Finally--ready to race
not sure if this belongs here or under participation----gonna debut my new car next weekend at Sebring--if it works at all I will run all of the nationals here in the southeast the rest of the year
car is an 83 van dieman FF converted to bike power---a TL1000R suzuki sleeved down to 802cc---the first motor came off the dyno this morning--- almost as much HP and torque as when it was a 1000 cc motor(compression increase only)--by the way--the car uses 2 of these motors

Re: 2 motor configurations
Does each motor drive one rear wheel, or do you tie both of them to a single axle?

Can you post any pictures of the drivetrain?

Wait a minute... You must tie them together ahead of a gearbox. I can't imagine trying to synchronize two gearboxes/clutches....

Sound interesting anyway...

conversion
its actually much simpler than you first think---the rear axle is a one piece---basically a Beasley type arrangement--one 1.375 inch shaft with 2 sprockets mounted to it--15 inches apart(remember--these are v twin motors--only 14.75 inches wide)--the only connection between the 2 ngines is the rear axle--the throttle cable and the shift linkage(and the linkage is only connected at theshift lever in the cockpit--and that is easily disconnected in case of a missed shift by onle one motor- or one engine having a problem)
I wil have pictures in a week or so-and am able to get my wife to post them(kinda stupid in that area here)
remember--as the motors are connected this way--if they aren't identical--the stronger just carries the weaker one

Way to go Bill!

Will you be at Savannah? I'm coming down from Canada on vacation. Got to see your car!

Savannah

Re: Finally--ready to race
Hi Bill
I've got 4 FV's in the shop and my royale RP24 dsr (maybe csr?) conversion project.

I've always been interested in a twin engine setup. Saw a twin Yamaha RD400 DSR at the runoffs 15 or so years ago. I wonder what happened to that car!

Unfortunately(?), this is a sit and relax vacation. I don't know if I could do the 24 hour tow!

Anything you need from Canada? Cigars from that certain island we are not supposed to talk about!

Dyno runs
second motor is off the dyno-----left motor--130 HP at 8000 and 86 ft/lb at 6800
right motor--128 HP at 8000 and 85ft/lb at 6800
both motors sleeved down to 802 cc and 12.5:1 compression--otherwise dead stock except reprogramming the computer

Bill

Was getting the engines sleeved down a problem? Any special materials, engine re-work etc.

Matching rpms
What happens if the engines run at different rpms?

Sleeving
Sleeving was a piece of cake--did some extra milling inside the water jackets to make sure of extra heat transfer as the sleeves were so thick
getting pistons was easy and installation was as well--the entire process was easier than I would have even hoped!!
as far as the differeent rpms--I made sure(through engine numbers) I got exactly the same gear ratios inside the trans--the sprockets are the same--and they are attached to the same rear axle----so if they are in the same gear-they are at the same RPM

dual engine CSR
Any pictures available yet? Have you run the car yet? Curious minds want to know.....

twin motor CSR
had to change plans in mid stream when my parter "retired"(new girl friend who hates racing)---now this car will sit as I am running my other car for the rest of the year-an HP rabbit(was supposed to be his this year)
now for the CSR stuff---car runs and drives--has run about 20 laps at USA speedway in Lakeland FL(3/4 mile oval)--great power(will spin the tires in 3rd gear at 5000 rpm)---no obvious problems at all(was VERY worried about shifting) and everything seems normal
am planning on running a couple of regionals later this year as the rabbit permits(or his girlfriend changes his mind)
Picture of the motor installation is on the DSR forum page
all plans change---and mine might too

Dual Engines
Bill - For some reason, I thought you ran a Suzuki 1300? Tell me more about the dual engines. How difficult was it/is it really? From my understanding, you can get around 230hp fairly easily with the 1300, so (forgive my ignorance) why go to the extra trouble of 2 motors?

Re: twin motor CSR
David,

Bill mentioned 2 x 130bhp = 260bhp > 230bhp with 1300cc.

Photos of the car can be seen via this rough directory:
dsr.racer.net/images/chas...l_gotwalt/

They are on average 150KB each.

BTW, Bill recently still had the car up for sale.
