A small problem?
Date TBD.... and dragging Amber along with Zira's permission....
.......................
Hope wasn’t something Crystal had felt a lot of in the past year. In fact there had been times when she thought she might never feel it again. Or if she did, that it would only be because Amber wanted her too! But somehow, during these last few days at the Institute, something very like it had started to filter back in at the edges of her consciousness, easing some of the tension out of her body and replacing the haunted look in her eye with one of dawning optimism. Of course it was still early days she told herself every morning as she woke up and found her younger sister still the same sweet girl she had been the night before. And there were bound to be setbacks along the way. But still…..For the first time since their parent’s death she wasn’t facing things alone and that in the end made all the difference.
They were all so nice, the people here. Strange yes…most of them with powers she couldn’t hope to understand, but nice all the same. Supportive! Understanding! God it felt so good to be able to talk about what she and Amber had been going through and have them actually listen, rather than just stare at her as if she was as crazy as her sister was supposed to be. To be honest her relief had been so great the first time that Dr McCoy had promised to do all he could to help with Amber’s problem, making her believe that a solution was actually possible instead of a pipe dream she had been unrealistically following, that she had ended up tears, prompting instant comfort and amazingly good hot chocolate from the large furry physician. As if that wasn’t weird enough in itself that someone who looked so different could still be so reassuring. And yet he undoubtedly was.
Crystal had found herself warming to him from the start. Once the initial shock of his appearance had worn off that was. She had thought herself prepared for the meeting. After all, when you had done some research into mutants it didn’t take you very long to come across Hank McCoy’s name, accompanied as it was by the inevitable photographs. Yet in the end the reality of coming face to face with a large blue feline in a med coat still managed to make you stop and stare no matter how much you had promised yourself that you wouldn’t. Then you saw his eyes and the kindness that lay in them and somehow all the rest didn’t matter.
Hank had been the first in a long time to pay attention to her, Crystal, as opposed to Amber. Even if she hadn’t asked him to. And she had to admit that it hadn’t been too soon. Everything he had said about her needing to look after herself if she was going to be able to look after her sister was true. But until now she hadn’t had the means to do it. Until they had arrived at the Institute, that was!. Just to be able to sleep soundly for example, knowing that Amber was being looked after, was a blessing Crystal had thought lost forever. And she had to admit that even just a few nights rest had made the world of difference.
Take today for example. For the first time in ages she had woken up really looking forward to spending the day with Amber, instead of just hoping against hope to make it through intact until nightfall. Not that they planned to do very much, just hang out and enjoy some of the facilities the school had to offer. Or, as they were doing now, take a stroll round the beautiful and extensive grounds that surrounded the Institute. It was a nice day for a walk Crystal had to admit, not to cold and with enough sunshine to bring all the colours in the gardens fully to life. It felt good to be out in the fresh air, better still to be chatting and laughing with Amber, listening to her tell of how she was settling into the school, which seemed to be better than Crystal could have imagined.
Crystal had brought her sister to Xavier’s in a last desperate attempt to keep her power in check. She had hoped to find help, she hadn’t dreamed that they might also find happiness. Yet now it actually did seem possible, a new start for both of them. A future which didn’t have the threat of madness or suicide hanging over it every step of the way! Maybe even some memories that not even Ambers power could take from them. “Oh” Crystal said suddenly “Quick Amber I have an idea.”
Then she was off running and laughing as she hadn’t done in longer than she could remember, heading towards the great metal gates of the Institute. She could see the surprise in the eyes of the security guard as they arrived panting beside the gatehouse but he soon grinned back as Crystal waved and drew out her camera. It was never far from her side. After all you never knew when that elusive photo opportunity was going to present itself to you. Or when there would be a moment you wanted to capture forever. Like this one.
