Nevada NERV/Fed Special Forces Base, the Desert Eagle's Nest
From above, this appeared to be the average Federation Space Force base, but underneath the large base was a geofront... one of two, the third destroyed at the end of the war. This was the Nevada NERV base, and the main front of NERV operations. Normally, this base was filled with a bunch of men exercising, planes taking the MSs out to the training grounds, and the rare large cargo plane taking out large objects draped in cloth.

Today, however, the base was full of activity, and instead of a plane on the nearby runway, it was a battleship, a Pegasus class.

"Pilots Ikari and St. Clair, report to the base commander's office IMEMDIATELY. I repeat, pilots Ikari and St. Clair..." a young woman's voice said, the message relayed to the intercom system. The base commander, a rather large, tubby... well, let's stop being nice. A VERY fat man, sat in his chair, a woman sitting in a chair on the otherside of his desk.

"So, that's all?" she asked, as he pushed an envelope across the desk... getting it only halfway. He grunted, trying to push it a bit further, but she leaned over and saved him the hassle by snatching it up.

"Yes. This should cover any worries you have with the plan," he said, sweating profously, as she nodded, smiling.

"Oh, I'm sure it will."

But it was no use. Wuth shook the vending machine with all his might and his package of Cheetos refused to budge. He punched the "return change" button five or six times, but the satisfying "chink" evaded him. "Why the hell does this thing always do this to me!? And why hasn't it been fixed!? Everyone knows I need my Cheetos!"

Wuth removed his shoe and dropped to one knee. "Every week I'm swindled out of my money, and every week I complain. You would think they would get sick of hearing me bitch! But no! They must enjoy... it... or something."

Wuth slid his arm into the tray of the vending machine. With the shoe in hand, he twisted his arm up into the bowels of the machine. It seemed that the shoe would add just enough length to reach the jammed tray that held his snack. He gave the bag a poke and it fell onto it's side. The advantage was his now. All he had to do was knock it down... "Pilots Ikari and St. Clair, report to the base commander's office IMEMDIATELY! I repeat, pilots Ikari and St. Clair..."

Wuth jumped when the speaker next to the machine squacked the message right into his ear. "Awww... crap... oh well... I'll just get this bag and then... Oh no..."

Wuth's face lit up with pure terror as he tugged at his shoe. It wouldn't budge. He peeked up through the glass on the machine to see that a bad situation had just got exponentially worse. "I repeat! Pilots Ikara and St. Clair, report to the Comander's office NOW!"

Wuth was forced to make a difficult decision. He let go of his beloved sneaker and pulled himself up to his feet. "Gawd... I'll just get the damn janitor to open up the vending machine later."

Wuth took off down the hallway towards the Commander's office. He stopped in front of the office with the NERV insignia on the floor. As he entered the office, he could hear the triumphant squeels of the lucky bastard that got his shoe... and two bags of Cheetos.

The brown-haired, blue-eyed pilot of Unit 01 was in a different lounge area on the opposite of the base from where Wuth was, studying his materials from Japan. Even if Shinji Ikari was the prized pilot of Unit 01 from NERV's Japan branch, he was still a regular jr. high student. He still had to do his schoolwork, even when he was attending sorties overseas.

A book sat on his lap while an earpiece was in each ear, playing a set of classical music. The young teen was wearing khaki colored slacks and a light blue t-shirt. It was simple, yet effective; just what Shinji liked. Nothing too complicated had always been what Shinji liked, which was probably why he did not get along very well with his red-headed partner, Asuka. Among the other pilots that he knew fairly well, there was Rei Ayanami and Wuth St. Clair. The former was a bit distant from everyone, and the latter was friendly but seemed a bit odd as well.

Hearing the announcment from the speakers throughout the military facility calling for both him and Wuth, Shinji closed his book and put it in his book bag. Slinging the bag over his shoulder, Shinji made his way to the nearest elevator and set a course to the commander's office. Unlike Wuth, he had no need to rush and took his time getting there, arriving only moments after his fellow pilot.

