Emily Finn
(Take into mind this bio is current, and slightly ahead of itself regarding Emily’s personality towards certain things, for example, by the time this is posted, she’d not have even spoken with Hank, Talia or any one able to tell her that she’s possessing the mutant gene, but I’m typing this as if she is aware to save from later confusion, I don’t see the point in writing out one bio then editing it all soon after!)

Other Physical Details:
Emily is a growing member of the wide spanning Finn family and bares the common traits of her lineage, most noticeable are her hazel eyes that seem to absorb all they can in every glance. The young girls hair is tainted with the reddish hue of her mother’s copper hair while there’s still some of her father’s light brown in there, adding to the coppery reddish brown colour that falls about her shoulders. Slender in physique and a strong in body and mind, for someone her age, Emily is a bundle of energy, raised on a farm that needs constant work and therefore, like her cousin Riley, and her aunt and uncle, Martha and Jonathon, Emily is constantly busy, and loves to always be on the move.

This impacts her health positively, giving her a good dose of enthusiasm and energy that seems endless. Due to her family’s poor financial state, Emily doesn’t really focus too much on clothing and styles, she wears whatever she can, and yet still tries to keep herself prim and proper. Emily is one of the few girls who enjoys wearing her school uniform, it saves her family having to buy new clothes for her all the time, since the school clothes are more durable. Most of her family enjoys a good pair of jeans, and so commonly Emily can be seen in jeans, boots and whatever top fits her mood at the time. Usually Emily keeps her hair out, but she does sometimes tie it up into a pony tail, usually she carries a hair tie with her and ties her hair back during physical activities to keep the hair from her face. Emily’s voice tends to be calm, and inquisitive. Even her simply words seem to hold a lot of emotion in them, like a boiling urge needing to know the answers to everything she asks without appearing demanding.

Personality:
Enjoying the chance to smile at every chance, Emily is bright, and talking with her people can tend to pick up that she’s more mature then most her age. Despite her age, Emily carries herself with as much poise as possible when around situations that seem to call for a polite attitude, this is usually always around adults or people she really respects. With friends, and others her age, Emily is just like any growing child, wild, playful, and full of an adventurous spirit that has and will get her into a few moments of trouble, which is easily picked up when watching her at times.

Accepting things without question isn’t Emily’s style, she likes to know why, how, when and if applicable, who was responsible. That was a striking family trait that shines brightly in her cousin, Riley, and her uncle, Jonathon, more then most of the other members of the close family. But the inquisitive nature often leads her to constantly studying, seeking and questioning any one and anything she can in order to find out the answers she desires to know. Emily isn’t much of a fighter, she’s never trained in her life and the only fights she’s ever partaken in where on the sideline of one of her brother’s arguments with her, their family, or others he managed to irritate with his sharp often insolent tongue. That doesn’t mean that Emily will back down at the sight of trouble, she’s strong willed, big hearted and over zealous towards defending what she cares about, be it family, friends, ideals or what else she finds extremely important.

Emily understands the dangerous being a mutant can represent, but feels that if that is what she is, then she’ll be the best mutant she can be. Part of her is scared, because Emily knows if her brother finds out of her potential ability, she will basically be disowned by him, and treated as Ben treats Riley, with loathing and disrespect. At least that’s what Emily fears, because despite Ben’s intolerable attitude at times, the two siblings do care for each other, and Ben is at times over protective of her, but Emily doesn’t want her brother’s short sighted approach on life to keep her from exploring what she finds great interest in, and that’s mutants, her cousin Riley, and the new world she’s been exposed to outside of Iowa.