Here she said to her sister Stand right over there next to the sign and smile! It seemed a simple enough shot. One teenage girl standing next to a plaque on which was written Xavier’s Institute for gifted children. What it meant though was so much more. And that was something Crystal wanted the photo to show. Lost now in her art, Crystal set her bag down on the ground, her concentration fixed wholly on the way the light reflected off the gold metal and caught itself in her sister’s hair. That was what she wanted to catch! That sparkle! A gleam seen only for an instant! Like hope made visible! The symbol of a new life full of happy days like this one. And a homage to the place that was making it possible. Edited by: HankMcCoy13 at: 11/12/06 8:08 pm
Daniel finished pulling the tight red material over his arms to complete the funny looking red and blue jump suite that made up what he called his power suite. The suite was created very carefully using various materials, plastics and even his own skin cells. It held a leather appearance, yet it was stretchy and it breathed well, a scientific work of art; it also helped protect him from harm, as it was quite durable. But why go to such extremes? Why not dress in normal clothes? There was one problem with that, as the young girl Eva had discovered. Daniel could use his mutant powers to alter his size, shape and density, in short, shrink himself to any size. But he was not very good at shrinking other things yet, clothes included. He needed an outfit that could change with him. That is what his suite was for. He added samples of his own skin cells and fused them in with the material; the suite could grow and shrink with him with out ripping or falling off. Now Daniel was a genius, but even he needed help with a project like this. Of course he would never admit where he received his help from, needless to say however he had more then enough money to fund such a project. After the body suite was on, he checked himself in the mirror and smiled, the gloves and boots completed the ensemble. He was ready. He wore a brown trench coat to cover the funny looking suite, and a pair of sunglasses to protect his precious eyes.
(Two hours later)
Dan parked a fair distance away from the institute and walked until he was a relatively safe distance away. This was as far as he could go, at least with out making himself a little less conspicuous. He took off his sunglasses and rested them in the pocket of the trench coat, he then took off the coat and laid it in the grass behind a rock.
“Xavier institute…new age security, equipped with brain scan technology, advanced weaponry I can only assume. No doubt video surveillance…shouldn’t be too hard.”
Of course Dan didn’t know any of this for sure, a lot of it was pure speculation. Dan was the sorts to believe in UFO’s and government conspiracies. After all, he was a mutant; the biggest conspiracy of all.
It was dangerous, but Dan would go the last few feet as small and inconspicuously as he could. This process was quick and relatively painless, it lasted at least an hour, that was how long it would take for him to reverse the process. He was still unsure why but he figured it had something to do with his body adjusting to the new size and chemical layout of his miniscule size. The smaller he allowed himself to be the longer it would take to reverse. It put him at a dangerous spot, but as he developed his powers, he would no doubt develop a solution to that problem.
To anyone watching, it would appear as if he just disappeared. Almost in the blink of an eye, now you see him now you don’t. Dan now stood at a grand total of 2 and a half inches. It was the smallest he could reduce himself. He was not only extremely short, but his weight, width, length, all dimensions were perfectly proportionate.
The process left Dan somewhat dizzy and disoriented. However after gaining his strength and bearings once more, he was ready to begin his mission.
“Let’s see your security system detect me now…”
Being a book worm normally meant one would neglect their physical body, this was not the case for Dan. He was somewhat short and slender, but he was in shape. He was in fact in extraordinary physical shape. This was needed for the 10 k run he would now have to embark on to make it to the institute, which in reality was a few meters away, fifty at most. He ran at the very side of the sidewalk, beside the grass.
(Ten minutes later)
Dan was a few steps from the gate, when a shadow overcast the sun that until a moment ago had lit his path. Curious he stopped running and turned around. The sight that was now before him could only be described as immaculate. He was unsure what her name was, who she was, how old she was, but he knew one thing. She was gorgeous, stunning, HOT! Dan froze in his tracks, even though the sky scraper of a woman was walking towards him. Her shoes each big enough to end his life with out much concern slapping the pavement of the ground with each step. She was with someone, another attractive female. Crystal’s right foot landed about three inches from Dan, directly in front of him, then almost as fast as it was placed there it lifted above him and landed what seemed like miles away. He watched her with his neck crained up as she walked over him, her friend walking off to the side.
Quickly Dan spun on his right foot to see where they were going, however he was greeted with more darkness and a loud THUD!
