Gathering food for a long night ahead
Ben had waited as Peter evaluated his offer of getting them both some food. He realised that all of this was happening so fast and that the idea of who should go and get the coffee seemed trivial but right now it was all he could do. Daredevil’s life was in the hands of the doctor and even though he did not know the man behind the mask he felt involved in all of this. And besides he had been entrusted with a message, one that he realised that he may never be able to deliver but it was worth holding on to the hope that those words held.
"When DareDevil wakes, would you tell him to take care? And tell him it was a pleasure to meet him.”
The look on Peter’s face told Ben that he had reached a decision, and as it turned out he was going to have company on his raiding trip to the kitchen. The logic behind Peter’s choice was that he could stock up with everything he might need now so as to be able to stay by his friend’s side constantly for the rest of the night. It made sense, when you thought about it; it would be impossible to forgive yourself if your friend died while you were out getting a chocolate bar.
So without any further delays Ben led the way to the small kitchen that was provided so that the students could cook there own food if they did not want to eat in the dinning room. Ben knew there was an espresso machine in the corner though he had never used it, for he did not like coffee or tea. And so he only had to hope that Peter had more experience with these things that he did.
“The coffee machine is over there, I thinK there should be sachets of coffee next to it. I’ll see if I can find a thermos to put it in.”
He knew that there should be a thermos in here somewhere for the school allowed the students to use a picnic set so that they could eat out in the grounds. And hopefully it was still stored in the usual cupboard…as long as no one had borrowed in during the day and not returned it. To his relief it was still there and after a bit of rummaging he found the thermos which he then put down on the counter.
With that done he went to gather some food together, he did not think that they would need much, but seeing as he was not going to be ingesting any caffeine he figured he was going to need something to keep him awake.
“The coffee machine is over there, it thing there should be sachets of coffee next to it. I’ll see if I can find a thermos to put it in.” With rushed strides Peter found himself half way towards the machine before Ben even finished his sentence, a desperate need to hurry filling every sense Peter had at the moment. Managing to start on the coffee just as the container was deposited for Peter’s personal use on he counter beside him, Spiderman gave a moments study of the youth in the kitchen with him as he waited.
There was a chance that the kid had offered some scant attempt of not prying, but the likelihood of Ben not seeing Peter weave through the webbing scatted across his room was pretty slim, no matter how hard the guy may have tried to appreciate Peter’s privacy. A frown formed as Peter also found himself wondering if Beast told Ben who he was, but the somewhat callous thought was eased aside with a soft assurance of how trustworthy the X-men always were.
Nothing like a good potion of strong coffee to keep Peter awake, then again he had over exerted himself just before to try and release a restless flux of surging energy, strangely enough he didn’t feel drained as he usually was after such efforts. Hazel eyes closed for a moment of peace, only to be disturbed by images of Matt and what possible injuries his friend could have that would cause so great a need of urgency like this. Eventually the gaze opened and lowered to the unbuttoned shirt, strangely numbed fingers moving to make himself more presentable and do them up.
"Do you work for Dr McCoy?" Tired eyes looked towards Ben as Peter finished doing up his shirt, however the exhaustion was more from being emotionally drained instead of physically at the moment. If things remained quiet any longer Peter was sure the gently bubbling anger inside may overflow at some point and he didn’t want to give himself the opportunity if he could help avoid it.
Re: Gathering food for a long night ahead
Ben felt the other mutant studying him while he gathered a few more provisions for the night ahead. He opened the fridge and pulled out a couple of cans of cherry coke and some cheese, not particularly healthy food but it would have to do. He just hoped that the doctor did not have any specific “no food in med bay” rules. As he closed the fridge Ben noticed that Peter had finally realised that he had not finished getting fully dressed and was now busy remedying this.
"Do you work for Dr McCoy?"
It was not a question Ben had been expecting but at least it was easy enough to answer.
“No I don’t I’m just one of the older students here. I was on my way down to see a friend when the doctor was informed about Daredevil and I was more than happy to help where I could.”
Ben remained sketchy when it came to giving any details about the teams or the fact that he had been part of the rescue squad that had gone out to get the injured crime fighter. He did not know how much this mysterious youth new about the school and had no intention of letting any secrets slip. But there was one thing that he was dying to know and he felt like now was as good a time as ever to ask it while the coffee machine gurgled away in the background.
“I don’t want to pry but are you in any way related to May?”
OOC: sorry it’s short but I just don’t seem to be in a rambling mood, may add to it later
Re: Gathering food for a long night ahead“No I don’t I’m just one of the older students here. I was on my way down to see a friend when the doctor was informed about Daredevil and I was more than happy to help where I could.” At least someone was there to help Matt, where had Spidey been? Reminiscing in the glory days of when his powers were in top notch and his physique was sculptured to near perfection... at least for his slender form and type of frame.
