agreed to give us a lift there as well” A pleased grin brightened his expression, Heath’s hand raising to brush over his chest as if to quell his excited heart.
”She should be here in a few minutes..” Minutes? How thrilling, he looked over towards the doorway and wondered if they should wait outside or if she’d come in here to meet them. “So.. are you excited yet?” Excited? He had been up half the night, and spent a while telling Lauren all about his trip to the church. More then anything he was both wound up and anxious about getting out of the school, it was a beautiful place and he had more then enough room to not feel confined but he still wanted to go out and explore the new world. He used to spend his entire teenage life going from one place to another and he now he didn’t have that freedom it was like he was grounded and his wings were clipped. This world may frighten him and perhaps the knight didn’t understand much of anything, but he still wanted to go out and see things, learn what else has changed and perhaps he could then grow accustom to this time. After all, Heath had his entire life ahead of him, he wasn’t even yet twenty, he couldn’t very well just sit in this school the rest of his life.
"I am nervous," Though he looked thrilled nevertheless, a discreet stretch of his legs could just be noticed as weight seemed to shift from one foot to his other, indicating he was probably sitting around for a little while. "This will be the first time I have really left the school, the first time can not really count… all I did was sit at a table for a few hours." And then there was all the commotion that had them running back to the school, and some girl Heath wasn’t familiar with got harmed, though Heath wasn’t sure what a gun was or how it worked so he didn’t understand what they were saying when talk of gunshots were raised.
"I am very grateful for your help." Quietly Heath glanced at the door, realizing if he wasn’t careful he could be thanking her every ten minutes. Groveling was a custom where he was from and even with the short time as a Knight he still found himself falling back into the bad habits. "How do I address your aunt?" Because somehow calling her Mrs Aunt wasn’t exactly the right thing to do, and if he didn’t have a name to go by it would have to be ‘Greetings Hannah’s aunt’ which probably wasn’t any much better.
Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear - not absence of fear.
Re: A Meeting In The Front Hall: We're off to see God "I am nervous," She grinned slightly as he spoke. She wasn’t surprised he was nervous, considering what he had said the day before, though he was about to add to her understanding as he continued. "This will be the first time I have really left the school, the first time can not really count… all I did was sit at a table for a few hours." No wonder he was nervous! He must have arrived here at some point obviously, but clearly he must have meant that he had spent all his days in this time here. Entering the outside world must be scary! It was bad enough for someone who was simply moving house… he moved times.
"I am very grateful for your help." The young truth teller couldn’t help but grin as he spoke. She had lost count of the number of times he had thanked her, or more accurately, had given up keeping count. There wasn’t much point really, and it wasn’t fair on the older boy. Saying that, because of his odd quirks, she was more and more sure that her aunt would be happy with him. She was the sort of woman who always seemed half mad anyway. As long as it wasn’t a human hating mutant, she was okay with it.
"How do I address your aunt?" Her eyebrows rose slightly. That was a good question, a very good question, and even Hannah’s power was stumped for a reply. Not that it was a difficult question as such. But then, it was like asking someone what to call their mother or father. Sometimes ‘so and so’s mum’ was better than their first name, some times Mr Smith better than so and so’s Dad and so forth. Asking him to call her Phillipa – or worse, Pip, sounded strange. But then, so did Ms Matts. Which really didn’t help matters.
”I suppose you should call her Ms Matts, at least to start with…” She paused for a moment, tilting her head to one side, before motioning slightly to suggest they head out to wait for her, walking slowly towards the door. ”…though she’ll probably suggest you call her Phillipa or Pip.” She even sounded a tiny bit confused as she spoke. Trying to decide what someone should call your relatives wasn’t the easiest of decisions.
As she opened the door, probably against Heath’s own habits, holding it open for him as she walked out, still talking thoughtfully. ”Apparently it’s meant to be a nice church as well, beautifully structured with some lovely paintings and stained glass windows.” One hand rose once more, running the wavy dark hair behind one ear, though it had the annoying habit of flicking out again within seconds. Hannah was constantly telling herself she should buy an alice band or some sort of hair restraining device… but then, she could never find one she liked… even when she DID remember to actually look for one.
