New Age Designs: A Sentinal Base(This is probably a week or so before the training island threads take place, that gives plenty of time for the government to ship out the droids and get them settled around the place. That sound ok Will? Of course I'm just posting this ahead of you being accepted, but meh XD... at least you know where you will start when Tony joins the board )
Finally, after all this time, things were starting to fall into place. Lydecker stood with folded arms, a fifty year old genius that looked as if no challenge would ever get in his way, a famous cybernetic mastermind. Right now it seemed as if he was a teenager, brimming with excitement, an air of fatherhood pride even seen as strong gray blue eyes peered down at the hundred NS-5 being checked over and expected carefully. Everyone was alive and things were buzzing, the new mechanical law enforcers were the next step in safety on the streets.
"My father was a police officer.. and my brother." The words from Lydecker caused his artificial companion to turn blazing crystal blue eyes over towards him, Sonny’s advanced design making him more human like then those who bore his exact appearance below. They were waiting for a renowned scientist, Tony Stark, someone who created suits of armor both for the government and his own personal use, such as the infamous body guard ‘Iron Man’. Of course few knew the truth that Stark was indeed one and the same, but the intellect behind the creation was impressive, and had Lydecker on edge hoping to hear the professional opinions, suggestions and any other outside advice or statements the brilliant younger man had to share.
"The NS-5 will help reduce deaths, children can grow up with their parents and people won’t have to worry about their brother’s and sisters returning home one night with half a leg missing." Because if an NS-5 was damaged, then they could be repaired, it would be harder to completely destroy an NS-5 beyond repair, as long as the brain wasn’t badly damaged it could always to placed in a fresh body. There was always a risk of casualty in wars of any kind though, Lydecker knew some of his precious droids would end up in the scrap pile. But not Sonny… if only one it was one that was more of a son to the Professor then any mere toy. "Remember Sonny, this Tony Stark is very respectable, your best behavior now." There was no doubt that etiquette would be all Sonny offered the guest of New Age Designs, NAD was highly classified and they rarely allowed outsiders to view their work but someone like Tony Stark himself was more then welcomed to offer his personal opinion. During Lydecker’s studies and building of the new law units they had used the invaluable suggestions from Starks experience on cybernetics.
"Of course Father, I look forward to meeting Mr Stark," The calm voice of the cybernetic being sounded friendly and humane, a pleasant perfection however also sounded too controlled and well toned to be considered an ordinary voice. Sonny’s metallic fingers unlatched from the railings as the elevator doors opened at the far right wall from where they stood on the bridge way running across from one end of the building to the other. The sub-basement was off limits to all unauthorized personnel and so since all the teams were busy with the Sentinel assessments it meant more likely the arrival of their guest. And most certainly that was the case, two guards and a female scientist all escorted the internationally acclaimed Mr Stark from the elevator and onto the walk way towards where Lydecker and his prized creation awaited.
"Ah, Mr Stark, it is most definitely a pleasure to finally meet you face to face." A pen was tucked away into the front pocket of Lydecker’s lab coat, the note pad he had been jotting down on tucked aside under his left elbow as his right hand reached out to shake the others. "I’m Professor Lydecker, welcome to NAD." Likely a greeting had already been offered by the others upon Stark’s arrival, but it never hurt to be polite and Lydecker was the perfect role model for human behavior, at least in Sonny’s eyes. The good Doctor, or Professor, depending which of the hard earned titles Lydecker was in the mood to use, was one who knew when to take things seriously and when not to, humor and foolery was just as much a part of humanity as kindness and sympathy. Lydecker was no angel, which made him so human, a smart-aleck, head strong, stubborn super genius could be just as hard to figure out as a top of the line cybernetic organism like Sonny.
All droids had been issued with brown eyes, it was decided later then they’d color code then depending on what line of law enforcement they were on, Green for the military, brown would remain for the street forces and perhaps green for ‘other’ assignments, but Lydecker refused to allow any other to be assigned with blue eyes like Sonny. After all, unlike all the other NS-5, Sonny did have a sense of self-awareness, he did like to be known for who he was upon being seen, he wanted to be recognized as an individual. Not that Sonny really said such things – but it was in him, Lydecker knew it because he had been the one who made sure Sonny had such feelings of free will and self-definition.
