Christopher Smith(if i dont do this she's gonna throttle me)
pretty much cut and paste from SD, few minor enforced adjustments by the almighty one who makes me put effort into things xD
Name: Christopher Smith
Nickname: Goes by Chris most of the time
Code Name: None
Affiliation: occasionally aligned with the watchers council should they require his services, otherwise Chris tends to work alone from his Warehouse base in the industrial area of the city
Gender: Male
Age: 31
Birthday: June 12
Hair: Short Black
Eyes: Once brown they are now white with dark scarring.
Height: 5’10”
Weight: 11ST
Parents: Both dead both human Robert and Joan Smith
Other Important Relatives/People in their lives: Jonathan, After the death of his parents Chris was taken in by his fathers best friend and colleague, since then he has come to see him as part of his family, whilst Jonathan could never replace Chris’ father he made a damn fine uncle.
Physical Description: Chris is quite Tall with short dark hair and he tends to wear black clothing. Normally has an armoured vest on, offering protection against bullets and stabbing whilst fighting, this is accompanied by Combat trousers usually with large belt a back mounting for his sword, heavy steel plated boots and gloves... Also a long jacket to conceal most of this
oh and wears something to cover his eyes at all times, a black or red cloth mostly.
Erm… wonders how to put this… he’s black (sod political correctness lol) being from England he does have an English accent but does not seem to have a regional accent, his voice relatively slow, purposeful and commanding.
To see him on the street during the day it is as if he is a normal blind person, he moves quite slowly and uses a white stick, thus assisting in the illusion that he is harmless, many have fallen into this trap. Fighting is a different matter
Although whilst fighting he moves fluidly as if he can see perfectly well, his face is rarely turned towards the opponent, instead his head remaining rather immobile most of the time unless avoiding a blow.
Powers:
Chris was a telepath originally, using his powers of mind reading to give him an edge over enemies in all situations. He was able to read thoughts and deliver messages through the minds of others.
Since becoming blind however Chris has learnt how to see in other ways, using his telepathy as a means of locating people or demons, because of the way he uses his power he has all but lost the power to read thoughts as the telepathy is being controlled in a different way. He does however have very good perception of an opponent’s next move in combat situations, the close proximity of his enemy making it easier for him to detect any thoughts that may be passing through their mind at the time without impairing his ‘sight’
As another bi product of this, Chris’ remaining senses have become heightened and they too can aid in overcoming his loss of sight, his hearing is much better than a normal persons and can detect movement over distance, the sound waves bouncing off objects and relaying a rough picture of the surrounding terrain. Also since being blinded chris has learnt to pay attentiojn to his other senses a lot more and to make use of things people have yet never pay much attention to, and example of this is the useage of his sense of smell, whilst it has not exceeded beyond that of a normal human by paying more attention to it he is easily able to pick up things anyone else would miss. for example if given time he could be able to tell you the ingredients of a soup from detecting the different scents involved, whilst this is not an exact science it is definately helpful.
After his loss of sight Chris’s body was weakened in such a way that he had to rebuild most of his strength, and with nothing else to do with his time in darkness he spent hours and hours a day building his strength. The outcome of this is that he is well built and stronger than before, his reflexes are not too bad either.
Chris is adept in a variety of weapons and fighting style, able to adapt them to suit the needs of a particular situation, an accomplished gymnast, and a master swordsman. His skill with a blade is impressive to both watch and spar with, every movement of the weapon fluid and purposeful. When fighting with a sword it is his aim to only have to land one strike on the opponent, and each swing is as if building up to that killer blow.
**Note: ok i dont seem to have it written in this bio so i'm sticking here for laziness sakes.
When chris is fighting in close proximity to an opponent his sound navigation is all but switched off, and the radius of his minds detection of objects is greatly reduced in order for him to focus on his current opponent effectively, thus meaning that if somone were to stand a good distance away from him whilst fighting there is greatly reduced chance that (whilst he would still know they were there) he would be able to predict their movements or detect if they are friend or foe. to do this he would have to in a sense swith off his combat perception in order to widen his detection radius.....