Dan found himself under the crushing weight of something really big. Not quite big enough to be a foot or anything. But he was heavy, it felt like he was trapped under a king sized mattress. The brown leather item appeared to be the girls hand bag. She has ignorantly dumped it directly on top of him. His suit protected him from breaking any bones. At least this gave him a chance to test out the suites durability.
Stand right over there next to the sign and smile!
The voice was deafening. Dan wiggled and squirmed to get out from his prison, but his entire lower torso was trapped. He watched the beauty stand, directly beside him now, aiming a camera at her friend. She was totally oblivious to his peril. That’s when an idea struck him. It would be a risk, but he was willing to take it. He was almost positive they were students of the school, perhaps new students or even guests taking pictures before they entered. That is why they stood with the guard. If they were entering the school, he could enter with them. It would save him hours of running and hiding. This woman could do all the walking for him, then at the right time he would sneak away and she’d be none the wiser.
Dan had to act fast, he reached into a side compartment in his suite and pulled out a rope with a hook attached to the end. After managing to hook it on the lace of the woman’s shoe, he simply waited for her to shift her foot over ever so slightly, and he was free.
He wasted no time, as soon as he was able to move, he made his way to her hand bag once more and looked it over. He had to act fast, before she grabbed it and lifted it out of his reach. Dan saw his spot. The zipper of the main compartment was slightly open. Climbing the bag, he managed to squeeze himself into the small hole the zipper left. Had he thought this through, he might have realized it would be dark in there, also, the long drop after entering. But he did not, as soon as he squeezed through, he was plunged into darkness, and after falling what seemed like forever, he landed on a very soft surface. The little bit of light he had only revealed giant shadows of what was inside her hand bag. He Squinted to make out what looked like a book, a massive book about the size of a truck. A lipstick tube beside his left leg, and he was sitting on something, soft and cloth. Also, the entrance was well out of his reach. This plan had proven to be poorly thought through. However, he was now on way to the inside of the institute. At least he hoped he was.
Re: A small problem?
She woke up in her usual cheery mood from the dreamless sleep that she always woke from... At least she thought they were dreamless... Either way, when morning rolled around, she was always up happy and excited. This morning was a little different though, she practically hopped out of the bed like a child getting ready for saturday morning cartoons and almost forgot to make her bed before she raced towards her dresser. The cause of her excitement: Crystal. Crystal seemed to be happier and less stressed of late and that was great! As much as she loved her sister, it was the best treat she could have to know that her big sister was happy and smiling more even without her help.
Due to the fact that she had woken up a little late, she was rushing as she got ready for the day but not so much as to skip over all of the neccessities that were included in the morning bundle of actons. Shower was taken, teeth were brushed, hair was taken care of and clothes were all pulled on in record speed. As she almost forgot her diary, she blushed and gave an embarrassed giggle to herself before darting into the room from where she had raced into the hallway she snagged it up before making her way to the meeting spot once more.
Arisa wasn't any less excited when they were walking than when she caught the first glimpse of her sister, an energetic smile on her lips and her eyes almost shining with joy as often happened when she saw the most important person in her life. As they went from one spot to another around the property, Amber went to telling Crystal about the different things she had heard and learned about and managed to keep in her head as opposed to relying on her diary to keep the memories for her. It didn't mean she hdn't written the events and knowledge down, just that she hadn't lost anything recently.
“Oh” Amber paused, looking to her sister to see what was going on, curiosity showing in her smile. “Quick Amber I have an idea.” As her sister ran with a laugh, laughter bubbled out of her as well as she followed. She too gave a cheery friendly wave at the guards. "Here... Stand right over there next to the sign and smile!" Crystal instructed. Amber practically scampered over to the spot and laughed. "I don't think I could keep from smiling even if I tried with how happy I'm feeling." She exclaimed before giving a bright smile.

Re: A small problem?
The shot was there. Crystal didn’t even need to look at the other photos to know that it was true. N fact it had been there from the beginning. Ever since Amber had told her how happy she was.As she had turned and smiled everything had come together in that one perfect moment that Crystal had been waiting to capture.
