Other Physical Details:
Large crimson red wings spread from his back. Jay used to have a tattoo of his wing on his arm but due to the healing blood it seems to have erased it and made him 'tattoo proof'. The winged young man is striking, attractive though consumed by woe and tending to be down or merely 'ok'. He isn't one to be joyous over many things and finds solace in his music. He's expression is usually placid, a calm yet slightly sad look. Like most mutants, he has his troubled past.
Mother: Lucinda Guthrie / alive / marvel
Lucinda is the mother of the tribe, and has appeared in pretty much all of the Guthrie storylines. Where Thomas has had many names, Lucinda has had many hair colours. Over the years she has been grey, blonde, brown, red and black. She's always seen wearing her faithful checkered shirt however.
Father: Thomas Zebulon “Ty“ Guthrie / deceased / marvel
Thomas is the father of the large tribe of Guthries. He was already dead by the time the Guthries made their first appearance, and has only appeared in flashbacks. Thomas died while working in the mines, which many Guthrie sons ended up following in his footsteps. He's also had quite a few names, most recently being called Zeke in the She Lies With Angels Uncanny X-Men arc.
Other Important Relatives or People in their lives:
-Samuel Zachery Guthrie aka Cannonball / alive / marvel
Sam is the oldest child, and the first to show his mutant powers. He discovered his powers while working in the mines with his father, blasting himself to freedom when the mine collapsed. He became a member of the New Mutants, before working up to X-Force and then finally he became an X-Man. Sam is worshipped by most of his younger siblings because of his powers, but some of the older ones, particularly Josh, felt resentment towards him for leaving home and rarely making anymore contact.
-Paige Guthrie aka Husk / alive / marvel
Paige was next to manifest her powers. She wanted so much to be a mutant like her brother that she tried everything to find out what her power would be. Eventually she found out that she could 'husk', changing underneath her skin to another form, such as rock. She became a member of Generation X before moving up to become an X-Man as well. For a while it was assumed that Paige was younger than Josh, but it was recently cleared up that she is the second oldest child.
-Joelle Guthrie / alive / marvel
Joelle is next in line after Josh, and one of the rare few not shown to have a mutant power yet. Like Josh she was jealous of her other sibling's powers, which led to her joining a cult called Humanity's Last Stand. She however left the group when they attacked Sam and Paige and helped in exposing them.
-Elizabeth Guthrie / alive / marvel
Elizabeth hasn't had too much action in the regular comic universe, and so far hasn't shown any mutant powers either. However, she did appear in the Age of Apocalypse universe with the codename Amazon, where her powers allowed her to change in size. This same power has never been used or even hinted at in reality however.
-Melody Guthrie / alive / marvel
Melody was only just recently named in the pages of Uncanny X-Men, for many years being the only unnamed Guthrie left. So far it is unclear just what her power is, as it has only appeared in two panels, a kind of forcefield surrounding her body and (perhaps because of this) the ability to fly. She joined the Institute at the same time as Josh, but isn't seen all that often.
-Jeb Guthrie / alive / marvel
Jeb just recently manifested his own powers, the ability to shoot electricity from his eyes. Always distinguishable because of his glasses, he no longer wears them, perhaps because of his powers. He too has had a change in hair colour, going from red to now brown. It was thought for a while Jeb may join the Institute with his siblings, but it didn't pan out.
-Lewis Guthrie and twin sister / alive / marvel
While it has never been stated, Lewis and his so far unnamed sister appear to be twins. The two are rarely apart, appear the same age and height, and have the same hair and eye colour. They also appear to take great joy in running amok, particularly in annoying Josh. So far neither have shown any hints of powers either.
-Lucas Bartholemew Guthrie / alive / marvel
Luke is the uncle of the Guthrie children, younger brother to Thomas. He is currently in prison for Grand Theft Auto. Despite Sam's offer to break him out of jail, Luke wants to remain and do his time, planning on going straight once he gets out.
-Noriko Ashida / alive / marvel
Noriko is one of Josh's New Mutant teammates, and the one he instantly struck up a friendship with. Although the two are polar opposites, this seems to have worked in their favour, and they get along very well. Josh understands the fact that she's outspoken and direct, and she seems to appreciate the fact that he's internal. Noriko has also helped Josh somewhat through his depression by allowing him to realise what he still has. She envies the fact that he has a huge family, while she has been outcast from her own. The two seem to have an unspoken understanding, and are likely to form a strong bond in the future.