History:
Originally from England his father was a watcher, but he was brought up away form that as much as possible for as long as they could, He was good at school and became quite popular, making friends quite easily. But inevitably the question about what daddy did at work soon came into things, the young Chris intrigued by all the books and papers his father read regularly, and the bedtime stories of strange creatures were all too much to just ignore.
From an early age he developed a telepathic ability, being able to detect other peoples thoughts and feelings, this was not known to his parents and as he grew older it appeared to fade out, he was not too worried about it though as he was so young and did not know what was going on anyway, just that sometimes he heard things that were not said, he assumed it was just something from his bedtime stories talking to him.
His curiosity on the world around was fed on a nightly basis before his father went out to work… his mother kept saying that it was too dangerous to go alone, Chris was intrigued as to what his father could be doing of an evening. All too soon however he found out. At the age of 9 he sneaked out of the house and followed his father as best he could. Upon his mother realising he was gone she frantically left the house in search of him.
And that was the mistake that cost his parents their lives. His father was tracking a particularly nasty demon, and had cornered it in a woodland clearing; Chris hiding nearby was terrified by the mere noise of the beast. But the voice of his mother could be heard calling for him, distracting his father for a moment and allowing the creature to attack. It was over in seconds, and the beast moved on to the source of the voice, to Chris’ horror he watched both his parents being torn to pieces by a demon before help arrived in the form of his fathers colleagues. It was now that Chris vowed to himself that he would one day exact revenge upon the creature.
Taken into the care of one of his father’s friends and fellow watcher called Jonathan it was near on impossible to hide the truth from the young Chris… demanding to know what had happened and what the creature was. He was taken out of school and taught at home by Jonathan, though was encouraged not to follow in his fathers footsteps work wise. To begin with he was happy to agree to this, not really wanting to end up the same way, and got a number of small jobs when he was old enough but none of which were interesting enough for him to want to stay on longer than a few months.
But all the while he trained himself in secret, learning from his fathers and Jonathan’s books about demons and their habits. It was also at this time that the telepathic ability that he had experienced whilst younger surfaced itself again, but once more he did not pay much attention to it, and rather than training his abilities he just let the slip. At age 19 he started to follow Jonathan as he had done his father the night he had died, only this time he joined in, much to Jon’s annoyance, Though he was quite good at it.
By 21 he had finally gotten a job that kept him happy during the day, as a security guard at a busy shopping centre. Though it did not satisfy him as much as his nightime activities, wandering the streets he patrolled during the day and picking off the lesser demons and vampires, though for the first few years until he was 24 he left anything large until he had assistance… no need to put himself in too much peril.
Although whilst at school he had many friends, after his parents death Chris lost contact with them as he was only nine years old, and he somewhat lost the ability to make new ones, and he steered clear of relationships, believing them to be the weakness that caused his parents death. Life continued like this right up until he was 27, when his demon hunting finally caught up with him… in a big way.
Working in conjunction with the council Chris was hunting a rather nasty creature called Malekith… nicknamed the destroyer by the demon community, at first all went well, he tracked the demon to its lair and a fight ensued… that is where it went wrong. During his tracking he had lost his backup in a built up area and only a few seconds into the fight it became clear to him (and probably Malekith) that Chris was severely overpowered by the 8-foot armour plated killing machine. However he continued to give it his best, to no avail.
And so Malekith decided to send a message to the council that he did not appreciate them sending demon hunters his way, and that same night he delivered what remained of Chris to the people who were supposed to be helping him at the time. A bruised and bloodied mess he was taken at speed to the nearest hospital where his injuries were said to have been due to a road accident involving his motorcycle and a truck.
Almost all his ribs were cracked or fractured, his left arm was broken, both his legs were fractured, his right shoulder was broken, his right wrist and hand was shattered, he had suffered multiple cuts and heavy bruising to his entire body, lost a lot of blood and his face had been damaged so much that saving his eyesight was just not an option. After stabilising his condition the reconstructive process could begin, setting most of the broken bones was not too much of a problem, all except his right hand and wrist. The damage they had sustained was far to great… and most of his bone had to be replaced or pinned to the extent that his right hand is mostly metal and has lost some wrist and finger articulation… but on the plus side gained a handy weapon
Chris was devastated, and all through his recovery he just wished he had died. In hospital the only visits he had were from Jonathan, but they were few and far between, his life had all but ended now there was nothing to live for any more. Time passed slowly in the hospital, but as it wore on and he lay in complete encompassing darkness unable to move he began to hear the thoughts of people once more… this time however he was not about to ignore it, for if he concentrated enough he could pinpoint roughly where they were coming from.