It happened from time to time. That rare instant when the camera saw exactly what your heart wanted it to. Though that didn’t stop you from taking twenty other photos just to be sure! Because, after all, that was what she had been taught to do. “Trust your instincts” her teacher had told her. “But keep on shooting just in case”So Crystal had done just that with all the dedication the moment deserved. Even if she had known it was pointless. "I don't think I could keep from smiling even if I tried with how happy I'm feeling." Amber had said. And the film had done the rest.
That was after all why Crystal so loved photography. Because it was one of the few things that could actually ‘seize the day’, capturing that one instant you didn’t want to lose and magically transforming it into something you actually could hold on to.And lets face it, especially as far as Amber was concerned, holding on to any moment was far from easy. Still on that front too things seemed to have been going better since their arrival at the Institute. There were no holes that Crystal could detect in her recent memories. No missing hours that would have to be filled in from the notes in her ever present diary. And that alone was cause for celebration. Which was exactly what the sisters interned to do today, in their own modest way that was!
Ever since Amber had been a child the girls had enjoyed swimming together. It was one activity where the difference of age melted away leaving them free simply to appreciate each others company and have fun. The trips to the pool had been like their own private ritual, one of those things that reminded them how close they were, even if Crystal had, with the passing of time, inevitably became more involved in her studies. The pool was special to them and not even the tragedy of their parent’s death had kept them from going, forgetting their problems for a moment as the blue water closed around them. But if death hadn’t stopped them Dark Amber had.
As Amber continued to use her powers, her alter ego's appearances became more and more frequent. A pool full of happy people was like a feeding ground for the evil twin’s malice. After one incident when boy had apparently tried to drown himself claiming that life was suddenly not worth living and then another when a mother had held her child underwater ranting that the little girl had ruined her life Crystal knew that their outings had to stop, that like so many other things n their life her sisters dark side had ruined this for them as well.
Here though, where everyone had powers they had to be wary of and with Amber looking so relaxed and happy maybe they could try again. That was why Crystal had stuffed her bikini and one of Amber’s costumes into her handbag before she had left the room waiting to see how things went on their walk before making her final decision. And things had gone so well. Well enough surely to take the plunge! *Literally!* Crystal thought with a grin.
“That was great Amber” she told her sister. “I don’t think I need any more shots for now! Crystal picked up her bag and thrust the camera into it, little realising that she had a clandestine passenger who might find its metal presence more than uncomfortable. “Though I’ll maybe take some more later. You always look so cute in your swimsuit. “She could see the realisation dawning in Amber’s eyes , her smile widening as Crystal went on.” I was wandering around yesterday and noticed that the Institute has a great pool so I was thinking… why don’t we check it out. After all its been way too long.

OOC.... the bikini in question is black.... and the book squashing Dan is The X Gene.... By Hank McCoy Edited by: HankMcCoy13 at: 11/22/06 2:29 am
Re: A small problem?
Dan was rattled and tossed and mashed when Crystal shoved a new item into the bag then picked it up and swung it over her shoulder. A small whimper escaped his lips As the book pressed harder against him, with the new weight of the camera on top of it.
Faintly he could read the title of the book in the darkness. It was the “X Gene” by Dr Hank McCoy. Dan almost laughed, he thought it was ironic, he would be crushed under the book of his mentor.
There was a bright side to this, it meant she was a student and that there was no doubt where she was heading. He had worried that perhaps she was heading somewhere else and that he would be forced to remain her traveling companion for an indefinite period of time. Also, with all the weight and stuff on him it meant he did not have to worry about the brain scan picking him up. It was PERFECT…however dangerous.
He could hear the muffled voices of the girls and he could feel the world around him begin to shake with movement; a smile creped onto his lips. His adventure had begun. How was he going to get out of here? If she didn’t move the book he was trapped. At least until his hour or so had passed and he could grow a little bit in order to move the book off his chest. Until then, with out help he was stuck.
What if she left before then? Dan frowned, that would not be a productive trip into the institute.
