A new student arrives (anyone can post)
The cab approached the Xavier Institute carrying a new student. This student was named Jordan Reynolds and he cut a rather strange figure to be attending what looked like a private boarding school. Clad in beat up boots, blue jeans, a button up work shirt and a old straw cowboy hat, he looked like a refugee from the late 1800's. This distinct ensamble tended to draw attention away from Jordan's face, which was rather plain, but looked older than his 17 years of age. His lean fram and medium brown hair was only remarkable for how plain they were. Besides his clothing, he looked like a perfectly normal guy. Until you got to his eyes. Though the same brown as his hair, they alternated between being the most expressive part of his face, or if he was concealing his emotions they turned into flat brown mirrors as dead as a winter graveyard. They were icy and flat now as Jordan tried to keep the cab driver from guessing what he was feeling in this new place.
Jordan was wondering what he was doing in New York of all places. He knew the reason behind going the Xavier Institute, especially after he accidentally slashed a hole in the barn wall by summoning his knife to him on accident when he was reaching for a limb to bash a rattler with. Yet this colder climate didn’t feel like home. “Ah heck, most of it is ‘cause ya miss your family,” Jordan thought to himself, “ The other part is probably just cause your being driven around in a cab instead of doing it yourself, and it makes you feel like a no good lazy louse if you ain’t doin’ it yourself.”
Jordan couldn’t complain about the grounds being ugly. It looked beautiful, but too manicured for Jordan’s taste. He preferred there to be a touch of wildness around him, some land that hadn’t been touched by the hand of man. Jordan brightened up when he saw a stable closer to the Institute.
“Well, well, well, If this place happens to have an actual western saddle it might not be to bad,” thought Jordan, “Probably only have those English saddles though, but I can always have one of mine from home shipped up here. Now the real problem is if they throw a fit over my weapon collection.”
As the cab pulled to a stop in front of the Institute, the driver turned and said, “Fare is $10.50 cowboy”
Jordan didn’t respond beyond pulling out a twenty from his wallet, and waited while his change was retrieved. Jordan unloaded all of his bags, and waited for the cab to pull away. As soon as it was out of sight, Jordan opened a large metal chest. It was about five feet long, three feet across, and two feet deep. It had a handle on one side to pull it with, and wheels on the other end to aid in transport. Jordan dialed in the combination for the lock and opened the lid.
Inside was a selection of weapons. Rifles, a few types of shotguns, various handguns, some knives, and brass knuckles. A large axe was setting in there, along with a baseball bat and a whip. Looking at this arsenal, Jordan thought to himself that there was a definite difference between being prepared for trouble and asking for trouble. The problem would be finding the proper balance.
Taking a few steps back from his chest, Jordan took a minute to think of his options. Finally deciding what he would carry, Jordan held out both hands with his palms opened. A small two shot derringer pistol and a sheathed Bowie knife flew into his hands. He slid the derringer into a boot holster at his ankle, and stored the knife at the small of his back. As an after thought, he held out his hand and a thirty foot bullwhip flew into his grasp. While he had a hold of it, the whip started to coil up seemingly on its own accord. Giving the whip a second to coil up, Jordan attached it on a specially designed hanger under his left arm. Feeling more comfortable now, he put a denim jacket on over it all, concealing all of his weapons. Jordan shut the lid of his case, arranged the rest of his luggage on top of it so he would have one hand free, and started walking up to his new school.
“Okay Jordan, you’re ready for just about anything now.” the young man thought to himself, “Just walk into the front hall and state your piece. These folks might be able to help you, and if they can’t, you haven’t lost anything by trying.”
Looking at the Xavier Institute outside of the confines of the cab was an unsettling experience for Jordan. Wealth did not mean much to him, and his family had never really had a lot of money. The thought that anyone would have used money to buy a place this big was an alien concept to Jordan. That it had been bought in the past for a single family boogled his mind. At least it wasn't being used for only one family at the moment. "Well, unless you consider a collection of oddities as family," murmered Jordan under his breath.