-Sammy / …presumably deceased / marvel
Sammy was Josh's roommate at the Institute. He was quite a few years younger, but due to his unique power and obvious ‘fish’ like mutations had already been fast tracked to becoming an X-Man. Sammy liked to talk a lot and have fun, the total opposite of how Josh had been feeling at the time they met. He did however succeed in getting Josh to talk about his feelings regarding Julia, and the pair got along quite well. Sadly, Sammy died when the Brotherhood attacked the mansion at one point and Josh hadn’t taken well to adjusting to life in the school without his friend and roommate for quite some time.
-Manuello / alive / marvel
Manuello was the only member seen of Josh's old band, and looked to be his closest friend at that point in his life. The pair seemed very similar - both greatly enjoyed music, girls and the rock and roll lifestyle. Manuello seemed to be one of the very few privy to the fact that Josh was a mutant, that his wings weren't just a stage act. He had no problem with the fact, but knew that many other people would, and feared losing his 'singer/songwriter' if people ever found out. He also pushed Josh to be with Julia, so that he could be happy and stop moaning about her.
Personality:
Somewhat detached and yet looking for a connection. It’s hard to understand him at times because he tends to be very withdrawn and keep things to himself unless someone seems genuinely interested in his problems or opinions. An introvert needing to sort through the many happenings his life, he was reluctant for a while to be part of the school… part of the ‘freakshow’. Now things are settling down and the idea of being a hero, an X-men, has slowly began to dawn upon him.
He reaches out for people without making too obvious an effort, as far as he cares half the time he’d rather be alone and for the first few months of his time at Xavier’s that’s exactly what he had done, seclude himself from the student body. He may not think of himself like a hero, but gradually, he has started to think and talk more like one, something the teachers have a better notice over then Jay himself. His personality may seem rather snobby at times when he is in his down moods and prefers not to talk, but he hasn’t fallen to those lows for a little while now. The teachers hope he’s making progress, and Jay himself is finding things more relaxed and more promising around the school.
Likes:
Flying. For the freedom it offers him.
Music. He adores playing music and it’s one of the few ways he can truly express himself without feeling awkward.
Julia. …His first love.
Dislikes:
His Healing Blood. Death is his option, and it stole that choice from him.
Powers and/or Skills:
Aerodynamic physiology gives him peak human strength, speed, aerial agility, endurance, reflexes, eyesight, and hearing, a hollow bone structure, zero body fat, and large feathered wings extending from his shoulder blades that enable him to fly and serve as solar collectors to heat his body, and a healing effect in his blood that increases his regenerative abilities.
Wings:
Icarus' most obvious mutation. Red in colour like his hair, when exactly Icarus got them hasn't been revealed, but they are fairly recent. Like wing-bearers before him, Icarus originally hid them to get around in public without being noticed. However, being a stage man he would fully reveal them while performing with his band, and the audience simply assumed they were stage tricks. He has a fairly large wingspan, and already has a masterful control over flight, easily able to keep up with the likes of his brother Cannonball through crowded forests and tight turns. Even Julian, who admittedly isn't Icarus' biggest fan, has remarked on his flying skills on occasion.
Healing Blood:
Icarus' most recent, and his most hated mutation. Discovered while trying to kill himself, Icarus' healing blood effectively makes him invulnerable to just about anything. It has been suggested that not even a broken neck would be enough to stop him now, nor direct piercing to the heart. This blood only works on himself however, unlike other healers it has no effect when applied to others. Plus, although it seems unable to heal scars made before the mutation occurred, it has made Icarus 'tattoo proof'. Although Icarus got his tattoo before this particular power kicked in, over time it gradually erased it, and it seems unlikely that ink will ever be able to stay put on his body again.
Voice:
Long thought to be Icarus' original power, it has recently resurfaced in interesting ways. Icarus has the ability to make his singing voice sound so incredibly beautiful, it's as if the angels themselves are singing. We can assume Icarus used this to his advantage while in his band, but he's also found uses for it elsewhere, such as taming dragons and reaching certain frequencies required to unlock locks.
