Abigail Ashcroft
Lots of editing in the bio, especially the history as this is a really old character that I was going to bring in but brought in Jennifer Demore instead. I still kept getting the urge to bring her in sooo… I guess I will! We need more non-X-men anyway! Player Details:

Personality:
Abigail is often an unwelcomed interference in many places due to her reckless behaviour. As long as she gets her job done, she doesn’t see what all the fuss is about. Over time, and constant battles to stand up for her actions and hold out against the complaints thrown at her, Abigail has learned to not care about what others think of her and is very stubborn in her ways. The Ashcroft family has always had that flare of dramatics, the need to be more then ‘average’ and to prove themselves as competent. The slight arrogance and lack of concern to her own well being when throwing herself head on into danger is actually quite the family trait. Don’t confuse this headstrong charge solely for childish antics, the need for speed and dramatic actions, Abigail is fully aware of the dangers her lifestyle leads, fully aware that each battle could be the last, but she doesn’t let thoughts such as those effect her eagerness to fight.
Often very charming when she wants to be and can be very convincing but doesn't force anyone to do anything unless they really want to. Abby may wish to have her way but that doesn’t mean she’s willing to have others suffer down the track because her way really wasn’t something they wanted or felt they could do. While young, she is not easily intimidate easily and stays calm even in tense situations, having faced danger often enough to have her responses to its effects numbed greatly. Often the young hunter feels as if there’s a cold shield around her heart, keeping herself detached and safe. Anyone who thaws that shield of ice and touches her has a chance of her suddenly shutting them out and pushing them away if she feels there’s a chance of losing them approaching.
A hidden intelligence dwells beneath the surface and can be witty, sometimes all too natural and her cocky nature slips out in any situations. Abigail is often seen as an outsider to others who feel she is only getting in their way, despite her talents, these groups include the police force amongst others such as the Initiative and similar factions. If she doesn’t work for them then they don’t want her on the streets getting into trouble or simply getting in their way, her greatest troubles comes of course from the Watchers council, but she doesn’t want to align herself with anyone, and hates the thought of just becoming one of the crowd. She values her individuality but cherishes the time at Nova Café, a place where she can put aside her night time chores and take up a seemingly normal life. All in all she is a good person but is often misjudged based on her profession and strange way of taking all in her stride while also not tolerating any insolent behaviour.
Cause this hunter problems and Abigail will be sure to return the favour. Her greatest pet peeve are things that assume just because they are stronger then the average human means they ought to dominate the populace, that doesn’t mean however that she won’t pick a fight with a normal human who is bullying others. Abby in general hates those who think they are better then others and make them suffer for it.
Likes:
~ Hunting. The freedom of getting out there, of becoming more then what most people think she can be. Abby is nothing less then what she wants, her hunts prove both to herself and to others that she is more then a helpless crippled.
~ Music. Everyone loves music to some degree, but Abby’s world of silence is pushed away whenever she has her headphones on. Knowing her world of sound consists of up to two or so meters away from her before it dwindles and fades, Abigail relies on the music she has to keep her spirits high, to remind her she isn’t completely deaf, that there is an ounce of normality in her. It also gives her a reason why she doesn’t hear people who may be talking or calling to her but she can’t see them or they’re too far away for her to read their lips.
~ Other fighters. People who take on the hunt to stop the undead or demonic creatures from feeding and using the human populace. She also feels the same way for people who take on crime fighting, even if it’s just against other humans. Either way, Abby shows respect to those who take the mantle of a hunter and has proved their skills and loyalty to the cause.
~ Being a Heroine. Alright, perhaps young Abigail has yet to obtain such a title, but it’s one she seeks, as much as Abby started this to prove to the world her abilities, a truer, more vivid sense of justice and sense of honour has filled her with the pride that she is making the world a better place, even if only to a slight degree. The realization that her actions can effect the lives of others, those she saves and those who are saved by the simple fact the dead she killed one night would have killed that person at a later point… it drives her on just as much towards greatness as her own inner needs to prove her capabilities.
Dislikes:
~ Being Deaf. Alright, so it is only partial deaf, but most of the time her hearing is useless. Abigail hated the way other people in school assumed her weak or pitied her just because of her hearing impediment. This prideful youngster refuses to wear any hearing aids or have operations, everyone made it clear that she would not experience life with the same simple freedom they had, and Abby is determined to prove them all wrong. She’s going to life, to protect life, and to experience a life so few others have had the chance to life through.