Pulling down his Stetson as he pulled his luggage to the front door, he made sure that none of his thoughts were showing on his face as he lifted his fist and started knocking on the front door. Edited by: Hank at: 9/9/05 12:01 am
...well...Matt told me to get my butt here so I whipped up a post last night with Porter. You can send Pyro down though, it'd be better with the additional guy, Porter would call someone anyway so maybe Jean sends Pyro to meet the new arrival and then Pyro can take the other kid off Porters hands, I can't see Porter being a tour guide, so this is perfect if you want to play it out that way.. in any case, here's my postie! Mwuhahaha!
The excitement of the weekend hadn’t really lingered long for Darren, the pink skinned mutant too focused on not really caring to be caught up in the hostile aftermath of not only a missing student but an ample handful of victims left in the doctors care. There wouldn’t have been anything the dimensional teleporting mutant could have done, unless he dragged his would be attackers to another reality with him, something he may be very willing to do and so his recruitment on teams had been held off until his attitude changed for the better. Deep down he was a good kid and he always did mean well, he just went about getting things done the wrong way, more often then not letting his anger lead him on and often into trouble. Speaking of which, Jean removed his mobile emitter the other day after he gave the substitute teacher for her English class some hassle, he wasn't at all pleased wandering around all pink, usually he got to hide it behind the illusion the device offered.
His twin sister helped keep him on the right path though, helped as best she could to stop him from recklessly using his ability to reality jump and go searching for their mother, who was lost out there somewhere with the rest of the reality hoppers. It wasn’t just his mother though, Clarice gave birth to them here only was pulled from this reality in order to finish off her mission, whether she was willing or not, at least she had their father there with her, but Darren would have rather had Mimic and Blink here with them. There was the additional catch that Darren’s powers were subdued here, his ability to mimic abilities and store them for as long as he wished was a powerful gift, one the Wolverine’s two eldest were often praised and grumbled over for having. Although their use of the powers faded, Darren could find three unrelated and powerful abilities, then use them at his leisure, he could be a telepath like Xavier or a shape shifter or anything he could come across. Only in this world all he could do was pick up the mutant abilities of others, get a vague understanding for their basics but the only way to develop this power was to go to another reality where they become available for him to use.
And even with his sisters fretting, the pink skinned youth found himself teleporting out of this reality and into any one of a number of others. Everyone got to be trained in their powers, everyone but him, and he didn’t appreciate being told what he could and couldn’t do with his abilities. It wasn’t like he was hurting anyone, although he understood that there was fear if he went to another reality with someone else and his portal pulled him back but his companion wasn’t close enough then they would be trapped in that other world. But every power had their risk, and Darren wasn’t asking for company, even though a few students had tried talking him into taking them somewhere with him, he wasn’t thoughtless enough to try it just yet, not without a strong reason. Besides, with training the teleporting mutant was hoping to be able to backtrack the dimensions he’s been to, he isn’t sure how to do it yet but he has noticed that each portal he has opened has had a different vibe to it, something only he could notice, but still something he was sure was important.
Not every portal was opened on purpose, it sometimes got triggered by his volatile emotions, more often actually that being the cause of his dimensional hop and not some unprepared trip across reality. Even when angry he had more common sense then that, usually the portals would open up underneath or behind him, making him fall into it or turn around and just stumble across into another realm. Any power that seemed useful was thereby snatched up around the school, locked away for any off chance he would be whirled away to another land, so far Wolverine’s healing factor had been a common ally in Darren’s x-gene arsenal, but it was a hard choice to pick only two more abilities from the many available.
Right now Darren didn’t care about other dimensions or useless powers, all he wanted to do was grab something to eat, and if he could manage that without having any interruptions he’d be grateful. But such wishful thinking was more often then not, just that. Living in a school, with all the hustle and bustle of hundreds of lives all working together, it mean that interruptions were generally a given. And this was yet again proven right as a knock echoed through the hall, only three or so students were there but they had been talking and were walking off having overheard the call for attention, meaning it was left to Darren to deal with it or ignore it. If he had any hopes of being put onto a team he should at least start playing nice…
A reluctant sigh was groaned as he came off the last stair and arrived at the doors, a hand grabbing onto the handle and pulling it open, his other arm resting against the other door which was still closed to bar the others way. After all, students who live or school here don’t waltz up and knock to be allowed in, not unless they were really ditzy and deserved to be treated like idiots, at least in Darren’s opinion.
