My Sandtrooper pix
Well, I decided to do it....I just finished, only the front so far, still gotta weather the boots and Pack also. I went ahead and used the stuff I found last year when I was playing around with the idea of going dirty. I used Woodland Scenics liquid Pigments. They come in SEVERAL types of earth tones. It's liquid but when applied to plastic with a sponge and let dry, it turns to a dust. Once fully dry, it sticks to the ABS pretty good but with some pressure or a damp cloth it will come right off!!! Some of you may remember the test pieces I did last year, I recently got them out to see if the Pigment damaged the ABS at all.... NOPE!!! It came right off with a wet cloth and the ABS looks just like the day I got it!
Here's some pix so far, I added 3 colors to the Helmet, only 2 colors on the armor so far:
Re: My Sandtrooper pix
ok that cinches it...I have been thinking about using that stuff since you first mentioned it because I am big wuss when it comes to my pile of expensive plastic...
now that I know it is reversable I will do it as soon as I get done reglueing stuff
what colors did you use?

Re: My Sandtrooper pix
I used Burnt Umber for most of the suit, it has that good dirt look. I also used Yellow Ocher for sand touch ups and also used Stone Gray and a little concrete... just do it by layers! If you don't like it.....WIPE it off!! That easy!! Have FUN!!!
Re: My Sandtrooper pix
I have begun working on this type weathering as well and let me say that it is a LOT of work if you want to get it right. It is VERy easy to fall into a repeating pattern that doesn't look natural or realistic. I posted these pics at the RPF but I will post them here too. Thanks to CLiff for helping me make mine look more natural!!!
Final Weathering:
First attempt that looked was too unnatiral and repetitive:

shoulder piece
Nice! the new one looks much better as some patches of dark dirt (grease even?) are present. The first one looked too even. In the movies they looked like they had crawled around inside sand crawlers or some dirty places (looking for rebels hiding) not just sand. I am thinking of one shot that shows a large smear on the chest piece on one that was near the pod I think. It might even be cool to put on some blast marks on the armor somewhere too, like that one combat damaged armor that was put on ebay. I wish I could post a pic but don't know how. Looking great so far, Lets see the rest!
