Iritis specialist in Toronto
Beside Dr Rabinovich (who has a very long waiting list, 3 months at least), does anybody know a good eye doctor with a good understanding of Iritis in Toronto?
I'm currently seeing, and have been since I was diagnosed with this condition a month ago, an eye doctor I don't particularly like ...
Hi,
My 61/2 years old daughter has just been diagnosed with Severe Uveitis and I am trying to get as much information as possible. She is been treated at Sick Children Hospital, but I don't feel the doctor seeing her has much experience in the area.
We has already booked an appoinment with Dr. Foster but was wondering in you ever found and specialist here in Toronto.
Thanks,
Re: Iritis specialist in Toronto
Dr. Derzko-Dzulynsky,
Office: (416) 760-8763
In addtion, she also works out of the Eye Clinic at Sunnybrooke Health Science Centre on Bayview Ave, Toronto, Ontario
the above opthalmologist has been recommended by DR Wade in Vancouver as a good source there in Toronto.
you are doing the right thing in getting a true specialist involved even if it means that you have to travel to see Dr Foster. the sooner the uveitis can be controlled and irradicted the better the long range outcome for children.
Wishing you and your child a safe trip to Cambridge to see dR Foster.

Re: Specialist in Toronto
It is fantastic that you are able to take your child to see Dr Foster in Cambridge. hopefully the increased dose of MTX will stop the inflammation and your child can get off of the corticosteroids too.
please fill us in on how the appointent with Dr Dzerko goes in Toronto too.
Wishing you and your child the very best,

Re: Iritis specialist in Toronto
Mike,
Thank you for your information about Dr Derzko. I was diagnosed a few weeks ago with birdshot chorioretinopathy. My mother had it as well. I live in Canada, but was lucky enough to see Professor Forrester two weeks ago,in Scotland my home country. Interestingly, he has never seen this disease be passed on in families before. I live north of Toronto, and will be seen by Dr Derzko in August for the first time. It is very reassuring to know that she has been recommended by other healthcare professionals.
Re: Iritis specialist in Toronto
I pray DR D can come up with a plan for you and it is very interesting that your Mom had birdshot as well. you might want to post a question to Dr Foster about familial birdshot to see if there might be an underlying autoimmune disease that could be attributed to it in his experience. at any rate, if blood samples are available for testing it might be a good research project for DNA associations.
you might read up on the 'white dot syndromes' too for information on treatment. I think there is material on this topic at www.uveitis.org do a general serch there and articles will come up.
Glad you got the appointment with Dr Forrester too. your advocacy will benefit you down the road.
here is a link to a canadian Doctors list developed some years ago by a member who died this past year but who we all loved dearly.
the Candian uveitis support organization may have updated the list.
It saddens me that your mom has had such a terrible experience. some people from Canada travel to the USA and pay out of pocket to see DR Foster (VERY EXPENSIVE) but if they can afford it, it is often worth the trip and piece of mind to know you have the BEST specialist in the World guiding care. you can check him out at his site: www.uveitis.org
wishing your mom the very best,
