Legal Status: Registered Mutant; criminal record
Race: Mutant
Place of Birth: Wheeling, WV
Marital Status: Dating
Gender: Male
Age: 15

Physical Description:

Brett is short for his age, only 5’4”. He has a small but muscular build that helps him when it comes to gymnastics. He keeps his brown hair at a medium length and has learned to cut it himself so that no other person has to touch him. He normally wears dark sunglasses to hide his glowing green eyes. The only part of his eyes that glows is the iris, which until his mutation was actually blue. He has no facial hair because he feels that it would look weird with his size.

He normally wears long, loose jeans and a variety of different shirts. Though his mutation has to do with skin to skin contact, he is careful only to touch those immune to his powers. The shirts are in a variety of colors that he feels goes well with his eyes. Colors that he almost never wears include pale yellow and pink.

Mother: Elizabeth Connor-Human-Deceased
Father: Aaron Connor-Mutant-Deceased
Other important people: Luke James Starr-Mutant-Alive-Boyfriend
: Kyle Jackson Starr-Mutant-Alive-Roommate

Mutant Powers:

-Absorption of bio-energy or life force: Brett has the curse of absorbing the life force of any human that he touches with bare skin. Because of this, he is untouchable to all but the invulnerable. The effects of the absorption depend on how long the contact is maintained. If the contact is only a few seconds, the victim becomes weak, finding it harder to move, think, and breath. If contact lasts for longer than a minute, the victim is then knocked unconscious. If the connection is unbroken before all the life force is drained from them, they will ultimately die as a result.

-Manifestation of bio-energy: Brett’s own life force replenishes itself over time. The rate at which his energy manifests is based mostly on the amount of energy left in his body; however sleep will allow him to manifest energy quicker. The more energy that remains, the easier it is to restore the energy. If he uses too much of his energy and is inches from death, the energy will only manifest fast enough to keep him from death. The absorption and manifestation of bio-energy does not act like a healing factor, it will keep him from death only if there is not a natural cause for the death such as a bullet piercing a vital organ or a large loss of blood.

-Projection of bio-energy: Brett is capable of projecting his bio-energy in a number of ways. He can project it through his hands which then acts as a solid beam of energy which can be used to batter opponents and smash walls, he can project a low level force field that protects from physical attacks, project his energy in a nova type way centering around his body, or use his energy to propel himself through the air. Every second that he uses his projection power, he uses his own bio-energy which decreases rapidly. After too long, his energy will wear out and he will die. Unlike the victims of the absorption, he will not become unconscious while using his power. As his energy leaves his body, he feels himself getting weaker. He can feel the energy draining and he knows when it’s almost depleted. This is the only thing that keeps him from killing himself. After over exertion, when he stops using his power, he slips into unconsciousness, unable to keep himself awake.

Skills

-Tea Kwon Do: Tae Kwon Do is a style of Karate, an open-handed fighting style. Tae Kwon Do focuses on physical discipline, physical strength and flexibility, and dedication to the art. Because of his father, Brett has spent eight years studying this art. In those eight years, Brett has achieved the status of Blue belt. He could have progressed faster if he had actually wanted to, but his heart wasn't in it.

-Gymnastics: Brett is able to preform a wide variey of flips including back hand springs, front hand springs, back tucks, front tucks, cartwheels, and somersaults. Brett is also efficent on the uneven bars and balance beam.

-Endurance: Because of his intense physical background, Brett's level of endurance, his ability to push is body, is higher than the average persons.

Personality:

Brett is very hyper individual. Although he is hyper, he is still very careful around other people. His powers scare him and he's afraid of having more accidents like what happened on his fourteenth birthday. At times, he wishes that he was just a normal person; that his x-gene had never developed. Had that been the case, he would still have his father and best friend.

Very few students are willing to become close to him because of fear or discrimination. His powers will never be completely controlled, though some aspects now are, and they are afraid of accidentally coming in contact with him. The discrimination comes from the fact that he is openly homosexual. A few, however, have decided to look past his mutation and homosexuality. He has even gained a few trusted friends and has even found a boyfriend that is immune to his power. Even with this outlook from most of the students, he is always kind and would do almost anything for his friends.

On most sunny afternoons he resigns himself to reading either under or in his favorite oak tree on the grounds. He wishes he could go swimming in the summer with the other students; however, he would have to make sure the only people in the pool were able to resist his powers. Like clockwork, at dusk he seeks out his boyfriend and the cuddle, much to the dislike of some students, in their favorite couch until curfew.

