Assualt on the Warehouse: Continued from Midnight at Nova.
It had not even been a minute since Ben had left the Nova Cafe. He had ran full out to get here to give himself a few minutes to consider this attack. The warehouse looked nearly abandoned, all of the windows boarded up with a layer of dust and cobweb covering everything. The only light came from the moon and a few street lamps, and most of the street lamps were broken. The only sounds were those of the hustle and bustle of New Yorks noght life, and precious little of it came near this building.
It must be because of human instinct. People don't like to admit that they listen to such things anymore, but instincts can often be more reliable than logic if something is around that can kill you.
Ben was on the roof of an adjacent building, rinning all he knew about these creatures through his mind again, seeing if he could come up with any new strategy to fight them with. There apperance was similar to that of a tall human like lizard without a tail. Some exceptions to this were the creatures eyes and mouth. There eyes were more insectoid, looking fragmented and cut like a gemstone. There mouths were similar to a lizard's, but they had a set of insect like mandibles protuding from the inside of there jaws. Ben knew that enough force could hurt them if they were hit by fists or feet, and he also knew that it took a massive penetrating wound to hurt them. They were stonger and more durable than human. It made the best strategy in hand to hand combat to target their joints.
Odds were this would be the tactic that Ben would use to fight these creatures since unarmed and close quarters battle was his forte of expertise. Time to get ready for this.
Ben took out a plain black kevlar bodysuit from his backpack and quickly changed into it. This bodysuit was a few generations more advanced than that available to most military groups. A nice advantage of being friends with the head of one of the largest technological companies on earth.Ben also took out a tactical belt holding a knife, canteen, a corpseman medical kit, and his mother's .45 pistol. It also had a lot of containers not so easily identified.
There was only one item left in his pack. This was one of the most unique weapons on earth, and it was truely special to Ben since his father had originally wielded it. He reached his hand in the bag and pulled out a cirular shield, about 2 1/2 feet across designed with a white circular stripe and a white star in the center. the background of this shield had changed from blue to black, and Ben prefered this color scheme better.
Let's see, points of entry. Best bet would be to infiltrate through the roof, see what all sentries could be removed before they even know anything is wrong. Ben stayed crouched on the roof, waiting for Abby to see what weapons she had before committing himself to a particular course of action. He hated putting somebody else in danger like this, but even with Ben's peak human abilities, sheer numbers could keep him from eliminating this whole tribe of monsters.
This left Ben in a strange position. He was used to shouldering all of the responsibility instead of having people help him. In a way it helped, but the thought of Abby getting hurt while aiding him brought an unusall sense of fear to Ben's heart and mind. He had long ago gotten over fear for himself, but worrying about others was something that came to easily to Ben. Some of it came from his sense of responsibility, most of the rest was ingrained in his being by his parents. Ben was starting to wonder if he should have waited for some of his allies to be in town since he knew the extent of their capabilities. Heck, some of them could have taken care of these monsters on their own without help.
But unlike them, Ben didn't have an advanced suit of armor with energy weapons, the power of an ancient deity, or matery of the most scientific advancements. Instead, he just had his own abilities and hard won skill.
Ben wondered if his father had worried so much about those who went into battle with him considering the power that they wielded.
Re: Assualt on the Warehouse: Continued from Midnight at Nov
Sorry for the delay!
The red and black motor bike made easy work of the light traffic as Abigail weaved through the roads, stopping a block from the warehouse and setting the security features as she rolled it into a secure location out of sight. The ginger haired fighter spat out a gum she was chewing and sent it flying into an open dumpster, which she quietly closed and heaved herself up onto the lid. Weighing more with the weight in her backpack, Abby still managed to pull herself up onto the roof of the rundown building the dumpster was pushed against, quietly creep low across the rooftop. The much loved headphones safely tucked away down her collar while she wasn’t using them, artillery bow attached to her back, snuggle against her backpack which also held the Arc and a few other goodies she hand on hand, hopefully it was enough, and Jerold already offered to send in reinforcements after he found Abby taking more then what she usually carried. The Arc and Artillery bow were not two things she tended to carry together. Aside from being over kill it was too much room, after all, with the bow she also needed her arrows which took up enough room on their own, and too many bulky items just slowed her down and interfered with her carrying a more varied arsenal.
Carefully Abby set up her bow, leaving it in a selected location on one of the rooms, just behind a wall, probably an attic or something, there were no windows so that proved to be good shelter as well as leaving no risk of anyone inside getting hurt if it had been a room. One of Abby’s friends lived in a furnished well made attic so Abby didn’t take anything for granted when fights were concerned. Sure this wasn’t really a house a family would be renting, but it could be an old shack some homeless people may have turned into a home, or was a storage facility of some kind, people tend to be very protective over their personal property and Abby was getting used to being yelled at for damages incurred during a fight, who cares if lives were saved, they lost precious money, and that’s what matters. Idiots.
A few tidbits were removed from the bag, her arrows placed aside the bow, then the Arc was removed, still compacted but allowing her to just dump the bag with what remained for Ben to shuffle through to his hearts content. There was some delayed info that Abby had managed to gather though, even if it had been sought earlier it hadn’t arrived until she saw the envelope on her bike seat. Now with a lighter load, Abby moved to another roof, catching sight of Ben’s shadowed figure and quietly heading towards him. Gently Abigail placed the black backpack down beside him, knelling on the room next to Ben.
"Never took you for a moonlight stroller as well, good to know the romance never dies." Didn’t have the kick it needed since Abby had said she’d meet him here, but wasn’t too good with new people when on a stake out, she had more then one run in with people who doubted her abilities and let the job suffering because of their ignorance, or worse, their arrogance. "Got some toys for you, so you can’t say Santa wasn’t generous this year." There was a gun in a holster on Abby’s waist to the right side, a personal favorite of two where guns were concerned, this being the Bloop Gun, while the other was the Electronic Pistal. While one was non-lethal the latter packed a powerful enough punch but also was a piece of technology that had more then just a use as a weapon. There were a set in the bag for Ben if he wished, but Abby would get to the different goodies after she had a word with him about what she found out.
