Brenda Barrett Passed away 27 march 2008
Brenda Barrett passed away while traveling with her husband to Vancouver, BC in her sleep.
Brenda was one of the first members of this online support group participating here as well as the Pars Planitis forum of Pars Plantitis.org. Brenda developed a list of Canadian Doctors for the Group which is still available at www.iritis.org and at the pars planitis forum.
a couple of years ago she and her husband went out of their way to travel to Seattle Washington while on Vacation just to have a chance to meet me after all these years. Tony, her husband told me that she considered me to be her Dad in many ways as she didn't have one.
I feel honored to have known Brenda and will miss her dearly.
God bless you Brenda and Know that we love you!
Most sincerely,
Mike Bartolatz
Re: Brenda Barrett Passed away 27 march 2008
Oh, my heart is so heavy today. A few years ago, I had the wonderful pleasure of meeting Brenda and her husband Tony. Brenda came to Boston to see Dr.Foster for a consultation. We spent a lovely late morning brunch at a support group member's home (who so graciously opened up her home to Brenda and Tony). Liz attended also, along with a couple of others in the Boston area.
Brenda had a glow about her...that's all I can think of to describe the impression she left on me. It saddens me so to think she is no longer on this earth. She gave so much of herself to her family, friends and the students she taught over the years. I don't understand why God took her so soon but I know she was here for a purpose. She dedicated herself to help others, that's for certain. She was a great contributor here with this support group when those of us needed it. She will be terribly missed by me....and my heart goes out to Tony and her family. May you find peace and joy with God, Brenda.
so sad
It was so sad to read this post about Brenda, yet you all seem to have been a part of her family, and it sounds like you gave her love and support, and she returned it. I am so sad to read she died. I remember reading her posts and the support you all gave to her. I will keep her family in my prayers too. It is so hard to care for her and lose her like this.

Ah, how very sorry I am to hear the news of Brenda's passing. Many years ago, when I first came to this board to find out more about uveitis, I mentioned that I was on my way to western Canada for vacation. Brenda contacted me and she and her husband Tony drove hours and hours out of their way to meet me at a tiny little hotel in the middle of woods. I remember well the delightful dinner, drinks, and hours we spent chatting as though we'd known each other for years instead of hours. She and Tony were so kind and warm and friendly and I am so very sorry for her family and friends and students. Jane
Re: Brenda
Jane,
thanks for refreshing my memory of your vacation and meeting with Brenda and Tony.
when they came to the Seattle area, I met them for breakfast and we talked for hours. I can so vividly recall being with them as if I had known them personally for many years yet this was the first and only meeting of this kind for me with them. It is a very great loss for the World with this loss of a very special Young Lady.
After four years of being out of harms way as far as this disease goes, today I have had a relapse. I was thinking that no other news could be as bad as that in which I received this morning, but I was wrong.
Brenda was almost like having an online sister so many years ago when I was most troubled in my rocky journey along this beaten uveitis track. She would have spent a lot of her precious time sending me emails of encouraging words. It was hers and others words of encouragement that helped me at times when I felt I had completely had enough. I didn't need to know her in everyday life to realise she was a beautiful human being, both inside and out.
I hope wherever she is now, she is being treated like the star that she still is to me. xo
Re: Brenda
Ally,
I am so sorry to learn of this renewed inflammation that you have today. You too are like one of our kids here at UOSG although you are a young lady now. Please know that I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Hoping that your uveitis will return to remission soon.
how's the summer going down under? are you still living on the Coast going out in your dad's boat from time to time?
there is a Dr McCluskey (sp) there in Eastern Austrailia that you might wish to consult. his contact information is on Dr Foster's specialists List.
wishing you a Wonderful Christmas and a Cell Free New Year,
Mike
I'm sure I will be back on track in no time, my vision is already 80% back to normal from yesterday. I'm what they call the little Aussie battler.
It is boiling hot here, in fact the weather is about the only thing I can (maybe??) pinpoint this inflammation relapse on as there has been no other illnesses or stress on my plate! Then again idiopathic 'idiot' uveitis usually does what it wants and it maybe decided to have a christmas party on it's own accord this year.....It has been very erratic weather wise lately - one day is a complete opposite to the next and so on and so forth. Saturday is supposed to be very hot - lucky I still live at the beach. And yeah I still manage to get my old man to take me out on his boat sometimes - I'm actually working for a powerboat company!
Re: Brenda
lets hope the uveitis is quickly put back into remission my little aussie friend.
I so envy your weather there on the East Coast of Oz. I'd take HOT over the dreary overcast and drizzily weather that might become SNOW on Saturday morning.
my arthritis is acting up in my foot now making walking a bit of a chore. (broke a bone in it a couple of years ago) the cold to the bone in my hands is making the raynauds act up too. my eyes have been quiet now for several years other than the severe dry eyes that I have. punctal plugs and preservative free eyedrops have made that manageable.
all signs of exudate have disappeared too and the debris load floating in my eyes has gone way down too. I still have distortion from the CME/epiretinal membranes with peripheral loss of vision but I'll take what I have and enjoy what life has to offer.
I have a 3 year old grandson, a 5 month old grand daughter and my daugther is expecting a little girl in April so christas will be an even better experience in a couple of years. (it's allot of fun now though).
Re: Brenda
Sounds like you are doing pretty good eye wise at the moment Mikey, hope it continues on along the safe path for you.
Your near future Christmases are going to become very enjoyable! I would love to adopt a little kid, even just for Christmas - it becomes more about organising things and obligatory visits to the inlaws when you get 'old'. I would very much like to put the fun and 'Santa' back into it!
Snow - how I would love to see snow at Christmas, it would make it much more authentic than the limp salads and million and one flies we put up with here. Some people in Australia have really gotten serious about 'Christmas in July' in recent years as it is so much easier to enjoy a big, hearty, home cooked meal when it's not 40 degrees celcius!
Hope you have a fantastic Christmas Mikey, stay well and hope to speak to you again soon.
