After hitchiking most of her way from Xaviers and catching a ride on an empty cart of a frieght train she ended up, tired and feeling completley drained in Washington. She called Brad from a phone box just outside DC and had him come pick her up, her friends were more then happy to see her again, taking her home with them.
Nina managed to persuade Cat to stay with them untill she was feeling better, rather than the quick visit she'd expected to make. Manipulating a rather heartbroken Cat wasn't difficult, Nina wasn't being malicious she just wanted what she thought was best for her friend. Nina tired interogating her friend but Cat seemed reluctant to tell her what was wrong, but she managed to get the general gist that it was something to do with a man.
Both Nina and Brad were more than a little suprised at this sudden change in Cat, finding her to be quiet a lot of the time and pefering to be by herself than to spend time with Nina. The pair of them just redoubled their efforts to try and cheer her up.
June
Nina and Brad insisted on taking her to the beach to renew her fading tan, she always seemed a little more happy when she was down there. Though she couldn't help but remember that she was supposed to have gone on a beach ride with Riley and the others. Since her two freinds only work nites they had most of the day to try and cheer up their friend. She's become prone to sitting by her window if Nina and Brad arn't around, just staring out into space as if there is something she can see out there that the rest of them cannot.
Since they'd missed her birthday, her two friends bought her a guitar in the hopes of cheering her up, but she seems to have confined her tastes to sad songs. So much so that in the end Nina had to ask her to stop playing her guitar when Nina was home.
July
Brad managed to get Catherine a job behind the bar of the strip club where Nina dances and he works as a bouncer on the door. Cat wasn't thrilled at the idea at first but once she'd got her first nights pay she seemed to change her mind. She was a bit happier for the next few days as she dragged Nina around Washington looking for a bag, Nina pointed out hundreds of nice ones but Catherine knew the exact one she wanted and she wouldn't rest untill she'd found a plain little red one which was almost exactly the same as the one Lisa had leant her.
Getting home she put it in a large envelope, with a short letter adressed to Lisa which she got Nina to write, she put the necklace of Lisa's in there too which she'd accidently forgotten to leave behind for her. She also included another even shorter letter to Riley, she didn't let Nina see it, knowing her friend wouldn't let her send it if she knew there was a note to riley in it.
In the note she just said that she was alright, and that he should use the riding tickets Dawn had to go to the beach, she wanted to put so much more but the words didn't seem to want to come out. It would be a miracle if he could read her scrawled handwriting anyway. She wasn't sure how to end the letter, she wanted to put love Cat but in the end she settled for just the simple word Catherine.
August
Cat started talking of going back to Xaviers, it felt odd but she felt homesick and missed the school and above that she missed Riley. She wanted to go back or even write but she wasn't quite sure what to put. She told Nina she'd be leaving at the end of the month but her freind seemed to get distressed over the idea of Cat leaving before the end of October since it was Nina's birthday then and she'd been planning on a large group of them going out to celebrate.
Cat: Do you think I should go back?
Nina: Cat.. he's only a man.
Cat: You don't understand...