The complexities of Sonny were easier seen then most would expect, not just his detailed physique, but his expression, the strange features, so robotic and lifeless, yet alive at the same time. Lips which had been curved in a smile faulted enough for the air of disappointment to be noticed by any observer of the mechanical entity, who had hoped for an encounter with the well known Iron Man.
"Good evening sir," A man in a machine, could Sonny be blamed for wanting to meet such a thing? The gentle robot let the disheartened feel wash aside as the smile returned a little, the lights of the sub-level were mostly above them, on the walkways and walls, glinting on Sonny’s somewhat see-through armor. Mimicking his creator, Sonny held out his own right arm, poised for a hand shake as he spoke.
The invitation to impart any additional advice to a robot design group had seemed to come from no where but Anthony Stark had swiftly taken up the offer, an excuse to have a break from work and his company and any other problems he faced along the west coast of the U.S. He had delegated any important tasks to his juniors in his electronics company Stark Enterprises so he would not have to worry about anything but he had not left immediately, he needed to study what he was going to be meeting first.
It took him a week but he enjoyed reading the research of Professor Lydecker, the man responsible for the creation of the droids he was going to go and inspect, the NS-5 Law Enforcement Droid. When he first started reading about this new breed of Police Force some worries trawled through Stark’s mind, but they were quickly swept away when explanation of the three laws built into each droids programming came up early on in the initial summary of the NS-5 project. It had taken Tony a week to get through everything but he wanted to be prepared fully for the meeting, he would be meeting Lydecker in person along with the first complete battalion of NS-5’s and it would not do for his reputation to show up ignorant of the extensive work the older Professor had put into this remarkable project.
He had left at midmorning exactly a week after he had left Stark Enterprises in the hands of his trusted board of directors. His final destination was New York to meet with a second Professor, Charles Xavier and although news had reached him of the Professor’s illness he had decided to continue on to New York anyway, he hoped he could offer any assistance and hopefully meet with the Professor’s deputy, Jean Grey, who was currently running the school, plus it meant he could actually get a break away from everything that was happening at home, even people like Stark need breaks from time to time.
His jet had touched down late afternoon and the sun was slowly descending behind the building of New Age Design, the research and development company that was creating the new police force. His car had driven up outside the building as orange lines spread across the sky, giving the building a strange aura, as if this was the place where something major was taking place; and Stark knew that that was the truth.
The greetings Stark got where far more than he expected, awe-struck looks from junior researchers and programmers that were still milling about the building, obviously the ones that were going to be staying late into the night on their individual projects. Although he didn’t admit it, and was modest when spoken to he did slightly enjoy being looked at like that by others, being seen as a role model to many others; ironically he was going to be that younger awe-struck man when he met Lydecker.
A pair of guards and a scientist had escorted him to an elevator off of the main lobby where he was searched and then given clearance to enter the lift that would take him downwards to the storage and checking phase of the first batch of NS-5’s. As the tiny lift descended Tony made sure to straighten his suit and brush off any bits or marks he had gained on the journey and as the lift came to a halt and the doors opened, the form of Professor Lydecker stood a little back with one of the NS-5 models stood beside him.
As Tony exited the lift, the guards and scientist following, a professional but sincere smile crept across his face; already he was impressed with the NS-5 model, visually it seemed perfect, a merge of human and robotics; almost a literal metaphor for what Iron Man and Stark himself was.
"Ah, Mr Stark, it is most definitely a pleasure to finally meet you face to face. I’m Professor Lydecker, welcome to NAD." Tony held his smile and bowed his head slightly in gratification to Lydecker’s gracious welcome, gripping the older mans hand tightly he said, “The pleasure is all mine Professor, it is always good to meet someone who has a similar drive and goal to my own.” Before Stark could even comment on the NS-5 stood beside them it spoke "Good evening sir," Smiling a little wider and half glancing at Lydecker he gripped the artificial hand that the NS-5 had extended towards him shaking it lightly. “Good evening NS-5," Tony said releasing the robots hand, “it is just as much a pleasure to meet you.”