As a friend Emily enjoys the common things, movies, games, talking, mucking around, eating together, she loves her company and enjoys it even more if the others are cheerful and bright and make her feel happy and playful. With adults Emily is always strict with herself, poise, manner, words, they all take up a formality that she doesn’t fully intend to produce yet finds it hard to act otherwise even if she tried, unless of course she felt comfortable with the older person. It does depend on their mood as well, their personality and how they treat her, for example, Emily isn’t formal with Riley or any of her closest family members that she knows well, but is still semi-formal with most of Jonathon’s family, most of whom didn’t live in Huxley like Martha’s family did. Teachers had to play their cards right for Emily to be less then strictly polite with them, someone like Scott Summers and Logan Howlett, even Jean due to her position probably wouldn’t reach Emily’s ‘casual’ interactions.

Riley is someone she admires, even if she doesn’t know him well, she knows he’s hurting a lot, and that he’s been through a lot, and even if she isn’t sure what’s happened, Emily feels that despite it all, Riley still struggles to help others around him. Riley Finn is an enigma to her inquisitive mind, as such Emily is eager to get to know her cousin more, and since the young girl feels Riley needs to get to know his family more himself, Emily thinks this is a perfect time for the two of them to learn more of each other. The young Finn child understands Riley is older then her, and has things that will take up a lot of his time, and is striving to win Catherine’s affections, but Emily still wants to try and see if she can try to work around his timetables. In the mean time Emily will seek out her own life there, her own personal distractions, new friends, new knowledge, it didn’t matter, she wants to experience it all.

Likes:
Riley Finn, her cousin. He’s just mysterious… she wants to solve his puzzle and help him at the same time.

Catherine Hall, even though Emily didn’t see much of her, there was still something that Emily liked about the girl, probably since both had their parents die it helped form a sense of understanding. Emily isn’t entirely comfortable at the moment with the relationship but she’d still enjoy getting to know Catherine better.

Horses. A trained horse rider for her age, Emily enjoys a good ride, and loves tending to them.

Animals. In general Emily is obsessively fond of animals, she loves them, she loves canines, felines and horses the most, but adores all creatures. Like most girls, Emily is a little iffy with spiders, but only the huge ones.

School work. Emily’s extremely curious about things, other then in maths, Emily takes a keen interest in learning more about the subjects they are being taught, or reading up on other things that might catch her interest.

Sport. Being a bundle of energy means Emily adores any chance to release it, especially in a group activity.

Music. Who doesn’t love music? But Emily basically has music on at all times, even if it’s just softly in the background, she isn’t too fond of a silent room, it’s boring without something distracting!

Arty things. Painting, woodworks, anything that involves being creative like that is something she’d love to give a go at. Being alone up at the farm with two older people often meant that sometimes her only ‘fun and games’ moment was during creating something artsy from things laying around unused or had been specially brought for her.

Dislikes:
Suppressors. Anyone who thinks they’re on top and others have no right to be anywhere else then in the dirt path that they talk all over. Emily doesn’t like obnoxious bigots who belittle others for superficial reasons or school bullies who do it just for the attention and glamour.

Being alone. Fair enough there are times where we have to be alone, but Emily isn’t used to it really, with so many visiting relatives one can imagine the constant flurry of family life around her. But more then that, she just naturally isn’t fond of long periods of time by herself. It isn’t so bad if there’s an animal with her, she could still manage not to get too down, but it’s never the most fun being alone.

Her brother’s attitude. If Emily could wish for one thing, it would be that her brother stopped being so angry with mutants, he is so highly strung with his bigotry that he had been prejudice against someone who has a birth defect that isn’t at all related to the X-gene. Ben’s racist comments are towards mutants only (or anyone who looks inhuman and he considers a mutant). Ben has no issues with black skinned people and such. Emily is worried Ben will hate her and be mean to her once her x-gene activates, she lost her parents, she doesn’t want to lose her brother as well.

Powers and/or Skills:

Dark Realm Summoner:
Like all children at some point in their lives, Emily has suffered from nightmares. Everyone knows of the boogieman, the monster which lurks in the closet or under the bed. The things that haunt the night lives of all children, the things that cause even the bravest to sometimes fear the dark. Most people believe these ‘things’ to be figments of a child’s active imagination, most assume they grow out of it, that the creatures never really existed, some managed to fool themselves into thinking that they were safe from the things that lurk in the dark.