"What you mentioned earlier today, about mutants being taken…" Abby removed a folder from the bag, opening it to reveal a collection of photos and papers, obviously this was a report of some kind. "This is what is known to all things freaky as the Black Market. It’s located in the heart of Harmony market, Harmony itself is like some massive collection of abnormal species, and I’m not referring to anything remotely human here. Not all are bad, but what is definitely hangs out here." Abby placed the photos down on the roof, spreading them out for Ben to see… the pictures showing youngsters anywhere between 14 and 19 all trapped within decent sized cages, all on display. Though it wasn’t possible to tell by the photos, the mutants were all divided into types, fire abilities, flying abilities, healing abilities…The all looked underfed, one photo was of three older teens, two boys and a girl, one of the two boys looked wretched, his legs badly damaged after a car crash forced him to rely on crutches. A blonde boy, thinner then most, hinting to a much longer incarceration then all the others. The other boy, brown haired, features strangely similar to the girl with them, an observant eye able to tell the possible relation of the two siblings, no more then a year separating them. He looked panicked, claustrophobia causing all possible sense of calm to flee as they were put on show, and the girl, she was one of the few faces who still had the strength to be both angry and defiant. Everyone had a story, all looked scared or angry, all seemed like nothing more then caged pets being put on display for the gathered public.
"I think you’re a little late for the party, but someone else was on time, turns out it was an auction, and I think someone in these cages were sorely missed, a group of party crashers arrived and got the mutants out of there. We know they’re mutants because it says here that some displayed strange abilities." Abigail finished there, her hand reaching into the back pack and pulling out her electronic pistol, one of two in there, inside were also two small flat screen palm sized panels, both of which Abby activated.
"Tell me when you’re ready for me to explain how to use these things, then you can pick and choose whatever tickles your fancy." From classics such as steel knuckles, knives, padded gloves with short knuckle blades right up to high tech modern things such as the electronic pistol and the Stiletto Injector or common things such as the grenades, though these ones were specially designed with different effects. Blinding, chocking, cluster bomb effect, delayed explosion, Abby tried to stick with the less damaging ones since they’d come back to haunt her after the fight was over and people cried out to sue.
Re: Assualt on the Warehouse: Continued from Midnight at Nov
Ben first noticed the weight of the bag Abby set down. Definitely has some hardware in there. Abby's playful comment about Santa confimed Ben's suspision.
Listening to Abby recount the story of Harmony market and some mutants saving others of their kind, Ben felt his blood start to boil. He took the photos and asked Do you have a description of the adult mutants who rescued the young ones? Ben was trying to place which main faction of mutants these auction crashers belonged to. He had a suspision which would be confirmed if any of the rescuers were a big bouncing blue furred guy or a short guy with metal claws. Might be worth it to stop by their headquarters and introduce myself since none of them know me. Odds are that anyone there who had met my Dad could smell the similarities. I know old Jim could, and odds are that Hank could as well since he served on the same team as Dad once.
Ben was slightly worried that it could have been Brotherhood instead, and such a change of tactics would indicate that the Brotherhood was getting smart in its recruitment. Find the most abused of mutants, probably with some fairly substaintial powers since all of the restaints they had on them, and convince them that the Brotherhood could offer them sanctuary from everything else. It had been a while since the Brotherhood was a large enough threat to take seriously on a national scale, but they could do some substaintial damage on the local scene. Ben also knew that there were probably some of the original members still in the Brotherhood, and he remembered his father's stories about how dangerous those core members could be far to well to underestimate them.
Ben also started looking through the weapons Abby brought with her, noticing that almost all of them were customized or homemade jobs. Wonder what she'll say when she gets a look at how low tech my favorite weapon is. Ben glanced over at where he had laid his shield out of sight as he thought this, thinking that he definitely was on the low tech end of this operation. If nothing else, he needed to know how to operate these weapons before he thought about using them. Ben tought that he could work out there operation on his own, but it never hurt to be shown a weapon's operation by an experienced user of the weapon. A small smile was on Ben's lips as he said in a playful voice I would prefer to see how the more high tech weapons work. No sense in acting all macho and trying to convince everyone I know how to work a weapon that I've never seen before. Though you can't tell anyone, it might hurt my masculinity.
Re: Assualt on the Warehouse: Continued from Midnight at Nov
It wasn’t just adult mutants, Abby saw a few youngsters in the photos taken of the rescuers. But as for who they were that had been just rumors at best. Though Abby pointed to the photo which had two boys and a girl, all late teens and one of the boys baring crutches which lay discarded beside him in the cage.
"The two brown heads here, and possibly the blonde boy too, they seemed to be the main target of the rescue," Abby produced another photo, one of a young woman who was probably 19 or 20, her body covered in blue fur with burning yellow eyes, her hands and feet were deformed, three digits and two toes. The indigo mutant also bore an arrow headed tail, easily recognizable as a relative of Kurt Wagner if anyone had ever met the religious ‘demonic elf’ like mutant. "The girl seemed to go willingly with the group but at some point the brown haired boy fought back, caused a scene apparently and the report says he attacked his cell partner, this guy with the crutches, stabbed him in the stomach with metallic blades from his knuckles." Nightcrawlers daughter was trying to guide the drugged and disorientated son of Wolverine into one of the vans in the photo, bright blue eyes seemed to gleam and it was obvious he was anything but panicked.
"And a quick run down on the toys here," Abby pulled out two guns, holding up the non-lethal one first as she explained. "Bloop gun, it works like a traditional grenade launcher. The shells of this kid contain a glue-like projectile in the rear and front cartridge, really gets people to stop and listen when they’re pinned with this stuff." With that said it was placed down and Abby showed Ben the other weapon, a little thicker built then the common hand gun, sleek and silver and obviously all weapons were designed by someone who had a craftsman’s eye. "And this is an Electronic pistol, this weapon uses an electromagnet in combination with a traditional explosive to propel its bullets at, as any geek would proudly say, ‘super sonic speeds’. It also contains a video camera and mini DVD recorder that keeps track of its kills, who’s needs video cameras in New York when instead you can have one of these?" Abby smilled playfully but tilted the gun slightly to show a switch which would be easily reachable by the thumb. "With the wireless technology we can detonate certain ammo from a distance, which I happen to also have inside the bag are ammo which have an image of the weapon they belong to one the sides of either the clips or shell casings. I packed more of the common ammo since in this situation it didn’t seem as if you’d need to be overly dramatic." That gun was also put aside and Abby pulled out a belt which housed a collection of what appeared to be throwing knives. "Stiletto Injectors, these nifty little babes contain hypodermic syringe’s that’ll definitely disorientate whoever gets stabbed, as long as they don’t have a super effected healing factor, I hate those." A hand opened the bag a little more for Ben to look inside, nudging aside some items that looked easily identifiable as well designed and good quality hand grenades of some kind. "Here you got your traditional boom toys, two cluster bombs, tear gas, two or three smoke screens, hmm, I seem to have chucked in an ultra light but don’t know if that’d be handy against these things. Anyway, my guy makes sure to write names on everything so I know what I’m using when I’m in a hurry, I’m sure you’ll find your way around the collection in there." One of the hand held panels Abby removed earlier was offered over to Ben, her thumb pressing one of the buttons and turning it on to reveal an image slowly coming into view. Abby picked up her Electronic gun and aimed it over towards the ware house, which showed the image move as well until it settled on the ware house her gun was aimed at.
