GONNA' GET SAVVY OR STAY TRAD ?
Crap subject headline I know, but I had to be the devil's advocate to get people to look because I care about this method of music delivery.
Right, to be brief - I brought this up awhile ago on a previous post that I essentially can't be arsed looking for, with which some agreed (jesus, 8 I think + 1 detractor) so I thought I'd start afresh because the legitimateness of this concept works.
And if I get pelted with eggs and tomatoes, I don't really give a toss because I am competent with this means of delivery myself and I KNOW THIS WORKS!
On-line delivery to subscribers.
I.e. - FEL say - For $200 a year, we will provide long gone b-sides, play a live show you can download, plus get demos of the works in progress etc....
The album itself or Mini-LP the title, band coined, could still go through inanal chains like SANITY if they so please whilst being available previously & EARLIER to subscribers.
And to counter the person who said online delivery is like giving music away - THEN WHAT IS CD RENTAL STORES ? (Around since 1989 at earliest) - WHAT ABOUT PC ABILITY WHERE WE CAN RIP A WHOLE CD FOR A FRIEND IN 1 MINUTE ?
Do you think a FEL CD in a CD store won't get burned, passed on, compiled, cut and pasted into another CD situation ?
That's just naivity.
The option is available if the band are interested and whilst they've described themselves as a useless bunch of c-unts who couldn't organize themselves out of a wet paper bag (I agree largely) - They are sitting on a goldmine.
My head is in the stocks.

Well, you have the in-principle "yes" from 25% of the band as of now. Let me talk to those other flappers, but I have a good feeling about this; I think it's going to be very special".
Sign me up.
Any reh, demo's, live shows or anything for that matter is looked upon with GREAT interest here...
Let us know...
More than happy to take part.
BTW: KAMASZ, You still interested in selling/ donating/ trading any of your FEL collection...? (Dubs more than welcome)
They'd be going to a VERY good home...
Promise...
two things
As the title says, I got two things for ya.
One, I'm afraid I don't quite understand how this system is going to work - is the suggestion that each punter pays $200 for a lifetime/year's worth of stuff, or have I completely misunderstood (am I a 'slow lerner'?)
Two, are you(se) aware of what Ben Folds has been doing? If not, you can check out his website (basically, he's 'released' two four-song EPs via his record co.'s online shop only, and the only advertising I know of was on the sites & some airplay on JJJ). True underground/indie bands have probably been doing similar for yonks, but Ben F's the only recent online example I know. Hope this is of some use to somebody.
Take it easy...
TODD RUNDGREN, genius and pioneer was THE FIRST to ever offer subscriptions and was hailing this method of delivery years before technology could meet the specifications. I am currently subscribed to his service entitled PATRONET and I have been downloading his rare and in-progress material & video in a contented state of bliss for ages now. Rundgren was BEFORE Bowie & co and that's not just with Internet savvy either, but that's an altogether different post.
Fee would be yearly.
As is with Patronet. Bloody good too.
p.s. FEL Boot requests can be accomodated just THROW MONEY.... Edited by: KAMASZ at: 4/14/04 16:53