~ ‘Baddies’. With a passion in her heart, Abby takes to the streets and deals her blow to the corrupt world around her. Be it murderous vampires and rotting zombies or drug dealers and warring gangs, Abby puts herself to the test, proving that she can handle herself, that she can clean up the streets.
~ Party-poopers. Life’s hard enough, why not try to make the best of it, enjoy what you do and the way you do it, make the best out of what you have, everyone suffers, why make the suffering worse by being such a sourpuss all the time?
Mutant Powers:
Extreme Luck:
There are some people who always seem to be at the right place at the right time, always seeming to have all the luck, managing to walk the fine line of slim chances and cross it with only a few scraps and bruises. While Abby isn’t aware of her mutant abilities, they effect her life to a sever degree, helping her through situations that would be considered unlikely to succeed or near impossible to escape. This power effects her continuously, she has no control over it nor is she able to effect it’s degree if she did know of the ability she possessed. It works without her aware of what is happening, luck itself so hard to explain and describe, is the power effecting her mentally or is it effecting the world around her, perhaps a little of both, a slight sense of precognition that is linked with the ability of luck, however it works, Abigail is oblivious to it. All the huntress is aware of is that there have been a few times she considers to have been a very lucky moment for her.
Skills:
Projectile Weaponry:
From bullets to arrows, Abigail is well equipped and well trained. Her skill to hit her target is efficient, with her luck it becomes profound. Of course her own force of attack is hindered also by the talent of her opponent.
Physical Combat:
Luck can’t defeat perfection, just help her keep up with it, so the better her opponent, the less mistakes weakness to exploit, the less effective her ability to take them down. Luck can only help her so much, the stronger Abby grows, the less strain is put on her lucky shots to take down her opponents. But still she is well trained in physical combat, though her weaponry usage is still exploited here, armed with a wrist dagger and a hidden blade in her shoe.
Abigails List Weaponry: I need to say that Abby doesn’t carry ALL of these things at one time… of course she carries whatever she needs or can manage but she for example would have a hard time holding her large (and complex) bow while also wanting to use the Arc! Not going to happen easily, so she’ll have to pick and choose her arsenal before heading out for the night!
Artillery Bow:
A powerfully designed bow that can shoot arrows at high speeds over great distances. Larger and bulkier then her other weapons, Abby is seeking to get her hands on something more slender and easier to carry about but won’t switch it for anything weaker in power at this point.
The Arc Weapon:
Composed of aluminium and polycarbonate, this was created by an associate of the family who supplies Abby with most of her equipment, even if he obtains it from another source. This device utilizes the UV light in a fine beam precision, allowing the powerful beam to slice though vampires. The weapon can compact itself to one fifth its original size, allowing for easier transportation and storage.
The Electronic Pistol:
This weapon uses an electromagnet in conjuction with a traditional explosive to propel its bullets at super sonic speeds. It also contains a video camera and mini DVD recorder that keeps track of its kills. Utilizing the wireless technology it allows the user to detonate certain ammo from a distance.
The EDTA Stiletto Injector:
This is a slender knife that contains a hyprodermic syringe. This injector is used for stabbing vampires to release EDTA into the creatures body, once inject, the EDTA forces the organs of the vampire to boil and explode.
Retracting Chain Saber:
The retracting chain saber is composed of aluminium, silver, titanium and stainless steel. This weapon has a motor that releases and retracts the blade and chain. If used on vampires they will burn to ash when sliced through with this blade due to the make (unless they have a special resistance to silver and such), it can also deal dangerous blows to other opponents, and leave a nasty mark on Werewolves.
Bloop Gun:
The U.S. military created the non-lethal blood gun to precent someone from running away. It works like a traditional grenade launcher. The shells of the weapon contain a glue-like projectile in the rear and front cartridge. This is a weapon which Abby keeps with her in a holster on her belt.
Multi-throw Knife:
The milti throw knife composed of aluminium, polycarbonate and silver was thought up by Abigail and created by the family friend who is fitting her with the weaponry she needs to do her work and survive it at the same time. It’s one the weapons that Abby carries on every hunt. This weapon has a cartridge that contains several silver throwing knives that are set into the main body of the weapon which is then strapped to her arm. By a twist of her wrist (in an strong upward direction) a knife is ejected and can then be thrown. The silver in the knife causes vampires to burn to ash.
Wrist Knife:
Made for full time wear, Abby has a simplified version of her multi-throw knife. While the single blade of this wrist worn weapon is able to be detached, it has a spring which stabs it out with a similar twist of her wrist, it must manually be slid back to its hidden position. Abigail wears this lighter weapon in conjunction with her special boots at all points of the day. Usually Abby keeps her Chain saber in her small backpack or on her belt in a fitted case, but doesn’t push herself to carry more visible weapons otherwise.
