City Streets and Buildings - dramatic entrance
CHRIS
the silence was broken by the sound of someone running, their feet thudding upon the tarmac, as thay rounded the corner it became clear that it was a vampire. He ran down the street occasionally checking behind him, as he got about halfway down, the distinctive rumble of a motorbike engine could be heard. Out of the darkness it emerged, its lights off, screeching round the corner.
In a matter of seconds it caught up with the vampire, the rider overtaking him and stopping. Slowly Chris dismounted and advanced on the vampire. “varios”, he said, his voice slow and angry. The vampire had now stopped running and was reaching for a pole, which was lying on the ground nearby “reaper” he answered, “so nice to see you again”, he continued sarcastically.
Suddenly he charged, swinging the pole as he did so, but instead of hitting Chris as he had intended, it was met by a sword. “You didn’t think that would work” Chris said laughingly as he swung the sword, making the pole clatter uselessly against a wall to one side, “now” he said “you die”, with a swift motion, he sliced the vampire’s head clean off, it bounced on the floor before turning to dust.
Chris turned round to his bike to see that another three vampires had gathered a little way off down the road “I can see this town is gonna be fun” he said reaching into his coat and drawing what looked to be a pistol.
the vampire at the head of the group started walking slowly towards him "and what do you think youre going to do with that" it said mockingly. "Well i thought i was going to bake a cake" chris replied sarcasticly, pointing it at the vampire, it snarled "lets get...." it did not manage to finish what it was saying before it turned to dust, the other two meerely stood in shock. "are you just going to stand there" chris asked "cos that would take the fun out of killing you", one of them turned to the other, before they both charged, one wielding a chain.
chris stood there as they advanced, when they came close, he drew a long dagger with his free hand, decapitaing one of them, and then stabbing the other in the chest. the remaining vampire staggered back holding the dagger that was still inserted in its ribcage. chris replaced the pistol and walked up to the contorting vampire, he reached out a gloved hand and pulled the dagger out "congratulations" he said wiping the dagger on the vampires coat "you're my thousandth kill" he grabbed it by the neck and lifted it off the floor "or you will be" he laughed "that dagger was poisoned, you'll be dead in a few hours" he dropped the vampire down again "so run along and tell any leaders you may have that they are no longer the power around town" he watched as the vampire ran off down the street, he had planted a tracker on it, it would lead him right to its leaders.
he picked up his harley and slowly pushed it down the road "now for somewhere to stay" he said looking around him
MATT
The light framed body of Matt Rosenberg dropped from a nearby tree, he had watched as this newcomer had enetered this forsaken town with all the intent on getting himself killed. He himself hadn't been here that long but he knew how to keep out of people's ways and get along with no intrusion, for now that was.
Matt walked slowly towards the man who stood in the road, light whisps of dust dancing in the air about him from the destroyed Vampires;
"You carry on like that and your going to get yourself killed my friend. Oh, don't worry I am not going to attack you, i have no reason to, but after that performance the Vampires that rule this town arn't going to be happy. One man can't save this town from what overules it."
Matt spoke quietly, his voice carrying clearly over the still dark air around them. The endless night left a constant chill to the air, Matt was used to it, he had even been able to try an accilmatise himself slightly with a couple of spells. But he still didn't know what he was doing in this town, most of his kind had been killed, except for one he knew of, one he had seen and seeked for a long time, but even she had changed to something he didn't know.....
CHRIS
chris turned to face this guy who dared to challenge him "from what i have seen, the vampires of this town have as much chance of killing me as you have of getting a suntan" he said eyeing up the man who stood before him. "and on the matter of upsetting the leaders of these....scum" he paused "that is an acceptable risk".
he let go of the bike and stepped towards the man "I am Reaper" he said loudly, it echoed off the walls "in england that would strike fear into the still heart of any vampire that heard it, however i do agree, alone i can only kill most of the evil rulers around" he stopped, realising he did not know what side this guy was on "so where do you stand, evil, or good?" he readied himself to grab his sword just in case the answer did not suit him
MATT
Matt's long black coat drapped over his frame as he looked into the eyes of this 'Reaper'. He was arrogant, unknowledgable, for once Matt's affinity with books was to his advantage;
"I am neither, not good, not evil, you can just call me Matt." Matt noticed the readiness this newcomer had towards his sword. "Oh, by anymeans, take your sword, i will not fight you."
He looked deeply into the eyes of Reaper, his dark brown eyes piercing the other man's;
"Your arrogance and lack of knowledge is going to get you killed, and I can assure you the three that are of these parts will make sure its a long and painful death.
I am sure you have heard of Angelus, Spike and Drusilla, in fact they come from your end of the world don't they. Well, welcome to there humble abode, Lost Angels is there personal playground and everyone here, their playthings.
If you are going to survive you should come with me, I know enough about this place to get you up to speed, you might be 'odd' but i can see your strengths. But please, don't try anything. I will take you to my home, well, its more of a room, but no one knows of it, no one that matters anyway. From there we can contact someone I know who is a little 'stake happy' like you seem to be.
