More OOmmph!!
I just rececntly bought a VL for my first car. Im very happy with it, but it seriously needs a few mods to get that extra power i need. Its just a standard SL 86 model, standard 5 speed 3 litre fuel injected 6. Its also got the stock exhaust system on it.
I was talking to a local about how i want more power out of it. After telling him of quotes of 2 1/2" sports lukey exhaust system, he said, "yeah that would improve it a bit, but if you want to get more power outa a VL, get the commodore chip out of it and put the skyline chip in it"
The sports exhaust is a definate project in the near future, as i want the car to breathe better and sound better as it currently sounds quiet, but when giving it a squirt sounds shocking. I wanna get the fumes out quicker.
This idea with the skyline chip however really grabbed my attention, as the 3 litre motor is actually nissan from the skyline of that time, i found out when i was younger.
I'd just like to know what the effects would be if i did get hold of the chip and changed it over, the cost, and would it cause any damage to the engine or car ie: cam, pistons, gearbox etc, cos i really want that extra oomph of power but if changing chips is not the way to do cos of mechanical problems it may cause then i want to steer clear of that area.
Give me your thoughts, thanks.