"It records everything the weapon sees and sends it to these portable device which in turn sends it off to be recorded elsewhere, I carry the image your gun sees and you carry what mine sees, that way we can keep an eye on each other even if we’re separated," A finger motioned towards one of the few flat buttons on the device which had ‘A’ on it, "Audio, it uses a lot of memory and we get a lot of interference for some reason, especially under gunfire where audio cuts out, that’s being fixed but in the mean time if you want audio you have to press and hold this button down," A thumb pointed over her shoulder towards where she had come from a moment after she finished speaking, "Now I’m going to go back that way, I’ve set up my artillery bow and I can cover you while you head to the door and if it’s all clear I’ll hop on down and we can start this party," Usually Abby had a best which she wore over her clothes, stylish as always but very sturdy to offer decent protection against projectiles, only that was back at home being tweaked up a little after her last encounter. Abby picked up her headphones from where they hang and slipped them into her ears, patting her little MP3 player which sat snuggled half hidden on her hip. "Your audio will come through here for me, you’ll hear any audio I send via the screen, anything else?" Abby was always strangely more alert when her music was on, some people she’s fought with have insisted she remove them, but it didn’t help her since the ungodly silence just unnerved her more then it would if there were a little sound, besides music always gave her an adrenalin boost so it had more benefits and either way someone could sneak up on her, she just never felt the need to explain her handicap to everyone who crosses her path. For now she kept her music off, learning that it was better to turn it on when she was alone and people didn’t have to know or think about what she was doing until she was already doing it and telling her off seemed improper at the time while they were all fighting. Especially if she was handling herself regardless of the distraction.
Re: Assualt on the Warehouse: Continued from Midnight at Nov
Ben was wiling to wager a fat wad of bills that he knew who the indigo girl with the tail was related to, and metal claws sort of told him who the brown haired kid would share some genes with. I really need to visit that place, especially considering that the only time I've really ever seen any of the X-Men was at my Dad's funeral.
An artillery bow? My godfather would love you for that reason alone. Well, he would probably challenge you to an archery contest just to prove that he still has it. If I'd known you preferred a bow, I would have gotten one of his for you to try. Ben didn't exactly know the velocity of an artillery bow, but he knew that Clint's fovorite type of longbow was formed from speciall composites which could throw an arrow at velocities greater than any handgun.
Ben looked over the weapons, selecting the electronic gun for the advantages in communication it offered, a few non leathal grenades, and the stilleto injectors. The rest of the traditional weapons he either had a version of or just prefered not to use it.
So you are going to play sniper on anyone directly inside? Sounds good to me. Just be sure to leave a few standing so I can play a little. Ben was slightly worried about Abby's reaction to his favored hand to hand weapon. Might as well get it over with. He pulled out his shield from behind some rubble. It was a simple circular design, 2 1/2 feet across. It had a white five pointed star in the center. It had a few circular bands around it, alternating red and black. The black bands used to be blue, but despite a little color change from blue bands to black after being dropped into a vat of molten steel it was still recognizable to anyone who knew much about superheros. Ben had the usuall feelings when he saw it. On one hand, Ben was glad to have such a unique weapon as his own. On the other hand, Ben was sad when he thought of how the only reason he had it was because his father had died and Ben had inherited it. Having this shield and accepting the responsibility that came with it was a hard burden to live up to, but when you were the son of Captain America, having heavy burdens on your shoulders came naturally.
Ben settled his shield on his arm, and calmly said with a broad smile on his face I'm all set, let's start this party.
Re: Assualt on the Warehouse: Continued from Midnight at Nov"An artillery bow? My godfather would love you for that reason alone. Well, he would probably challenge you to an archery contest just to prove that he still has it. If I'd known you preferred a bow, I would have gotten one of his for you to try." A smile beamed on Abby's feature since she didn't know anyone else who favored the artillery bow, and if someone would be willing to compete against her then that'd be all the more fun. The thought was nice and boosted her a little, watching as Ben removed what he wanted and left what wasn't needed.
"So you are going to play sniper on anyone directly inside? Sounds good to me. Just be sure to leave a few standing so I can play a little." A wicked grin came in reply to his comment, Only because you asked so nicely, Abby mused inwardly to herself. The huntress was summing up her own arsenal, only really able to stick with her bloop gun and electric pistol considering she was carrying both her artillery bow and her Arc. Though maybe she could stash a few stilleto injectors at least, for emergencies and all.
To Abby's surprise, at least mildly anyway, Ben brandished a shield and equipped it upon his arms, ready and eager to go by the looks of his expression. But it was the design that drew more attention, being american it made the familiarity with Captian America hard to miss. Looks like we got ourselves a fan. She thought lightheartedly, not for a moment taking it as being the legendary shield itself. At least he chose his heros well.
"I'm all set, let's start this party." Abby offered another easy going grin and picked up her bag, which was still housing her compacted Arc. There was no way she'd manage carrying this around, so it'd have to remain staashed up here, hopefully they won't be charging from the place like mad dogs so she could pick it up, not that what was in there couldn't be collected again, she just didn't like leaving her things for any odd soul to find.
"After you, I'll sniper until you get to the doors then follow you in once the coast is clear, try and stay near the windows so I can get a shot in if you get into a fight." Abby gave a teasing salute with just two of her fingers, her slender form then gracefully turning about and slinking off to where she had left her bow.
