Its been awhile since I have been on site. I actually get lots of emails on our Canadian sites and going to meetings to improve our Uveitis group and adovocating awareness in Canada this year. Excited that I am going to Health Region and Eye Foundation meeting. I hope to bring up that we need to put more awareness in schools for kids to get eyes checked yearly.
Anyway, My Rosanna got the flu...tested positive for H1N1 on the weekend of October 23rd. She started with chills and was feeling not so well...she went on computer and said "mom I have 4 of the symptoms". The next morning she woke up ....blue lips, faint and nauseated, 103 degree temperature and over the toliet.
I took her to emergency. Her blood pressure was low and they did put her on liquids. They swabbed her and thought she was 95 percent with H1N1. They got her TAMIFLU medication kit and started her on the 5 day dose. Of course vaccination were not available till 3 days later. She was first in school with it and it has seemed to escalt from there...maybe more but hard to say unless tested. But kids 13 around Rosanna's age more at risk apparently and anyone born over 1960 don't have the anitbodies naturally.
It was scary as she watches what she eats and on volleyball and hockey team, very fit. I kept her home for 7 days...she had eye appt. Her eyes clear and bloodwork excellent.
She is still on Methatraxate coming off slowly in next year. Not on it for a few weeks till strong. We are happy it has not brought on Uveitis again active.
So now she has it for life like chicken poxs.
So if your kids get it do get Tamiflu, it helps alot and will let them fight it better.
I thought it would be good to put you all to peace if your kids get it and if they are on medication (antiviral)...they can fight it quicker.
Saletta,
Thanks for the info. Good to know she was able to fight it so well. I am one of those parents just hoping and praying Jessica gets through the season with little or no issues. My youngest daughter came down with the flu 2 weeks ago and thank goodness (and lots of santiizer!) no one else got it.
Re: H1N1
It is wonderful to see an update from you Saletta! I'm sorry Rosanna got the nasty bug, but glad she got over it without any complications. I have no idea what kind of flu went though our house, but 4 out of 5 got sick here. Everyone had different symptoms. Alexa's morphed into tonsilitis, my sons morphed into pneumonia and a double ear infection. I don't wish this flu on anyone!
Re: H1N1
Saletta,
Sorry your daughter got Swine Flu! But, I'm glad she got the Tamiflu to lessen the symptoms and duration of the flu.
Thanks for the update too as I think about you often and send people to the Canadian Uveitis page often when they ask questions at iritis.org.
wish you the best,
Mike
Re: H1N1
Renee',
boy now I know why you haven't posted much with such a sick houshold!
Tonsilitis is a terrible thing, I got it at 18 and they took them out which was way too old to have it done. I still remember the difficult time eating afterward. anything with salt at all was unbearable for about 3 weeks.
Re: H1N1
Nice to hear from all of you. Thanks for your concerns.
Yes and Renee....you have had a busy household, amazing how mom's just survive it all. I so glad all your kids are well.
I read your posts Mike and have gotten many directed from you.
So lets hope these past few months past with flu bugs...
