Because you demanded it!
Okay, actually because you requested it, but hey... I'm melodramatic. Well, and because someone planted the seed of a thought in his ugly head and Bizzaro Kardiac wouldn't leave me alone all night... it was "you am drawing Mary Marvel" this and "when am you not going to start drawing the ugly Mary Marvel" that...
Anyway, since I've always seen Mary Marvel as the pure type, I went through an on-line catalog and found a "teen" bathing suit that was cute without being, well, "hot", then I added the requesite Marvel-family logos to make her stand out a little more for who she is, and, well, I came up with this:
Have I mentioned how much I dislike Ezcodes... there's no fine control like setting the height and width of an image to expedite download speeds... oh well, I guess it works well enough if the pic comes out the right size.
Anyway, I hope you like her. (Or don't like her in the Bizzaro sense of the word) Because of her age in the comic, I went for cute instead of sexy, and I think it works... it does for me anyway.
<based on several Bruce Timm drawings, including a jungle queen, Poison Ivy, and Wonder Woman sketch with an arm-shape provided by the Casey Jones pic Wolfie posted a few days back... oh, and I based the colors on the ones Wolfie used on that pic, because I liked them; the background was created using a background from the Official Justice League website, a little rendering by moi, and a picture a friend of mine took at the beach>
Re: Because you demanded it!
Excellent. That was certainly not the easiest picture I've ever done. Size matching from four different pics, matching line density, multi-tier shading, background matching, filtering, oy vey...
Re: Because you demanded it!
jez, Kard.
that really came out nice.
it almost sounds like it should look borderline frankenstein-esque, but it came out pretty fluid.
and yeah, it's cute.

he said the net reward would justify the colossal mess they'd made of their lives

Thanks guys. I'm still not entirely satisfied with her face, but I think the toe dipping in the water came out better than I had hoped it might.

Re: Because you demanded it!
> betcha were gonna post that at DCU Animated, until the Swimsuit thread was deleted, yeah ?
Actually, it was a custom job for a request that was made here, so I didn't even start on it until that thread was dead and gone. Albeit, I didn't cross-post it at DCUA out of respect for Krypt's removal of the previous thread, but it wasn't made with that thread in mind.
Re: Because you demanded it!
MyOhMy! That pic is just utterly sweet, Kard! Did I miss you posting this over at DCUA, or didja mean it to be an exclusive here? Either way, It's lovely.
Re: Because you demanded it!
I use Photoshop to color. I put each color on a separate layer, then use feathered select areas with transparency preserved and adjust hue and saturation to get the shading done.
Re: Because you demanded it!
That sounds complicated. I use two layers. So like each for every color on your picture you have a layer for it? Do you just color part or flood fill the entire layer?
Re: Because you demanded it!
I use the lasso tool to select just the area I want to color, then use the fill tool to fill those parts of the layer. I overlap the black lines when I select the area, then after I've filled it, I change the layer blending to Multiply which brings the lines through and prevents aliasing around the edges. Then I use the lasso tool again to select hilighted or shadowed areas, feather the selections, and adjust hue and saturation to get the desired effect.
Re: Because you demanded it!
I have a tablet at work, which makes drawing select areas much much easier for me. I use a touch-pad at home, which is more difficult, but makes using the painbrush virtually impossible for me.
Personally, I prefer the smooth, even line given by using my select-and-feather technique, since it's really hard to perfectly match the aliased edges with the paintbrush tool.
Re: Because you demanded it!
Thanks. It does rock doesn't it? I actually think I got the hang of the lasso today. Now I need to do a new project. Thanks for opening my eyes to a new tech.
Ohhhhhh Wolf you know without your help I wouldn't have understood the layer thingie.
