Oops! Hit the enter button and I wasn't done! As I was saying (or typing, rather!), maybe we could use this site to tell of our travels now that the weather is SLOWLY improving.
We just got back from Pensacola, Florida - the weather was beautiful! We stayed at Fort Pickens State Park - beautiful campground within walking distance of the beach. Very clean, friendly place. We've made reservations to return there next month. We at twice at a place called Peg Leg Pete's - good food, good service, good prices. The restaurant is raised and they have a bar underneath where you can sit, have a few drinks and soak up the rays!!! Give it a try!!
We're going to Destin, Florida in two weeks - we're staying at Topsail RV Resort at the Topsail Reserve Park. We checked out the place this past week-end; VERY nice, sites are all paved, shaded, lake, gazebos, tennis and shuffleboard courts. About 90% of the units there were motor homes that looked like they cost $350,000 and up!! They gave us a 2 page list of rules. After getting the list of rules, we rethought our decision. Tried to get reservations at Fort Pickens or Henderson State Park nearby; no luck. So we'll be camping among the rich. We saw only one child while we were there. It was a very quiet place. Oh, well, we're going to be on the beach anyhow!!
Steve, how did your trip go? Did your unit do okay?
Re: destinations
We leave Thursday or maybe tomorrow if all goes well. We just picked up our trailer today. We noticed only three problems so far. The dealer apparently bent a screen. We took it out, straightened it and reinstalled it without a problem. One kitchen drawer has no catch on it so it slides open while on the road and the floor has a annoying squeak.
Our dealer gave us a great deal on a barely used Hensley Arrow hitch and we had it installed by the Hensley factory, which is not too far from our RV dealer. We drove home in 30 mph gusts and no fishtailing! Semis passed us and no swaying! Backing into the driveway was a breeze! Everything they say about the Hensley is true. It will definitely make the long drive from Michigan to Florida much more bearable.
Re: destinations
So far our only planned camping trip is our shakedown.....this will take place May 2! Woo Hoo! We have waited all winter and it's almost time! I am hoping for nice weather. It was 80 here yesterday, but is supposed to snow/sleet tomorrow. After that our only destination is Alexandria Bay, in the Thousand Islands region of NY.
Topsail RV Resort
Just returned from the best camping experience ever!! We stayed at the Topsail Hill Preserve State Park. It's a beautifully maintained RV resort with a campers only beach access which is apprx 1/2 mile from the campsite. Large paved sites: we stayed in a pull through that had a gountain two feet away! The resort had 4 lakes, gazebos, and a tennis and shuffleboard court. It was a VERY clean campground. There is much to do in the area (it's in Destin, Florida). We went to the outlet mall and found a GREAT Chinese place, Dynasty. If you go there, definitely try the shrimp nest - delicious!!! We booked another stay there in mid-August. We'll bring our granddaughter, Sarah, and take her on one of the "pirate cruises" and to the Gulfquarium, where you can pet and swim with the dolpins!
Of course, what trip wouldn't be complete without some problems - - - some kind of sewage odor noted from the toilet at times. But the fifth wheel is going in the shop for all repairs after our trip to our daughter's college graduation on May 6th - she's finally graduating with her doctorate in pharmacy!! We're very proud!!
Chewacla State Park
We just returned from Auburn, Alabama, where we stayed at the Chewacla State Park. It was ok; did have an impressive waterfall! We went there for our daughter's graduation from college - she now has her doctorate in pharmacy.
We switched chemicals for the toilet and that got rid of the odor we had been experiencing. Larry just left to bring the fifth wheel into the repair shop to fix all the things wrong. We accumulated a few more problems this trip, but Pilgrim assures us they will work with us to resolve all these problems. I hope that this many problems don't continually pop up (oh, I know problems will happen!); I just don't want this many!!
Merry:
How did your shakedown cruise go? Any problems?
