Lola-Toyota
Thanks for the discussion group.
I am relatively new to the CSR group. I started coming from Canada to race at Brainerd in regional razes in 1996 with a vintage 1974 Johnson/March CSR powered by a home brewed Toyota. Combined with my Canadian experience I was able to get a National license and travelled to Blackhawk and Road America.
During the 1999-2000 winter I looked for a "newer" chassis that would have some parts available. I was ble to make a deal with Jim Stinehelfer for his Lola T8690 S2000 car as Jim was racing his Ralt-Mazda in CSR. I converted the car to the 1600 Toyota (we had given up building our own engines and had an engine builder do it for us!). The 1999 season was more successful and I managed to get to enough races and collect enough points to qualify to the runoffs. As a goal I had since starting with SCCA, I was able to get there before the new milleneum.
Continuing to make some changes to the Lola for the new season, I applaud everyone's attempts to attract more entries for the 2000 season. I cannot conceive what I would have to do with my investment in my car and equipment if we should not make the "numbers".
I look forward to meeting more of you during the year.