You don't have to come with me, but I can assure you you have more of a chance with me at the moment, that Vamp will return ur message.".....
CHRIS
chris smiled slightly, he liked this 'matt', especially his dress sense, he disliked the 'lack of knowlede though, he had spent years studiying demons, ways of killing them, and he knew some spells himself. "i have long dreamed of killing those three" he said "i will come with you".
he noticed something moving in the darkness of a doorway up the street, he grabbed his bike and flicked on the headlight, its beam illuminating the shape of a vampire, but as the light touched it it began to burn up and dissapeared in a cloud of dust, he turned back to matt "UV, vamps cant stand it, looks like the welcomes arrived" he pulled his pistol from inside his long black leather jacket "shall we ride?"
MATT
Matt looked around at the Vampires as they emerged from hiding, it was getting to dangerous and this Reaper was the problem. Quickly he pulled out a piece of paper and a pen and wrote the name of a road on it, and passed it to Reaper;
"Listen, I can't be seen with you, like I said, im not alligned to any faction and it would not be in my best interests to be seen with a Vampire Killer. Take this, ill meet you here, just go to the road, ill find you, make sure your not followed."
Matt pivoted on his foot and ran into the shadows from wenst he came, leaving Reaper to deal with the remaining Vamps, he knew that his arogant bloke would be able to look after himself.....
CHRIS
Chris smiled as matt ran off, the thought of not having to share the fight was a welcome one to him. he reahed into his top pocket with his right hand and produced a pair of dark glasses, normally this would be strange in a darkened world, but these had built in image enhancers.
he mounted his bike, firing on the advancing group as he did so, killing four of them before his weapon ran out of ammo with a mettalic click. "Damn" he said removing and looking at the empty clip, he dropped it onto the floor and replaced the pistol into its holster. by this time the vamps were close enough to cause him a real problem on foot, he was outnumbered.
giving up on the fighting he started his bike, and drawring his sword, accelerated into the group of vampires, slicing as he passed through, the sanctified blade burning those it touched, leaving a few of them thrashing about in a cloud of smoke and dust. a little way up the road he skidded to a halt, turning his bike to face the group, he replaced his sword into its back mounted scabbard and reached to his belt, removing one of the grenades clipped there. he pulled the pin but still held the clip so it did not go off. gunning the engine he rode towards the group, slightly dissipated now as several had run for cover upon seeing him return, as he gos close he released the clip, and on passing the group he dropped the grenade and sped off down the road.
a couple of seconds later a roaring explosion could be heard, the ground shaking with the force of it, as chris looked over his shoulder he could see the vampires becoming engulfed by the fireball, one of them being caught by the shockwave and flung into the air, shooting towards him as it turned to dust.
*later*
far away from the incident chris reached the road specified on the paper that Matt had given him, it had taken him a while to find. he pulled up on one side of the road and dismounted his bike, the place seemed deserted, unlike his home town, it was generally full of people going about their lives, even in these dark times. after all they had nothing to fear, the order patrolled the streets guarding their headquarters. he walked around slowly, kicking litter as he went, no one had followed him, he had made sure of that. he still wore the glasses, they picked out any people or demons around, it was a precaution in case he was ambushed. under he flickering light of a streetlamp the tatoo on his forhead was visible, a winged sword, symbol of his order, partially covered by his steel shoulder protectors a bite mark was visible on his neck, product of the night his parent were killed. the shoulder protectors went over his coat and up most of his neck either side joined at the middle by a metal hinge at the back and a clasp at the front, his coat flicked round him in the slight breeze.
MATT
As Reaper stood in the breeze, the air that danced around him briskly increased and suddenly infront of him the air thickened and small sparks of electricity ran through the emptry space ahead of him. And as if from nowhere the air thickened into the form of Matt. His face alert, checking no one was around to see him.
Matt's gaze fell upon Reaper. "We have little time, something big is happening and it could be dangerous to be seen out in the open, quickly, come with me."
Matt walked straight passed Reaper and into a small alleyway that led to what seemed to be a dead end, littered with cradboard and trash that had escaped the open road. He grabbed at a large sheet of metal and pulling it back revealed a small opening large enought to crawl through. Dropping to his hands and knees Matt gestured for Reaper to follow behind him.
Throught the gap the two emerged into a fairly small room. Every wall was covered with bookcase's. Either containg books with title's such as 'Summoning the Dark Forces' and 'Advanced Spells to Improve Yourself' Anywhere a book wasn't odd looking items were. there were orbs and ingrediants that were used when Matt had to perform physical rituals. In one corner of the room was a single sofa, which doubled as Matt's bed. Next to it was a small table with a single wodden chair next to it. Matt saw as Reaper noticed the isolation that this room ment;
"I don't get many visitors, I have managed to stay here unnoticed for nye on three moths now, I have collected what I could. Luckily this is generally a Vamp free area, and they never come down this alley anyway, welcome to my home. Now, we have things to discuss, you'll be in look for the Slayer, she's the one you need."
