Hello Australians
Hello, I live in Adelaide South Australia.I am the mother of two children. I first got uveitis seven years ago. I take Methotrexate once per week at 15mg which seems a bit low from what I have read on the internet. I have recently been diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis (which explains the back pain). I am HLA-B27 positive.

Any other Australians want to chat? :)

Re: Hello Australians
Hi - you must have been wondering if anyone would ever respond! I live in Sydney, also a Mum with one boy. He thought my red eye was a bit too scary to look at.

I just got iritis in August this year & still sorting out what it means - also still recovering. Occasional mild aches in my eye and slightly cloudy vision. Also HLA-B27 positive (just diagnosed, as a result of the iritis) and am checking out what the story is with my sore knees, occasionally sore lower back & general stiffness.

It looks like it will explain a few things about my health but is also a bit spooky. The iritis hit me out of the blue & of course no-one I knew had heard of it, they'd just stare at me blankly - until finally a guy I know said - oh yes, I've had that! What a relief.

Hope all is going well with you & would love to hear more about your experience.

Jill

Re: Hello Australians
Welcome to the group!
Ally lives in Brisbane and often posts on the main discussion forum. I encourage both of you to join us there as well as posting to this forum.
Have you found the treatment algorithm for HLA B27 related uveitis? Have you read throught the GLOSSARY available at this site? I encourage you to do so as it will make it allot easier to understand what the opthalmologist is saying as well as understanding material available at this site.

Once again, A big WELCOME!
Sincerely,
Mike Bartolatz

Re: Hello Australians
HI Mike,

Thanks for your welcome, I will have a look around. I don't get on the web very often for personal stuff as my eye's still a bit cloudy & as I said in the Iritis forum, I work on computers so I don't want to push it.
It is also a bit of a reality check to have this condition - I'm used to being the carer/ally as I have other family members with chronic health conditions & I work in the HIV field ... Feels really weird to be the 'patient'. Stops my thinking sometimes. The eye doc asked me if I ever have lower back pain & I said "oh, no", & later I remembered that I've had it on & off for years. In fact as if to remind me I got it that very night! :\ When I saw the rheumatologist I had all these other explanations for my sore knees & back etc - that may indeed be correct - I don't want to be thought a hypochondriac, & the pain's not constant so seems like I shouldn't take it seriously. Yes, yes, I know I should! The iritis had me very scared.

Re: Hello Australians
HLA B27 related uveitis can be a bugger to get under control and as such the sooner things besides steroids are used the better to keep those 'big guns' for a potential flare down the road.
Please join us in our main discussion forum. we have another lady named Jill that lives in Chicago USA and has also lived there in Oz too ;-) (ally from Brisbane always to your neck of the woods as 'Oz'

wish you the best and remember you are NOT alone and we are here to help you through this.

Most sincerely,
Mike Bartolatz

Re: Hello Australians
G'day Fellow Aussies,

I've only just discovered this part of the site today, so I am sorry that I haven't replied sooner! I'm Ally and as Mikey said, I hail from Brisbane. I've had uveitis for 14 years, since the age of seven. If you ever get the opportunity to spend more time on the computer/net, please join the discussion group or email me at groovyally_27@hotmail.com. There are a few other Aussies that are members of this group too, including Rose from Bundaberg, The Dwyer family from the Gold Coast and a new member, Barbara Worn, who is also from Brisbane.

Wishing you all the best and HOO ROO
Ally :)

I suggest that you post to the Parents Forum for feedback. there are allot of people with children with uveitis about the same age as your son. they will comfort and guide you. I am reposting this to the parents forum where you can respond.

Re: query my son has uveitis
Hi. We have a list of families in Australis whose children have uveitis. If you will drop me a note off board with your contact information, I would be glad to add you to that list and also provide the names of the other families.
Email: USG[AT]comcast[DOT]net

You are not alone.

Also, suggest that look around the board and read in the PARENT FORUM section. Here is the direct link if you would like to explore there.