Musician:
Jay is a fantastic singer, a choir of angels seem to be the words often used to describe his astonishing vocals. He can also play the guitar and writes song lyrics.
History:
Ok, I have some issues here… I want him to be a new character, yet the dude would be in his thirties by now, oddly enough he’d be the age Rogue is now board time XD. So…Considering NE was a ‘creative RPG’ being the reason we allowed the ages to be somewhat altered a few years here and there and what not, I have a question. Are we still doing the whole with ‘warped’ characters .. coz I realized we sorta fell out of that habit basically from the get off from NE.
Also, depend on his acceptance or not, I’ll edit/add to his history. Obviously have to alter some of the team names since the last year we haven’t had these people nor have we had Ms Frost as an active member at the school or on teams…Or I was thinking we make it the year before last he could have arrived and at that point those other teams were part of the school, it could give people that two year gap to do whatever they want if anyone else may happen to actually want to play one of these Academy X mutants.
This is the extended version of his bio after over an hour of hunting for info… what’s with Marvel and it’s fondness of secrecy/lack of details?
The third oldest child (seemingly) in the voluminous Guthrie clan, Josh was forced to grow up at a young age when he replaced his brother Sam as the family's father-figure. When Sam left Cumberland County to join the original New Mutants, Josh was forced to give up his dreams of being the next Elvis and work in the same coal-mines that had taken his father's life, in order to support the family. Initially, angry at Sam (and later Paige) for abandoning the family and forcing him to give up his dreams, Josh had negative views towards mutants and did not want to be one himself. He has since relaxed his view, which is lucky as it was recently revealed that he is a mutant himself. (Here, it should be noted that Josh was proven not to be a mutant in the Age of Apocalypse storyline and the Phalanx did not find him to be a mutant when they kidnapped Paige.) Despite the heavy weights on his shoulders, Josh built up a fairly successful music career for himself, starting a local band in which he acted as singer/songwriter. When his wings developed, he hid them from both the community, as mutants were not well liked, and also from his family. Josh did display his wings while on stage, however, but everyone believed that they were just part of the act - a costume rather than a real part of him.
When he began a passionate romance with local girl, Julia Cabot, Josh found himself deeply in love for the first time. Unfortunately, Julia's father hated mutants and the Guthrie family, and so considered Josh unworthy of his daughter. He set out to destroy not only Josh, but his entire family. The result was the death of both Josh himself and Raymond, his mother's boyfriend. Distraught at Josh's death, Julia dragged him into the lake where they had first met, drowning as she sank to the bottom with him. At this point, Josh's healing powers activated, reviving him. Desperately, he swum to the surface and attempted to bring Julia back to life. Unfortunately, his healing power is limited to him and so he could not save her. Josh attempted to kill himself after this, but his healing power prevented this until he finally admitted defeat. Grief-stricken, he agreed to his mother's suggestion that he become a student at the Xavier Institute of Higher Learning.
Arrived at the school he renamed himself Jay, which only the members of his band had previously called him, in an attempt to sever all ties to his past and the painful memories held there. He was assigned Emma Frost as his supervisor and chose the codename of Icarus for himself, referring to the Greek legend of the boy with wax wings who flew too close to the sun, resulting in the loss of both his wings and his life. Soon after, he became part of the Hellions training squad. Jay made little effort to hide his dislike of most of his teammates, particularly disliking Julian Keller. The only member of the Hellions he could be said to be friendly to is Sooraya Qadir. When the Hellions decided to go against orders and 'rescue' Kevin Ford from the custody of the F.B.I., Jay refused to help them and instead gathered the New Mutants to help him stop the Hellions. When they were successful, Jay requested he be transferred to the New Mutants squad.
Well, as said I don't see a problem with changing his personal timeline - he doesn't seem to have been in close contact with any of the cannons we have around so it should be just fine.
Except for the slightly short history (which you said you'd be adding to anyway), I think all's fine *nods* if you could add something to the personality, that'd be awesome but it's not exactly necessary *nods*

"Being my own sensible and grown-up self I will go and make a stand saying that we are SO going to lose... starting farther off than anyone else, being a bunch of loners and all. Yet looking at the upside, at least we will never have points taken for cooperating with other teams."