Re: Assualt on the Warehouse: Continued from Midnight at Nov
The thought that somebody would be covering him made Ben feel pretty good. Abby's choice of weapon might seem fairly low tech considering that it was basically a bow, but Ben had seen the sort of damage a skilled marksman, or markswoman in this case, could do with a bow. It should keep any nasty customers in the alley from slowing him down much.
Instead of taking the traditional approach of climbing down the fire escape ladder, Ben opted to simply step off the edge of a four story building. Maybe I should have warned Abby first, or at least made sure she wasn't looking before I did this. All well, odds are she will figure out there is something strange about me before the night is over. In any case, free falling is a rush. Ben landed from the free fall on the balls of his feet, bending his legs slightly to absorb the shock of the landing.
Rising to his full heigth, Ben started walking towards the front door of the warehouse, purposefully walking over the manhole cover. He felt it tremble slightly, and thought Here it comes.
Like he expected, the manhole cover was thrown up into the air, and a monstrosity from a nightmare rose up underneath it. It was a little over seven feet tall, with the normal apperance of these monsters. The creature apparently thought that the manhole cover would incapacitate Ben, or at least slow him down. It was a good tactic, since surprise would normally render the intended prey to shocked to fight back. Of course, most prey wouldn't have staked out the place for a while and seen the lid lift up every once in a while so the monster could get a look around.
What the monster didn't count on was the fact that Ben had used the thrown cover as a springboard, jumping at a nearby wall, flipping in midair as he headed towards it, and jumped from the wall before gravity could drag him back to the ground straight back at this creature. The first inkling that its attack didn't work came in the form of a black combat boot filling the monster's vision, knocking it away from the sewer entrance and away from any cover. There's one to whet Abby's appetite. Now to get the door open before any of his friends realize something's wrong.
Ben hoped that Abby wasn't unnerved by his brief display of agility. Abby already knew that he was strong, but he knew that it was unnerving to see someone just a little stronger, faster, and more agile than any normal human but not really superhuman. And Ben knew that he looked a lot more like a brawler than a gymnast or acrobat.
Looking at the closed doors about ten yards in front of him, Ben thought Might as well drive straight down there throats. Ben started running all out, lowering his right shoulder and putting his shield between him and the door. He could feel the adrenaline running through his veins, could feel the steady beat of his heart. He felt alive not worrying about his country and his friends, not concerning himself with the long term effects of his country's policies and politics. Just living in the moment, feeling the uncertainty of surviving to the next day. It felt great.
Ben hit the door hard, literally taking part of the frame with it. he felt one of these creatures clawing on the other side of the door, trying to crawl around it. Two of them had been standing beside the door, and both f them took a step into the open to stare at the strange sight of one guy committig what looked like to them a suicide assualt. That's right guys, Ben though as he ducked a claw swipe from his unwitting passenger, Stay right there in the open like good little targets.
That was all the thought that Ben could give to the idiots at the door, since his not so little friend had managed to finally get out from behind the ruined door Ben had pushed through. The creature started swinging with wide armed swings, trying to keep Ben at a distance. Ben ducked the scaled monster's left hand swing, and put his shield directly in line with it's follow up right hand swipe. It's claws broke off upon impact, and it attempted to let out a cry of rage. Attempted, since by the time it sucked in enough air, Ben had managed to hit it with an overhand left jab to it's throat, cutting off it's attempt to yell.
As it fell kneelling to the ground holding its throat while its insect like mandibles twitched feebly, Ben thought This thing really is tough. That jab would have broken the neck of a human. It really didn't matter, since Ben grabbed it's head and snapped its neck before the monster could recover. It hadn't taken ten seconds to take out Ben's unwilling sparring partner, and a lot of that had been setting up the monster for the final blow. Ben turned to the matching set of monsters standing in the doorway, and realized that they needed to stay in place a second or two longer for Abby to get a good shot at them. He simply took a few steps towards them and asked Which one of you wants to go next?Edited by: Hank at: 9/29/05 2:23 am
Re: Assualt on the Warehouse: Continued from Midnight at Nov
Could Abby honestly saw she’s never seen anything like that before? Not really, but it still surprised her for a moment as she watched Ben. Already reloading from Well…at least he was apparently as insane as she was when it came to crashing parties, that was always a plus. Great. Abby thought while aiming her bow hurriedly, Daydreaming on the job while he’s sweet talking with the Scaleys. Actually Ben was constantly in the line, even if the arrow would hit the creature first there was always a chance it would pierce directly through the scaled entity and stab into Ben as well, always a risk when using high powered weapons. One briefly shifted its weight to the side enough so that Abby had a clear shot of his chest while it wasn’t aligned with Ben’s own body. The arrow always appeared to hit its mark but a second after Abby releases it, although unlike fragile creatures such as humans, the arrow didn’t clear right through the creature, striking hard enough to pierce the heart but not enough to manage on through to the break the skin on the other side of where it entered.
Despite the surprise Abby reloaded and swiftly took down the other creature, fully aware Ben seemed able to handle himself, but if she could take them out with little effort and save him the energy, why not?
"Three kills. Not a bad start." The archer mused to herself as she inched closer to the roofs edge, peering down and cheerfully deciding she didn’t want to test her physical limits. A look up showed the prowling outline of another passing a window. Abby raised the bow, aiming the arrows as it passed by another window, but keeping the aim moving with the guessed pace it was taking, releasing the arrow so that it could pierce through the next panel of glass, the window not even fully shattering due to the speed impact. "That makes four." A few more minutes passed, like hours as far as Abby was concerned at this point, her hand pressing the small device so that her com-line opened for Ben to hear.
"Watch out for your left side," She warned quietly, figuring if one came from the right then there was undoubtedly one off to the left side as well, "I’ll just come and mosey on down. Give me three minutes." The huntress learned a while ago that just vanishing off on her own while people figured she was still there watching her back was never something that ended well, right now she needed time to climb down and she couldn’t make her way there and keep excellent watch at the same time. Now was the tricky part, rotating between Artillery bow, Arc and her pistol, for now she just took the easy road and readied her pistol after placing her bow on her back, the Arc clipped in now at her lower back a little to her right side.
It was impossible not to have a smooth rhythm to her steps, Abby now had her music playing, the beats strong in her ears as the fast paced songs made her feel even more alive then the thrill of adrenalin rushing in her system.
