Giselle Dupont - Symbol (WIP)
* Note - I seem to remember that because we have lost some characters it was becoming okay to use a few of the overused powers even though they were technically banned just as long as they weren't used in excess. If I'm wrong please let me know but I'd like to think that Giselle's form of telepathy is different and not omni-powerful enough that it should be acceptable...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Name: Giselle "Elle" Dupont
Nickname: Elle, Ella (only her parents call her this)
Code Name: Symbol
Affiliation: Xavier's, just newly promoted to a team member and trying to prove herself.
Gender: Female
Age: 17
Birthday: April 11th
Hair: Her platinum blonde bob is often carefully styled in an approximation of dreadlocks to appear as though she doesn't care. However, she is capable of toning down her signature look and appearing quite professional with a straight chin-length bob. Her style also typically includes bangs.
Eyes: brown, often wide and indignant
Height: She's a little short at 5"3 but can be quite imposing all the same.
Weight: Elle isn't a stick but she has an athletic build.

Mother: Elizabeth Day-Dupont/made up/alive (mutant)
Father: Henri Dupont/made up/alive (human)

Other Important Relatives/People in their lives:

Jeanette Dupont (maternal grandmother)
The death of Jeanette Dupont two years ago devestated Giselle and further strained her relationship with her mother.

Physical Description:

While not a conventional beauty, Giselle Dupont stands out in a crowd alright. From her bleached blonde locks, set against pale skin, to her red converse sneakers she gets attention and holds it. There's a certain amount of vanity to Giselle and, although she keeps her makeup fairly natural, it's clear that she does want her lightly freckled skin to appear flawless. Similarly her tosseled hairdo of dreadlocks is supposed to appear careless but is styled with precision each morning. Against such a pale canvas her brown eyes pop and she stares out at the world as though challenging it to defy her.

Typically defensive, Giselle often adopts a position with her arms crossed across her chest or with her hands on her hips without even realizing she's doing it. Her slim silhouette is commonly covered in casual clothes with her usual uniform being skinny jeans and hoodies around Xavier's. Although when venturing out into the city or for anything job related she adopts a more professional image and straightens her hair. In these situations she typically wears a fitted blouse or knit sweater with a pair of work pants or a pencil skirt. Giselle's colour scheme often depends on her mood although she prefers bold solid colours like scarlet red and turquoise to pastels or neutral shades.

While her alto voice may sound adversarial at first she quickly calms down and speaks more politely to strangers, greeting friends with enthusiasm. In her rush to get everything on her mind out before she loses the thought, her words often garble together and she can be difficult to understand unless the person she is speaking to listens carefully or tells her to slow down.

Giselle is someone who does everything quickly but, although she may not seem it, she is also careful and wants to do things correctly. She walks with a purpose, her quick gait more befitting a racehorse than a petite young woman, and sees movement not as a journey on which to take your time and smell the roses but as a way of getting from point A to point B. As a result walking is a waste of time and should be done quickly so as to move onto more important things is her point of view.

While her hair and speed are two features that more commonly get her noticed, Giselle is less commonly noticed for her smile. Although she doesn't smile often the money her parents spent on braces has paid off and she has a lovely smile. She is also capable of appearing larger than her 5"3 height would indicate and her charisma can make her appear taller, or more threatening, than a petite girl normally would.

Powers: Picto-Empathic

Giselle's power a very specifically geared form of telepathy, one that true mind-readers have looked down on as 'primitive', much to Giselle's annoyance. At the moment she is only able to read people in close-proximity, but as her powers develop she will be able to fixate on and 'read' any person within the span of a small city.

While telepathy of anysort can be difficult to master, Giselle's mutant mother Elizabeth, a full telepath, was able to help Elle to gain basic control over her new power. Most importantly, she learned to switch it on and off. The difference between Giselle's power and other forms of telepathy is in what she reads. She can not read thoughts straight from a person's head as someone like Professor Xavier or her mother might, nor does she read only feelings and sensations, like an empath. What Giselle recieves is best described as pictures or pictograms. This is easiest when it is a specific object being thought about, such as two scrambled eggs and bacon for breakfast. It is harder when it comes to complex ideas and thoughts and these are sometimes expressed in pictograms or pictures that Elle finds herself deceiphering like a puzzle or code. Her ability to pick up on what colours, images and other forms of communication mean what will improve as she adjusts to her ability.

However, Elle also has limited empathic abilities, which is why she has named her power "picto-empathy". This empathic sense emeges only in certain conditions. When she is in direct physical contact with a person she may catch a fleeting emotional impact, which grows fainter as either party pulls away. If she wants to hold onto this feeling or deciefer it Elle often finds herself struggling to hold onto it, much like trying to remember a dream when you wake up suddenly. This 'reading' of emotions also occurs if someone in close proximity is feeling an extremely forceful emotion, such as blinding rage or deep sadness. The emotional pick-up of Giselle's ability is far from being the power of an empath though and as a result she does not feel the same drain as an empath might from feeling the emotions of others all day.

While Giselle has fairly good control over her powers, considering they manifested only sixteen months earlier, she is very much at a stage where she is still testing and exploring the boundaries of her powers and attempting to stretch them further. Although she is quite proud of her abilities, she is keenly aware of the more powerful abilities of other students and of teachers and defends her talents agressively if called names due to her power being perceived as "lesser" or "primitive".

In the future, as her abilities grow, Giselle will come to have the power of projection. Instead of simply accessing the images of others, she will be able to project her own images and even limited words into the minds of others as a way of communicating across distance. Again, since her power does not extend to full telepathy or telepathic speech, any who she does project to will still have to deciefer the message behind her symbols and images, as though it were a code, at the other end. Images will be easy to project but words will need to be singular or not extend further than one sentence. She will never be capable of complex paragraphs or of telling a story through telepathic speech no matter how hard she may try.

History:

I'm asking for detail here, not everyone will be keeping their characters EXACTLY the same as Marvel has them (if you apply for a canon character), you're allowed to alter their history slightly, have them change sides, what ever you want, but everything must be here telling us WHY they have done this. Also, you may have to check back with players of other canons characters in case they have made references you thus need to include.

When applying an original character (always a good choice), make sure to try and be as creative as possible. Make sure you put effort into showing why the character has become the way s/he had turned out to be, but note that a dramatic past doesn't always have to make a great character. If you've got a board full of depressed suicide candidates whose parents put them on the streets at their fifth birthday, it's kind of getting dull...

The history part is one of the most significant elements of your bio, so you want to put effort into it. A Poor history may lead to the application being rejected, yet in most cases, we will try to work things out with you, tell you what we think needs improving.

Personality:

Just tell us about their personality, how they act, their moods, maybe certain traits you think are worth mentioning. Note that most people develop their personality as a logical consequence of their past, so make sure everything is making sense. Somebody who has grown up on a farm e.g. will never be indifferent towards animals. They may become animal lovers because they've been around them all their life or hate them just for the same reason, but either way there'll be an impression that has been made. Make sure things stay logical and be as precise as possible. Try to make your character come alive!

Likes:
Give us an idea on what type of things your character likes

Dislikes:
And an idea on what they don't like!