He finally had some light at the end of the tunnel, and with nothing else to do for months on end Chris concentrated on this telepathy, honing his skills towards using it to see. Although it was not sustainable constantly the picture he could gain from using his minds eye was near perfect, all be it a colourless world, but to him it was a lifesaver, he no longer had to rely on other people to survive. His recovery progressed, without his sight his other senses began to enhance themselves, sound became another way of detecting his surroundings, the sound waves bouncing of objects and giving him another colourless picture of the world around. Smells became greater, and more defined, he learnt how to tell the difference between them as well.
By the time he was allowed to leave the hospital alone Chris was able to see his surroundings quite well, his skills only needing a little refreshing every now and again, though with his mind using its power concentrated on seeing things it was unable to make out peoples thoughts unless they were in such a close proximity to him that it was not worth bothering with. All that was needed was to rebuild his strength properly; the time lying in a hospital bed had weakened him to such a point that he was barely able to lift his weight with his arms, even after extensive physiotherapy.
After 6 months of training and reconditioning he had only one thing on his mind… revenge. Seeking out Malekith Chris paid him a little visit, almost two years of pent up frustration were taken out on the demon before he struck the killer blow, revenge was served.
Since then Chris was unable to continue his day job, instead working as a demon hunter at nights, aiding the council occasionally and living on the move. In his native England he managed to build a reputation amongst the demon hunting community for his merciless destruction of the dark forces.
As he travelled around hunting Chris researched on the creature that killed his parents, most of the time his investigations brought up another dead end but occasionally he managed to glean some information from the demonic minions before they died. The whereabouts of the creature were unknown, he had been tracked down and imprisoned by a coven of witches not too long after the night of Chris parents demise, that would have satisfied the hunter, but it also turned out that the creature had somehow been freed of his prison and was once again at large, though in a weakened form.
But soon enough his services were not needed in England, as the watchers council became less and less involved with Chris, and for a long time even Jonathan lost contact with the majority of them. Eventually rumours of a watcher starting anew in America began to drift their way, and Jonathan organised some of those he had remained in contact with to join this newly forming council. Chris decided to tag along as defence, only he got waylaid on the way and did not arrive until after they had already joined up with the new council.
Arriving in America Chris found a suitable place to stay, a large open warehouse being the ideal spot for him, as there were few walls to hinder the sound waves, having devices installed for security around the place, and a training area on the lower floor. His first outing in the area making a name for himself amongst a few local vamps… not that they had a chance to repeat his name before he came for them as well.
It pleased Chris greatly to gain some valuable information as to the demon he had been tracking for many years, the creature that had murdered his parents (and apparently sent malekith on his mission) resided within the city. The hunt was on, this would be no ordinary hunt neither, the creature was far too strong even in his weakened state to take on without prior preparation.
His time in America so far has been spent scopeing out the area, and watching over those he feels need protection from afar. He has not made his presence fully known yet as Chris feels his time is better spent in the shadows, not that he can tell day from night by conventional methods.
Although he is known by and originally intended to meet up with the Watchers council at some point Chris decided to leave it for a while in case any demons were following him over, feeling that there was no need to give the new council any more problems. Instead of this he has begun to establish himself in his new home by setting up a training area and overseeing the installation of some security devices.
Personality:
before loosing his sight Chris was a relatively normal person, although he had a strange line of work he did not actively seek out danger in normal life, he had a few friends and during daylight hours he had a job as a security guard. But when he lost his sight he also lost quite a bit of his will to live at first. He became irrational, building himself up so as he was stronger than before, but this gave way as he trained his mind, a process requiring a lot of meditation and deep concentration.