Ahead of them, the gates to the institute opened slowly as a navy, Volvo estate pulled up to them. Hannah grinned slightly now, turning to Heath again. ”That will be her. Oh.. she might seem a little odd at times, but she’s lovely really. A bit nervous of being here though” The grin turned to an un-comfy smile as she spoke, eyes turning back to the car. The woman at the wheel did bare some resemblance to Hannah, but not much. The woman’s dark hair was straight rather than wavy, and she was of a slightly larger build. Also, her make was possibly a little two overdone, the deep red lip stick a sharp contrast to her lightly tanned skin, and her nails painted a rather questionable shade of purple.
Since getting Hannah’s call the day before, Pip had been wondering about it all. So her niece and her friend wanted a lift to a church in New York. That was ok, and she could do that. It had gotten rather lonesome in her large house since her young mutant niece had left. Even so, this ‘friend’ was a bit of a worry. Being a little scatter brained at times, she couldn’t remember if Hannah had mentioned if the boy, she remembered her saying him!, was a mutant or not. But Hannah new her aunt’s worry, so surely she would do anything silly… would she?
And the church, a Roman Catholic. So unlike Hannah’s normal church. Maybe though that was the domination that the boy was from. Or not. If that was the case why did he need help? The whole situation was rather confusing for the elderly woman. She was barely 50, but the silvery streak of hair in places made her look older than she was, and in all honesty, at times the woman felt it. But mainly because she spent her life alone, seeing her friends maybe twice a week was fine, but other than Hannah she had lived a lone since her divorce. But this would be an unusual treat for her. Meeting a new person. Whom she wasn’t sure whether if they blow her head off or not.

Re: A Meeting In The Front Hall: We're off to see God
"I suppose you should call her Ms Matts, at least to start with…" Ms Matts, that was easy to remember, as long as Heath didn’t panic and call her Lady Matts. A small breath was taken in as they moved towards the door, making the moment gradually seem just a little more real then when he had been lazing about on the steps before. "…though she’ll probably suggest you call her Phillipa or Pip." The idea of calling her something so informal was a little nerve racking for the former Knight, who cast an anxious glance at Hannah with equal awkwardness as she was the one to open the door and moved curtly through. It felt weird when girls did that.
”Apparently it’s meant to be a nice church as well, beautifully structured with some lovely paintings and stained glass windows.” A small nod was half offered as Heath stared off towards the distance, checking over his clothes briefly to make sure it hadn’t become dirty or wasn’t out of place somehow. Nervous fingers fiddled with the wooden bead about his neck, his eyes soon catching the arrival of one of those cars he never quite found himself fond of. Not the style in particular, just the car in general, it smelled funny and he got sick when it went too fast and he didn’t like the noise it made when they pushed that horn thing…
”That will be her. Oh.. she might seem a little odd at times, but she’s lovely really. A bit nervous of being here though” Typical. His anxiety picked up even more, wondering if this woman had any strange abilities, though so far Hannah hadn’t done anything that Heath recognized as a special gift. Heath nodded a little again, more along to his own thoughts as he pondered how he understood how this woman felt about being uncomfortable being somewhere, here especially. A school of black magic would be along the lines of how his folks explain this strangely inhabited school.
"I pray I survive this day." Softly spoken words aimed at no one in particular, not exactly the most motivating of comments for him but he hardly fooled himself into thinking this would be an easy trip. Heath trailed after Hannah, her every actions watched carefully with a studying gaze, "Have you eaten?" The question wasn’t because Heath was hungry, though he was always willing to sit down and have a bite to eat, he liked to know if they needed to stop at some point before the church to get something to eat if she was really hungry or after if she was just starting to possibly get hungry or if she preferred to skip food all together. Also he was probably just delaying the inevitability of getting into the car while he talked, sticking to Hannah’s heels nervously noting how close the car was getting to them and how soon they’ll be inside the belly of that beast.

Re: A Meeting In The Front Hall: We're off to see God
The dark haired mutant watched the car drive up fairly slowly. Hannah didn’t blame her for taking her time through the school grounds. Not only was her aunt nervous, but if a kid suddenly ran out or appeared in front of her, the slower she went, the safer. Which is why she was surprised when Heath spoke. "I pray I survive this day." Raised eyebrows turned to the older boy, realising his words had been spoken indirectly. But did he think so poorly of her aunt’s driving? It took her a moment to remember his constant referrals to ‘horseless carriages’. Cars. He just wasn’t used to them. No wonder he was worried.
