We had a discussion about this going at the old board, if I recall the most popular was a combination "custom rank on request" system with default ranks based on medival titles.

Here are some of the more popular options:

OPTION 1
New Visitor 1-10
Regular Visitor 11-20
Patron 21-30
Tavern Staff Mods
Tavern Management Admins

OPTION 2
1-25: Peasant
25-50: Squire
51-100: Knight
101-200: Lord
201-400: Duke
400- : King

OPTION 3
1-25: Magician
25-50: Illusionist
51-100: Mage
101-200: Sorceror
201-400: Wizard
400- : Grand Wizard

OPTION 4
Fleet Admiral
Admiral
Vice Admiral
Rear Admiral (upper half)
Rear Admiral (lower half)
Captain
Commander
Lieutenant Commander
Lieutenant
Lieutenant J. G.
Ensign

There were lots more military versions, but the above seems the most straightforward.

How about no ranking system. How about we choose our own ranks. I think that is the only way.

As I said, this would be a default ranking system. We agreed on the old board that anyone who wanted a custom rank could have one.

We put in a default ranking system, and then if someone chooses to have a personalised rank we can alter it?

Yes, that's basically what we did on the old board.

We had ranks Newbie, Poster, Regular Poster and Patron, IIRC...
Defiant: You have admin access to the old bb if you want to check anything out there.

I think that favourite ranking systems should be voted in.... And then one voted for by each user who wishes to participate and then count the votes. This could cause hassle but just a suggestion.

I quite like the idea of the rank of Sorcerer. It goes with my 'Mystical' image. :p

We don't seem to be getting anywhere in actually implementing a ranking system, so I'm just going to implement option 2 above (chosen at random). I can always put it back if someone objects. :)