If conflict arises, he is very unlikely to stand up for himself, but will immediately step in to protect one of the few friends that he’s gained.

He was afraid of coming to the institute at first because he was afraid that he was going to be treated as even more of a minority since he's gay. Once he got there, he discovered that most of the students didn't care.

History:

Brett was born at 1:13pm on Halloween in Wheeling, WV. At the exact time of his birth, his mother, who was a precog, had a vision of her own death.

Brett's mother had several more visions before her death, and knew that her son would have a hard life, but that he would never complain about it. In one vision, she saw a sixteen-year-old Brett kissing another boy. Rather than be upset by the image, she was happy to know that he would be able to find love in his life after her death, and the death of his father. She did not give her husband the details of his death for two reasons. She had never told her husband that she was a mutant and decided that some things, such as details about death, are best left unknown.

Brett always had a very close relationship with both of his parents, growing up in a very rural area without many children his own age to play with. It wasn’t until he started school that it became clear he would be very popular. Most of the other kids wanted to come over to play and Brett’s parents actually had to set a limit on how many people could come over at once. When his new found friends would come over, they would often go into the woods behind Brett’s house and play in the small creek.

When Brett was six; he asked his mother if he could take gymnastic lessons. Determined to allow her son the life that he desired, she said yes. His father was upset with this decision and decided to create a balance and make him take martial arts lessons.

Two years later, his mother died in a car accident. A tractor-trailer slammed into her small car on the interstate. She could have easily avoided the accident, having seen what would happen, but when she decided that she would not drive that day, she had another vision showing a bus full of children being hit by the same truck with nearly thirty fatalities because the original accident did not occur. Having great love for human life and a child of her own, she decided that she could not allow all of those children to die because of her. His father, determined not to let his son fall into lonely depression, made his son continue to take martial arts and even gymnastics. Devoting all of his energy into the two activities, he quickly excelled.

Even though he never had time to focus on his mother’s death, there wasn’t a day that he didn’t think about her. He knew, however, that she would not want him to give up everything. She would want him to go on with his life and live out his dreams. So he carried out what he thought was his mother’s wishes. He worked until he achieved all the dreams that a child can achieve.

After years of competing in both gymnastic and martial arts competitions, Brett went to middle school. There he tried out for the cheerleading squad in the fall, in winter he was put on swim team, and in the spring he tried out for the track team. He made all three activities and over his years in the different groups, was made captain of the cheerleading squad and swim team. He was a decent student usually making high B’s or A’s in most of his classes.

In his sixth grade year, he discovered that his crushes were on the boys in his class, rather than the girls. Since the death of his mother, he was not nearly as close to his father, and decided not to tell him this. This information would greatly disturb him. He would have to live with a secret for the rest of his life.

On his thirteenth birthday, his father rented the local community center for his party. He and his friends were splashing around dunking each other when his powers first appeared. He was picking up his best friend Jeff Tanner when he found that, at the time, he could not break contact. Jeff was starting to have problems breathing and Brett felt empowered. He was worrying about his friend, so he called for his father to help him. When his father put his hand on Brett's shoulder to pry the two boys apart, once again, the connection could not be broken. Brett drained the life out of both his friend and father in one fateful night.

The authorities were contacted at once and took Brett to a private jail cell in the police station, where he stayed for the duration of one week. During that week, he was constantly mocked by all of the officers in the station save one. She was the only one that cared that a thirteen year old boy was now orphan. When she told him the she was going to try to help, he just looked at her and tears filled his eyes. The others told her that she was crazy to try to help a mutant. While she tried to find ways to help, the others merely taunted Brett for his curse. He cried himself to sleep every night he spent in the jail, not just because of the taunting he endured from the fact that no one cared that he had now lost three of the most important people in his life. She called Xavier’s to see if there was anything that could be done to help the child. Xavier hired an attorney for the Brett and the judge, who had a mutant child himself, ruled the two deaths to be accidental and sent Brett to live at Xavier’s, where he has been since.

Had it not been for that one kind police woman, Brett would have probably had a great desire to destroy the “normal” humans, but her kindness was enough to save him.

On his first day, it was decided that Rogue should be the one to give him his tour since she would be able to best connect with the boy. While following Rogue up a flight of stairs, Brett, who had decided to take the name "Risk", tripped and made skin-to-skin contact with Rogue. To the surprise of both, nothing happened. The students of the institute discovered his past, because secrets are rarely kept at Xavier’s, and most of them distanced themselves from him.