"What is it?" White eyes peered at the other guy standing on the front steps, his white iris visible but blending in with the rest of his eye well enough that at a short distance they could easily be overlooked. The lavender hued 17 year old gave a stern look over the other male and then pointedly stared at the other’s eyes, still blocking his entrance but not really meaning it to be rude, under all the anger Darren was still an overly protective guy, and he’d be damned if he’d let just anyone tramp on into his school.
Re: A new student arrives (anyone can post)
John was once again on what he now liked to refer to as “collection duty”, although he was not part of the official staff of the institute he was still expected to help in small ways in the running of the school and the job he seemed to be given most often was that of meeting new students as they arrived at the institute. Today he had been given a vague description of the institute’s new arrival and he had to admit that he thought that this meeting may be slightly more interesting than the previous ones.
Being bored most of the time he found himself stood in front of the main doors ten minutes before the time Jean had told him the student would be here. It made no real difference to him be bored inside or outside the latter was probably the better option anyway. So he decided to settle himself against one of the large pillars that framed the front door. To any one watching he would appear to just be casually resting until the boy arrived. But to whoever was on the other end of the surveillance cameras, he would be positioning himself in the blind spot that they offered. From here he could see out on to the drive while being concealed in the shadows. He knew spying on students was not a regular practice but he felt that he needed to do something to brighten his day.
It was not long before a cab came down the drive to stop in the turning circle in front of the entrance. Out of it did indeed step a rather unusual individual, at least as far as his clothing was concerned. The torn jeans he could cope with, that was the new style around here, but the hat… that was just one step to far. Oh well, some things just couldn’t be helped and this would probably the only time he would have dealing with this kid so he figured that he should just get it over with.
He was just about to step out from his hiding place when the kid did something that struck him as strange. He pulled out his suitcase and opened it. Could he not wait to be given a room to start unpacking? What happened next was not only strange but darn right worrying. The “student” started unpacking various weapons and hiding them about himself. John shot a worried look up at the security cameras, and knew that they would let him handle it… as long as he did not burn the place down.
Right he would try the “just put the gun, whip and whatever else down” approach and hope that it worked if not he would just have to get his point across a little more firmly and for that he needed to stay outside. So he waited until the mutant had walked up to the front door and started to knock before stepping out to the boys left. To his great surprise and slight amusement someone actually answered the door. And it did not take long for John to realise who it was for as it stood Porter was one of the institutes more distinctive students. Pyro hesitated for a moment wanting to see how the scene would play out but because this new arrival was a walking arsenal he decided to step in.
“You must be Jordan. I’m your guide for today, but before I let you through the front door would you mind giving me all of your little gizmos, we have children here.”
He knew how awful that last soppy bit about kids sounded but this guy was supposed to be on their side so he figured he better give him the wherewithal to make an intelligent decision and avoid a messy confrontation. He smiled the teleporting mutant a smile that was as much a warning as a sign that he approved of the younger mutants wish to not just let anyone in. had he been late to this meeting, Darren could have been the only thing standing between the school and this dodgy cowboy guy. Not that it would have made much difference, seeing as security was tight and all students possessed an array of powers, but a fight indoors would simply ruin the upholstery. Re: A new student arrives (anyone can post)
Jordan looked at the pink skinned guy who opened the door and wondered how the poor guy ever was able to go out in public. Well this is strange. I'm being stared at like I'm the wierdest guy on Earth by a guy with pink skin. Keeping this thought in mind, Jordan was more willing than usual to over look the guy's rudeness. And let's face it Jordan, you don't exactly look like Mr. Nice Upstanding Citizen, he thought ruefully to himself. It was about this time that Jordan noticed a camera. He also noticed that it was aimed at where he had selected his small arsenal in the driveway.
