Cataract op
Hi Everyone,
I telephoned Mr Jones's secreatary last week to find out when I would have my op. Apparently he has been off sick and has only just returned to work (I hope he is now much better and wish him good health in the future). She telephoned me today to say I should receive an appointment for the next pre-op assessment clinic (she thinks its 20th Feb). At that time I should be able to sort out the actual date for the op. Hopefully it should be soon after the 20th Feb.
Further to the cafe saga, the one at Manchester serves a decent hot chocolate (not tried the coffee). There is also a really good coffee bar across the road in the MRI building.
Hope the pre op assessment clinic includes the ultra sound measurements and it's all systems go from that point onwards. Not sure how it works on the NHS but I got the ultra sounds a few days to a week before the ops. Will they put in an IOL?
Think we're gathering material for a users guide to uveitis clinics here!
Re: Cataract op
Hi everyone
Letter arrived from Manchester Eye hospital this morning, my pre op assessment will definitely be on 20th Feb hopefully I'll have the op asap after that. Am I being over ambitious in hoping that my sight will improve after? At the moment everything is blurred in my left eye will the op make an improvemnt on this. I know the pupil will still be fixed and the 'holes' in the iris will still be there but I am hoping this op will make some improvemnt in my vision.
I saw my dentist yesterday who imformed that a very nasty outbreak of ulcers in my mouth is an auto-immune disease, everytime I get a new symptom I'm told its auto-immune but having been tested for HLA B27 it is negative and I dont understand what is going on. I have arthritis, ueveitis, had ulcerative colitis and now the dentist says these ulcers are auto-immune. Am I just unfortunate that I have lots of unrelated auto-immume diseases or should I be pressing for more answers?
Re: Cataract op
Janet,
I don't know if you are on IMT, but I think some of the drugs can cause mouth ulcers. Think you have to ask Mr Jones!
Good news about the op. Hope it's a swift progression from consultation to op.
I think if a cataract is big enough to take out, it will have significantly affected vision, unless vision has already been lost to another cause. Mr Jones is best placed to tell you what you can expect afterwards. My sight was hugely improved after mine.
Re: Cataract op
Hi everyone
Just a quick update. Went to assesment clinic this morning. Had lots of tests and the op is to take place very soon. I spoke with Mr. Jones and he confirmed he would be doing the op. for which I am really grateful (obviously I only want best available!). Will be have a GA and staying in over night.
Mr. J is fairly certain there will be an improvement in the glaring and ghosting I am having at the moment but I will be pleased with any improvemnt.