"Ah... Wuth... hello..." he greeted the teen, offering a light smile and a wave as he stepped into the room. However, he knew this wasn't the place to be overly friendly; this was work.

"Shinji Ikari, reporting in." he spoke once more, standing up straight and next to Wuth, awaiting for the commander to speak with him.

Re: Nevada NERV/Fed Special Forces Base, the Desert Eagle's
"Ikari, St. Clair, have a seat," the chubby base commander said practically ordering them to do so, as a screen formed in front of his desk.

"Awwww, how cute! I didn't know that GATA had an ROTC program!" The woman said, getting up and pincing Wuth and Shinji's cheeks. The base commander, while enjoying the view this gave him, cleared his throat, his eyebrow twitching.

"Ms. Nikolai, has a seat. The briefing's about to begin... and those are full-fledged pilots you're harassing."

"Feh, you're no fun," she replied, pulling her seat over and putting it between the other two seats.

The hologram projected what was shown on his screen, and he quickly put in his username and password, as the briefing began, a male's voice, the General assaigned to the area, coming from the speakers in the room.

"At 0900 hours this morning, the new battleship for the GATA space force, the Super Dimensional Fortress MACROSS, began its maiden voyage. As you two may know, Pilot Sohryu and Dr. Rose Pliskin, who's one of the medical advisors to the NERV facility there and, apparently, knows you two VERY well..." This invoked a knowing giggle from the young woman... boy, add insult to pain, eh? "... Was assaigned to the Kestrel, which went there to transfer a pilot and vehicle to the MACROSS. As the MACROSS attempted to use its Fold System for the first time, the system malfunctioned, and launched the ship to the Pluto colonies. Anderson quickly had the Kestrel head for the Urenbeck Catapult and be launched to join up with the MACROSS. From radio transmissions we've recieved from both ships, they've met up with heavy resistance. One of the Pluto colonies has been destroyed, and along with it, thousands of innocent lives. However, that does NOT matter right now. What does is that we get the MACROSS and the Kestrel back to Earth." The woman , who was dressed in a long, baggy trenchcoat, let out an awed whistle.

"Pilots Ikari and St. Clair, you two are to accompany the woman in front of you and her frame to the Urenbeck Catapult... where all three of you will be launched, along with your mechas. Unfortunately, we don't have any ships to spare... so you'll all be launched across the universe with no protection against the speed. You are to survey the area and meet up with the Kestrel and the MACROSS, should both still be in the area. We believe that the DC is the enemy, so anything that has a DC signal coming from it is to be considered a bogey."

"As there's no time to lose, all three of you will have to head directly to the transport ship. In it is an arsenal of weaponry that's suited for close and medium-range combat, as 02 was equipped with long range and close combat weaponry," the commander said as the computer logged off and the hologram disappeared.

"Alright... finally, some action!" Nikolai said, standing up and smiling. She undid her coat, before tossing it off... revealing a rather tight runner's suit. As all Federation OFs are unmanned, this meant one thing... and since there was no BAHRAM logo on her chest or arms, the only possible solution was that she was a freelancer, a mercenary... which explains the rather provocative piloting suit. "Thanks for letting me use your coat, commander, but I don't think I'll need it anymore. The average Pegasus class's A/C is horrible."

"No, thank YOU, 'mam," the pudgy man said under his breath, grinning a bit, before shaking his head a bit, slamming his fist on his desk. "Well, what're you three waiting for? Get to that ship, on the double!"

"Yes sir!" She gave a half-hearted salute, before starting for the door.

Wuth felt like he had just been hit by a semi truck. All this information seemed like a little much to dump on a kid at once. Why hadn't he heard that the outer colony had been destroyed? And this ditzy woman next to him seemed a tad too enthused. Wuth watched for a little 'jiggle' when she leaped to her feet and removed the coat revealing a sexy runner suit.

'A runner... A mercenary... It figures.' Wuth thought as he stood up and saluted the commander. 'I can't believe we're being babysitted by this ditz.'