“I don’t want to pry but are you in any way related to May?” A sharp look hit Ben's face, both worry and distrust etched into the features of the now youthful Parker. Peter was related to two May's, his aunt and his daughter which had been named after her. Did this boy somehow know his aunt... impossible, she died a few years ago. Unless there was something happening to his daughter! They would tell him right? But Peter had been so tired when Beast last saw him, maybe they didn't want to disturb him... no, they wouldn't keep his little girls situation from him if she was in any sort of danger. He couldn't go through losing her again, he had already thought he had lost her once, now he just couldn't go through it again.
"What did McCoy tell you about my family?" Disapproval echoed in the very curves of Peter's lips, the slightly stern look barrowing into the other boy as if preparing for a very important and personal interrogation.
Re: Gathering food for a long night ahead
The look Ben received was not what he had been expecting, but somehow it just reminded him more of his new team mate. May was not the most approachable of people, she was friendly enough but just not the kind of person you could engage in mindless banter. Or ask about their past… not that he had known her long enough to feel entitled to. But now that he was presented with this strange youth that had the same powers as her and mysteriously knew Daredevil he had not been able to help himself.
Ben watched worry and distrust flash over the other mutants face; he had obviously not wanted this to get out. For there was no way that someone who did not recognise the truth in Ben’s words would look so worried… So he did know May, this was an interesting turn of events. Was Peter here to see her? If so how come he knew Daredevil? Should he also go and tell May?
"What did McCoy tell you about my family?"
There was such disapproval and defensiveness in those words that the shock on Ben’s face was clear to see. Why would Peter think the doctor told him anything? Ben knew May through his team and the fact that she lived at the school. He was hurt that Peter could think that the Doctor would go around giving away personal information about people. He could not help but want to put the records straight and clear the doctor’s name.
“The doctor didn’t tell me anything other than your first name and which room to find you in. I know May because she on my team here. Ok I have to admit I’ve only known her for three days and that she’d probably not mention me but it’s not the doctor’s fault. Besides what’s so wrong about me knowing your sister?”
Ben was confused and he felt like he was losing control of this already chaotic night. He did not see why this boy was so defensive of May; she was imposing enough on her own and had proven by taking on Rogue that she could more than defend herself. But then maybe Peter was a bit like Connor would was rumoured to be very protective when it came to his sisters even Madison, who was pretty intimidating.

If Ben hadn’t referred to May having been on a team and being his team mate for a few days then Peter would have understood why one would assume he was the brother of the 5 year old May Parker instead of her father… But what the boy was saying was something entirely different, the girl was no toddler, but a grown girl who he worked and trained with.
"I think we’re talking about different people here, the only girl in my family is five years old and I doubt she’d be running around fighting for mutant equality behind my back.. she’s stubborn so one day I’m sure it will happen.. but not just yet." Peter eased up a little, feeling a might foolish at the moment for going on the defensive so hastily and aggressively. "Sorry, but I don’t have any relatives here, definitely no sisters either…" As Peter spoke he shrugged off the entire conversation they had previously had with casual movements of organizing the coffee in the container.
"..The last few days have been rough." Peter finished up without glancing at Ben, trying to offer some sorry sort of excuse for his snappish behaviour, Peter was always closed up but he usually tried not to be so rude… sure he failed in that a lot but he still liked to try and be better then how he was as a youngster. Reckless and headstrong, often naïve or selfish without really being aware of himself doing so… Age and reflection helped him see such things, but that didn’t mean he had been able to change everything over night, it was always hard to admit when you over reacted or made a mistake… especially to someone who was about thirty years difference in age.
Re: Gathering food for a long night ahead
It seemed once again that Ben had completely lost Peter and the other boy’s look of confusion actually made the Darklight mutant feel bad about bringing the whole thing up. Maybe Peter was not in on the whole “team” thing and in that case Ben had definitely put his foot in it. He had to stifle a sigh at his own stupidness he failed to understand how his brain could let him make slip ups like that, he was usually so careful. But this complete laps of sense told him that he was starting to feel the strain of this evening and a seat might be a good idea right about now.

Judging by the way Peter had spoken, it sounded like he was the man in the family and Ben wondered what had happened to his father. But that was another inappropriate question that should be kept for another lifetime. Ben figured that they both needed to get down to the med bay and just wait quietly with their own thoughts, as it seemed sharing was not going down quite so well. Never the less Peter had handed him interesting information which he would mull over when he got the time. Millions of questions seemed to form in his head all at once. Could two completely unrelated people display such similar mutant powers? Were Peter and May actually distantly related? From a scientists point of view this was a treasure trove of new theories.
"..The last few days have been rough."
Ben wholeheartedly agreed with that statement and if he did not get some rest soon they were not going to get any better. He hated knowing that his body would let him down if he let it. He could power through anything taxing as long as he had his mind set on it but as soon as he stopped for some rest it seemed his body could not start again until after it had caught some illness. So he was amazed that he was not bed ridden yet, as he had been through the rescue mission at harmony, training weekend and the sewers all in the last week.
And it seemed to him that Peter needed a break, he had after all just found out that his friend might be dying. It was understandable that he was snappish. So Ben started to gather his provisions for the night ahead and with a small smile he nodded towards the door.
“It’s ok. Come on lets go and get you set up as comfortably as possible.”
