NICE and infliximab - unwelcome news
Over the next fifteen days, NICE are considering withdrawing NHS prescriptions for this drug in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. Humira and enbrel will continue to be prescribed - they cost £5,000 a year less.
The newspaper report did not make clear if infliximab will still be prescribed for other auto immune conditions, such as Bechet's and uveitis. Infliximab will still be prescribed for patients in Scotland who, it seems, can access macugen and lucentis on the NHS.
Has any one had a dicussion with their rheumatologist about this? I've had three infusions of infliximab and I'm worried.

My rheumatologist rang me this morning, knew nothing about this - he was out of the country last week, and said, 'It won't happen, rheumatologists won't allow this to happen.'

I do so hope that he's right and that they won't need to fight to stop it! But it does sound like you have the right rheumatologist there though...