He had just enough time to think Oh crap when a voice said to him, “You must be Jordan. I’m your guide for today, but before I let you through the front door would you mind giving me all of your little gizmos, we have children here.”
Jordan turned slightly to look at the guy who had spoken to him. Jordan replied in a sarcastic tone, Yeah, I can see how I'm going to fight off a whole school full of fellow mutants with a peashooter derringer that I have to reload aftrer two shots and a leather bullwhip. I'm sure that it puts me on the same level of danger as a pyrokinetic or lightning elemental. Inside his mind, Jordan was wondering why they were treating him like he was armed to the teeth. It wasn't like he was carrying anything on him that could cause mass havok and destruction.
He had left everything he could do that with in his metal case.
Cutting back on his sarcasm and halfway expecting this new guy to hit him with ice or a mental blast, or maybe just change into metal and whip the crap out of him, Jordan said in a much more serious tone, Actually, it's been almost seven months since I last went anywhere without some form of weapon close at hand. Last time I left all my weapons out of reach, a lot of bad stuff happened. But I can understand why you don't want me to bring a gun inside. I'll let you carry it as long as I can carry my whip. Is that good enough? Just take good care of it cause it's been in the family for a while. As soon as Jordan said this, he reached down and drew his derringer from his boot, flipped it in his hand so the barrels were pointing at him, and handed the small pistol grip first to the older guy.
Jordan said this calmly enough, but inside he was thinking back to a day in his last school when he didn't have any weapons. Three students decided that they would get back at people who had picked on them by killing them. Five of Jordan's classmates had died that day, along with Jordan's innocence about the world. For in order to keep those students from taking any more life, Jordan had to take the lives of those three. It was also the same day he learned he was a mutant.
His powers included an epidermis resistant to small arms fire, the ability to summon his personal weapons to him, and the ability to animate any flexible weapon he held. So that probably negated the whole act of allowing another to carry one of his weapons, but the gesture was more symbolic than practical. Jordan also knew that most of the students at this school would be several degrees of power higher than him, so he was relunctant to give up control of the weapons he had because they represented one area that he had mastery over.
Dragging his mind back to the present, Jordan watched both the pink skinned student and the older guy who had challenged him, cautiously waiting to see their next move.
Re: A new student arrives (anyone can post)
It seemed like moments after opening the door, Porter’s ‘good graces’ were already being intruded on but one of the new arriving teacher assistances… or whoever the guy was. The young mutant knew Pyro used to be a student here but John wasn’t someone Darren had a lot of interactions with and so an indignant stare was all the mutant code named Porter could do as watching the older mutant take things into his own hands.
“You must be Jordan. I’m your guide for today, but before I let you through the front door would you mind giving me all of your little gizmos, we have children here.” Being honest, ‘gizmos’ hadn’t brought up images of guns, but instead little devices much like say Porter’s mobile holographic emitter. Whatever the newbie had on himself was obviously deemed dangerous, which was hilarious to Darren as he considered all the mutants who had power to cause mass destruction. Looking between the summoning mutant and the fire kinetic one, Porter didn’t happen to miss the look Pyro had shot towards him, it wasn’t often the pink skinned mutant got a look like that, even if it wasn’t brimming with pride there was still something in there that forced Porter to tone down his outward hostility towards the older male. It was like with Beast, at least a fraction of the way he looked when Porter did something right, anything he did could always be measured up by the look in the faces of those around him. Which wasn’t always so great for the sensitive mutant when he caught people staring at him in a way which obviously meant they were seeing a boy with pink skin and that just seemed out of the world to them. Very much like the look the new arrival had previous had upon seeing Porter at the doorway.