Matt walked away and grabbed a large book which had been scribbled through by himself, a record of his life since his escape of his old life. He sat down at the table and opened it, brushing off the cob webs that had formed on it while he had been out. He studied the book closely, occasionally flipping a couple of pages.
"Sorry, I won't be a minute, listen if you want a drink or anything, theres stuff over there." Matt pointed to the remaining corner of the room which contained a cupboard, a sink and a fridge without looking up from his book.....
CHRIS
Chris looked around the small room wondering how any normal person could live like this, it would be alright for someone like himself though. "the slayer" he said "you mean the one who failed to stop angellus causing this problem in the first place, yes i would like to meet her, i have questions from my order"
he walked over to one of the shelves and picked up one of the books "protection spells", he flicked through the pages briefly before putting it back on the shelf "i know a few spells myself" he said looking over some other books "however i do not rely on their usage too much".
his sentence was cut short by his watch alarm going off, the low bleeping echoeing in the enclosed space he deactivated the alarm with his other hand "excuse me" he said as he produced a small case from inside his coat, he opened it producing a strange looking syringe, he pressed it to his arm and touched a button on the side, it gave off a small hiss. he replaced the syringe and put the case back into his coat. "medication" he said to matt who had peered over at him, "dont want to die on the job now do i"
MATT
"Ummm, well, no i guess you wouldn't" Matt said glancing up at the man. He quickly got back to his book, healf watching Reaper to check he didn't touch or tamper with anything else in the room.
"Well, I wouldn't go provoking this one, shes strong, but fighting three of the strongest Vampires around is hard work. What you saw out there, they are small fry, minions of the three."
Matt turned the page of his scribbled note book and found what he was looking for;
"Ah, ok, here's the last known base of the Slayer that I know of. Your lucky, it's not to far from here, but it may be better to lay low for a while until the Vampires give up for now. You've managed to get yourself in a bit of a predicament and you have only been here for five minute."
Matt pulled another piece of paper out from underneath another pile of books next to him and scribbled down the place that the Slayer had last been known to stay.
"If she is not there, then her Watcher should be. But i did hear of something big taking place in the graveyard not long ago, so you may have to wait a while before they return."
Matt got back up and slotted the book back into a position on a shelf above the table where he had got it from and turned back to Reaper.
"So, what exactly are you doing here in Lost Angels? It's not exactly the vacation hot spot is it." Matt asked. "People don't often arrive here that arn't farmed." He said quietly under his breath as he thought about his entrance to Lost Angels and the devistating news he found out.....
CHRIS
Chris took the paper and looked it over quickly,he didnt like the idea of laying low while there were still vampires roaming the streets, hiding just wasn't his style.
"i came for the sun, or more to the point to find out why this catastrophy was allowed to happen" he replied to matts question, by catastrophy he meant both the suns blackening and the fact that the orders finest was forced to hide in a cellar. "my sole purpose in life is to defend the innocent, protect the world and destroy evil. my order has for years kept the ballance of good and evil, we have worked with slayers before succesfully but after theyre gone we have to maintain the ballance alone again" he paused, walking slowly around whilst talking "for countless generations we have cleaned up one slayers mess after another, and although they do an exelent job, they are can not be in more than one place at a time whereas our agents can be in many different countries hindering many an evil plan. i have been sent here under orders to find the cause of this problem and do what the slayer obviously is incapable of", he paused again to let Matt take in what he just said.
he stopped then realised what matt had said "farmed" he said raising his eyebrow in a questioning manner
MATT
Matt looked quizically at Reaper, this strange illusive man seemed to think he could single-handedly take on the rest of the demon world, but Matt knew that wasn't possable, and that meeting the Slayer would be his best chance to fight;
"Well, as i said, go to that address (Matt pointed at the scrap of paper he had scribbled on) the Slayer and her allies should be found there, that was the last place they were known.
But now we must go, you must find who you need and i must see someone, so if you please."
Matt gestured toward the small gap that constituted a doorway and lead Reaper to it, the small room seemed larger as he bent down to peel the sheet metal away and allow Reaper and himself to leave;
"I wish you luck on your journey, but i must say i do not hold out to much hope, your kind seem quite ignorant to the threat that opposes us here." Matt spoke truthfully but without conviction.....
CHRIS
"the threat that opposes you is upon us all, how we deal with it is our own choice, i am confident because i trust my skills and my sword, if i did not then i might be more afraid of the demon world that is around us" he replied to matt as he crawled out of the room and into the alleyway
"I also have faith that this nightmare will end. The order is only small now, but it can still hold its own in the world, if i should fail in my task or die before its completion there will be agents swarming this town to do it for me" this was directed at no one in particular as he walked over to where he had left his bike and mounted it. He started the engine and took a last look towards Matt "good luck with your search, i expect you shall see me again, my name's Chris, only those who i do not know or trust and my enemies call me Reaper" he said before pulling away and dissapearing down the alleyway leaving a trail of smoke from the squealing tires as he sped off