The suicidal urge to go and confront the creatures that took his sight subsided, replaced instead with a feeling that he had nothing to lose now, instead of wanting to die he merely accepted it as something that was bound to happen eventually. Resigned to this fact he lost all feelings of fear towards anything, not able to see an opponent made it easier for him to ignore size/horrific ness of the creature he faced. He no longer cares for his own well-being but will not make it easy for anyone or anything to kill him, the opposite in fact.
He makes little friends, the only reason being that he does not want them to end up dead because of who he is, after his sight was taken he lost contact with everyone he knew before, and is believed dead by most of them. in place of his old friends he has built up a collection of new allies, demon hunters, general mystics, clerics and others who delve into the mystical and supernatural.
Chris has a variety of weapons and instruments in his possession to deal with the demonic and otherworldly, ranging from the simple sword and dagger to relics and idols. Although sometimes limited he has a few books translated to Braille, though a lot more information has been commited to his memory. he will never have everything with him, usually the fight is assessed beforehand and prepared for accordingly, though some things never change, he is always equipped with his sword, at least 2 stun charges, throwing knives in his right boot and a protection talisman (meant to protect against Magical spells and effects… probably does nothing, but he’s never had any cause to doubt it)
Re: Christopher Smith(if i dont do this she's gonna throttle
History:
Ok, this is not *really* relevant but I'm curious anyway: why did his father go out there on his own? A watcher's job is either to sit around somewhere and read texts or train a slayer. He may go and help the slayer in, well, slaying things, but usually he doesn't go and try to kill demons on his own. Beeecause unlike slayers, watchers normally don't have superhuman abilities that put them on a level with demons.
But anyway, as I said, it's not really important for Chris as a character...
What I'm also wondering about is why the demon that had mutilated him was easy game on the second attempt, with a non-human mind etc.... even with more physical exercise, shouldn't it at least have been equally hard?
Powers/Abilities:
Hmm... technically, he's not overpowered, so I wouldn't *insist* on a change but realistically speaking, I must say that the telepathic perception of people, the acoustic detection of objects *and* a supernaturally heightened sense of smell is a tad much. ..so I would *prefer* if you changed it a little.
See, if his mutation were like Wolverine's (i.e. animal instincts etc.), it'd all make perfect sense (and be on the banned list... XD) - but we can assume here that his actual mutant ability is telepathy (which as well is technically banned, but we'll forget about that for a moment simply because he doesn't actually *read* minds/emotions).
Now, this ability has been pending between latent, dormant and active but weak all his life, so he can't exactly be called a powerful telepath. If he were that, he wouldn't have been able to just ignore/not really feel the loss of that power. It follows that training this 6th sense, as we may call it, would have taken up quite some brain capacity, likely as much as visual sight. And it also partly made up for the loss of visual perception.
The reason why, upon the loss of one sense, one or possibly two (though that seems to be pretty rare) senses seem to evolve beyond what's normal for humans is that there is suddenly unused brain capacity (as there are no longer incoming signals from that specific sense) AND there is a need to balance out that loss in order to stand a chance of surviving.
Technically speaking, however, Chris's telepathic localisation of people replaces the "free slot". Granted it's not as if he had suddenly developed that ability without it having been there before, but I'm pretty sure that "normally", his brain would neither have the resources nor really bother to enhance two senses this far beyond what is normal without a little help from the X-gene.
Bottom line: three ways of perceiving things beyond the limits of homo sapiens sapiens are a touch much and you may want to rethink one of them. I'd recommend kicking out the heightened smelling.
Alternatively, you could include a weakness that could add an interesting twist to his newfound abilities: what if in order to know what's going on around him, he needs to sort of "hijack" another person's mind, see through their eyes? Not in the sense that he can control them or anything, more like taking a backseat... external sight. Since it wouldn't be permanent, he could keep his heightened hearing to be able to navigate - but I'd definitely make it less strong than that of DareDevil... to stress the difference.
Also, I do think he shouldn't *always* be able to predict the enemy's next move but rather *sometimes*. I'm not sure how you planned on playing this so... just wanted to point that one out.
