Cliff's Sandtrooper Mods (few more pics added - 8/25/01)
This is the new GF armor, from a movie suit.

I'm still experimenting with the weathering...so don't rag on me too hard :)

Check out the 7 pics below:

Thanks for looking,
cdw

Re: a302nsyd's Sandtrooper Mods

Sounds files below....if they don't play, try them again....my server gets a lot of traffic.

Actually, I couldn't wait for the Vortex,
so I got the 1st Generation Vortex for now.

I'm still on the waiting list, so I'll sell this one
when the other one is finally ready.

Glimadyne of Hyperdyne Labs has been a
total dream to work with. His customer
service is top rate. His work is outstanding
as well.

The sound board I got is for the Trooper. It has 4
random radio clicks, just like the movie, and 4
authentic and loud blaster sounds. It produces
extremely clean sound too. If and when you hear
static in my WAV files below, it's not from his unit,
it's from my sound recorder on my laptop....sorry
about that.

Here are the WAV files...please excuse my Texas
drawl :lol Beware, the blaster sounds are louder
than my voice...so don't blow your speakers :)

If you can't get the WAVs to work, try disabling
your firewall if you have one....happened to me.

63.70.30.51/disclaimer.wav
63.70.30.51/before.wav
63.70.30.51/after.wav
63.70.30.51/clicks.wav
63.70.30.51/blasters.wav

Next are some pics of the board, the amp,
the headset, the batteries, and the cables. Plus
you'll see a pic of how I implemented it all. Well,
actually Nikki played a huge roll in helping me
design and lay out this implementation shown
below. Thanks Nik! :)

Thanks for looking, and thanks Jim!

PS: This version has the latest anti-feedback program in it. It has four anti-feedback paths....which means feedback can be removed from up to 4 different positions that you encounter it in.

Looks very very nice. The other entry by my login was Shawn TK-1820

Was it you that was planning on cutting out the black ribs along the "cheeks" of the helmet?

Re: a302nsyd's Sandtrooper Mods

Thank you :)

No, I'm kinda a stickler for accuracy....and cutting those out just wouldn't be accurate. I have a squirrel cage fan in the back of the helmet that blows air around the base of the helmet (curved/rounded portion) to my face and works really well.

The holes in the nose area of the helmet are open and have 2 layers of speaker grill cloth covering them to hide my face.

Yeah, Shawn aka 1820 aka my hubby cut out the teeth, but his lenses still fog up about 5 minutes into the event and he can't see. he has fans too, but I think he needs to work on fan placement. What is a squirrel cage fan and how does it work? Sorry to ask so many questions, but I am gathering intelligence for the legion...oops I mean my husband!

Re: a302nsyd's Sandtrooper Mods
:lol No problem.

Here is a squirrel cage fan, works better than the small CPU fans, and works off of 9v batteries:

Re: a302nsyd's Sandtrooper Mods

Not currently. I took black wire loom (1/2") and stuffed all the wires in it. I then wrapped a little bit of velcro around the loom in the areas that I had matching velcro in the helmet. I used those plastic zip ties to affix the velcro around the wire loom.

If you look closely at the pics above, of my helmet interior, you can barely see it (plus that squirrel cage fan is near my right ear in those pics, but since then I have moved it to the back of my helmet). You can see the 9v battery connector coming out of the loom near the mouth of my helmet also.

I may take better pics soon, but I need to keep truckin on my armor to have it done in time for Plano Con.

Cliff,

Any chance you could post the dimensions of the diamond kneepad you made?

Yeah and harry up with those pics. You will probably look like a real trooper walking around. Just remember you made the armor your self. In the garage.

I thought I might see you here Cliff :) Everything rocks as usual.

airickuh,a product that I use to keep my lenses from fogging up is a product called "Never Fog",and can be bought at most automotive retailers.Follow the directions, and you should be fine.I don't have my frown cut out anywhere, but use dual 12v PC fans, and they keep everything cool even on a hot/humid day in Delaware.Hope this helps :)

Re: A few more pics of weathering mods...

Why thank you Arturo! I had to totally wipe clean the armor and redo it to my liking.

But, looking at some sandtrooper pics, they look more muddy/dirty than sandy, and I could never understand that.