But the truth is that those things do exist, they haunt and terrorize thousands every night, they are the things that give you chills on a warm night, the ones a dog will howl at, a cat will hiss, a young will child break into wailing cries. Untold monsters of the night travelling to the mortal world through shadows, a connection to their murky void, a gateway to their hellish realm of eternal darkness.

What creatures venture into the area Emily summons them to is random, depending on which ‘thing’ was close enough to stumble through the portal. All Emily does is form a mental beckon which lures the nightmarish creatures towards any shadowy gateways in her area. Once in the mortal world however they can be banished back by being exposed to light of any kind, even a simple torchlight keeps them at bay. However, as all entities much grow and evolve to better hunt their prey, the nightmarish creatures often have a draining effect on power sources, gradually diminishing their energy, flickering lights, causing a hauntingly eerie chill to sweep through the area for any burning candles… anything to hopefully plunge their victims into total darkness.

This power is instinctively initiated by fear, if Emily is scared they will come towards her, wanted or not. They also are not at her command, and therefore may choose to attack, they’d also not be choosey on enemies from allies, attacking whatever is in the area. If they sense a threat, the things will focus on the threat, anything that attacks them becomes an instant victim of their assault. These creatures can drag a their victim into the dark realm where they feed off the immense fears their prey release. It is possible for mortals to break into their realm and rescue any kidnapped victims, however it’s swarming with the nightmares which haunt darkness itself, few, if any, have ever returned from this dark realm.

Animal care:
Growing up on a farm gives Emily an insight on tending to animals. She can tell their conditions well enough from first glance and knows if they are healthy or not. Emily is also familiar with most diseases that commonly effect animals and how to cure the ailments.

History:
Iowa is often considered a quiet peaceful place, full of life and yet calm still, not swept away in the torrent of modernization. The Finn’s had always been in Iowa, at least that’s what it felt like, some would leave, but in the end when they grew older they seemed to return home to their little paradise, away from the rushing outside world. A few short years after Emily was about, about her second birthday, her parents Susan and Liam were struck by a logging truck which came around a corner a little wide, slamming into the car and crushing the front half under the massive bulk. The track was said to be driven by a resident mutant, rough scale skin down the spine however had little to do with the accident, but Ben marks all mutants as reckless and dangerous since his mothers death.

Although Emily’s older brother was the same age as Riley, Ben was too self absorbed in his own things to deal with a baby sister, leaving other relatives to take care of Emily while he was off with friends. Emily may not remember a lot at that age, but what she doesn’t remember for herself others tell her, and photos form their own memories in her mind. Riley had often found spare time to watch over Emily, there was no chore so important that he couldn’t take on Emily to allow both his parents and grandparents some time to themselves. Unfortunately a year later Riley was presumed dead, the incident forced Ben to take more of a role in her life but it still wasn’t perfect, almost fourteen and already Ben was focused on fooling around with girls.

As the years slowly passed the farm gradually became depleted of its animals, some died where a sickness hit the area but most where sold in order to put food on the table. A lot of the time was spent shared between the farm and Emily’s grandparents place, both residents housed the images of Riley Finn, her cousin. There were photos of him with her as a baby, photos of him playing with her, sitting with her, holding her, much more with her and Riley then with her and Ben. Her brother didn’t like the farm, he said it was boring, all of Iowa was boring for him but at the same time he wasn’t ready to leave, so instead lived constantly at the family shop with their grandparents. Sometimes Emily wondered what things would have been like if Riley had still been around, she helped out at the farm as best she could, but she was too young and could never be as strong as a guy. Sure Emily knew she could never replace Riley, and she didn’t want to replace him, just like Jonathon and Martha could never replace the parents she had lost, but having them there was enough to help her through the otherwise lonely life.

