Money and Currency
By all the information, and a few quotes, we can determine the currency of Middle-earth and how much it is worth:
Quote: "Bill Ferny had one that he might possibly sell. `A poor half-starved creature it is,´ said Bob; `but he won't part with it for less than thrice it's worth, seeing how you're placed, not if I knows Bill Ferny´ "
Quote: "Bill Ferny's price was twelve silver pennies; and it was indeed at least three times the pony's value in those parts."
Both these indicate that they used silver pennies, or pence, in the Northern parts of the world. That means I'll say we use Silver Pence as currency in the NKoA. However, there are other quotes.
Quote: "Baggins has left", he answered in a whisper. "He is coming. He is not far away. I wish to find him. If he passes you will you tell me? I will come back with gold."
This means there is also gold. Screw that. We're using silver pennies. Have a good day, I will see you all IC.