"Yeah, I can see how I'm going to fight off a whole school full of fellow mutants with a peashooter derringer that I have to reload aftrer two shots and a leather bullwhip. I'm sure that it puts me on the same level of danger as a pyrokinetic or lightning elemental." At that comment Porter’s attention flared into focus, fair enough mutants could be dangerous, but bringing a gun into the school said two things; first that maybe this guy was going to cause trouble, or second if he wasn’t intending on such he just didn’t feel safe in a school of freaks. The latter ruffled Porters feathers more then the idea of getting shot at, at least being a heartless murderer gave the guy an excuse as to why he run around shooting up the place, being a student who thought he couldn’t trust himself with his new classmates was another insult all together.
"Actually, it's been almost seven months since I last went anywhere without some form of weapon close at hand. Last time I left all my weapons out of reach, a lot of bad stuff happened. But I can understand why you don't want me to bring a gun inside. I'll let you carry it as long as I can carry my whip. Is that good enough? Just take good care of it cuase it's been in the family for a while." To get on Porter’s bad side was easier then most people cared to tolerate, but in this case at least it was relatively justifiable. The hand on the other door gripped it tighter as Porter thought over his assessment of this arrival, obviously a dim witted moron who had little faith in his fellow mutants. A look of indignant disgust fell on Porters face, the pink skinned mutant always taking any insult on mutants in general as a personal attack.
So many things flooded Porter’s mind, so many witty snap backs ready to spill forth, but instead Porter just kept his expression for those few precious moments of being overwhelmed on how best to reply. In the end simplicity one, Porter taking a step back and just slamming the door shut with a flick of his arm. If that trigger happy airhead thought being armed in any way should be permitted just because all of them had the x-gene, then he was a few bullets short of a full round. If only Porter’s powers weren’t suppressed, then Darren would show that jerk just what level of danger he was trying to keep up with. With the other two on the other side of the door, Porter just stalked down the hall, returning to his first priority of getting something to eat. And to think, Porter was going to sacrifice food for that bum!
Re: A new student arrives (anyone can post)“Yeah, I can see how I'm going to fight off a whole school full of fellow mutants with a peashooter derringer that I have to reload after two shots and a leather bullwhip. I'm sure that it puts me on the same level of danger as a pyrokinetic or lightning elemental.”
The new student’s tone of voice revealed two things to John. Firstly, that this new arrival was the typical annoying teen that had let whatever power life had gifted him with go to his head and now that he was in a place where he was no longer unique or powerful he felt he needed to sound sarcastic to cover up his apprehension. And secondly that he had a healthy respect for pyrokinetic mutants which in his present company was a good thing.
“Actually, it's been almost seven months since I last went anywhere without some form of weapon close at hand. Last time I left all my weapons out of reach, a lot of bad stuff happened.”
John had to bite back his own sarcastic comment that would have gone along the lines of “well the last time I stepped out my room bad things happened and yet here I am”. Why was it that so many people out there thought that they could save the world on their own? He had made it his business to cheat bad guys out of their money and he knew for a fact that every time that one gets arrested three more spring up to fill the place that had been vacated.
“But I can understand why you don't want me to bring a gun inside. I'll let you carry it as long as I can carry my whip. Is that good enough? Just take good care of it cause it's been in the family for a while.”
John did not particularly relish the idea of holding a gun, he had never lowered himself to that kind of level before but then again he did know that not everyone could burn their enemies to a cinder with a single thought. As for the boys refusal to give up the whip it was not really a problem but it signalled that this new arrival would be the type that would cause problems, he was obviously not someone who was good at community living.
Before John had the time to respond to Jordan he was surprised to find that Porter had not been so tollerant when it came to the whole sarcastic attitute and had uncerimoniously slammed the door in their faces. With a shrug John turned his attention back to his more emidiate problem and held out his hand to receive the gun. Once he had it in hand he bent down and opened the box out of which the weapon had originally come. He was not surprised to find that the rest of the arsenal in the box was a lot more dangerous than this small gun. He sighed, he was going to have to go and put this in the safe in Jeans office for he could not let the kid keep it. But he knew that he was in for some arguing before he would be allowed to put it away. So first he would try and use a small tour of the school to convince his new friend of the wisdom of giving up his weapons without a fight.
