Comp Board
During the runoffs each group gets some time with the comp board. Unfortunately there was extreme confusion around the schedule of the formula/sportsracer comp board meeting. Originally scheduled for Tuesday it was moved to Monday. Another was scheduled for Thursday because so few people knew about it.

One major thing on the comp board's agenda is Mazda Rotary & Toyota engines. It seems to be stemming from FA and transcends to CSR. I would like to share some thoughts that I have sent to the comp board for their consideration:
-separate engine rules for FA and CSR because they are not the same
-the comp board may be placing much weight on radar trap speeds from the back straight at Mid-Ohio, which in my opinion is only a small indication of power because of the uniqueness of each CSR car and driver
-all our CSR cars are at very different levels of development
-there is such diversity in our class, of the nine participants at the runoffs there were six different engines in five distinctly different chassis with all different sorts of bodywork/aero configurations with the newest chassis probably not newer than 10-15 years old
-the top five qualified within 2.612 seconds with such diversity. By comparison the top five qualifiers in S2000 were covered by 2.58 seconds (with the same engine specs) and FM qualifiers were within 1.42 seconds (identical engine and chassis cars)

This all points to me that the thing is not broke so don't fix it! I joined the class because of the diversity of choice and yes I may make a wrong decision, like using an old Lola 8690 (a chassis choice within my budget) or running rain setup on a dry track for the second year in a row! BUT the choices were MINE. This is not a SPEC class. Sure I would love to beat the Beasleys and Jeff Miller and Tom Nelson and Vince Lamanna so I am going to have to work harder with the choices I made. That's cool with me!

Imagine how the spec racers feel when Warren Stillwell cannot be beat at Mid-Ohio! What should they do-ask Warren to add 100 pounds so someone else has a chance! Bull! This is racing and someone is always trying to raise the bar-good for them. Wait until someone converts a RT40/41 or how about the James' al block cosworth project. Good for them. That is the magic of the class.

One other thing I asked the comp board to consider was eliminating the requirement for brakelights in exchange for requiring a rainlight. This would make us consistent with formula cars and we mostly run with Atlantics anyway. Kind of a burr with me because I lost 1/2 a rain session because I didn't have a rainlight. To the officials credit they did apologize after we discussed the GCR requirements. But it got me thinking why do we need brakelights anyway. Makes more sense to have a rainlight.

I now give the soapbox to someone else.

Thanks

csr rules
the only reason that common rules with FA and CSR that makes sense is $$$$. Why develop two different versions of a motor for a class that is so close on engines. I have been thru the restrictor war's in CSR and it is not as simple as changing chokes. I would like to be able to buy an engine from a FA builder or team that had resale value to CSR or FA. The more engines on the market the better the price.
If you were at the runoff's and lost your only motor wouldn't you like to be able to buy or lease a motor from FA or CSR?

COMP BOARD
I was suprised to see radar gun readings so even although they didn't have enough posted to make a real comparison. I think we could post similar times with MAZDA or TOYOTA top eng. I like this class alot becuase of such great compitors like WALLY and JACIK ETC. Keep trying it took me 15 years. Good Luck.

rules
Al
Nice job at the runoffs. Nancy and I will be running CSR by the end of this year and will come east sometime during the year.

How about snow lights? Yes I think they should be rain lights like the FA,FC, FF, ect. This is just another area where rules commonality makes sense.
Wally I agree that the CSR is different in that we can use so much more imagination in all the areas, but some of the rules being common like engines would not limit us. What I am saying is if you use a FA motor you could also use anything else you wish, unlike FA. We use the same gears, same tires (on some cars), same engines in most cases. I am not saying chassis and aero rules should be the same.

Re: rules
I'd hate to see anything that placed more restrictions on the class. I love the run-what-ya-brung aspect of C/DSR. I love being able to do what I want to do, just for the heck of it. If it's a bad idea, then I'll try something else. I know this leaves us wide open to an eventual killer car fueled by unlimited cubic dollars, but, hey, that's life.

BTW -- I heard that Pete Peterson is moving up from GT to CSR.

Just kidding!!!!!

Mazda chokes?
Was there any more talk of choking down the Mazdas? I'm still not convinced they have as much power as some people say.
