Hi from Melbourne , Australia
Hi all

I used to be a member of this board a couple of years ago (last time I had a flare up)

I have rejoined to get up-to-date with any recent info as I am having another flare up of anterior uveitis at the moment.

My opthomologist isn't fantastic, but does seem to know a resonable amount about the subject, I have had a few tests done to try and find an underlying cause (no surprises, I am HLA-B32 pos) but with no luck yet.

I am in my early 40's and this will be either my 4th or 5th flare up (we couldn't decide if my 2nd flare was a continuation of the first or a seperate one)

One of the things I have noticed is that with each flare I stop getting bruises (I normally bruise very easily) and I become allergic to mosquito bites.. this is the bit where I thing my optho falls down.. he just looks at me like I am crazy when I say this.

I also suffer from sore eyes in a monthly cycle, never a full 'flare' but enough to cause me to get an eye check every few months.

I havent yet had major vision loss.. and only my right eye has ever been affected.

The most annoying long term affect I have is a large permanent floater.. It looks like a blow fly, so I have named it 'Bob' and I swat at Bob frequently thinking he's a real fly.

Regards
Natalie

Re: Hi from Melbourne , Australia
hi natalie,
does this occur along with your period? some ladies flare up at this time in their cycle.

off had I can't recall a connection between HLA B32 and uveitis. did you mean HLA B27?

what mosquito borne illnesses occur in your area?
have you indicated to your primary care physician your bruising issues which can sometimes be linked to other systemic conditions?

please join us in the General discussion forum or the learning about uveitis forums of the site.

the large 'blowfly' sounds like a vitreous opacity from cells and other materials congealing the vitreous.
do you have intermediate or posterior uveitis? this type of thing is not normally associated with iritis or iridocylitis as they occur in the middle part of the eye.

do you live near Sydney where Dr Mcklusky (sp) is located?
he is the expert there in Australia if I recall correctly.
contact informatio can be found at www.uveitis.org in the patient information section of the site.

Wishing you the very best,
Mike