Re: Assualt on the Warehouse: Continued from Midnight at Nov
Ben had been more than a little nervous about standing right in front of the creatures while waiting for Abby to fire. Note to self: next time you team up with an unkown archer, take the time to check out how good their aim is before the fight. Ben didn't think he needed to worry, since he kept his shield in front of his torso, and when adamantium blades couldn't even scratch the shield surface he doubted any arrow could. But Ben was worried if Abby decided to go for head shots.
As the arrows hit both monsters perfectly, Ben saw that he didn't need to worry. He saw a monster above on his right fall over some inside railing from Abby's arrows, and he heard her warning about a monster on the right over his borrowed com unit. Taking a side long glance to the right, Ben saw the creature sneaking nearer to him. Thanks Abby. See you in a few minutes.
Instead of waiting for this monster to get to him, Ben simply hurled his shield at the wall behind the monster. the force of his throw reduced the shape of his shield into a multicolored blur. It hit the wall behind the monster, and rebounded with no loss of momentum right into the back of the creatures skull, knocking the thing down in front of Ben. Before the creature could reoreint itself, Ben took a military issue blade from his thigh and punged it into the thing's skull, twisting it around to make sure that its brain was scrambled.
His shield had rebounded off of the other wall, and Ben twirled around with the grace of a gymnast or dancer, and extended his arm just in time to catch it. He saw another creature start running for the basement, but Ben stayed where he was. All of these creatures opt for suicide tactics except one? Why do I smell a trap?
Ben saw Abby approach the door, and asked Do you think we made a good impression on these nice neighbors? For some odd reason they don't seem to want to visit. Awfully rude of them, not answering the door and trying to kill their guests. Edited by: Hank at: 10/3/05 1:18 am
Re: Assualt on the Warehouse: Continued from Midnight at Nov
While still holding the pistol Abby folded her arms, music hard to miss as the headphones in her ears were now close in Ben's own hearing rang but still the young woman wasn't silly enough to have them blaring, only if you stood next to her in responable silence could you hear the music. And to be honest the fighter only caught the last sentence, catching just a few vague words that she made out as being nice neighbors and impressions..When she was closer her eyes tried not to so obviously focus on Ben's lips while he talked but it was hard standing in front of someone without them eventually noticing the habit at some point down the track.
"You'd be amazed how often I have that effect on my neighbors." The huntress teased with a vague shaking of her head. Toned femanine arms unfolded and her thumb flicked on the safety latch for her pistol before she slid it into her holster, unhooking her compacted Arc and giving a flick of her wrist to have it automatically uncoil to its full expanse. At first glance someone could be forgive for assuming it was another type of bow by the shape, but it lacked any string and Abby's hands held onto the curved part of the weapon.
"Which is odd, because I've always shared my toys around at their parties." Her hands seemed to twist the grip hold she had on the weapon and a moment later a fine blue beam appeared between the two tips, a faint glow in the dark brought on by the light. "After you," Abby motioned with one of her hands before placing it back on the Arc, not wanting to get in front considering she had a good chance of switching to her pistol if they weren't pounced on from no where and she got a long distance shot. But Abby preferred to have her Arc handy after seeing the damage those things could take, even if Ben made it easy Abby knew how her arrows usually effected creatures and that told her what sort of punch they could take.

"Which is odd, because I've always shared my toys around at there parties. After you."
Ben had to laugh a little at that statement. He looked at the strange weapon Abby had pulled out, and assumed that it worked like a blade. Stop gawking like a rookie. You've seen repulsor blasts and trick arrows. Hell, you have a viking deity that insists you call him uncle. It isn't like you've never seen a lazer sword before. He braced his shield again and headed for the doorway that the one surviving creature had ran through. It led down into a basement, and it was the only way Ben knew to get in or out.
Strange, most people like it when such a giver as yourself shows up. Ben took a small mirror from his belt, staying at the side of the door while examining the reflection. He saw a few sets of eyes down at the bottom of the stairs, glowing in distinct reds and violets. the doorway was obviously designed for storage, since it was ten feet wide. Seeing that Abby was several feet away, Ben activated the com unit so the monsters wouldn't here his intel. Looks like there are about four of them at the foot of the stairs. I'm going to see if I can cinvince them to come up the stairs, since only two at a time can fit.
Ben thought that it was awfully nice of them to set themselves in a natural bottleneck. It allowed only a few at a time to come at him and Abby, thus eliminating the monsters numerical supremacy. The only problem was getting the creatures to start up the stairs. Ben took another look in his mirror, thought about the angles, slipped his head around the corner to take a peek, and saw one of the creatures with its head against a concrete wall. That's nice and cooperative of him. Ben decided that these four needed an incintive to come after them, so he hurled his shield stright down the stairway. He angled it towards the floor, where it bounced up and craked the jaws of one monster, making it bite part of its tounge off. The shield rebounded off the roof, and started bouncing back towards Ben and Abby off the walls. Ben calmly reached out and snagged the shield, while the hurt monster led one of its friends in a charge.
Ben stood calmly and slid out one of the stilleto injectors he had borrowed from Abby. When the creature got within range, it swung a left hand blow at Ben, which would have torn his head off if it would have collected. Instead, Ben ducked the blow and slammed the injector in the creature's arm. The monster started convulsing and foaming at the mouth, falling to the floor and writhing in pain. Ben was duly impressed with how well the injectors worked. Those things work real well. I really need to thank Abby for sharing them. A third monster had ran up behind the other two, so Ben slid feet first between the second monster's legs, connecting the heel of his right combat boot with the knee joint of the third monster. A sickening wet crack sounded throughout the warehouse as the knee joint folded in on itself. The creature's left toes were touching the front of its thigh. While not dead, it was incapacitated for the time.
Ben stood up to attack the second creature from behind, but the monster had reacted faster than Ben had anticipated. It lashed out with its right elbow, and Ben tried to dodge. He avoided most of the impact, but he was clipped a little and knocked back a few feet. The last creature on the stairs started to lunge at him, but Ben knocked it back by throwing one snap kick to its head, knocking it onto its back. He started running back up the stairs, wanting to keep Abby within eyesight to make sure she was okay.