"Have you eaten?" Now there was a mildly interesting question to try and answer. Had she eaten. Technically, yes. In the past she had eaten. And she had had breakfast. But she could guess that’s not what the knight had meant. He had probably meant for lunch. This lead to her wondering if he had. Perhaps she could convince her aunt to take them somewhere if he hadn’t. She couldn’t help but wonder what he’d think of a McDonalds. Although there where of course other options, she was actually in the rare mood for one of their burgers, even if she wasn’t a fan of their fries.
”Not since breakfast..” she admitted, which did answer both possible questions, satisfying her power and her own want not to look like a complete idiot. She glanced over at the car which had pulled up not far from them, the woman in the front seat waving over at them. It was strange to think that, although Aunt Pip had realised that Hannah was a mutant, the older lady had no idea what her power was. She hadn’t asked, she hadn’t seemed to want to know at all. Yet lacking that knowledge, she still accepted her niece, even if she was scared witless by anyone else. The thought kept a calm smile on her face before turning back to Heath, unable to prevent the questions that formed on her tongue.
”What about you? Did you want to stop at somewhere like McDonalds on there way there or way back?” She asked calmly. Thinking about it, the truth teller was a little hungry now. It was regular in her routine to skip lunch, or maybe breakfast, depending what the day held for her. And she didn’t completely regret asking him the questions. After all, they were pretty harmless.
”Hannah!” The voice distracted her from her thoughts, dragging her eyes to the car again, watching as lady got out the car and wandered over. Despite her possibly over-applied make up, her general attire was quite calm. Black trousers, a rather bright shirt which in turn was toned down by a black cardigan. The only jewellery was a fake-pearl necklace, again a little over done in the scheme of things. Having calmed her own fears, there was a brightness in her face and more importantly her brown eyes which seemed in many ways to just be an older version of Hannah.
”Are the pair of you just going to stand here all day chatting like it was a tea party?” The smile remained, the voice light and joking. The response from Hannah was possibly a little amusing, as her softly tanned cheeks flushed with colour as she realised she had left her aunt just sitting there while they chatted.
”Of course not Aunt Phillipa.. Sorry” The elder woman shook her head with a chuckle, an indication that she honestly didn’t mind, whilst the truth teller continued, turning to Heath. ”Aunt Pip, this is Heath, the boy I told you about. Heath.. this is my Aunt” Introductions over, Hannah actually relaxed a bit. It was good to see her aunt smiling about the whole situation.
Pip looked over the young man briefly, before offering him a smile. Well, he seemed normal at least, and she was sure her niece had more sense than to bring a dangerous mutant along. ”A pleasure to meet you young man. So, how about we start this Church hunt?” She joked gently, unaware of the annoyance the question would cause her young niece.

Re: A Meeting In The Front Hall: We're off to see God
”Not since breakfast..” The younger girl replied, Heath in mean time was caught up in staring gat the woman inside the vehicle, it was indeed a brave or made woman who would sit within that monstrous contraption. ”What about you? Did you want to stop at somewhere like McDonalds on there way there or way back?” Who were the McDonalds? Probably a person or family who survived by making meals for people, that made sense really, and it was something Heath could relate to. It would be interesting to meet them, though the name did sound Scottish, the young blonde had a lot of issues with the last few Scots he had met.
”Hannah!” The name yelled out from the car window, causing the timid Knight to flinch slightly as he snapped his attention over towards the other woman who was dismounting… well, Heath realized that couldn’t really be the phrase used to explain her leaving the car.. could it? It was definitely a strange sight to see, Heath draw back slightly as he assessed her, the make up, the large stones around her neck, it was definitely something he would only see on people of importance or from those who demanded attention. The whore houses also were famed for over dressing but Heath didn’t want to even dare think of this woman possibly being a member of a brothel after Hannah had been so nice to him.
”Are the pair of you just going to stand here all day chatting like it was a tea party?” Confusion was masterfully hidden as Heath offered nothing more then a vaguely expressive blink, this was hardly what he could call a tea party, for one thing people usually do sit while feasting or drinking… and two there was no tea at all, let alone an actual party.