Sooo... generally, he's
but I really would like a revision of his powers... feel free to discuss things on MSN.
For everyone comes the time when they have to take over responsibility. It stands to argue whether there is also a time when they can get rid of it again.
Chris Smith
ok, your suggestions are fair enough i'll look into them as soon as i get the chance, as for some of your questions...
not all watchers have slayers hanging round them all hours of the day, he didnt have a slayer charge and one wasnt avaliable so in cases such as that why not go out after it himself, possibly a stupid mistake but an easy enough one to make.
second attempt Chris had built himself up to be better than his first attmept, that and a greater preparation and resolve, possibly some better weaponry makes for an easier fight.
Re: Christopher Smith(if i dont do this she's gonna throttle
ok this is the revised version, i'll have to check for anomolies with the historty but i've changed the powers and added a sample taken from an SD post so his abilities in combat have an example

Although sometimes limited he has a few books translated to Braille, though a lot more information has been commited to his memory. he will never have everything with him, usually the fight is assessed beforehand and prepared for accordingly, though some things never change, he is always equipped with his sword, at least 2 stun charges, throwing knives in his right boot and a protection talisman (meant to protect against Magical spells and effects… probably does nothing, but he’s never had any cause to doubt it)
Ok seeing as there is possible need of seeing how he uses some of his power this is a post from SD, it should help a little
Without looking towards the creature he gauged its stance as it mirrored his own, a few changes though which gave him the distinct impression that this beast knew a few things itself, luckily for the blind hunter however over a decade of fighting and near three decades of training had taught him that no matter what style someone was using and how they varied it there were ways and means to combat anything, even himself.
The standoff lasted a few moments but there was no way that Chris would break it himself, no if the creature was going to fight him then it would have to make the first move, fight on Chris’ terms… not its own. And with a roar it did just that, moving quickly across the street with just a couple of bounds to come into fighting range of the blind hunter.
As it approached the roar did little to put Chris off, instead the sound assisted his view of the creature as it moved, his mind sight radius narrowed in on the creature as the fighting began. This meant that the only way that he could see the surroundings was from sounds, but the sounds of their fighting would compensate for that… along with the other noises of the surroundings.
This narrowing of his mind sight allowed the other capabilities to kick in, predicting the creature’s moves from its own thoughts, not that he was able to read its thoughts for that was not how his mind had been trained, it just gave good hints. And right now it was hinting that there were two attacks on their way towards him… the first directed towards his midsection, the second at his head.
The split second decision of his reaction was as much logic as it were instinct, a blow to the body would be absorbed by his bullet proof armour, one to the head would be devastating by such a powerful creature. To this effect the left hook was mostly ignored as far as blocking was concerned, connecting quickly and sharply the blow was predicted and braced for, causing only superficial damage to the hunter as his extended arm moved like lighting to deflect the creatures leg harmlessly back before it could contact with his head.
Still not looking towards the creature Chris spun a roundhouse kick towards the creatures body, landing the foot to the floor and spinning again, this time a backwards kick with his right foot. They were only feint’s building up to the final move, never really meant to connect the beast rather than put iot on the back foot, any contact was a bonus, his blindfold flowing as he gracefully span.
Directly after the second kick came one of his favourite moves, whilst the other two kicks were dummies this was a guaranteed hit. Turning again as if to land another left footed kick to the creatures mid section he slowed it right down, allowing the Wolf to catch the foot and using the beasts own body as leverage, spinning and lifting himself upwards and around the creature, his right boot kicking heavily into the back of the creatures neck and using the momentum of the move to land on the ground a distance behind it.
He was now facing away from the beast, something that was rectified quickly by regaining his former posture, though the attack had been to some point a success the creature had dealt him a rather hefty blow to the stomach still, the pain from its first attack subdued by his adrenaline. This was the way it would have to be though against such a powerful creature, pick and chose what to block and what to brace for, it was a skill that had kept him alive against such opponents in the past, normally with his sword dealing the killer blow.
But this time it was slightly different, there was another to be brought into the equation… the victim of the creatures attack needed to be protected throughout any brawling to occur, he was determined that no one was going to die tonight…
