A 6'2" tall man of Scot-Irish decent, Matthew normally wore his dark brown hair short-cropped with a short tuff of bang covering his left eye. He wears his uniform on duty. Off-duty, he wears black jeans, a black, collared shirt, a trenchcoat, and combat boots. He is a muscular person with a scar over his left eye.
Personality:
Matt acts like a professional when he is on duty. Straight forward and to the point with no double talk and voices his opinion. When off duty, Matt becomes laid back and relaxes with his squadmates. And though he is not a guy who constantly flirts with women, he still is known to flirt with the women in the service.
In combat, Matthew can be a very merciless individual. Though he can kid here and there, he has been known to try and use a bit of psychological warfare against his opponent. This is usually done by acting like his namesake.
History:
Matthew had a normal childhood growing up on Side 7, full of idealistic nievete. He was the son of an engineer and a school teacher, both loved him very much. When he reached the age of 18 yrs old, he joined the DC Colonies. There he learned about the art of warfare and how to be a soldier. The disipline and the order made him feel comfortable and at ease. But as the war went on, Matthew naturally became more of a realist as he killed and saw death all around him. Losing friends and killing people remade Matthew into a hardened soldier which didn't take away his laid back disposition when not on duty, but made his into a complete professional when on duty. On his first mission, he killed seven mobile suits. This made him an instant ace. During the war, he got up to an unbelievable 690 kills and 10 unconfirmed.
They named him the Grim Reaper, the bringer of Death and the deliverer of souls. Every major battle he went into as a regular soldier delievered a 40-60% casuality rating on his squadron, while bringing upon an 80-90% casuality rate upon his enemy. The war ended poorly for his side, the colonies surrendering to the Federation. Unlike many of his comrades, Matthew chose not to go rogue. In fact, he and many high-ranking officers from the DC colonies and their allies went on to create the Colony Defense Forces (CDF). Built up of mostly former DC forces who remained loyal to their commanders, the CDF told the Federation straight up that they had no quarrel with them and that the war no longer bothered them. But the Federation, with its bigotry, forced restrictions upon the fledgling force.
The Colony Defense Forces were only allowed to have mobile suits and variable fighters while capital ships were restricted to Gunship, Frigate, and Destroyer type vessels. This made the CDF a weakened force compared to that of the Federation.
During the five years of peace however, the CDF brought about changes to conventional space tactics and ship design. Many of these changes are secret to everyone but the CDF. Matthew, given his military record, was given his own squadron of variable fighters named the Angels of Death, after its commander. Stationed upon the CDS Excalibur, the Angels of Death are determined to defend the colonies against anyone and everyone who would do them harm, no matter the cost.