”Of course not Aunt Phillipa.. Sorry” It was nice to see them as a family, even if the brief moment Heath offered to think of family was really out of mild jealousy deep down at how easy it was for this relative to appear, and yet how impossible it would be for Heath’s family to be reunited. ”Aunt Pip, this is Heath, the boy I told you about. Heath.. this is my Aunt” Had they spoken of him before? Did that mean her Aunt had come sometime since Heath last talked with the younger student? ”A pleasure to meet you young man. So, how about we start this Church hunt?” Whatever the woman was in rank, she was polite and therefore Heath would be at his best behaviour regardless of his olden age characteristics and stereotypes he was still judging people by. Which considering the lack of tolerance for anyone or anything that is difference in Heath’s timeline it made the young man rather judgemental and often wrongly judging someone, which has forced him to start trying to avoid pinning labels onto people.
"It is a pleasure to meet you m-Ma’am," The slight stutter was from almost saying ‘My Lady’ and yet he managed to catch himself this time, only Ma’am seemed to slip out instead, which was what he tended to try and use around the female faculty. A slight bow was offered, but highly low key, especially compared to Heath’s usual ones, probably because he felt a little intimidated by the whole situation, all he managed was an awkward bow of his head really.

Re: A Meeting In The Front Hall: We're off to see God
Her words had been unthinking, and even now Hannah didn’t realise the confusion her suggestion for food could have caused. Instead, she was still beaming, as ever, quietly pleased. Firstly, she’d convinced her aunt to come to the school, though she hadn’t told her about the knight’s past, and secondly, she was going to be helping another student out. In a Christian way as well! It all seemed maybe too good. But it wasn’t. It was real. Which made it so much better!
"It is a pleasure to meet you m-Ma’am," Phillipa nodded slightly, respectfully, smiling slightly. But it only last a moment. She was, after all, gracious for the polite greeting. But at the same time, it was a little too much, and the older woman chuckled softly, shaking her head.
”Please, call me Pip or Phillipa.. or if you must, Ms Matts. No need for any of this Ma’am business.” She smiled happily, a glint in her eye not dissimilar from the one in Hannah’s when she laughed. They may not be directly related to each other, but the fact they were related was more than clear. It had, in the past, been suggested that Hannah was, in fact, a younger, slightly better looking, version of her aunt. Even if the older woman was the black sheep of the family, whereas Hannah, ignoring her mutantcy, was the golden child. But that always seems to be the way of things.
”Anyway…” The older woman turned to Hannah, motioning towards the car. ”Everyone in. You riding in the back.” The truth teller nodded, glancing at Heath briefly before looking back at her aunt. ”Course, Heath and I will sit in the back and leave you on your lonesome” She chuckled softly, jokingly. Pip simply rolled her eyes slightly, shaking her head in mock despair before going back to the car, glancing back at them with a raised eyebrow, as if suggesting that they might want to get back in the car, before returning to the driver’s seat herself.
The truth teller turned to Heath now, still smiling. “Come on, I’ll ask her about stopping somewhere for food on the way, or on the way back, which ever you prefer. I’m not bothered” With that she wandered down to the car, opening the front passenger door, unlocked the door for the back, then closed the front door, opened the back, leant across and unlocked the other one. Hannah had never been sure why her aunt didn’t invest in a central locking car. It wasn’t like the older woman couldn’t afford it. And it saved the hassle of unlocking each door individually, especially when her aunt forgot to be helpful enough to unlock the back doors. She was too used to travelling alone or just with Hannah in the front.
”Climb in” Hannah grinned at Heath, indicating to the back, passenger side door before walking round to get in the seat behind her aunt, as she did, she leant forward slightly, looping her arms round the seat so her hands rested on her aunt’s shoulders. ”Aunt Piiiiiiiiiip…” She said in teasing plea, ”Can we have some quiet music as well?” Gaining a positive response, she leant back in her seat, fastening the seatbelt. Not long now. Let the Church hunt commence!

Re: A Meeting In The Front Hall: We're off to see God
“Please, call me Pip or Phillipa.. or if you must, Ms Matts. No need for any of this Ma’am business.” The woman seemed cheerful enough but Heath still felt intimidated, giving a timid nod quickly to show he understood and would try to respect her wishes to the best of his capabilities.