Wuth started towards the door, anxious to leave. If he hurried, he might catch the guy that took his shoe. As he left, Wuth sighed and looked towards Shinji. He made a face as to say, 'This is so lame.' and walked out of the office.

Re: Nevada NERV/Fed Special Forces Base, the Desert Eagle's
While the information given to the pilots was slightly overwhelming, this wasn't exactly the most difficult or mind-blowing mission an Eva pilot has been on. Besides, it's not like Shinji's father, Gendo, was explaining the mission to them. As long as they didn't have to be stared at by Gendo's cold, seemingly lifeless eyes, any other mission briefing seemed to be fine.

Once this strange, bouncy young woman revealed her runner suit, Shinji couldn't help but feel his cheeks pinken just a bit. Runner suits were similar to Eva pilots' plug suits, but seeing a new woman in something skin tight made the young teen blush. Rei and Asuka were different though, as he had seen them plenty of times in their plug suits and was used to it by now. However, the blush disappeared the moment he noticed that her lack of insignia denoted that she was a mercenary. It was kind of odd that they would have to escort a mercenary of all people. Usually mercenaries are hired for escorting jobs, as they're more expendable than expert pilots.

"Y-Yes sir." Shinji replied meekly to the commander as he too headed for the door. He caught Wuth's look and smiled nervously, not entirely sure what to say to his fellow pilot. Knowing that they were to launch soon, the brown-haired teen made his way to the locker rooms to change into his plug suit and prepare to sortie.

Re: Nevada NERV/Fed Special Forces Base, the Desert Eagle's
Inside the locker, however, was a rather interesting sight. Two female pilots, with Federation markings on their skintight pilot suits (everyone loves skin tight @#%$ nowadays. D:) . One's suit was at her waist, her back turned to the boy, and the other was walking out of the shower. The one who walked out of the shower turned red and rushed back in, as the other one looked over her shoulder, her eye visible from her grey hair.

"... Pilot Ikari, is it? Good luck on your trip... Neece, stop acting like a child." She sighed, zipping up her suit, as she threw a red one over to her comerade, walking out. The other one quickly dressed, before stepping out and heading for the exit as well, looking down at her feet in emberassment as she walked by him.

"Well well well... wasn't that interesting, Mr. Ikari, is it?" That woman again... she walked into the locker room, pulling out a small card as she walked up to a locker. She swiped it into the keypad and hit a few keys, as it opened up. "I'm amazed they let children pilot now. Then again, Newtypes and other special variations in the average human are a brand new resource." She pulled out a small pistol, loading it and putting it on Safety, as she looked over to the boy.

"So, what makes you special? I'm amazed they let young boys like you go into mixed locker rooms... you'd think that your hormone-filled mind would go crazy at the sight of a young woman nude." Well, she's really good at first impressions, isn't she? D:

Re: Nevada NERV/Fed Special Forces Base, the Desert Eagle's
Shinji casually walked to the locker room in order to change to his plug suit, unsure what to think of the current mission given to both him and Wuth. The most mysterious, even quirkiest, part of this mission was not the mission itself, but rather the strange young woman they were supposed to escort. Naturally, it was hard to trust mercenaries, and this woman's odd personality made it even more difficult. She hardly seemed like a muscle-for-hire at all, given her rather outgoing and bubbly personality.

However, Shinji's thoughts about the mission were quickly interrupted upon entering the locker room. His blue eyes fell upon a half-naked young woman, causing blood to rush to his cheeks. For a moment, Shinji could only stare, blushing and unable to move out of embarrassment and fear. As soon as the next girl made herself known by walking out of the shower completely naked, Shinji yet out a yelp of surprise and turned around to prevent himself from seeing any more, holding his nose to prevent any blood from spurting out.

"A-Ah! S-Sorry! >\\\<" the young pilot tried to apologize, his voice sounding odd from his plugged nose. He could hear them finish getting dressed, only to watch them leave shortly after. Were they new pilots? If so, they didn't look like Eva pilots...

