Re: Clarification:What brand fuel to use for Mazda's?
My understanding is that you probably won't have any problems using the same fuel you used last year. I know the rotaries meet a less stringent standard because of the oil in the gas. I have to mix a little oil in my gas because of the mechanial metering unit (1/200), and Sven Pruett told me I should have no problems at all meeting the standard tests, so I'd bet you're okay.

does that mean the premium unleaded fuel?
I just run premium unleaded from Mobil. Should that be cool?

Re: does that mean the premium unleaded fuel?
I don't believe ANY of the unleaded fuels will pass the test. Only leaded racing fuels have a chance of passing. Even then, you need to have your fuel tested to determine that you have enough margin for it to be compliant (this is much like weighing your car on the event scales, to make sure you'll be a few pounds over -- not right on the minimum weight). The meter/fuel have a variance of +/-.4 on the DC reading, so I would suggest that you want a fuel that tests at least -.4 on the SCCA meter.

Unless you change fuel brands, you probably don't need to have it tested every weekend, but I would suggest that every competitor understand where their current fuel tests, before they are found illegal.

Everybody points you to the HDE website with the list of fuels, but I still think you should have your own fuel tested by an SCCA meter to be sure.

So what brands should be OK?
Guy's I need some Names of brands and types. Just venting, but this fuel business is total BS. What I need is to change from 1.50 fuel to 4.00 fuel right? What a great deal, those comp guys are really looking out for the average guy racer.

Re: So what brands should be OK?
We use 76 Competition 110, and it has tested legal everytime.

I hope you can get it in your area.

so Basically any racing fuel will pass
I know there are some 100 octane unleaded use in hopped up street cars. do you think that would pass with premix oil? Also how much are you paying for the 110 octane?

Re: so Basically any racing fuel will pass
Any LEADED racing fuel (without special additives) is likely to pass. As I said before, the ONLY way to be sure is to have the fuel you would like to use TESTED.

I suspect your UNLEADED fuel (even with oil pre-mix) will fail, but the only way to know for sure is to have it tested.

Relying in the advice of others is a bad idea. If you want to make sure your car is legal, you need to have valid measurements of it's components (fuel, vehicle weight, track dimensions, etc). Just because somebody says it's legal holds very little weight with most Stewards.

Cost of 76 Competition 110
We pay between $3.75 (55 gal drum purchased from local distrubutor) and $5 per gallon (at track price).

Fuel
The cost of fuel in the race length you have is very insignificant to the cost of racing.

THE COST OF FUEL "is very insignificant"
Sure spend more money on fuel, let see thats only about another $125 for the weekend "INSIGNIFICANT", I guess the cost of entry fees is also INSIGNIFICANT so I guess I'll just give the SCCA another 100 bucks cause its so INSIGNIFICANT, (and they need the money for pro racing). Also I think I will just give GoodYear another 100 bucks for tires cause its so INSIGNIFICANT. I think that the brake pads and rotors I use up are pretty INSIGNIFICANT, I think I should pay more for those too. There must be some other INSIGNIFICANT expenses I can pay more for. I think I should pay more for gloves next time I need new ones. I could pay more for my SCCA member ship cause its INSIGNIFICANT. Maybe I should just ask my customers to pay me more cause it just a little INSIGNIFICANT increase. Unfortunately I am not a trust fund baby. You dont seem to get it. "Just make them pay more they spend so much any way" is pure BS. Soon you will have a club not made up of Owner-builders but all professionally prepped Spec-Racer millionaire's. Boy would that be wonderful. In fact I was going to propose a litle INSIGNIFICANT SCCA club tax of 5 dollars per year payable to me to support my racing. Because it really is INSIGNIFICANT I dont see how any one would mind!
