Johnny Smith
Note: This character is based on the character Johnny Smith from the television series The Dead Zone. Obviously details have been altered and I haven't seen all episodes so things may be different but this is my take on him.
Name: Johnny Smith
Nickname: John,
Code Name: none
Affiliation: Good, co-operating with Xavier's and occationally police.
Gender: Male
Age: 33
Hair: blondish, average length and in a waved design
Eyes: bright blue eyes that pierce a person and see into them
Mother: Vera Smith
Father: Herbert Smith
Powers:
Johnny Smith is no mutant but he does have some interesting abilities. Thanks to a devestating car accident that left him in a coma for six years Johnny has gained some new abilities. When he woke up he found that his brain had changed the way it works and now taps into a part of the brain most call 'the dead zone'. This part of the brain contains powers of the psychic variety that allow Johnny to solve mysteries and prevent disastors.
Johnny now recieves visions of a prospective future that are object based. That is to say he recieves his visions when he touches certain objects, be they people or items. When he touches an object he can read moments from history where the object had been or where it may be in the future.
His visions can be of the variety where he watches what is happening as an objective viewer or he can see everything through the eyes of a person who was actually there. Although Johnny's visions can be influenced by his will and he can try and get visions he is never in complete control and his powers have a mind of their own. Johnny can't force visions upon himself and they may come upon him unwanted and without warning or may not come when he needs them most.
Because his powers are based in his mind they can be altered by mind altering drugs and other things that alter his perspective. He may end up seeing a warped version of reality for example if he is sick and is hallucinating. Johnny's powers are not 100 percent certain for that reason.
His visions of the future show only what may come to pass for the future is not definite. This means Johnny can use his powers to change the future and alter it to save lives. Unfortunently this means he can also make it worse even when he doesn't mean to.
Johnny also can sense psychic traces of the dead in places where they once walked and is more empathic than most although he cannot read emotions neccessarily, he can sometimes tell what a person is thinking.
Ultimately his powers are leading him towards something greater for they never show "normal" visions of someone mowing the lawn. His visions are always of danger or of something of importance, indicating that he has been chosen and that his powers are leading him towards his destiny of helping the world and saving it from distruction.
History:
Johnny was the only son of Herbert and Vera Smith. He was born in Cleaves Mills, a small town in Maine and was a part of a well off family. When he grew old enough Johnny attended Cleaves Mills High and was a good student but an even better athlete. He was the three time champion in hockey and set a record that to this day has not been broken. It was while playing hockey that he met the woman who he would love all his life. Sarah Bracknell became his good friend and they remained friends all through high school.
Later in life Johnny returned to school as a teacher. He was well liked with his students and loved his job very much. Sarah too had become a teacher and as she taught music and he biology the two began to date and spent some time in the Janitor's Closets between classes. Johnny was an excellent teacher and won the National Merit Award for teaching excellence.
It was during this time in his life that Johnny became engaged to Sarah and the two were a happy couple. He took her out one night to a carnival and won a ring that he placed upon her finger, one that she never threw out despite it being only a vending machine sort of ring. That night they made love and Sarah concieved his child although neither had any idea at the time. He drove her home and was returning home himself when the accident that would change his life occured.
Johnny was in a terrible accident and was sent to the hospital in critical condition. Most believed he wouldn't live for there was brain damage. He slipped into a coma and all lost hope although he remained in the Bangor Medical Center.
Six years later Johnny awakened with no idea of what had happened. After the accident and his brain damage were explainned to him Johnny touched the wrist of a nurse and was startled by the horrifying vision of her young daughter trapped in a fire. His vision led to the rescue to the nurse's daughter and a startling discovery.
Johnny recieved more flashes over the next hours and cried out for Sarah, unknowing that she had married the county sheriff and raised his child as their own.
Johnny progressed quickly through physical therapy and regained the use of this legs almost totally although he still requires a cane to walk. He continued to be shaken by visions of past, present and future of those he came into contact with as well.
Sarah visited Johnny later that week, triggering an awkward and painful reunion. A hug triggered a vision of Sarah explainning everything that happened during the six years of his life he lost including her marriage to Walt, her six year old son Johnny and the death of his mother Vera. He discovered that although Walt knows that the child is not his young Johnny believes that Walt is his father. Johnny told Sarah not to reveal the truth and assures her that he still loves her and always will but that she is free to be with Walt.
As time went on Johnny improved and his control over his powers grew. He used his powers to help and worked assisting the police department, headed by Walt, to solve cases as his visions could sometimes help. His new talent also brought with it unwanted public attention that he could not escape from try as he might.
A short while ago his world was shaken again as Sarah came over to return the ring he gave her the night of the accident and ended up in his arms. She returned to Walt guiltily and kept her distance from Johnny for the future. He on the otherhand was rocked by visions in which Washington is burning and the world in chaos, all these generated by touching Greg Stillson, a political candidate's hand. His glimpses into the politician's background don't help and Johnny began to investigate Stillson and still keeps an eye on him.
With Sarah needing some space from him Johnny moved, hoping to get away from the attention and intrigued by a vision of Xavier he recieved. He approached the school and spoke with Xavier, both of them coming to the agreement that each could use the help of the other. Johnny, missing his teaching ways, took up a position offered and now teaches at the school, observing the mutants and helping to keep them safe as well as solving any other visions that he may have and fine tuning his gifts.
He keeps in contact with his friends back in Maine and talks with Sarah when he can but knows that both of them need space to figure out exactly where they stand in their relationship with eachother so for the moment they are keeping their distance.
Personality:
Johnny is, in one word, perceptive. Whether it is because of his abilities or something totally different he is extremely perceptive to people around him and can often tell at least something about their motives even without a touch. He is also devoted, caring greatly for Sarah and for his son yet not wanting to intrude too far into their loves. He cares enough for Sarah to want her to be happy, even if it is without him. As most with such powers are, Johnny can feel extreme emotions including great guilt when something happens, often feeling he is responsible. In some ways he holds the weight of the world on his shoulders. He can be somewhat distant from reality thanks to the fact that he does recieve visions, some of which he keeps to himself but ultimately wants to help people and cares little about publicity or money.
Likes:
Sarah, teaching, being able to help people.
Dislikes:
Publicity, Greg Stillson, Those who mock him and don't take his gift seriously.