“Anyway…” Then came the gesture towards the metallic contraption, leaving Heath feeling even more nervous and unsure. “Everyone in. You riding in the back.” Heath glanced at the machine awkwardly, his chocolate hued eyes shifting from the woman to the car and back. ”Course, Heath and I will sit in the back and leave you on your lonesome” Although in Heath’s time people were always more courteous (if they knew what was good for them anyway!), Heath’s family had been similar, the only child often mocking around with parents since the three of them were all the company they had up on the farm unless they wanted to take the long trip to the nearby town.
“Come on, I’ll ask her about stopping somewhere for food on the way, or on the way back, which ever you prefer. I’m not bothered” A hammering heart pounded fiercely in Heath’s chest, so much so that he was pretty sure if Hannah stopped and listened she could probably hear it’s echoes all around her. “Climb in” Everyone made it seem so effortless, so simple and easy, look at them, Heath watched as they climbed into the car, his eyes locked firmly on the open door awaiting him, like a gapping hole of a large beast waiting to devour him. Panic had definitely set in, he didn’t really need to go on this trip, he didn’t really need to leave the school, he has managed well enough all this time without really leaving it before save once or twice with a group of groups. Though if he could manage to go into the huge mall, bustling with noise and activity, then watch a movie (he was still pretty much in awe about that) then he should be able to sit down inside there with them…
Hesitantly, Heath inched his way into the car, a nervous tremor in his hands and paranoid look in his eyes as he examined every single inch of the car, fingers timidly reaching out to touch it almost as if expecting the metal to be hot to the touch. It wasn’t though, not that Heath thought it was, each movement seemed to need to be tested before he proceeded that little more, like testing the water before hopping in. Although he had heard Hannah’s voice, he was too worried to translate the oddly accented words (he may be the odd one out with his accent but Heath still considered their modern English rather strange).
Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear - not absence of fear.
Re: A Meeting In The Front Hall: We're off to see GodOOC: Sorry about the shortness.... but there wasn't much I could do lol.
Hannah wasn’t the only one to watch Heath’s hesitant entrance into the car. But she was the only one who cursed herself quietly. She should have realised that the car might cause a problem, even more so maybe the curious, and slightly concerned eyes which watched from the rear view mirror. The truth teller’s mind went on over speed, smiling softly at the knight, before glancing at her aunt with a simple grin that indicated there was nothing to worry about, before turning her attention back to the rather nervous young man.
”It’s okay Heath, it may be old but it’s not going to fall apart… or bite” Said more for her aunt’s benefit, who rolled her eyes in response and then muttered something about how the car wasn’t really *that* old. But the older woman took her eyes off the duo now, assuming that Heath’s response to the car was merely one of a private joke between the duo.
The truth inducer, meanwhile, smile gently at Heath, lowering her voice to almost a whisper, wishing she could make the comforting claim that it was perfectly safe, but knowing such a claim would always be impossible. ”It is okay, my aunt’s a safe driver, and as long as you close the door and do your seatbelt up..” She indicated to the strap holding her in place, then to the one still beside Heath, ”We’ll be fine. If you like we can even have a window open, and I’ll get Aunt Pip to stop halfway so you can have a break as well. It’s not a problem” She grinned slightly as she spoke, trying to keep her voice soft, comforting. She wasn’t going to let a little thing like a car stop this new mission of hers.
”Besides, we’re going to a house of God. I’m sure he wants us to get there in one piece, so nothing to worry about right?” Hannah had never been a paranoid passenger, and had never been in a car crash so genuinely had no worries about being in a car, therefore as far as she was concerned she was being perfectly honest, and even her softly hushed tone had a spark of enthusiasm to it.
The silent confidence was obvious in the girl, even if her general attitude was calming, comforting even. She sat back in the seat, trying not to crowd Heath, letting him take his time whilst praying that her Aunt wouldn’t be too worried. Maybe she should try and explain things to her aunt somehow later, otherwise the older woman might just ask some awkward questions, or worse, think badly of her new friend. So far so good though, as far as her aunt went at least it seemed. Now just to settle Heath, and perhaps, finally, they could be on their way...