Stark turned to Lydecker already impressed, he had read that the robots would have a certain amount of etiquette and even emotional programming, but didn’t realise they would also be so self aware. Clapping his hands together he spoke with genuine eagerness “So Professor, where do we start? Already I have many questions, I didn’t realise this model was so personable.”
Re: New Age Designs: A Sentinal Base
As Tony previously addressed Lydecker there had been an air of what could almost be considered nervousness as Sonny wondered if Stark would actually take his hand or not, in most cases Sonny wasn’t too fazed by being ignored but some reason it seemed different with an outsider. Somewhere deep down Sonny was so eager to impress others, to show the people here that he wasn’t as much as waste as some rather bluntly stated.
“Good evening NS-5," Although not too bothered by the comment, since no one had introduced Sonny to Mr Stark, it started to sound peculiar when people called him NS-5. It was like Sonny going around addressing people as ‘human’ instead of their proper names. “it is just as much a pleasure to meet you.” A smile formed and the droid mimicked the gesture he had seen early by giving a slight bow of his head. It appeared that Stark was eager about the NS-5, something that Lydecker felt proud about, it was always great to see someone else enthused about your own work. “So Professor, where do we start? Already I have many questions, I didn’t realise this model was so personable.” The other female scientist who had escorted Stark eyed Sonny for a moment, waving the guards off dismissively so they could return to their posts.
"Ah yes, well I’ll confess that Sonny here isn’t the run of the mill NS-5. While the NS have so far been designed for military and law, I always dreamed of having them more personal, more family friendly." A hand rested on Sonny’s back as the droids creator talked, Lydecker’s expression wishful and happy.
"A million dollar nanny." There was pessimism in the voice of the dark haired woman, who smiled despite the comment which had Sonny tilting his head for her having brought up. "If you excuse me, I must be getting to work, pleasure to meet you Mr Stark." Lydecker cleared his throat slightly as she walked by him, offering a half-hearted smile and then shook his head a little to Sonny. It was always amazing, Lydecker could see how grateful people would be with his innovative ideas and yet they would put restrictions on his genius and then moan and groan when he didn’t follow their demands to the letter.
"I do not think she is having a good day." Sonny replied since the woman wasn’t so standoffish on a normal day, she one of Lydecker’s assistants so she knew about Sonny’s private modifications and half agreed that it was a waste of time and resources. The professor made a half laugh half scoff at the comment.
"Of course not, too many people are happy, surprised she’s not in hives." As far as stiff necks goes Lila, the assistant, was pretty stiff, but she was a brilliant scientist. It was at that comment (and Sonny’s rather baffled expression since medically other peoples joy shouldn’t cause allergies) when Lydecker realized he was leaving out their valuable guest. "Oh, forgive me, usually it’s just the two of us and I’m easily sidetrack. Now where were we?" The elder man, who more then a few people found strange due to his sometimes eccentric personality. "The NS-5, like all the NS series are uplinked to the Hive, the Hive is the first positronic brain I created which serves as a super powered computer and all that fancy jazz." There was a dismissive wave of his hand as he spoke, Lydecker had an issue with boasting about his own work to a point he was more uncomfortable talking about it then just modest.
"Professor Lydecker had modified the Mother-" Sonny started speaking, interrupted momentarily by Lydecker who informed Stark whom, or what, Mother was. "The Hive brain, also called Mother." The way Lydecker and Sonny talked in each other’s company was not one of master and servent, but of companions who knew the other well enough to speak for them with ease. "-Yes, and Mother is connected to every NS-5, constantly keeping watch and automatically sending out upgrades via the satellites we have orbiting Earth."
