Discussion of Natural Remedies
This is a not a forum for discussing natural remedies and their role in the treatment of uveitis. We would like to clarify this and explain why we have taken this position over the years.
1. Uveitis in children can be blinding when it is not adequately treated;
2. We are here to provide information to parents about medical treatments that are known, through research, to be effective in the treatment of uveitis across a large sample of children. Parents who are trying to get information about these treatments may be confused by the introduction of anecdotal information about this or that untested treatment.
3. There are no studies, none, that have examined the treatment of uveitis with natural remedies. This does not prevent websites from trying to sell natural remedies for the treatment of uveitis. Such websites are a business. You may be be interested in the replies we have gotten to inquiries asking for a copy of "studies" claimed by such websites: 1) "sorry, the articles are in my basement and I will have to dig them out and get back to you; 2) no reply, 3) no reply, 4) no reply.
4. Single case examples are not useful in determining efficacy in medical treatment. They are meaningless.
We recognize that parents who want to explore these options have an energy and interest in doing the absolute best that they can for their children. This simply is not the forum for exploring these issues. We do not have the expertise to support such discussion, nor do we have an interest in promoting these remedies in our discussions. Our interest exclusively is to direct parents to treatments that are knwn to be effective, and, primarily, to provide emotional support through this difficult journey.
We have come occasionally on discussion boards that are interested in exploring the topic of natural remedies for treatment of uveitis; we have not seen one for children, but there are several for adults. Those forums would be an appropriate place to explore such interests. A GOOGLE search would probably find them.
We appreciate posters respecting the goals and purpose of this particular forum.
