He developed his powers through a gene in his Aunt Lana Duvais, a mutant with powers of wish granting.
Powers: Murphy's Law Curse
Murray's power is one of the oddest and least predictable fo powers found in mutants. He possesses the ability to make everything that possibly can go wrong go wrong. Unfortunently what goes wrong can be absolutely anything. For example if Murray cursed someone so they would miss their bus anything could happen from a stop sign turning red so they miss their bus to a bus accident which kills four people. This part of Murray's power is uncontrollable except for a strong amount of concentration that leaves him emotionally and physically drained. If he really does need to control things this extra amount of effort added to a reletivly simple power which doesn't leave him tired can put him in bed for weeks but will end up with predictable results at least.
Murray can curse nearly anything from a small event, such as a person so that they will miss their bus or a larger event like a construction project or a death. From bad experiences in the past though he has been working with Xavier to better the control over his powers and rarely uses them except in a true emergency.
Murray can curse specific things, which generally ends up with a better result, and more general things, including a person's life in general. Since the first person he cursed strongly ended up paralyzed though he has never since cursed a person no matter how evil they may be.
His powers can be helpful or harmful and similarly have devestating or fantastic results. The next task is for Murray to fully take control of his powers so he doesn't hurt any more people accidently.
History:
Murray was born to two very loving parents and was their only child. He was raised in South Africa and developed a South African accent and made many friends as a carefree child. At age 9 disastor struck as his mother died of cancer and he was left to be raised by only his father. The two bonded and became very close because now all they had was eachother.
When at thirteen Rory Grey began to date another woman Murray grew angry and drew back. Michelle reached out to Murray though and he became attached and very protective of her daughter Jacqueline, his stepsister. A few years later when it became apparent that the pair were going to get married Murray was mature enough to understand that it was only natural for his father to love someone else and that his father had never forgotten and never would forget him or his true mother. It took some settling in and Murray may never be as close to his stepmother as he was to his mother and father but he does care for Michelle and has fully accepted her as a part of the family. His step sister and he are extremely close and he regards her as a true sister. It also helped that she was one of the few people who still treated him normally after finding out about his mutant abilities.
It was later than most when Murray's strange powers manifested themselves, in fact he was 16 at the time and convinced that he could deal with his powers alone. After a few accidents though it became obvious that he had nothing nearing control over his cursing abilities. His father and stepmother became scared, not of him but of him hurting someone accidently, and sought out someone to help him. What they found was the Xavier Institute. At seventeen Murray left for the institute reluctantly. He had basically thrown his life away out of fear for himself and what he would do to those he loved and wanted only to be isolated.
Now, two years later, Jacqueline is showing the first signs of developing mutant powers herself and Murray has vowed to be there for her always. He goes home whenever he can to visit her and they talk on the phone everynight. All in all despite some setbacks Murray has a comfortable home life and a family he loves. It is only his fear of what he has become and what he might become that holds him back. He has gained much control over his powers through Xavier's guidance and continues to train with others who have potentially dangerous powers to control them and to use his abilities to benefit others.
Personality:
Murray's fear of hurting people through his powers has long kept him from getting too close to anyone. He is extremely creative and loves to express himself through the creative arts and immerse himself in ancient literature, history and mythology. Although Murray may seem distant at first he is a loyal friend with a sharp wit and great intelligence, not to mention his ear for listening to other's problems. He does sometimes make friends but prefers to be left alone to his own devices. For that reason his room is his home and he doesn't appreciate roommates. Like many artists Murray can be tempermental but is also a good guy who is a hopeless romantic and extremely sensitive beneath his thick skin. He would do anything for the person he loves and rejection is what he fears more than anything.
Likes: writing, mythology, new languages, the computer, playing his guitar, helping people, his family, being left alone
Dislikes: hurting people, evil, bullying, heights, rejection, crowds, his powers

Very nice original power L of A. I am very impressed. A few questions on the power though.
Is there anyone who is immune or any situations where he could not use his power on someone? Is there any way to block this power? i.e. Superman's X-ray vision can't see though lead. What whould happen is the power was used on a mutant with probability altering powers? i.e. Domino. ((Somthing quite comical, I'd think)) Is there any way one of his 'curses' can be lifted?
He can lift a curse himself but since his power to reverse his own curses is limited it takes a great amount of effort and he has many problems with this part. It can be done though and he is training more to find out about and train with this aspect of his powers.
The altering powers would depend on the power and the curse but something unexpected would probably happen, possibly on the comical side.
If someone's power goes against the curse and can nullify it then they would be imune to his powers. It goes more on the side of changing the curse and perhaps making it funny or happy than being immune for most people though.
There isn't really a limit to his powers except that good luck charms and others uch things representing good luck can occationally bounce a curse back and can change it around or other such things with comic, devestating or joyful results.