What ever happened, Dan’s number one priority was staying IN the institute, his number two priority? NOT getting caught; especially by Crystal. If he allowed her to find him, he would simply die of embarrassment. He was shy around girls, often his powers would activate simply by talking to or being approached by beautiful girls. It made him even more shy and nervous to be ogled over by a one hundred foot knock out of a woman. Dan would rather battle giant cats and centipedes than be confronted by a beautiful women like Crystal wile at his current size. However with his current predicament, it was something that was completely possible. That made Dan bite his lip. He could only hope. Edited by: Sammy Todlson at: 11/25/06 5:25 pm
Re: A small problem?“That was great Amber... I don’t think I need any more shots for now! Crystal stated. Amber was so happy that she was giggling. It had been hard not to not to laugh to the point where she instinctively covered her mouth with her hand, her having slipped a couple of times during the photo taking to where a couple of the shots had her doing just that. She was in a good mood, more so than she usually was, her mood being enhanced by how happy and at peace her sister looked.
“Though I’ll maybe take some more later. You always look so cute in your swimsuit." Wait... Did Crystal say what she thought she said? Amber's eyes widened and if possible, her smile got bigger. "I was wandering around yesterday and noticed that the Institute has a great pool so I was thinking… why don’t we check it out. After all its been way too long."
A gasp of joy came followed by a happy squeal. "Do you mean it?" The question was more of a statement of amazement than an actual question, her knowing that her sister wouldn't lie to her. It had been a long time since they had last gone swimming and she had missed it even if she hadn't brought it up to anyone. "Yeah! Let's go! I'd... I'd love to go test out the pool!" She was so excited that she was stammering.
Re: A small problem?
The idea was greeted with enthusiasm just as she had been sure it would be.*See* she wanted to tell her sister. *You don’t need powers to make people happy. This is just as good as any emotion you can produce and unlike them its real.* Still.. this wasn’t the time for such a discussion. Not today. Maybe in another week or so if thing continued to go well they could talk. By then maybe Amber would have seen for herself the progress she was making and the positive effect it was having on both of them. Of course Crystal wasn’t stupid. She knew that the problem wouldn’t be solved that easily. But still, if Amber could just start to truly weigh up the pros and cons of using her powers than that would be a great step forward.
To be fair though, she could hardly be expected to fully realise the havoc she was causing if Crystal didn’t tell her about the dark side of her nature that crept out maliciously from behind those innocent eyes and spread pain and suffering all around with malignant glee. And that was something Crystal wasn’t ready to do. Not even now, after all that had gone before. Because she was afraid that if she did, all signs of innocence would fade altogether, to be replaced by despair and perhaps even madness. And that was something she was going to avoid at all costs.
For now though there was no shadow hanging over her sister. Just an infectious joy that Crystal was more than ready to join in with! “Ok . lets go then” she said with a grin. “Last one there’s slowcoach.” And with that she was off running across the grass, her bag banging heavily against her hip as she did so. Though it wasn’t it’s weight that held her back, letting Amber first catch up and then pass her, laughing as she went. Nor was it purely the seven years that separated them!
Rather it was that Crystal had borne the burden of knowing about Dark Amber for both of them. And inevitably it had taken its toll. These last few days of rest had wiped some of the fatigue from her face and restored her fighting spirit. But the white hairs that lay scattered here and there amongst the dark blond ones were there to stay. And so, at least for the moment, was the tiredness that slowed her feet, though not enough to give her sister any real cause for concern. Not that Amber was exactly the world’s greatest sprinter either. In fact both girls had to stop and catch their breath when they finally reached their goal, holding onto each other and trying to gasp in enough air to laugh, even if it hurt.
In the end though they recovered sufficiently to proceed, even if they were both still giggling stupidly when they finally reached the pool changing rooms. They found them empty at this hour of the day when the majority of the students still had classes, , though they had seen activity in the pool itself as they had past.
“Oh lord” Crystal gasped as she took off her blouse and put it down of the seat beside her, revealing the lacy white bra that she wore underneath.. “They must think we’re completely crazy! Anyway .” Opening her bag she dug around inside looking for the swimwear she had put in earlier. “Here’s your swimsuit” She threw the garment towards her sister as she spoke “And here’s… "
"Woah what was that” Her hand had touched something as she pulled out the black bikini top. Something that definitely hadn’t been there when she had put it in. Something decidedly alive. “Hey Amber “. she said regaining her composure and her curiosity at the same time. “I think I’ve got a mouse in my handbag. Poor thing..” The sympathy in her voice was sincere for she had always had a liking for animals.. Even unexpected ones like this . “It must have crawled in when I put my bag down on the grass. Hold on till I catch it.”