“Right I’ll carry the box and we can start the tour of your new home.”
With that he bent down and picked up the not to surprisingly heavy box shot the boy a cheeky grin and opened the front door. Edited by: catfood74 at: 9/12/05 12:14 am
Re: A new student arrives (anyone can post)
Jordan could tell from the look on his tour guide's face that he didn't like guns much. He watched as the guy put his derringer back in the weapons case. He lifted the case easier than Jordan would have thought considering the weight. Jordan was also realizing how dumb his rather high level of paranioa was, and decided to try to make some sort of amends. He figured that the pink guy had probably told some others already about how the new student was some sort of psychotic. "Well, he might not be to far off on that point," Jordan thought to himself. Jordan was also wondering why everyone automatically assumed that he would use his weapons against his soon to be classmates.
The whole thought that the guy with a gun can only be here to hurt us routine always got Jordan a little upset. He had never used his formidible arsenal to hurt anyone out of selfish reasons, he had only used it to protect others. The very idea of gunning down another in cold blood sickened Jordan, but he knew that he could do it without regrets if his life or the life of another was on the line. He also disliked how everyone thought that the gun in and of itself was dangerous. To Jordan's way of thinking, the dangerous part of any power or weapon was the person using it.
Jordan decided to drop his rather antagonistic attitude and act a little more like himself. His main reason for bringing his weapons out had been to see if this school would be able to locate them through security. He wanted a little first hand experience to see if he could rely on the systems to identify threats. He had assumed that a lot of his weapons would be taken and locked up, but he hoped that there would be some way to get a few out for target practice and to practice his abilities.
Jordan was also glad that he got to keep his whip. He had only recently discovered that he could animate flexible weapons he was holding like whips and chains and control them with his mind. They basically responded as if they were a part of him. This effectivly gave him an additional thirty feet (10-12 meters) of reach, which was good if something was just a little to high to get a hold of. Besides, it was a very versitile piece of equipment able to scare some people, fight at a distance, use as a rope, and lots of other applications. Jordan hadn't fully explored this aspect of his powers yet, and wasn't sure if there was anything else he could do with it yet.
“Right I’ll carry the box and we can start the tour of your new home.” said Jordan's guide.
Before they got into the door, Jordan reached behind his back and took his Bowie knife out from the small of his back. He told his new guide, "Hey, I think the cameras missed one weapon on me." Jordan removed the blade with its sheath still on it, and opened his case and set it inside with the rest. Deciding that some cooperation might also be in order, Jordan then reached into his left coat pocket and took out a lock and key.
"If you think its necessary, you can also slap this on my gun case. I'd also like to know what your name is cause it'll get really wierd just calling you "hey you, sir," or "That guy"." Edited by: Hank at: 9/12/05 6:11 pm
Re: A new student arrives (anyone can post)
Before John had even been able to step into the entrance hall he was stopped once more by Jordan. "Hey, I think the cameras missed one weapon on me."
As it turned out the security cameras had not missed the extra weapon and neither had Pyro. He had just been so taken aback by the new student’s attitude that the knife had momentarily been forgotten. He was sure that the act of giving up the weapon was supposed to be taken as a sign of good will but it ended up annoying the older more. Did the misplaced cowboy think that openly lying to someone’s face and owning up to it was going to impress him? John kind of felt that he was being taken for a fool, which was not the case; Ok he had not always used his intellect for the good of mankind but he was as sharp a mind as any here.
Biting back the urge to give this pup introduction to his powers John just watched steely faced as the blade was placed in the box he was still holding. He was somewhat grateful that the weapon added to the already heavy box was not a large one for he was not relishing the idea of having to cart someone else’s luggage around the school. But in this case it just couldn’t be helped and he would just have to grin and bear it.
"If you think its necessary, you can also slap this on my gun case.”
John looked down at the lock and key being proffered to him. Now there was an idea, lock up your weapons as a sign of good faith, pity this guy had not had the foresight to apply this reasoning before getting here. It really would have made first impressions a lot more favourable. John couldn’t help but think that it was probably a good thing that he had been the one to greet this new arrival as he might not have been allowed through the front door had it been Scott or Logan.