"Not to mention that if there is any sign of tempering with the systems, programming or hacking of any kind, an alert is signaled to Mother. If we deemed it necessary we could send commands, cause a shut down, of course NAD personal don’t have access to those controls, the security divisions from each individual company obtaining the NS-5 would have that control." There was a slight shrug, but obviously these fail safes had been an issue of some kind since there was a slight stress with how he was explaining them. "Everyone wants fail safes but no one wants anyone with any control. That aside, each droid has their own set of fail safes, not to mention the three laws."
"Law 1; A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm." Sonny began cheerfully recuiting, "Law 2; A robot must obey orders given to it by human beings except where orders would conflict with the first law." As Sonny spoke Lydecker caught one of the lab assistants slacking off down below, the younger worker distracted talking with one of his female co workers. Lydecker ripped a page from his note pad, the action causing Sonny to stare at the Professor’s hand as he scrunched up the sheet. A short pause was made between finishing the second law and continuing on the third one as Sonny watched curiously as the Professor tossed the balled paper at the below male who perplexed by the attack started looking around before noticing Lydecker’s stern look. "Law 3; A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the first or second law." Lydecker folded his arms as Sonny finished, pretty positive that Stark knew full well about the laws and all the basic things of the NS-5.
"That’s about the gist of it.. we could bore you like this for the rest of the day too, less there’s something more specific you want to know. Team should be done goofing around soon and then you can see the other kids up close and personal." It seemed pointless giving Stark the run down on something the other had probably more then just the snippets of info already.
Re: New Age Designs: A Sentinal Base"Ah yes, well I’ll confess that Sonny here isn’t the run of the mill NS-5. While the NS have so far been designed for military and law, I always dreamed of having them more personal, more family friendly"
This interested Stark, nothing he had read said anything about a ‘friendly’ model of this robot, but it seemed that this might be a one off; Sonny being the only creation of his kind by Lydecker. Although Stark didn’t think there would be a huge market for this friendlier version of the law enforcement droid, he did think that some of it’s emotional output might make them easier to merge into an active society. Logging the though in the back of his mind he was cut off before he could say anything by the female scientist that had escorted him to this underground meeting;
"A million dollar nanny. If you excuse me, I must be getting to work, pleasure to meet you Mr Stark!"
Tony smiled and nodded as the sleek woman drifted past him and Lydecker; followed intently by Sonny and as she disappeared from view he spoke; "I do not think she is having a good day."
Tony smiled widely, humour was something that was not easily programmed, bu it seemed that Lydecker had been able to develop something (maybe a recursive learning algorithm, he thought) that had allowed Sonny the privilege of deeper emotions that just simple pleasantries. Stark found himself getting more and more impressed, he knew that the NS-5’s that he was about to go and see would just be the standard model; the ones he had read about, probably not up to Sonny’s complexity, but just seeing the loyal robot in action made him want to go and see the others working as they should.
"Of course not, too many people are happy, surprised she’s not in hives." Stark chuckled, he saw where Sonny was learning his humour from, and he expected working closely with people like the other scientist could cause some friction when they don’t exactly agree with their bosses ideas. "Oh, forgive me, usually it’s just the two of us and I’m easily sidetrack. Now where were we? The NS-5, like all the NS series are uplinked to the Hive, the Hive is the first positronic brain I created which serves as a super powered computer and all that fancy jazz."
Stark was astounded but kept silent as he listened. Not only had this man created an amazing droid design which had gone into main manufacturing; created his own version of the model with further sophisticated programming but he had linked them all together with a server that had its own artificial intelligence. Stark had been in the industry all his life and he had never met someone who alone had given so much to the world with his gift for robotics. Sonny continued:
"Professor Lydecker had modified the Mother-" Sonny spoke "The Hive brain, also called Mother." Lydecker interupted "-Yes, and Mother is connected to every NS-5, constantly keeping watch and automatically sending out upgrades via the satellites we have orbiting Earth."
"Not to mention that if there is any sign of tempering with the systems, programming or hacking of any kind, an alert is signaled to Mother. If we deemed it necessary we could send commands, cause a shut down, of course NAD personal don’t have access to those controls, the security divisions from each individual company obtaining the NS-5 would have that control. Everyone wants fail safes but no one wants anyone with any control. That aside, each droid has their own set of fail safes, not to mention the three laws."
