Can VW Power Be Competitive
I've now raced my VW powered Beasley B-2 3 times . Gingerman National , Qualified on pole 1st time in car ,over Jeff Miller and 2 Mazda powered Beasley B-2's. I qualified 1 second off my best time when running a Mazda. Fuel Cell Foam Deteration Effected Qualifing and Was My Demise In The Race.Nelson Ledges National I had overheating gremlins , started last, caught my Mazda powered rental (3 time national champ car) and went faster than I've ever gone during an event , with my Mazda , 1:04.0 . Mid-Ohio Nat. Quilified in rain 13th. , I had an engine mis from water in an electrical connection for Injection .We were grouped C,D,S-2000,And spec racers 56 cars ,I took lead 1/2 to 3/4 of the way ,over Jacek Mucha ,Tim Dunn (mazda rental),Jim Stienhefler,& 4 others. Is Mazda dominate or may be VW ,or may be anything ,if it's the right package set-up properly ,or maybe it's all driver ,but probably not becuase I was driving.

Cosworth too????
I think you are correct. The playing field is as level as I have seen it in years. Hope to have our Cosworth powered car testing in about 3 weeks. Should be fun.

Witch V-W engine are you useing.I have a DSR that had a 1600 boxer engine in it at one time and a corvair at one time. When I bought it there was a KZ-1000 air cooled in it.I am putting a ZX-11 in it now.It would be nice to run in ether class with just a engine/trans change. Ron

VW Power
I'm Running Nothing Special. A coverted Super V 1600 Watercooled. Converted from 1600 to 1800 or 17 something. It has a 1600 Bertils Head,Racetronic Fuel Injection. My Guess is @210 HP.Bertil can build a C S/R Legal 1835cc Big Valve Short stroke trick motor with @230-235HP & 160 ft/lbs torque.10 to 20 Ft/lbs. More than the best Mazda or Toyota. But best Performance Per $/Per Reliability /Per Maintance$/Per Contingincy$,I think the playing field was pretty equil before the mazda was restricted, when your comparing the best available motor from each engine builder . The Mazda seems to be the best value to me,if your going to go out and buy the best of whatever power plant you choose.Even if its down power to the Toyota 250-265HP,140ft/lbs,down on torque to the VW 230,160ft/lbs.

Mazda chokes?
I noticed that in Fastrack the FA Mazda chokes were changed to 35 MM, does this apply to CSR?

Mazda Chokes
Formula Atlantic Rules Don't Generally Apply , But in fast Track at The Same Time Mazda too Was unfairly restricted to 34mm In C S/R.

Fastest C S/R
1800 VW Now Holds Mid-Ohio Race Lap Record 1.26.406 Quit belly-aching about Mazda, sort your car and start driving it.Go to some races. Quit complaining how fast someone else is,and get yourself faster . There is no reason anybody's C S/R , souldn't be faster than a D S/R.The latest rumor heard from ED Dickinson at Mid-Ohio was: it's common knowledge that Jacek Mucha's Mazda puts out over 300 HP and he's got the Dyno sheet to prove it.This is Crap . I've got the same engine builder , my last engine was 237 hp. Jacek has some tricks. But he's never beat my 237 hp on the track.I'll bet any takers $1,000.00 he's way closer to 237 than 300HP.Then again even if he did he's still never beaten me,Mazda or VW!!!!

OK you guys: Ben has made the challenge. Put up or shut up. Bill Meyer

Mazda Chokes & H.P.
237 HP Is with legal 34mm Chokes,a top notch bertils 1835cc VW engine can get 235-240 with 160ft/lbs. torque,10 more than mazdas 150ft/lbs.With 36 mm chokes my mazda had 247 HP with 150ft/lbs.the best toyota I've heard (from reliable sources)265HP with 140ft/lbs.

toyota
Ben, I think that the torque is a good number for the Toyota. Anything that makes 265HP should have torque in the 150's.
The engine in our car now makes 224 HP and 132 torque. Hoping to improve that some but I think 235 to 240 and 140 to 145 on the torque will be it.

Ted's Cosworth
Your numbers come from you & Bob's Dyno, it reads 8-10% less than Daryl's,probably the same with Bertils & Loynings, from figures Bob has told Me.So your Probably as strong as anybody.

power
Ben, Bob now has his own dyno and I have mine back (was on lease to Bob). Numbers from our dyno,s are as close to accurate as possible. We calibrate and dead weight often. I think your observation about driving and setup are right on the money. There is no substitue for track time!!! Corner exit speed will make up for a lot of shortfall in HP.
