Ardo the Red
Information
Screen Name(s): Korithan

Contact Information: purplemonkeydishwasher2002@hotmail.com

Character
Character's Name:
-Ardo the Red among men
-Aka3oðeranai (Ah-kha-gh-o-th-eh-rah-n-eye) in Valarin. His true name means “He who serves the smith (Aulë) wisely”
-Ñólaránu (Ng-o-lah-ra-noo) in First Age Quenya
-Nólaránu (meaning “Learned wanderer”) among the Calaquendi for his true Valarin name is unpronounceable in Quenya. Nólaránu however is derived from the First Age Quenya name.
-He is Saelrandír (“Wanderer with wisdom”) among the Sindar.

Age: Immortal, was created by Eru before the creation of the universe. He travelled from Aman to Middle Earth in III 1020

Race: Ainu(r)- Maia(r) of Aulë- Istar(i)

Gender: Male

Description: Like most of the Istari Ardo appeared in Middle Earth as an elderly man that seemed to age slowly. Ardo arrived in Middle Earth with bright red hair but now has long white hair and a short white, wiry beard but traces of red can clearly be seen in the roots of his hair. He has thick, bushy eyebrows and long eyelashes that make it look as if he is half asleep even if he is ready and alert. He stands at 6'2" and although he is physically thin he is aided by his magical abilities. He has broad shoulders, blue eyes and a face distinguished with wrinkles on his forehead and around his eyes and mouth. He gives off an impression of power that causes him to be rarely underestimated despite his elderly status. Having been granted a body that was not eternal by Eru Iluvatar he ages slowly but may be killed.

Ardo the Red earned his name as he, like the other Istari, dresses mainly in a block colour. Ardo dresses in brown pants and a light brown tunic, usually covered by mail. His cloak however is what earned him his name in Middle Earth, deep red on the outside but light brown on the inside. He carries with him his staff shaped like a bo staff; long, thin and cylindrical. Attached to his belt is a plain scabbard which holds his sword Alarcqualmë. Also held in this belt is a long-knife with a jewel-encrusted hilt, the only precious item in Ardo’s possession.

Personality: Originally being a Maia of Aulë, Ardo tends to be industrious and hardworking. He is an eager craftsman, skilful in the arts of pottery, metalwork and jewellery. Being one of the Maia of Aulë who was NOT seduced to the dark side by Melkor, Ardo tends not to be jealous or possessive like his former master. He is able to create something and let it go and rarely lusts over the treasures of others. He is humble and kindly and has a great love for the earth. Like the Istari he is wise and has a thirst for knowledge.

Possessions:
-His staff which aids as a focal point for his magic
-A powerful sword, crafted as if by Aulë himself. It is aptly named Alarcqualmë which in Quenya means “Swift Death”
-A long-knife engraved with runes of Istari origins
-A chain mail vest, each link engraved with protective runes

History: Ardo first awoke in the Timeless Halls of Eru and took part in the Ainulindalë. When the Valar and Maiar entered Eä Ardo entered as a Maia of Aulë and aided him throughout the Ages of the Lamps, Ages of the Trees and first two Ages of the Sun. He also worked alongside such famous Maiar as Curumo (Saruman) and Sauron (for a brief period). During this time he was known by his real name Nólaránu due to the fact that he would often forget his duties and wander Aman with a party of Teleri telling them of the nature of Eä. In III 1000 the Istari were selected and travelled to Middle Earth to aid the Free Peoples. When Radagast, Saruman, Alatar and Pallando failed to do this the Valar sent more Maia to Middle Earth and Nólaránu was one of them.

Nólaránu travelled the Straight Road toward the east and eventually emerged in the sphere of this world. He arrived in the Grey Havens almost unnoticed and passed through Lindon, over the Blue Mountains, through Eriador and over the Misty Mountains. In these travels he received the name Ardo the Red from men and the name Saelrandír from the elves, this being the Sindar version of his Quenya name. He lingered for a time in the Fangorn Forest, drawn near to the familiar power of Saruman. He discovered that he was less than welcome near Isengard, apparently Saruman had the same dislike for Ardo that he had for Radagast. He was then attracted by the glory of Galadriel and Celebor and stayed in Lorien for a time. He travelled to Greenwood the Great and met with his colleague Radagast. He had at first intended to fulfil the duties set by the Valar but these travels showed him the beauty of Middle Earth and he strayed from his task. Knowing that now the Valar would probably forbid his return to Aman he settled for a time deep in the caverns of the Misty Mountains drawn there by his love of the earth and the power of the dormant Balrog, Durin’s Bane.
However the call of the adventure was too strong so Ardo eventually left his caverns and set forth into the world once more. His journeys though, seem somewhat predictable as he is drawn to the beauty and great powers of the world.

Sample RP: Ardo walked through the caverns of the Misty Mountains running his hand along the cavern walls feeling the power of the rock leap out at him. He reminisced about his younger days in the West, forging wonders for his master. He sighed as he remembered the entranced looks upon the Maiar faces that beheld his works. But now this was his home, Middle Earth, for he could never return to Aman; he had forsaken his Istari duties.

As he walked he watched the little sphere of light on the tip of his staff wax and wane until he renewed its glow with a sharp jolt of power. Suddenly he felt a familiar tug, something of power deep within the mountains. The dwarves of Moria were mining ever deeper into the earth, and ever closer towards the source of this power. He felt the weak tug every few years, the source of the power was probably stirring. Meanwhile the dwarves toiled unaware of what they were doing, the power was currently weak though and would probably pose no threat to them, for now.