Re: Assualt on the Warehouse: Continued from Midnight at Nov
I feel really bad with being unable to log on, I'm actually sneaking online now But if you want you can NPC my Abby in the background and write them finishing up and leaving if you want to move Ben on somewhere else, I won't hold any grudges!
"Strange, most people like it when such a giver as yourself shows up." There was only a lopsided smile given in reply to that comment, a few words had past her but she was easily able to fill in the blanks. When people talked they didn't usually sit facing her so half the time she found herself turning down the music and straining to hear what they were saying. If she felt confident enough that they wouldn't start going on about how this type of situations wasn't a place for someone with her 'condition' then she'd freely state her handicap, but people tended to think less of her abilities and so she kept it to herself. She knew she could do whatever she set her mind to, but she didn't know if others could have the same faith in her and she tried to have in herself.
Dark, gloomy, and not so close beside him, Abby reluctantly just turned up her music slightly more figuring he could be humming a lulluby right now and she'd not have a clue. Judging by how Ben was handling himself though he tended to signal a lot, so when he was ready to move she'd know what he intended by whatever his bodylanguage told her.
"Looks like there are about four of them at the foot of the stairs. I'm going to see if I can cinvince them to come up the stairs, since only two at a time can fit." Made sense, Abby was pleased he used his communicator as well, if she could have it hear way she'd be sure any of her partners would have it on constantly but a lot tended to turn it off when she was standing right next to them.
When the action began to pick up, Abby didn't allow any distractions to disrupt her focus, the Arch skillfully being used defensively despite it's destructive abilities. When her scaled opponent lunged at her the vibrant blew blade sliced clear and smooth through his arm, leaving a burned weeping stub at his elbow. Reflexes took the oppertunity of his distraught agony by raising her own arm, bending her clenched fist back to allow the triggering of her wrist blade which was then slammed hard into the right eye. Abby's foot was then rammed into it's dense stomach, her hand yanking back to remove the blade and letting the withering being stumble backwards.
At another shifting shadow looming over her Abby tried to shove her weapon high into its face, but powerful clawed hands had grabbed to the edge of her Arch to stop the attack. Her smaller frame was no match and Abby felt her body being pushed back, a glance over to her side showed that Ben wasn't there. What if he called her after him? The passing thought was passed off quickly since logically if he noticed she wasn't with him and he had gone ahead he would have called her via the com-link.
A flick of a button with her thumb had the arch deactive as she felt her hold on it loosen, a soft grint escaping her as it was torn from her hands. Bringing out her wrist blade again, Abby was unable to use it though as her hand was grabbed by the attacker, who lifted her to a point where her toes no longer touched the ground. Only Abby made no attempt to break free of the grip, it wasn't going to happen and it would only be wasting valuable time that could mean the difference between making it through the day or not. Instead her hand rose to help support her body, her a blade appearing from the tip of her shoe and being kicked hard at the creatures throat. The grip around her captive hand tightened considerably but the pain was ignored, though tension still flooded her the spare hand reached for a stello injecter, stabbing it into the open wound of the neck before being let go and dropped to the stairs.
There was a quiet pause as Abby hesitated for a moment, taking not of the creature still struggling against the assault, but then Abby focused on finding her Arch. The right hand effortless scooped up the device but she knew by morning her left would have a decent swelling and bruises on it. But a night out never ended without a bruise or two, and if it did then she hadn't done her job.
Another movement from the base of the stairs caught her attention and the Arch was activated, not just to jump into an attack, the light of the blade enabled her to better see, since the light being provided wasn't so strong and the further down the stairs they got the light seemed to just be obliterated. The blue gentle hue of her weapon sketched out the features of Ben and.
"I think I like my stand back and sniper idea much better." Supporting the Arch with only one hand, Abby decided to shut it off, taking out her pistol instead. "Ready?" There was hardly ever a rest between while doing a job as far as Abby was concerned, as long as she could walk then there was no point in resting. Not unless her teammate needed a timeout, she was always more leniant on others then she was with herself.
Re: Assualt on the Warehouse: Continued from Midnight at Nov
Ben breathed a sigh of relief when he saw that Abby was okay. He always worried about those who decided to fight along side him, especially when he hadn't seen their skills yet. Ben was glad that Abby had proved just as formidible in close quarters combat as she had at ranged attacks. Looking at the rapidly disentigrating bodies of the enemy, Ben could tell that all of them had either been taken down by Abby's unique energy sword or by a knife thrust.
"I think I like my stand back and sniper idea much better. Ready?"
Ben could understand that. He sometimes forgot that not everyone could get in a fight with a dozen men and come out unscathed. It was part of the reason that he was a little hesitant to lead people into a fight. It took a lot of weight off of his conscience if people came with him willingly.
Sure. Just looking around making sure we wouldn't get any nasty surprises from up here.
Ben lead the way down the stairs, keeping his shield in front of him. A sickening odor became thicker as they got closer to the bottom of the stairs, thick and cloying, feeling as though it was insinuating itself in clothes and hair. It was a smell that Ben had smelled more than he cared to. It was the stench of death and decay.
When they got to the bottom of the stair way, Ben pulled out the electronic pistol that Abby had loaned him. He aimed it around the corner, and got a picture of the surroundings. He looked at the screen, seeing what lay beyond. It wasn't a pretty sight.
Cages that had held people were stacked in the room. Bones were scattered around the ground, and in a few cages there were some people, dirty and beaten down. There were signs of abuse on all of the people, whip marks and burns. The sight made Ben's blood burn, making ihis veins feeling as if they were on fire. There were three larger creatures in there, two of them roughly half a foot taller than their companions upstairs and one more than a foot taller. These also were wearing mismatched pieces of armor, and were carrying makeshift clubs. The tallest one had more scars, and one of its eyes were missing.
Ben moved closer to Abby, and showed what he had recorded. Three of these scum are in there holding captives. It looks as if they have expanded there trade from mutants to anything with a pulse. We need to hit them fast and hard to keep them from using the people as shields. As detached as Ben tried to make his voice, rage still seeped through. He was trying to take a second to calm his emotions, mainly because if he made a decision based solely off of anger one of the hostages could be hurt. Two of them are on the right side of the door. If you can take them with your gun, I should be able to handle the giant one on the left. Any different thoughts about the situation? Ben wanted to know Abby's opinion about this, considering that supernatural monsters were kind of a novelty for Ben. Abby seemed to have had more than a few run ins with the spooky end of the block, and Ben was willing to bet that in this field Abby would have better expertise.