And so, the hands that reached in and scooped up the wriggling intruder were gentle and the expression on Crystal's face one of tender concern. At least until she got a good look at what she was holding. Or rather who! For this was no mouse. Unless mice had suddenly decided to wear super hero costumes and set out on a path of world domination that was! No this was definitely a miniature human that Crystal was cradeling scant inches from her suddenly decidedly under clothed breasts. And that changed everything!
Which probably explained why she screamed and promptly dropped him!
Re: A small problem?
Dan fell what seemed like forever until landing on a very soft bouncy surface. He took a second to regain his senses. Where ever he was it was soft, and bluish. He looked up slowly with panic to see the girl looking down on him with a panicked look in her eyes. The real shock came when he realized where he was. It didn’t take him too long to discover that he was laying on his back on her lap! Now it is important to understand, Daniel Andrews is a shy man. Especially around girls, and when they carry the beauty that Crystal happens to carry, it makes it about ten times worse. Not only is he shy, but on a mild level it can be somewhat classified as a phobia.
Afraid of females? To some extent yes, Women were intimidating, he couldn’t explain it. They had the power to accept you or reject you, they were things or beauty, delicate yet powerful…if that made any sense. The root of his discomfort lay in the rejection aspect. Being a bookworm, or a nerd as some coined it, meant he was not always popular with the girls. In fact younger girls ignored the book worm type, at least in high school and such. This lead to a lifetime rejection complex, that rooted back to his early childhood years resulting in his current condition; an unhealthy social phobia of women, and the prettier they were, the worse it got. Add the fact that this one was about a hundred feet tall at this point, and that leaves you with one frightened little Dan.
“Oh god….”
Dan backed up as far as he could, until he came to her knees, any further and he would fall to the ground, a distance that would injure him, if not kill him. He was trapped…to say the least.
Dan always felt this small to be truthful. Even when he was normal size, he felt small and insignificant around girls like Crystal. However now his physical stature matched his emotional one.
“It’s not what you think…I wasn’t spying on you I'd never spy on YOU…n..not that your not worthy of spying on...NO I didn't mean that...I mean your not someone I'd spy on because...well no..but...oh god...oh god...oh god..this isn't going well...”
Dan’s voice chocked back tears, his face was pale white and he was perspiring profusely. The look in Crystals eyes was not a friendly one, she looked angry, and a little frightened. Of course she had to be thinking he was some sort of mutant pervert! Crawling into her swimsuit to get a closer look at her….her…oh god that wasn’t it at all! Even the thought of this made Dan almost faint.
“I..I..I was trying to get into the...into the...well I was just trying to get close to the...GAH no not that..I was trying to brake into this place...arg not this place as in the dressing room, the institute...the Xavier...institute...…I..I..I..I…I..”
He tried to speak but he only stammered and stuttered. Dan hugged his knees and retreated into a curled up ball. She was going to crush him like a bug if she thought he was a peeping tom!
“Please…it’s not what you think I swear…don’t hurt me…”Edited by: Sammy Todlson at: 12/16/06 6:11 pm
Re: A small problem?OK I am shamelessly going to god mod Amber here if I need too.. but with ziras blessing since she has her hands more than full with life at the moment……. and she has to approve the thread before it gets the all clear! So here goes.Oh and the picking up etc was also approved.
...............
The short time she had been at the institute hadn’t prepared Crystal for a situation like this. But then again she doubted that anyone, no matter how used to mutants they might have been, could have expected that they were going to find a man secreted away in the bottom of their handbag. To say that it stunned her would have been an understatement! And when her present state of undress was added into the equation it was perhaps only to be expected that the expression on her face was perhaps less than completely welcoming. Though she hadn’t intended it to be terrifying!