Plague Arrows:
Created by the family scientist allying Abigail, these plague arrows are traditional arrows except that the tips of the arrows contain a vile able to be filled with different substances, usually a self brewed virus. The genetic virus is released when the vile at the tip of the arrow makes contact with its victim. These aluminium, glass and stainless steel arrows are what Abby uses with her archery skills instead of the normal, plain, arrow.
Time Delay Arrowhead:
This has a small power supply housed in the arrowhead that stores UV rays. There is a small timer in the mechanism that allowes the user to dial in the amount of time from when the arrowhead is cast to when it explodes. Composed of aluminium and stainless steel, it is another weapon focused for vampires or other light effected creatures.
Silver Spiked Boots:
The silver boot spikes are a stabbing and cutting weapon. A spring flips out the two-part blade from the ends of Abigail’s boot. The silver in the spikes causes vampires to burn to ash as well.
History:
At first glance people might wonder what on earth had been wrong with Abigail’s child hood to produce such a battle spirit in the girl. On the contrary nothing was wrong. In fact, it was perfect. Decent life, nice home, lovely pets, popular in school for the most part, good grades. Why is it that every super hero out to save the night is a dark broody woe bitten soul?
When living the perfect life, one is often ignorant to the others suffering around them. Abigail grew up with a week packed full of activities, from weekend camps which taught her things from swimming and horse riding to sharpshooting and archery. Spoiled and yet sensible, Abigail’s life was active, hearty, and every day a challenging adventure. From early days, Abigail Ashcroft was an action junkie, she never could get enough. But the wide spectrum of skills was often taken advantage off, not in the general way where people often may have used them to bully others, though she did use them as a form of intimidation, it was always directed towards troublemakers.
Amongst the perfect, there was a flaw, one which effected Abby at a young age, she was nearly deaf. It was a born defect, one her parents were determined to fix for their daughter the moment they discovered her handicap. It was possible to give people their hearing back, but one reason or another seemed to deny them even the chance of seeing if Abby could be like the other children, to hear sound from a distance as so many too for granted. At first sugary was discouraged due to her age, then it was unadvised due to the fact the doctors weren’t sure how effective it would even be for the problem Abigail suffered. They knew she could hear something, so it was suggested they let her grow a little more, develop a little further, see if things improve slightly or if they worsen. But as Abigail grew, little change occurred, but it didn’t effect her, still their girl did all the things which they had dreamed of her doing. She was scoring high in her archery, and sharpshooting, doing well in school, holding her own against the others who may true and make things hard because of her birth defect.
Abigail seemed more annoyed when people spoke of her hearing as if it was something that needed curing, of course she wished she could hear properly, that she didn’t have to watch their lips if they stood just too far our of her ears reach or because they spoke too quietly. But that didn’t mean she wanted people making such a fuss over it, when her parents brought up talks on testing and operation, the youngster shrugged them aside, switched topic, pushed them away. There had been a time she was willing to wear the hearing aid, and it had been great, to hear things she couldn’t usually if she was too far away or if it was too quiet. But at school those who liked to bully saw it as a sign of weakness, and even if Abby was young she still displayed a strong sense of pride and so the troublemakers knew how she must have felt to show such an obvious sign that something was wrong with her, something she tried to act so casually about. After that she stubbornly refused to wear the aid, keeping it at hand for the moments she secretly wears it in her private company but refusing to wear it in public unless there was a real need for it. She had pride but she didn’t want that to rule her life to a degree it was negatively effected by it.
The tough girl demeanour was a catalyst that kept her safe and respected throughout her later schooling years. If a friend every got a bloody nose there was hell to pay for those responsible, and being so popular usually a month didn’t go by were she was being sent to the office once or twice for ‘dealing with trouble makers’. But it showed people she wasn’t so helpless like they thought, she couldn’t hear as well, that didn’t change anything important, it didn’t take good hearing to deal a blow to someone else who was making life hard.
When Abigail was sixteen she had been with a group of girls at a club in New York. One of her friends was getting hit on from a rather attractive guy, slowly drifting away from the group as she allowed him to sweet talk her for an hour. When he asked her to go outside with him, his intentions seemingly clear to Kristin who mouthed ‘I’ll be back’ to Abby in a thrilled manner from the dance floor. Kristin had been wanting to meet a guy since the month before when she announced herself ready to get over her previous ex who had been seen cheating repeatedly. So when their friend didn’t return for almost ten minutes, most of the group hadn’t really thought much of it, figuring she was ok and just enjoying herself, some assumed she had left. But Abby was always overly protective, so since Kristin announced she’d be back, she’d know that Abby would get worried if she didn’t come back or at least text her on the phone.