Not a day goes by that he doesn’t think about his mother, father, and Jeff. Most of the time he wishes his x-gene had never developed. The only good thing that came from it was he met Luke, his current boyfriend. They met within the first few weeks of Brett being at the institute. It was slightly uncomfortable for Brett at the time when a tall young man with piercing sky blue eyes just walked over and made the proclamation that he thought Brett was cute. He asked Brett to eat lunch with him that day so that they could get to know each other better. Since this was the first time anyone had made an attempt to gain his friendship, so he agreed. While at the table eating, Luke tried to grab Brett’s exposed hand. Brett, who had not thought to wear gloves at this point, immediately pulled away. Surprised by this, because he had not heard of Brett’s past yet, he said “It’s not like I’ll hurt you.” To which Brett replied “No, but I might hurt you.” Luke looked at Brett and said “You couldn’t if you wanted to,” as he grasped his hand. Just like with Rogue, nothing happened. Brett, who had started to develop a crush on Luke, suddenly realized that this was exactly what he needed, someone to hold him, to listen to him, to help him face the fact that Brett’s mutation had caused the deaths of two very important people to him.

Brett decided to tell Luke the entire story of his past before anyone else did. When he had finished his story, Luke just walked up to him and, wrapping him gently in his arms, whispered in his ear “I’m so sorry that happened to you. I wish there was something I could do,” and kissed him tenderly on the forehead.

Later, Luke told Brett that the reason he couldn’t hurt him if he wanted to was because he was invulnerable. At that time, Brett made the connection; as long as someone was invulnerable, he could touch them.

Over Christmas, Luke had Brett go home with him. Luke’s parents were very excited to meet Brett, as was K.J., Luke’s younger brother. “I’m so not used to this from other people’s families,” he told Luke. “Don’t worry,” Luke replied. “They just want to make you feel like part of the family. After all, I think we’ll be together for a long time.”

While staying at the Starr’s home, it was decided that Brett would stay in K.J.’s room. Luke tried to argue, but his parents had already made up their minds. Luke and Brett were not able to warn the Starr family of Brett’s “condition.” On the first morning, K.J. grabbed the arm of Brett, who sleeps in just a pair of shorts, and shook him to wake him up. Once awake, Brett immediately pulled away. “Why didn’t anything happen?” he questioned. “What do you mean?” responded K.J. “I mean, when I touch people, I usually hurt them. I don’t hurt your brother because he’s invulnerable, what’s your excuse?” asked Brett. “No clue,” said K.J. “But don’t you think it’s cool that I’m immune to your power?”

It was no more than a few weeks after returning when Luke told Brett that K.J.’s x-gene had developed, and he was going to be attending Xavier’s. K.J. and Brett became roommates because they were close in age and already friends.

After the development of his powers, he has had no contact with his old friends. Whether because they are too afraid or because their parents won’t allow them, he doesn’t know. He has long wished that they would at least try to contact him, but it doesn’t really matter anymore because he has found friends that accept him the way that he is.

'C'mon, I know I can do this,' Brett thought as twenty odd robots encircled him. 'I just need to focus. Besides, all the safety protocols are online.' He slowly turned, trying to figure out which robot would attack first. Then one lunged at him. He focused for a second before hitting the robot with his fist, glowing green with a charge of bio-energy. The robot went sailing across the room and smashed when it hit the wall. "One down," he said confidently.

He didn't however, have time to celebrate. Five or six of the robots had started to charge their stun beams. He had to act now. Kicking off the ground, he sent bursts of glowing energy at the two closest robots while projecting more energy straight below him. The remaining robots with charged beams fired and his feet just cleared the energy. 'Cutting it kinda close.’ I'll have to be more careful,' but the robots beams had hit other robots, shorting their power supply.

'This might hurt,' he thought, raising his force field. He aimed straight at a group of robots and smashed into them. He looked around; there were still at least fifteen robots coming at him. He flew back into the air to prepare another attack. Just then, he felt a sharp pain in his back. His concentration failed and he fell out of the air. He landed on his arm and felt a weird sensation as his shoulder displaced itself. He yelped in pain and was shot again, this time square in the chest. 'This is taking to long. I’m getting hurt. Other students would have been done by now. Guess it’s time to try something new.’ He launched himself into the air towards the middle of the room and gathered most of his remaining energy. A perfect green sphere formed around his body and a second later, the remaining robots were smashed between the floors and walls and his energy. "That wasn't so hard after all," he said. His victory was short lived however. Before he could even think of landing, his energy gave out and he fell ten feet the cold metal floor. Reaching up to the COM device on his chest he said "Rogue, this is Risk. I went overboard again." Then he let the familiar darkness cover his senses.