“Oh god….” The voice was like a cartoon characters, deformed by size no doubt but still carrying its message of fear adequately enough to Crystal’s ears. And the frantic scurrying towards what was undoubtedly for him a sheer drop didn’t go unnoticed either. Instinct wanted to take Crystal’s hands up to save him from the fall but then some part of her feared that she would only spook him further. Besides.. her hands were sufficiently occupied trying to preserve what was left of her modesty. Though she was willing to sacrifice it if he actually looked like plummeting to his death.
“It’s not what you think… the intruder went on his panic becoming more and more apparent. Now what exactly did he mean by that? What was she supposed to think? She didn’t exactly have a list of possible motives for diminutive mutants hitching a ride in her accessories. Strangely enough it wasn’t a subject that had ever cropped up when her mother had given her advice on how to deal with men.
“I wasn’t spying on you” her unexpected visitor continued. Spy on? It wasn’t a possibility that had crossed her mind but once he had brought it up it did add a tinge of anger to her regard for a moment Not for long though. Even if her experience of perverts… or at least non manipulated pervert , for Dark Amber could and would turn a saint into a sinner in the blink of an eye, was minimum, this confused boy didn’t seem to be the type. “I'd never spy on YOU…n..not that your not worthy of spying on..”he blurted out his small face just visible enough show how much he regretted making the remark.Which in the long run he shouldn’t have.
It was almost sweet and it certainly took him out of the threat category at least in Crystals mind. If someone you could probably squash like a spider could be said to be a threat that was. And he somehow didn’t strike her as the black widow type. Especially as he dug himself in deeper with each word."
NO I didn't mean that...I mean your not someone I'd spy on because...well no..but...oh god...oh god...oh god..this isn't going well...” If Crystal was perhaps uncomfortably close to the little mutant Amber wasn’t , and already Crystal could see the look of concern that was growing on her face. It was lost puppy syndrome and no mistake.Though Crystal had to admit that this time, despite the unfortunate circumstances of their meeting, she herself wasn’t far behind. Especially when something vaguely resembling a coherent reason for what he had done did finally emerge
“I..I..I was trying to get into the...into the...well I was just trying to get close to the...GAH no not that..I was trying to brake into this place...arg not this place as in the dressing room, the institute...the Xavier...institute...…I..I..I..I…I..”
And in a way that said it all. How long had Crystal sat with the vague hints the internet had thrown her way before her eyes, wishing and hoping that maybe, just maybe, she had found a solution to Amber's ever growing problem? It was a loneliness she could respond to, a desperation she knew all too well and its echo in the young mutant's voice disarmed her just long enough for him to dissolve into a totally unwarranted terror and for her sister to come to his rescue. “Please…it’s not what you think I swear…don’t hurt me…” the tiny form begged assuming an almost foetal position.
Amber did what Crystal hadn’t dared to do . She reached over and scooped up the tiny figure, cradling it against her soft cheek while a look of absolute protection played about her eyes.”Crystal , hes so cute” she declared fervently.” How can we just leave him here all scared and lost? There must be something we can do to help!”
And just like that, even if the older girl had wanted to walk away, which on this occasion at least hadn’t been the case, backtracking had suddenly became impossible. “I’m sure there is” Crystal declared, reaching for her blouse and putting it on, the buttons taking all together too long for her liking ”.But maybe we should actually ask him what he wants to do. Because I don’t know about you, but as far as I’m concerned he seems perfectly able capable of expressing himself!
Even if” she added with a trace of returning humour ’half naked girls do tend to phase him a little. Which I hasten to add is the only reason he isn’t finding himself glued to the heel of my shoe at this moment in time. ”
Re: A small problem?
As if things were not bad enough, now Dan found himself plastered to a strange woman’s cheek. Her hold over him was un-negotiable. She was not holding him tight enough to cause pain, but she was holding him just tight enough to prevent any possible escape. Besides that, Crystal, the other woman seemed intent on keeping him right where she could see him. She did not appear vengeful however her wrath did not appear to be quite appeased.
Dan was not quite sure if she was speaking in jest or not, truthfully he didn’t really want to know. He was absolutely petrified, what made matters worse was the fact that it would take, at the least, another 45 minutes before he could restore himself to normal size. That meant 45 minutes of what ever the hell these two women wanted! He was helpless to stop them
“Please miss…not so tight…I’m flesh and bone and my bones break easily.”
