Intercoms/Com Badges/...
Since some people didn't seem to be aware of their existence, I figured it'd be good to inform everyone ;) This is a slightly altered excerpt from the current Gold SF thread...

The intercoms that had been handed out after the initial team meeting sure were handy devices though maybe a bit cliché like the badge-like things they were. Usually, people would wear them somewhere on their chests to make sure the highly sensitive microphone would pick up their quietest whisper, the red “X” on black background having something of a target shouting “Please shoot me!” Then again, it was a dark shade of red and fortunately none of those flashy blinking gadgets that were bound to attract attention, a mild red glow that was only visible when you knew what you were looking for the only sign for an established connection. By default, the communicators, that had half the size of a grown man’s palm, were set to “auto-adjust” so that, no matter whether shouted or murmured, their voices would be clearly audible at the other end, the volume at which transmissions were to be emitted another thing that could be set according the what the situation demanded.

Due to the special frequency those intercoms are using, it is near impossible to intercept messages, the different varieties of it form an X-Men-internal web allowing everyone to communicate with one another, setting up "exclusive" connections between two people, several groups etc. For the team missions, however, the option to communicate with other teams has been disabled save for an emergency call that would be transmitted to everyone in relative proximity (meaning: X-Men on the island).

Team leaders have explained all those things after distributing the advanced devices also mentioning that they would all be set to a particular default at every mission’s beginning in case somebody had forgot to switch to the appropriate settings. Normally, it was not necessary to accept an incoming "call", a fact that had been misused for waking calls at insanely earlier hours more than just once - however, there was more than just one reason to it. Unless set differently though, to establish an outgoing connection, the X-Man has to shortly touch/lightly press the badge.

Note that only established members of the X-Men and students on teams would have such a com device! Regular students wouldn't!

"Being my own sensible and grown-up self I will go and make a stand saying that we are SO going to lose... starting farther off than anyone else, being a bunch of loners and all. Yet looking at the upside, at least we will never have points taken for cooperating with other teams."