"O-Oh... it's you..." Shinji replied to the mercenary as she entered the locker room. He certainly hoped she wasn't going to get naked too; it'd be just too much for him to handle in one day. Sighing to himself, he moved over to his locker, which was only a few down from hers, and swiped his card, unlocking it. The young teen reached inside and grabbed his plug suit, but only held it in his hands. Shinji wasn't about to change with this strange woman around.

"It's a bit hard to explain why 'kids' are chosen to pilot the Eva; even I don't know. They seem to have some sort of system that picks out pilots... but other than that, I'm not really sure how it's determined."

Re: Nevada NERV/Fed Special Forces Base, the Desert Eagle's
"How bizzare... a system that picks children out to pilot death machines? ... I find myself fearing the Federation's antics latel-" The base shook, as the woman was knocked off her feet. "W-What the hell?!"

"All pilots, to their units! All pilots, to their units! We are under attack! I repeat, we are under attac- WAAAAAAAUUUGHHH!!" The secretary was cut short as an explosion erupted from her office. Outside the base, Mobile Suits were thrown around as their pilots tried to get inside them. In the air above the base was a large ship, and almost streaming from it were unidentifyable units.... including a large, humanoid monster...

"Jesus! Kid, we have to get out of here! Now!" Kris rushed for the door, loading her pistol... and s;amming right into it. She stumbled back a bit, before shaking her head and kicking at it. "... Dammit! Just dammit! It's jammed, the hallway must be in ruin-" She held a hand to her ear, looking up at the roof, as apparently she got a call from someone.

"What? You're shitting me. You aren't gonna`..." She turned around, looking at Shinji.. before tackling him. "Get down!" Right as they hit the ground, the outside wall was blown apart. The dust settled, and their apparent saviors could be seen...

The transport ship. Kris pulled herself and Shinji to their feet, grabing his arm, before pulling him along as she made a dash for the open door on the side. They were on the second floor... and it'd probably result in a broken leg or two if they fell.

"... Hold on. I'll go first..." The mercenary headed towards the opening, taking a few steps away from it... before running right for it, and jumping. A loud clank entered her ears as her feet hit the floor of the ship, and she turned around, grabbing onto the door's frame and gesturing Shinji to jump. "Come on, kid! We have to get out of here!" She looked out over the side of the ship, seeing a large, blue machine rise from the ground. Evangelion Unit 02.

It was now officially Hell on Earth.

The violent shaking of the base caused Shinji to stumble backwards, tripping over the bench behind him. The young teen fell backwards with a small gasp of surprise, hitting his head against the opposing lockers as he fell to the ground. Wincing in pain, Shinji rubbed the back of his head as an announcement of an attack was blaring over the PA system.

"W-What's goin o-" Shinji began as he got to his feet, only to be tackled by the mercenary. Everything happened so fast: an attack on the base, a tackle by a beautiful young mercenary, and an explosion at the door. Before Shinji knew it, Kris had pulled him up and leaped into a transport ship.

Shinji stood there, plug suit in hand, unsure of what to do. He was only an Evangelion pilot, not a soldier. Unlike the mercenary across from him, he was not trained to handle such situations. In many ways he was just a normal, teenage boy who happened to be able to pilot something extraordinary like an Evangelion.

Taking a few steps back, Shinji swallowed hard and forced his legs to move. He had to admit, he was scared wasn't sure what to do; his only guidance was Kris. The brown haired teen leaped into transport ship and landed next to Kris, stumbling a bit on his landing and grabbing her arm for balance.

"What the hell is going on here..?!" he asked, his voice slightly shaken.

"This is just the beginning of a war..." Kris quietly said, the door slamming shut automatically as the ship began to take off. She put a hand on Shinji's, gripping it tightly and biting her lip as the battle unveiled itself to them... MSs destroyed, unidentified mechas grabbing people, and that monster fighting the Evas. The engines fired up, and they were quickly out of the base and towards the Catapult.