School was ok for Emily, nothing over exciting but she did make friends easily, something the young Finn had been told wasn’t a strong point in her ‘deceased’ cousins abilities. Martha had lost the ability to have children after she lost the baby she had in her when Riley died, so Emily was the last chance she had at raising children and was determined to see Emily more social and enjoying other company. But like Riley, Emily had a fondness of the farm that drew her away from most social outings to instead spend time there, however she’d sometimes ask to bring friends so they could go horse riding together or swim down in the waterhole.

Emily’s best friend was Tracy Dobkins. A young girl the same age as Emily who fell in love with the remaining few animals at the Finn’s farm, happily helping Emily tend to the horses and even milking Cammy, the last cow on the farm. Cammy was getting old and they were saving up for a new cow, but it was hard with all the other issues they had which seemed more important at the time.

On Emily’s tenth year two important animals died on the farm, Riley’s rescued dog, a former pit fighter named Troy, and Cammy. Both had been old, Troy had puppies with Tracy’s black Labrador named Annabelle, but they only kept one and named it Toby, selling the other pups for spare cash. Ben had began pushing for Emily to stop hanging around with Tracy after he found out her older brother was a freak. Kane’s ability was just enough to set him apart, but not enough to protect him if attacked for his difference. Tracy’s brother began having eye problems and during examinations the mutation which was causing a dull pain flourished into full vibrancy as a multitude of colours consumed the once brown colour of his eyes. From Kane’s prospective the world had changed, he could alter the colours and shades of anything he could imagine, paint rainbow patterns across the walls of his room, make all the trees a vibrant red with golden leaves. The outside world however remained untouched, it was all an illusion his eyes created for his mind, an escape from reality without actually escaping it.

Tracy loved her brother, and he had always been nice to Emily when she slept over, it was one of the first time Ben’s racist comments had really been taken to heart. Emily cared about Ben and she knew he cared about her, but he didn’t understand that the things he said hurt her as much as they hurt any mutant he crosses paths with. Many nights had been spent staying awake with Tracy and Emily wondering what would happen if they became different from the people around them, what would they do, what powers would they get, what would happen to them? With Kane now a mutant Emily and Tracy realized it was a chance to see how change will effect them, and there was little surprise to see Ben and his gang of friends making things hard on Tracy’s brother. Martha had warned Ben from his actions, but Ben didn’t consider them or his grandparents as having any right to ordering him about. After all, mutants killed his parents, so in his mind he didn’t have any parental figures and he didn’t want any.

It wasn’t until a year later, when out of the blue the long thought to be deceased Riley Finn emerged from the void he had fallen into. It was like the prays Emily whispered at night had come true, finally someone there to make sure she would be loved no matter what changes she might go through. Not only was Riley someone who had once watched over her like a big brother should have done, but both he and his girlfriend were mutants themselves. If that didn’t help attach Emily to them then finding out Catherine had lost her parents really helped fill in a few gaps, the thoughts of ‘you don’t understand what its like’ washed away knowing that these people, they do understand what it’s like to be alone, to be different, and to be loved.

When Catherine was shot that new years, and both her and Riley’s baby was killed, Emily wondered if it was because someone found out they were mutants. She isn’t aware of the initiative or their involvement with Riley, and just got a stab of fear that maybe Ben or someone might have said something to the wrong guy and it lead to the death of another baby Finn.

With Riley back at the school, and Catherine having left as soon as she had been healthy enough to travel, Emily once again felt the sting of loneliness on the farm. Even though she loved it and had her friends it didn’t seem to do it for her, maybe because there was too many things that needed to be answered, or that she wanted to discover. When they were invited down to watch Riley play one of his basket ball games and celebrate his 22nd birthday Emily had been positively delighted.

During the game however Riley had suffered what she learned to be a heart attack and from that moment Emily has convinced herself that she wanted to stay at the school with him, even if just for a little while. Glade at the fact they were offered a room, Emily is carefully trying to figure out a way that will allow her to stay longer once her uncle and aunt leave, she loves them and would miss them but this school might answer a lot more questions then Tracy’s brother ever could.