“I'd also like to know what your name is cause it'll get really weird just calling you "hey you, sir," or "That guy"."
Was it him or was this guy actually getting more annoying… He sighed and decided that it might be a good idea to provide him with a name as if he heard him say “hey you, sir” one more time he would definitely have to roast him.
“It’s a bit late for the lock now, I’ll put the box in the safe and you can have access to it for training purposes later. As for my name it is John, now can we get going this junks heavy.”
John had no intention of giving the kid his codename, for it was something that either your team mates or your enemies are aware of. And it would give away what his mutant abilities were and that was giving the newbie an advantage.
OOC: Just wanted to specify that I’m not trying to be horrible to you, it’s just that Pyro is well kinda stuck up and arrogant sooo please forgive him it’s just the way he is
Re: A new student arrives (anyone can post)
“It’s a bit late for the lock now, I’ll put the box in the safe and you can have access to it for training purposes later. As for my name it is John, now can we get going this junks heavy.”
Thank God I actually got a name to go with the face. Guy's a little bit arrogant. I could use one of my powers to animate my whip to wrap around the case and use it to carry it. Course, I don't think this guy would know a genuine gesture of goodwill if it rose up and bit him on the .... Jordan thought to himself. Jordan was also glad that he was going to have access to his weapons for training. That also implied that he could use them for target practice and he definitly did not want his handgun skills to go down the drain. Jordan knew from experience that rifles and shotguns could be picked up weeks or months later and still be used effectivly, but handgun skills tended to get rusty fast. He had no intention of letting that happen to him, cause while he wasn't overly proud, he knew his skill and accuracy with a pistol was exceptional.
Jordan was also having a really hard time seeing this guy as a teacher. He didn't seem the type who would find much joy in steady work, and he didn't seem to awfully altruistic . In truth, he reminded Jordan of his uncle Freddie who was in prison for being a con artist. The biggest difference being that Freddie was also one of the stupidest guys around cause he always had to brag about his escapdes which led to him always getting caught while John seemed way to smart to do anything of that sort. He hadn't even given Jordan any clue about what his powers were, so this guy definitely knew when to keep quite. Jordan was getting a feeling that this was not a guy to play poker with. Jordan thought that John was probably under the impression that he didn't have much in the brains department, but that was okay to Jordan cause he liked being underestimated.
Jordan also wasn't bothered by showing any of his powers around John since Jordan knew that his abilities basically sucked, so he was left basically with skill in a fight. He didn't like the arrogance John had, but he figured that it was probably a constant character trait on John's part. Jordan figured that it was some sort of defensive action. It would be funny seeing this guy truck all of my stuff around for a while, but I've probably used up all of the good graces I've got for today. Might as well make it a litttle easier on John. Wait a minute. What am I thinking? Oh crap, I'm going to be nice again.
"You know, there is an easier way to carry that thing."
Jordan took his lock back from John, locked his case himself, and took out his whip. He kept it coiled and laid the coils on the case while holding on to the whips handle. His brow furrowed slightly as he concentrated on what he wanted the whip to do. It seemed to come alive and coil around the case like a large snake. Then the whip lifted the case out of John's hands, the whip swaying sligthly but keeping the case a good two to three feet off of the ground. The whip was holding all of the case's weight, and Jordan was simply holding on to the handle. Jordan directed the whip to keep the case a good 15 feet in front of him so John could keep an eye on it while Jordan followed him, and so nobody would get the idea that Jordan was going to reach for something. Nothing to see here folks. Just a guy taking a big metal box for a little walk. Oh, don't worry about the fact that it's floating off of the ground, it does that all the time. Actually, it looked a lot more like a slowly swaying snake that had a box in its mouth.