Having checked to make sure the mobile hadn’t received any messages, Abigail had left the table with another friend who tagged along to keep Abby company. The two quietly made their way outside, since it was pretty obvious what had been planned if you’d come up the back of a night club after a night of flirting. The sight they saw however was far from what they could have imagined, finding the male holding a limp body against the wall was enough to get Kate, the girl accompanying Abby to call out and ask Kristin if she was ok. When her companion turned to look at them, a snarl leaving his bloodied lips as a hideous face where once a charming one had rested. The deformed features were that of a vampire, Kristin’s body more visible in his arms before he half dropped half tossed her towards the girls who both screamed from the shock of sight. Kate panicked and grabbed at the dying Kristin, while Abigail angrily charged after the man. She didn’t know who he was, what he was even, some freak pretending he was a beast from the movies perhaps, one of those mutants that people read about. Who knows, who cared, Abigail was going to do what she always did, anger taking control as she chased the creature. He was fast, too fast even, easily slipping from her pursuit.
Kristin had died that night, Kate never really got over the sight, the fear of it happening to her even effecting her later relationships, she’d never go out with her boyfriends on her own, so understandably they’d get a little frustrated and break up with her. Kristin’s parents refused to allow their other daughter to go out, Paula ended up sneaking out, no one ever knowing where she was, getting herself into relationships deeper then she was ready for just to be able to have somewhere else to spend the nights. All these other lives had been effected by the death of Kristin and the manner in which she died.
But Abigail didn’t let it get her down, Kristin died, Kristin was a friend, but Kristin wouldn’t want them to suffer in the way they were. Abigail tried to learn about the one who was responsible for the death, trying to find other deaths having be found in similar ways. It had been a shock at first, so many unexplained deaths, so many missing, the world was suffering and Abigail had never realized how terribly. Relying on her own research, Abigail worked her way into the city streets at night for a while after the death of her friend, until her parents demanded to know what she was doing. The police seemed unwilling to believe the girls that the attacker had actually been drinking the blood from Kristin, but then why couldn’t they explain where it all went? Abigail was believing more and more that perhaps what they saw was something no one would believe her if she shared her thoughts.
Of course being Abigail’s parents Emily and Chris both insisted she leave it to the police, but Abby didn’t, trying to still keep her hunts for the one who killed her friend. The police couldn’t find him, how many more would die? She knew what he looked like, if she just saw him again then she’d be able to tell the police where he was… But Abby got caught up in fights, going to one site a lot of deaths were occurring and managing to get herself into the role of the victim. Even if there were only two, they were strong men, young looking, about Abby’s age, but so strong. Every punch seemed to ware her down but they kept coming, with such a force. Emily met her first glimpse of the Initiative that night, since she was fighting the two vampires they patrol of four figured Abby was one of the local gangs who were self-proclaimed hunters. A sight into the workings of the world which was aware while most others slept or partied.
They told her to leave it to the professionals after they so easily dealt with the creatures she barely fazed. Most of what they said went out of her hearing, and some had their face covered, all dressed up in combat gear… Was there a war going on no one knew about? It had left Abby with more curiosity, more need to understand why her friend had died, what was going on, who was stopping the killers. Determination rang fierce in Abby, and her parents feared their inability to sway her off the course she was choosing. Instead of punishing her more or saying more words that Abby allowed to fall unheard on dear ears, the parents insisted she do as they say. That she was to train harder, that she would learn how to protect herself against whatever she was getting herself into.
It had taken two years for Abby to feel she was ready to really go out and tackle things herself, unaware of the power play her supreme luck was having with her skills. Another year in which Abby really layed down the law, she may have been around for four years almost by she was becoming known, if not respected, to a few. Abigail was taken in by Jerold Whitlock when she was seventeen, offered a job and a place for better training and to be around others who were talented in some way. Young woman like her that wanted to be more then a fading memory, that wanted a chance to prove themselves, that wanted a spot in the world.
Abigail works in Nova café at this point, usually during the day, her life is still chaos at night, but her family connections has allowed Abby to arm herself well, and with the support of her family in the background Abby hasn’t had to worry about going behind the backs of those who loves, unaware of the stress that could cause some people. Abigail’s parents know how dangerous it is for both them and their daughter to be doing what they are doing, but the rich and well connected family have now learned that their daughter really is making an impact on the lives of others, something they always wanted, even if it wasn’t exactly the way they planned.