Re: A Meeting In The Front Hall: We're off to see God
“It’s okay Heath, it may be old but it’s not going to fall apart… or bite” Bite? Could they bite? Could they fall apart!? He looked at the younger girl but she seemed calm and collected, so much so that Heath felt like a fool to be so worked up. “It is okay, my aunt’s a safe driver, and as long as you close the door and do your seatbelt up..” The door Heath could manage… what was a seat belt? He looked at the thing she gestured to and recognized it as something Lauren had tied around him once before, which caused an involuntary blush to taint his cheeks just at the recollection of the memory. The luck mutants close proximity always tended to cause Heath great anxiety, a strange mixture of severe nerves and delighted anxiety. That, however, was not a thought Heath felt comfortable thinking of just now, his mind pushing it aside and once again focusing on the voice nearby as Hannah spoke.
“We’ll be fine. If you like we can even have a window open, and I’ll get Aunt Pip to stop halfway so you can have a break as well. It’s not a problem” A curt smile crept onto Heath’s lips, his bright gaze shifting to the other woman and then back at Hannah, tension perhaps was not eased but his mind was somewhat comforted by the offer.
”Besides, we’re going to a house of God. I’m sure he wants us to get there in one piece, so nothing to worry about right?” That was true… if God really did have a higher meaning for Heath, which the former Knight had been inspired to believe after his talk with the younger girl the previous day. Though that didn’t mean he didn’t have his doubts, he still preferred to think on the more positive side of things.
The handsome youth offered a somewhat nervous, though pleasant smile, his hand reaching over to grab the door and swing it shut, flinching when the door mouth a loud thud. Curious hands then moved to take hold of the strap, pulling it awkwardly and trying to figure out where he was to place the other end. Intelligent eyes peered carefully over at Hannah’s belt and from that Heath tried to mimic what he was supposed to do, fumbling slightly but managing to click it into place with a proud smile.
"I am grateful for your assistance in our travels," Heath said politely to the elder woman, though his hand returned to gripping onto the door, an anxiety about the lad that seemed hard to ignore but he carried himself with enough dignity and pride to try and stand above his fear of the unknown. "It is very generous of you to spare some time for us." He finished curtly, a slight peak of enthusiasm reaching his voice with thoughts of their final destination, though he struggled to remain calm and relaxed while sitting in the metal monstrosity.
Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear - not absence of fear.
Re: A Meeting In The Front Hall: We're off to see God
Cheerful eyes watched Heath’s triumph with the seat belt, clearly proud of his achievement. And without help, which was even better, and there was a hint of pride for him in her eyes as she grinned, before turning her eyes to the front briefly as she heard, and felt, the old vehicle rumble into ‘life’. At least, the truth teller thought happily, the journey would be fairly easy, and if her Aunt did stop once in both directions, being able to stretch and take a breath if he needed. And food, food was a good idea.
"I am grateful for your assistance in our travels," The older woman glanced into the rear view mirror to look at the young man as she pulled away, the quiet, calm music soft beneath the knight’s words. The music it’s self was a little odd, a sort of modern songs played in a more classical way, it was a lot more interesting than it sounded, and also not too intrusive. "It is very generous of you to spare some time for us."
The older woman smiled in the rear view mirror at the boy, chuckling softly before turning her eyes back to the driveway as they started to drive out of the institute grounds. ”My pleasure. My niece there is one of my only relatives who actually talks to me… I miss having her around” She chuckled softly again, knowing Hannah’s reaction. The truth teller herself blushed slightly. It was true though, the disappointment her father had in his sister was more than obvious, and it wasn’t until she decided to attend the school that she managed to properly get to know her aunt. Perhaps because they had something in common, her father. Because Hannah was in no doubt about the pastor’s disapproval if he found out his eldest was a mutant.
”Still, thanks Aunt Pip.. ohh, is there any chance we could stop at a Maccy D’s or something on the way – I’ve not had lunch and I’m sure Heath wouldn’t mind a bite. And maybe we could swing by the house on the way back, I would like to pick up a few things I left there” She grinned slightly, giving the older woman the part truth about her reasons for stopping. Her requests were greeted by an exuberated sigh, the woman shaking her head slightly.
”Hannah dear, at times you can be useless. But sure, that’s fine.” Of course, the woman was more or less aware that stopping for lunch meant she was paying. Not that Hannah would assume it, but there was no way Hannah would have enough on her and if the boy hadn’t been warned in advance about the impromptu stops, then he had properly not brought any money with him. No worries, she figured quietly as she made her way down the roads to the carriageway which would take them down to the city, it would make a nice change to spend money on other people.