Jordan gave the key back to John and said with a slight smile on his face, That might be a little easier than hauling it through brute strength. So, where are we going first? Edited by: Hank at: 9/13/05 4:04 am
Re: A new student arrives (anyone can post)
Once in the front hall John could feel Jordan studying him and couldn’t help but wonder what the new student thought of him. He knew that he was not the type of guy you expected to be greeted by when coming to a school. In all normal boarding schools one of the teachers or the headmaster would be there to welcome any new arrivals but Xavier’s was far from normal, and he was far from being a teacher. He could imagine that this kid probably thought he was part of the teaching staff here but that he could safely say would never happen, unless they decided that teaching teens to con others out of their excess money.
"You know, there is an easier way to carry that thing."
John turned and raised an eye brow as he wondered what this “other way” was. Jean had not briefed him on their new arrivals powers so this should be interesting to say the least. He held out the box a bit and waited, he did not think this punk could pull anything dangerous and the entrance hall was blessedly empty for the moment, so if anything did go wrong then no one else would be involved. The kid proceeded to lock the case, obviously as a sign of good faith, and then he took out his whip. He was obviously not intending to put the weapon back in the box or he would have done so before hand, so this hade to be something different.
He watched, as the youth’s brow furrowed in concentration and had John not grown up in a mutant school he would have been surprised to find that the whip that was laid coiled on the box started to move. It wrapped itself around the case and slowly lifted out of his grip. He found the removal of the excess weight a relief but after he took a step back and looked at the boy holding the whip on the end of which the chest was balanced he wasn’t so sure it was good for his image. He suddenly pictured himself inside one of those old Harry Potter movies he had watched back when he was a kid, he sighed he would have to try and avoid any places where Lorna might see him. He had no intention of letting this new guy ruin his image with the beautiful English teacher.
”That might be a little easier than hauling it through brute strength. So, where are we going first?”
It was definitely easier but judging by the looks they were getting this little tour would not go unnoticed. But he was at least grateful that his embarrassment was temporary, he would not have coped well with being Purple like Porter. Deciding on the best course of action, John turned down the corridor that led past the dinning room, one of the most important places for the new student to know about.
“That in there is the dinning room; it is the place where you will probably have most of your meals. Although if you are delicate about what you eat there is a kitchen where you can prepare your own food.”
The corridors were not overly busy at this time of day as most of the students were in classes. But there was the occasional older student that was going about his own business mostly to and from the library which was on the same level.
“Down that corridor is the library, it seems that a lot of the older students like to use it to help with their homework. I’m also lead to understand that they have a decent collection of books to reads, classic English litt, fantasy, sci-fi all that stuff.”
He continued along the main hallway and headed towards a set of stairs that would take them up to the next floor on which the guest bedrooms were located.
Re: A new student arrives (anyone can post)
Jordan thought that John seemed to be easily embarrased. You'd think that he wouldn't mind it looking a little goofy since it takes a lot of weight off his hands.
Jordan made notes of where all the rooms were, listening as John siad what each one was.

Jordan considered this to be one of the most important pieces of information he had heard all day. He was also glad that he could prepare some of his own meals.

Your lead to understand? A place with as much money as this place puts together a library, and you don't even want to take a look for yourself? I'm nothin' but a dumb hick and I'm interested.Jordan hoped that John was saying this just to uphold his image. Jordan couldn't understand how anyone couldn't take advantage of reading. An odd opinion for one who looked like he would be indifferent to learning.
Where am I going to stay in this place, and where am I going to store my stuff?

OOC: Right I've moved the thread to the dorm corridors. To get there click on dorms and then when you get to the new page scroll down right to the bottom and you'll find the forum.
Re: A new student arrives (anyone can post)
I found where you posted at, but it won't let me post there. I've tried logging in several times, but it still won't let me post anything there.
Re: A new student arrives (anyone can post)
ok give it another try now that Matt has worked out what's wrong and if you still haven't managed to get the post up tomorrow I'll just move the thread to the normal corridors.
Edit: *glances at account* this isn't mine, *looks down at comp* ooooh this isn't mine either.... well that's what you get for posting on your housemates computer *sigh*Edited by: Sephra85 at: 9/22/05 5:58 pm