Dan was such a nerd. Hugged against a giant girls face and all he could think about was his bones breaking. Perhaps it was like Crystal had mentioned, perhaps his bashfulness and geek-ness had really saved his life.
At least one of them seemed interested in finding out what he wanted to do. Dan had the feeling that if it were up to Amber, he would be sitting in a wire cage for the rest of his life drinking out of a water bottle and running along a squeaky wheel.
As the two were about to discover, Dan was not a bumbling moron, he spoke with intellegence, abit slightly nervous. One could tell by his vocabulary, he was not stupid.
“As I said, I was trying to sneak into the institute. They say it’s a school for the gifted; I wanted to know if my suspicions were correct; if it really is a school for mutants. As you probably have deduced by my current stature, I too am a mutant. I would however wish to impress upon you madam the innocence of our predicament.”
Dan spoke, every now and then he would get cut off by Ambers hugging. She seemed to be cuddling him to her cheek like he was a little mouse. This was annoying and caused the conversation to become quite muffled. He hoped Crystal could make out what he was saying. Perhaps this in her mind served as his punishment for sneaking into her handbag and hiding in her swimming ware?
“If at all possible would you be able to direct me to someone who can retort my query?”
Re: A small problem?
Despite what was obviously an attempt to protect him on the part of her sister, the little guy still seemed to be terrified. But then again, Crystal reasoned, if she had suddenly found herself in his position would she have been anything else? Amber may have wanted to be comforting but when you factored the whole size thing into account was that really how she came over? Even if her kind words would surely have been taken into account, actual physical fragility still must have had the upper hand. “Please miss…not so tight…I’m flesh and bone and my bones break easily.” the tiny stranger pleaded, his unexpected plight obviously not going unheeded as Amber released her grip with gasp of surprise.
Perhaps it was his newfound freedom that gave him courage, or perhaps it was a last ditch attempt, as far as he was concerned, to save his life but their hitchhiker suddenly seemed to find his tongue. “As I said I was trying to sneak into the institute.” he told them with renewed courage. They say it’s a school for the gifted; I wanted to know if my suspicions were correct; if it really is a school for mutants.”
So that was it. He had come like them to find help or perhaps sanctuary at the Institute and if his power was as out of control as her sister’s was then Crystal could understand why. Ok maybe he didn’t switch without warning from a happy teenager to a vindictive and manipulative monster but all the same, if he found suddenly himself shrinking to the size of a hamster then that brought its own set of problems.Ones he would no doubt w<ant to solve as soon as he possibly could.
As you probably have deduced by my current stature, I too am a mutant.” he told her unnecessarily before adding” I would however wish to impress upon you madam the innocence of our predicament.” If this was, as he said, an attempt to break into the school discretely then Crystal was all too inclined to believe him. After all, he could hardly have known where they were headed when he climbed into her handbag, and emerging in a locker room with two indignant and half dressed females was hardly the best way to pass unnoticed, albeit that he had not so much ‘emerged’ as been dragged out into the open. Still all in all it did seem that he was as appalled to find himself in this embarrassing situation as any of them. And that he was trying his best to get out of it with whatever dignity he could muster intact.
“If at all possible would you be able to direct me to someone who can retort my query?” He had a way of speaking that reminded her of Dr McCoy, they seemed to share the same rich vocabulary and obvious love of words. For a moment Crystal wondered if she should take her unexpected protégée to med lab and have the doctor take over from there but she quickly revised that plan. If there was one thing Hank didn’t need it was any more work and besides there were others who seemed to take charge specifically of such things as admissions. Mr Summers for example!
Yes on reflection he certainly seemed to be the best choice, he had certainly known how to smooth over Ambers arrival at the school as well as soothing any nerves the girls had felt over their unexpected arrival. She was sure he could do the same for….. Ah Now names That would be a good start.
“Yes I think we could manage that” she told him, adding with a wry smile “But first, since you have after all an intimate knowledge of my underwear, we should at least introduce ourselves, don’t you think? I’m Crystal Fallyn and this is my sister Amber. And you would be........?