Of course, if Ben had called the situation correct it would be a big boost to his confidence. He seemed a little more cautious with the inclusion of potential hostages, but that was because he coudn't afford to adopt a devil may care attidute when other peoples lives were on the line.
Re: Assualt on the Warehouse: Continued from Midnight at Nov
Sure. Just looking around making sure we wouldn't get any nasty surprises from up here.
A smile was flashed his way as Abby readied her artillery bow, placing the arc away safely on her belt, she’d hold back as long as possible before taking anything on hand to hand again, they were definitely too strong for her. The music in Abby’s ears continued to pulsate, keeping her adrenalin up and her mood bright, already preparing herself for the coming scenes ahead. Unfortunately for Abby, what she was preparing for wasn’t what she expected, the stench that wafted through the air grew only worse with closer proximity, any thought that it was just the putrid smell these creatures produced was slowly pushed from her thoughts as another realization settled upon her.
The young fighters footsteps began to slow as they approached yet another corner, the darkness was heavy on her heart now as the foul smell which poisoned the air, hesitant eyes watching Ben carefully as he proceeded with trying to get a glimpse on the situation at hand.
Three of these scum are in there holding captives. It looks as if they have expanded there trade from mutants to anything with a pulse. We need to hit them fast and hard to keep them from using the people as shields.
There was a hard expression falling over Abby’s features, only a brief gaze at the images seemed possible before she looked at Ben’s lips, only as an excuse as to why she couldn’t keep watching, denying the weakness she felt inside and the rising commotion that threatened the still calm of her resolve.
Two of them are on the right side of the door. If you can take them with your gun, I should be able to handle the giant one on the left. Any different thoughts about the situation?
At this point she’d go in armed with a steel pole and beat them senseless if he asked her to, the young woman closing her eyes, forcing a moment of logical thoughts to proceed that of her emotional uprising. There was one issue, firing a gun will gain immediate attention, then again it was swifter then loading her arrows…she could use a mixture of her weapons, they could use their bloop guns…
"If it gets too much, the bloop gun will be an effective tool to hold them in place," It was the only offer Abby felt she could at in her current frame of mind, though she placed away her artillery bow and took would her pistol again, along with a stiletto injector in her other hand incase anyone came at her from nowhere. "Becareful."
Re: Assualt on the Warehouse: Continued from Midnight at Nov
Ben saw the anger and hurt in Abby's face, and knew that she felt the same way he did about this injustice. He also took her words about the bloop gun to heart. Proving that the human mind is capable of thinking of the most absurb thoughts in the strangest situations, Ben thought There has to be a better name than "bloop" for this thing.
Ben waited for Abby to get ready at her side of the door. He whispered into his communication unit a simple 3-2-1 cuontdown, and rushed at the huge creature on the right of the door, firing the bloop gun at its feet to immobalize the monster. This one was larger by far than any of the other ones, and looked a lot tougher. It had scars across its chest and abdomen, looking like the scars were from others of its kind. Ben thought that by using the bloop gun to keep it's feet in place on the concrete floor, this would be a swift fight.
The monster proved him wrong by slamming the floor with its fist, shattering the stone that it was stuck to. To make things worse, the creature picked up a blade about as long as Ben was tall, and started swinging it like it had some idea how to use it. Ben managed to get his shield up just in time to take the creatures first blow, but the impact made his right arm go numb for a few seconds and slid his feet back about a foot. The goop in that gun looks like some military police use for non leathal submission. All the rest of these things shouldn't have been able to get out of it. This thing has a lot more strength than the rest of these creatures.
Ben knew that the main thing he had to do was keep this monster away from the captives. Protecting them was the foremost concern, then making sure Abby got out alive. Ben's own life was pretty far down the list. He started dodging and ducking around the creature's blade, lashing out defensively to gauge this monster's durability. The creature's stomach only gave a little, not giving much. It produced no real effect, and gave no real damage to the monster.
Ben realized pretty quickly that his tactics against this one would have to be those of attirition, wearing this monster down and attacking its joints and weak spots. Considering its advantage in reach and strength, Ben would have to fight defensively letting this thing tire itself out on his defenses. The good news was that this thing was getting so mad that it was blindly following Ben. The bad news was that each blow that connected with Ben's shield rattled Ben to the very core.
I think it's about time that I lead this dance. Ben growled through gritted teeth. He slid underneath the monster's sideswipe cut, and kicked out at the creature's left knee. It dislocated, but it didn't seem to bother the creature much. It slowed down the monster, but it didn't stop it, or even cause it to stagger. But at least Ben now had an advantage in speed and agility. And he was good at expoliting little advantages like that. He remembered a lesson his father had given him when he was 9. If you have a crippled opponent who is stronger than you, use fients and hit and run tactics to wear the enemy down. That way, your risk will be minimized.
Unfortunately, this was not the sort of situation where the nice, techinical rules of classical warfare could be followed. Ben wanted to put this thing down, fast. He kept luring it closer to a support beam, darting in and out of the things reach with its blade. The thing finally took a downward swing near the support, gashing the concrete. Ben quickly drew and fired the bloop gun at the steel support and floor, glueing the blade to the floor. The creature let go of its weapon and lashed out with its claws, and Ben instantly backflipped to get out of range. He didn't entirely escape, since the monster managed to graze his left arm with its claws.
Ben grinned at this creature saying Come on big guy, are you going to let a little puny human get the best of you?
The monster roard and started a shambling run, limited because of its dislocated knee. Ben ran forward, looking like he was going to meet it head on. Instead, he braked halfway there and snapped his shield forward at it, hurling it at the creatures face. He ran in right behind it, using his flying shield as a visual obstruction to hide his position. His shield quickly outpaced him, and he caught it as it rebounded after catching the creature in the teeth. Ben leaped up in the air and spun, landing a hard right kick on the side of the creatures head. As gravity started drawing Ben down to the ground, he pulled out one of the stilleto injectors and pulnged it into the creature's eye socket. The thing fell to the floor, grabbing at it;s head and moaning in agony. Having a needle jabbed inside of its brain and having a load of chemicals pumped in there. Yeah, this one is gone.
