HI all,
Hi all,
Just had to write something to you all about a recent victory, at least it feels like one, for the people here in La. I don't know how much of it has been in the media, but our recently legislators gave themselves a 200 percent raise, and had orginally planned for 300 percent. The new governor, Bobby Jindal had said he would veto it when he ran for election, but then said he would not after they passed it. Many of us here in Lousiana, including me, were outraged, as our poor and elderly have cuts in nursing homes and medicaide, and we have years long waiting lists for services for disabled elderly and others in need, not to mention the devastating effects of hurricances in 2005 still leaving many along all the coastal areas in dire conditions. The people got so angry they started recalls of some of the legislators and then for the govenor. I was so tired and discouraged from hearing some say that nothing we did would matter. Today the local news media announced that governor Jindal has vetoed the raises.
Had to share this as it was a bright spot on the journey for us, and already having the worry and concerns about Bobs journey with his illness somehow makes things like this more depressing when the world seems to leave you disillusioned.
Anyway a ray of sunshine for us here, and we the people of this State were finally heard!!
Hope this cheers someone else up too.