Stark stood in awe as he assimilated all the information that Lydecker was throwing his way, he watched as man and machine work in complete unison, completing sentences; expanding with further information. Tony smiled a little, as soon as he got into his armour and became Ironman he became another physical example of man and machine working in perfect fluidity, but what he watched was different. This was more like a close family, and he felt a little like he was intruding on them; an emotional connection as well as a physical one.
Stark was half listening as Sonny began to recite the laws of his and the other NS-5 programming, still in admiration of Lydeckers amazing work and effort to create such a perfect specimen of AI;
“Law 1; A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm. Law 2; A robot must obey orders given to it by human beings except where orders would conflict with the first law. Law 3; A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the first or second law."
"That’s about the gist of it.. we could bore you like this for the rest of the day too, less there’s something more specific you want to know. Team should be done goofing around soon and then you can see the other kids up close and personal."
Tony was snapped out of his reverie by Lydecker’s comments, he had barely heard Sonny’s recital, it didn’t matter so much he knew the laws by heart anyway, all the literature he had been sent before his arrival made constant referrals to the laws and so anyone doing any research on them would clearly see the safeguards Lydecker had installed to ensure his creations would not turn on their parent race.
Smiling he spoke: “Oh no, I can’t wait to get down there and see the completed droids. I don’t suppose there will be any chance of a demonstration of their full abilites.” Turning to Sonny his smile turned to a slight grin, “Not that you are not proof enough of how perfectly your, uh, father, has performed.”
Re: New Age Designs: A Sentinal Base
“Oh no, I can’t wait to get down there and see the completed droids. I don’t suppose there will be any chance of a demonstration of their full abilities.” Perhaps, Lydecker mused thoughtfully, I can think of a few pigheaded fools we could invite to take part in the demonstration.. Another wicked thought tickled his mischievous side, but the Professor kept it to himself. No point in getting into more trouble then he already was.. poor Sonny was already suffering for Lydecker’s previous actions. “Not that you are not proof enough of how perfectly your, uh, father, has performed.” The comment came as a surprise to both of them, only Lydecker’s assistant ever referred to Lydecker as Sonny’s father. The smile which formed on Sonny’s features showed how important it was to hear such personal comments. Though admittedly the droid had to wonder if Mr Stark would have felt the same if he knew the truth, that unlike all the machines he was about to see, Sonny was able disobey a direct order. Up until now no one had found out, Lydecker knew what problems that information would cause, people wouldn’t understand how important it was for Sonny to have choices if he was to grow beyond his programming. A dream Lydecker knew was so possible, because he was seeing glimpses of the first steps every day, and Sonny wasn’t a threat, he was too kind and thoughtful to cause reckless harm.
"Praise you deserve my boy!" Lydecker remarked with a gleeful grin towards Sonny, "Now come on, let’s show him the other kids." An eager turn and brisk walk towards the far end of the bridge, leaving Sonny to make a gesture for Stalk to follow them away from the direction of elevator he had arrived in. "Grab me a soda if ya could Son." It was more of a pet name still instead of a birthright title, hinting where Sonny’s name may have come from, simply an affectionate pet name that was later taken to heart. The Scotland born scientist had no shyness about his fondness towards the creations he hand made, in fact he felt repulsed by anyone who mistreated their creations, even if it was just a run of the mill device with no sentient abilities.
Sonny followed Lydecker down the stairs to the ground floor, but at the request he paused and spoke happily enough at the request, "Very well," and then turned about and made his way back up the stairs towards one of the offices, they all had fridges which were stocked and anyone was allowed to take things from them. "Would you care for a refreshment Tony Stark?" At the top of the stairs Sonny realized that he didn’t know if Stark would want something, usually no one wanted anything so he tended to skip asking the same question which just got the same answers.
