Busy Busy Busy!
I have been out all morning! UI had to go get some papers signed by our family Dr for my sons disabilty, talk about a pain in the Butt, I missed two busses I was late for my appointment, then I tripped over on the way out the Dr's door and landed on the floor in the hall way! I felt like such an idiot!
I am going to go make a cup of tea and relax for a bit before I tidy house and make some Choc Chip Cookies!

Rosie I say screw the cookies! Go out and buy a bag, plunk yourself down infront of the tv OR in the bathtub, break open the new bag of cookies put your feet up and ENJOY!
I have just now got off the phone with Canada Customs Man I have Canada Customs. My husband was sent 7 promo/sample CD's from a friend in Korea They were free for his friend and he gave them to my hubby.. Canada Customs charged us $20:00 Customs/Tax on them?? Get this you can only recieve ONE Sample/Promo Item per parcel ?? so I asked the guy so how id you put a value of $10 per CD (On FREE CD'S, and then charge me Tax/Customs on that) No body has paid for the FREE CD's? they were given away at a record/cd store in Korea? It has printed on them No exchange od money should be made on these Promo CD's) Now as far as i am concerned Canada Customs are now making money on these FREE PROMO CD's and they are breaking the law! He told me I was breaking the law to recive more than ONE item per parcel sent to nme??
But I didn't exchange any money not did my ghubby for the gift of 7 promo CD's form his friend, if we had know we were going to be charged money by canada Customs for free items we would have told his friend not to send them! Anyway the guy said he felt for me(Whatever that ment?) an he will allow me to claim my $20:00 back if i take photos of them to prove that it is stamped all over them that they were PROMO CD's! Now really if they had opened them and looked at them they would have seen this(And yes they did open them) This really ticks me off it is total Bull! Can you tell I am having a really BAD WEEK!

Ohhhhhhhhhh Rosey I HEAR YA. The customs thing always gets you. I was quite enjoying my little spending spree on bidz.com until Canada Customs starting hitting me. Now unfourtanately, I have to behave myself
I'm really hoping your week gets better! Here have a
Re: Busy Busy Busy!
I am so choked at Canada Customs I still can not believe they have the chhek to charge customs on A FREE ITEM??
Now I am worried as I just bought $80:00 something pluss books(Secondhand) from a lady in the U.S.A, and if I get dinged Customs on those I will FREAK!
I told her to put on them that they were a GIFT and if possible wrap them up in pretty paper and to only put the value as $30 U .S Funds as if it goes over $60 Canadain Funds even if it is a gift you get charged customs on it, the Customs Inspecter told me that today, so I e-mailed the lady straight away as i only sent her the postal order on the weekend so she won't have mailed them to me yet.

Ohhh ok that explains why I was getting hit with duty on some items and not others. It's over $60.00. Ok. Hey Rosie where are you in Canada?? I'm in the Province of Ontario.
I also asked him if there was like a little booklet on Canada Customs for the consumer(That would be me ) :) But he said NO and gave me a 1800 number for all inquries.
It is total Bull though as last year I bought two cook books from the U. S. A. they were $14:99 U S Funds and yet Canada Customs charged me $35:59 Canadain Customs on them.. I refused them and they were sent back to the lady she then felt so bad for me she mailed them free of charge to a friend/pen/pal I have in the U.S.A. and he sent them to me as a GIFT and I was charged nothing for them! It turns out that as the lady I bought them from had stamed on the parcel that she was an online internet busines and even though she put GIFT on the pacel and there was no recipt in the parcel for the cookbooks Canada Customs deemed them to be valued at more and chrged me customs/tax on them. The lady had tried to be helpful to je by putting GIFT and a value of $10:00 US Funds but Canada Customs seem to beat to their own drum and do whatever they like! It really ticks me off!

I know Rosie it is so frustrating. Canada Customs doesn't miss a thing. If I recall correctly I found some information on line somewhere regarding all the charges. If I can dig it up for you I'll post it here.
Re: Busy Busy Busy!
yes please do post it if you find it, in fact maybe thats what I will do tomorrow, is look up to see if I can find out something online that would be easier than having to call a 1-800 # all the time for info.
Re: Busy Busy Busy!
OMGosh! Geesh Rosey....with taxes like that, how could anyone ever afford to buy anything via mail?
I went through something similiar to this many years ago with a gift my ex-husband had sent to me when he was in Cairo. He had bought me a gorgeous gold necklace - over there - they only charge for the weight of the gold, not the craftsmanship - so, compared to what it would have costs here in the states, it was a hell of a bargain. That is, until it reached US Customs.
Don't remember how much they were going to charge me, but it was outrageous! Anyway....I refused receipt of the shipment and they sent it back to him. He sent it back to me via cargo transport on a military plane and I got it with no problems. Funny thing too......no one in Customs said a darn thing about the case of German wine he shipped back to me. All I had to do there was sign for the darn thing!
