NEW Genesis P. Orrdidge CD!!!!
Here's the blurb for those of you who missed the link via Brainwashed to Important Records:

imrpec035
Genesis P-Orridge
When I Was Young
$14.99

"As the world awaits the remarkable reunion of Throbbing Gristle and a subsequent studio album from the group, this surprise full length from Throbbing Gristle and Psychic TV founder Genesis P-Orridge, and produced by Astrid Monroe, has been slowly coming to fruition and it arrives with perfect timing. The true identity of Astrid Monroe has been kept a secret from all parties involved in the release of this CD. His production work is the only indication we have of who this gifted artist could possibly be. Slow, deliberate and lushly orchestrated, the eccentric instrumentation swirls pensively around audio tracks created by Genesis P-Orridge almost as if P-Orridge was the leader of a more adventurous Portishead or possibly even Massive Attack. Dark and dreamy, When I Was Young is a surprisingly unique addition to the P-Orridge catalog. It's emphasis on P-Orridge's unique word play, voice and annunciation create an eloquently pronounced lyrical and music journey."*

***Can't wait!Sounds promisingly beautiful!***

New Genesis P-Orridge Album
I received a promo of the CD a few days ago from Important Records. It comes in one of the cute anti-static bags like some of the Raster-Noton releases, with a bunch of little black plastic stars floating around the package. The CD is in a clear case with no sleeve or liner notes whatsoever, just the song names printed on the disc itself.

I popped it in immediately, and HOLY @#%$ what an abject, miserable disappointment.

It's basically just Gen doing the same raps from the Thee Majesty album with a bunch of tepid, overwrought, self-conscious Massive Attack/Portishead-style trip-hop backing that might have sounded fresh about 10 years ago.

The same When I Was Young, Eshu Yes You, Look at that Picture crap that Gen has recycled ten million times before. How sad and pathetic. I think he believes that if he just keeps repeating this stuff mantrically ad nauseum, it will suddenly become meaningful or profound. He is sadly mistaken.

In my view, at least, this album is a spectacular waste of time. My review in The Brain will certainly reflect this.

Oh man, how dissappointing. I haven't received it yet but I fully understand what you mean about the regurgitation. I was really hoping this would be something really fresh and new, but I DID have a feeling from the title it might be the same old rehashed material. Surely he has more ideas than getting all these plastic surgeries!

Of course I'll judge for myself upn listening, but I already trust the responses above.

Bummer.

"new" GPO
Well, it came yesterday. Same look as yours, and I feel the same way about it pretty, I mean, it's kind of nice w/ the vocal distortions and some of the music isn't bad, but I am not into that "trip-hop" genre at all and have never liked Portishead OR Massive Attack (Especially them!).

He's got to have something else to say! Why can't he do something about his a Lady Jay's "transformation" or something instead of retreading the same @#%$? I felt that w/ A Hollow Cost, Breathe, Spatial Memory and many others, including his "essays"!

Good lord Gen, I L-OV-E ya, but ya need some new material.

My only hope/guess is he's busy writing new songs for the new PTV3 album and I KNOW he's working w/ all the TG members on a new album and preparing for that live show. Hopefully, the new PTV won't be a re-issue of Trip Reset or something w/ different musicians! Or a remix album of songs from the past!

I'm very interested in that GODSTAR thingy- anyone know where to get it? Is it actually released yet? His website doesn't say much in the way of this. It didn't even mention the last 2 7" singles OR this "new" album!

BTW- the Snowflake/Elusive 7" is great, even though I had those songs on tape from years ago that he himself gave to me along with the demos for Trips Reset and some other unreleased things. Of course I promised nevber to copy them for anyone, and I haven't cuz I stand by my word. ABOLISH FEAR ESTABLISH TRUST!

Anyway, at this point, nothing would surprise me!

Gen's "new album"
It's not new though it's a reissue of an album from a couple of years back that came out on a Polish label.
