After 43 years! Yes after 43 years of service to the library; my supervisor is retiring in January! We got a sad taste of what his absence might be like. He has been out for 1 week and 2 days with Bronchitis. Everyone is running low on work to do. We are managing, though. He plans to be in on Monday. He supervises 3 professional catalogers and 3 non-professional staff of which I am one. Of the three non-professionals; I have been on staff the longest but have had no library school studies behind me. At least so far the Dept. head hasn't put me out to pasture. Andrea78745 |

Sometimes work experience is better then studies. I know many businesses require degrees etc but then what good is that if you don't have experience. I'd take experience over paper knowledge anyday

Re: After 43 years! For some tasks a little library school is good but on the whole experience is better but that may not be what the library values these days. Sad but true. Andrea78745 |