Ben started running back to the cells, wondering how Abby's end of the fight had faired.
Re: Assualt on the Warehouse: Continued from Midnight at Nov
*dusts off thread*... I can't believe how long it's taken me to catch up lol..*still owes at least 6 more posties*
Ben’s countdown echoed in Abby’s mind, she was lucky, it seemed most attention had been caught on Ben, who made a more dramatic entrance then Abigail’s swift duck into the room. What exactly Ben was doing had lost focus on Abby’s mind, her attention tuning into the people who needed her help. There was a corner in which she hid herself, aiming her bloop gun at on eof the dangerous silhouettes of the lizard-men creatures. Squeezing the trigger released the substance which engulfed the legs of one of the inhuman monsters moving off in the direction Ben had begun his attack. A swift exchange for her Artillery bow soon put an end to the struggling entity which had a virus tipped arrow pierce into the side of his skill. The fact the arrow didn’t fly through told Abby just how strong their skeletal structure really was, their stamina was definitely high, she’d have no chance with hand to hand combat.
A moments pause to scout the gloom of the area the cages were in, soon desperate whispers began to rise, just a muffled noise barely notable in the background of the music in her ears. A hand swiftly rose to her lips, realizing that was pretty daft for anyone to actually see her in the dark she reluctantly moved from her hiding spot.
"Sshh.. it’s ok, I’m going to let you out, you have to be quiet." As Abby spoke her hands examined one of the rather bulky padlocks, the young girl inside the cage rushing to the door and wrapping her slender though grubby fingers around the cold bars. Abby’s eyes lifted to stare at the hazel gaze desperately looking back at her, undernourished arms tugging eagerly at the bars once as she whispered softly a plea for freedom. Collars were worn around their necks, the grim of the warehouse rubbing off on the captives, the gaze on the collar prompted the starved girl to explain it quickly.
"We can’t use our powers.." The hoarse voice trailed off as her fingers of one hand reached for the collar. Despair and panic flickered in the girls eyes, Abby unable to even respond in the slightest before a sharp pain gripping onto her shoulder, a murmured cry escaping the luck blessed mutant as hooked claws pierced through the fabric of her clothes and into the flesh of her skin. A low growl reached even Abby’s ears, though from standing she found herself tossed aside like a child’s least favourite rag doll, hitting one of the cages and shortly after feeling two sets of hands grabbing at her desperately trying to help her to her feet unsteadily.
Dazed by the hit she had on the back of her head, Abby had to blink hard to tell the difference between the black fainting spell of her mind and the obscurity of the room itself. The pain of her shoulder came back two fold as she moved to try and grab hold of the bars of the cage in order to steady herself, though movement had to be swift and constant as she could half see the creature lunging at her, its massive claws swiping fiercely in her direction. Darting around the cage proved risky as the creature wasn’t fussed trying to rip its way through the iron bars to get to Abby, which caused two of the occupants to screen. With her right shoulder wounded, Abby held her bloop gun with her left hand, shooting a round towards the creature’s upper torso as she weaved out from behind the cages and moved away from them to the other side the room.
"Where’s that knight in shinning armour when ya need him?" Abby commented, not really referring to Ben in particular but dropping the bloop gun accidentally in her fidgeting to try and get her other pistol out of its holster. The lizard-like insectoid crossbreed of a creature managed to only half part of his form covered in the solidifying solution, leaving one arm awkwardly trying to claw it off him. It didn’t seem at all pleased as Abby shot a single bullet at its chest, followed shortly after by another shot as it seemed more angry that hurt and Abby wasn’t so perfectly well aimed with her opposite arm.
Re: Assualt on the Warehouse: Continued from Midnight at Nov
Ben saw the monster tear through the bars and saw the blood on one set of its claws. He saw the goop binding the monster on one side, and heard a pair of gunshots that didn't drop the creature. And he felt helpless. It seemed as if he couldn't move fast enough as a small amount of panic set in, as Ben's slightly overprotective manner set in. The thoughts going through his mind were along the lines of How dare this creature hurt anyone around me! Nobody hurts anyone whose my friend or innocents!
This really wasn't anything new. When he was fifteen, he had seen one of his parents friends get attacked by a frost giant and had tried to protect that friend, regardless of the fact that this friend could hold his own against the freaking Hulk for a while.
Any psychologist could have told Ben that the reason he felt so protective of everyone was because of his guilt over the death of his parents. No rational person would hold Ben at fault since the monster that killed his parents was one of the greatest evils in the history of the human race. Heck, the guy thought that visiting concentration camps in the forties was fun, and once took over a nation of what he deemed subhumans and proceded to strave the populace, just to see people fight over a scrap of bread. Yet Ben felt guilt over not being able to stand up to such a monster when he was 12.
This quirk of Ben's mind came into play at wierd times. Normally the guilt was quickly replaced with a righteous anger, and this time was no exception. With a wordless snarl, Ben leaped up on the creature's back, taking care to avoid the goop. He latched on with his left hand, taking care to keep close so the creature couldn't get a hold of him and throw him off. He had his shield on his right arm, and started pounding the edge of it into the back of the monsters neck. Ben felt those claws slash him on the back, but he was to angry and determined to be disuaded by a few scratches. He reached around with his left hand, and plunged his thumb into one of the creature's eyes.
Now that made the monster howl in agony.
Ben felt the monster's neck muscles relax some, and took one last hit on the vertabrea of the creature's neck, this time managing to hit it just right with the edge of his shield, creating a loud crack as the bone gave away.
Ben slid off of the monster as it started convulsing, blood trickling down his right shoulder where this creature had clawed him and some more showing on his left arm. He looked around to make sure that the coast was clear and asked "Is everyone all right?" in a slightly rougher than normal voice.

Hank, I am so sorry, but I can't keep up with the threads I'm in and posting is so hard as it is, I'm forced to cut down in a number of threads and this has to be one because I just keep you waiting and waiting and with the heatwave I'm do less and less postings and getting further and further behind.
Let's just say Abby and Ben saved the rescues and resort to the finer details in flash backs if we must, but I just can't keep dragging you on like this, I'm soooo sorry.
Go and find a thread with someone else, I suggest a few swift posters like Zira if you want to contact someone about quick posties... she's pretty good, and has a few characters. I'm really sorry and hope later we can unite the two when I'm not so strained for time.
