Factions
GATA (Galactic Administration of Terrestrial Advancement): Controls the Earth. They have the largest army and most funding. A democraticly-run political system contributes to its high corruption rate in the higher-ups.
ELF (Ender Liberation Front): Runs the Jupiter Colonies. A small army backed up by large funding and a democratic system, it's practically corrupt free... though there are a few rougue agents.
BAHRAM: Runs Mars with an iron fist. While their army isn't as large as the Federation's or GATA's, it's backed up by AIs in Orbital Frames and money from Mars's mining projects. Seeks to take over the universe... no matter what the price. Failed attempts have been made, and that's the reason Phobos was destroyed and the Solar Cannon is now under Federation control. Every now and then joins up with the DC. It's run via a Despotism.
Federation: The UN of space, it runs the other planets. ELF and GATA are major allies to it, meaning that the three combined have a large army and funding. Another democratic system runs this.. and it gets corrupt as well.
DC (Divine Crusaders): Made up of Colonies and the remaining forces of Zeon, the DC intends to first succede from the Federation, and then take over Earth. Their forces are made mostly of Mobile Suits controlled by top pilots. A principatality made up of normal colonists and members of the original Zeonic Principatality, it's a force to be reckoned with.
Kingdom of Utnapisa: A society formed by the merging of numerous humanoid aliens that spans across a large chunk of the galaxy.
It is hard to classify the Utnapish as a race because many of the races have crossbred so much that many races have been assimiliated into something entirely new. As far as Utnapish culture is concerned, there are only two races in the kingdom and those are the common Utnapish and the true Utnapish. The true Utnapish are those who are fully descended from the people originally from the planet Utnapisa while the common Utnapish is all the other races in the kingdom. True Utnapish are practically identical genetically to humans, often possess a strong spiritual energy and make up only seven percent of the kingdom's population. Common Utnapish share only one common trait, humanoid features. Otherwise, they come in every skin color, hair color, eye color, size, shape and anything else you can imagine.
Because of the large number of cultures being merged together, Utnapish society is a very cosmopolitan. Rather than trying to supress other cultures, the Utnapish, for the most part, fully embrace new cultures and assimilate them into the kingdom as a whole, making for a very dynamic culture. This is one of the reasons that such a large gathering of races has had so little internal strife.
The biggest reason the Kingdom of Utnapisa has never had a major revolt is their official religion and its leader and founder, the Prophetess. Their religion has no official name but all doctrines of their faith as dictated by the Prophetess speaks of a paradise, named Nisir by the Prophetess, that lay hidden somewhere. According to the Utnapish religion, all existance is merely a migratory stage before Nisir. Although there are some polythesic worship in Utnapish society, the religion doesn't make any attempt to validate or even address the subject of higher powers. The closest thing to a recognized deity is the Prophetess, who is immortal and capable of producing miracles. However, the Prophetess does advocate against the people warshiping her. She is highly revered though.
The government of the Kingdom of is a constitutional monarchy. A parliment is elected by the people to create policy for the kingdom. The ruling king or queen ultimately determines which policies get through and which do not as well as control the military. The monarchs are selected from those of the true Utnapish who are determined to be royalty. The members of the royalty often have the highest spiritual powers of the true Utnapish which often sets them up for high-ranking positions in the military. Though the ruling monarch should have the greatest political power in the kingdom, the Prophetess' immense influence with the populace makes her the true driving force behind the kingdom. The government is wary of her because she could literally tear apart the kingdom with a word.
The Utnapish military is a huge, powerful force benefiting from technologies from various sources. It was through their military's might they were able to expand so far across the stars. Many races they the kingdom comes across capitulate at the very sight of the Utnapish vanguard fleet. Though the kingdom would rather have other cultures join them peacfully, the Utnapish military is always ready to forcibly subvert any who would try to resist joining the kingdom.