"Oh, Stark will be offered refreshments in a moment Sonny, you know how I am with coffee." With a smile Sonny nodded at Lydecker who spoke, continuing on his way to get his creator a drink, leaving the inventor with Stark as he added; "I can never sleep when I drink that blasted stuff." After that he began snapping his fingers for the attention of everyone on the floor. Another assistant arriving to ask if there was anything Stark wanted or if he was ok. "I want everyone to clear the area, Squad one, report to the testing area please for a demonstration. Time to show off ya stuff boys." Unlike Sonny the droids standing in perfect formation remained emotionless, despite looking exactly like Sonny in every point aside one simple fact… all their eyes were an amber brown. The blue eyed droid descended the stairs swiftly and smoothly with a can and glass in his hands, pouring a drink for the brilliant scientist who designed and created him and so many more other things… sometimes Sonny couldn’t understand why people didn’t respect the good man more, not understanding some people around here preferred a more professional approach, while Lydecker was free spirited, and his personality was gruff and at times rude, at least to those he didn’t like. The Professor was honest, and at times it was to a fault, which got him in trouble with people who wanted him to spin stories about their progress even if things weren’t going as planned or problems arose, he wouldn’t lie and they didn’t like that.
In the testing area on the same floor, a handful of the assembled droids moved in synchronized motions towards the sealed off bay, heading in through a door which closed after the ten of them entered. A large glass wall enabled people to see inside, it was like a finely created obstacle course… and by the looks of it if it was ever a TV show the name ‘The Doom Zone’ was probably exactly what the corny script writers would call it. And it fit the name perfectly, weaponry was visible scattered throughout the area, both on the ceiling, walls and floor. It looked as if a preparation was set up just for Stark’s arrival, but it was obvious that the room was put to good use in exploring the strengths and weaknesses of the droids. The far back of the room had the face of a building, red brick work and even curtains were added for the fun of the realism effect, at Lydecker’s request of course. At a window was young woman, late twenties and wearing jeans and a yellow top, she waved at them from the window to signal she was ready. Over her top was a secured chest plate for added security, hinting that something rather dangerous was organized.
"Betty there’s insisted on showing you how well they can secure a person, or group, who is under heavy gun fire, or in danger of being wounded in some way. I suggested we just show you their Bata testing we recorded, but she’s a stubborn lass that one." Lydecker shook his head a little but had a lopsided smile, Sonny watched her with a puzzled expression for a moment.
"Why is she waving her arm? The simulation has yet to start, is she in trouble?" Raising a brow at the comment, Lydecker chuckled slightly as he shook his head again. "No, no, that there’s a ‘Hey, over there’, just another way of saying hello from afar." Lydecker replied, and Sonny made something that highly resembled an ‘ah’ before he raised his arm and mimicked her waving.
For the next twenty minutes the scenario of an innocent caught in a war zone was played out, live fire shooting up the stage and controlled explosion eating away the foundations of the prop building Assistant Betty was taking cover in. The droids effortlessly crossed the field, but were ordered not to take out the weapons so Stark could see how they handled victims in open fire. Armed with the only standard issued defense shield, the high quality and durable tools can expand to three times their compact length, making them the size of almost an average person. Lydecker explained the benefits of the machines, all standard issued equipment which will be assigned to each droid and if permitted on wide scale to all law enforcers. The extra expense limited nation wide dispersal and only allowed a few of the more advanced and well funded departments to obtain a limited supply of the high tech shields. Their ability to absorb laser / energy fire as well as withstand low to medium grade armor piercing ammo, not the cheapest of items to make, and budget tight concerns of above average wealth officials kept red lighting ideal improvements offered.
The droids were all programmed with various formations that allowed them to protect the innocent from open fire to the highest degree possible. Not to mention other effection formations dependant on other situations, with the AI intelligence allowing them to learn, adapt and had access to information to all sources across the world regarding combat intelligence and the like. Lydecker also explained the defects of the system once Betty had been safely delivered across the room. They followed through with protecting human innocents but they lacked the affection to stop for a child’s pet, even if the child ran into the danger zone most droids tended to assess the situation and pick up the child, leaving the distraught youth’s pet behind in order to ensure the child’s safety wasn’t endangered. The droids began showing their agility, strengths and combat styles by avoiding damage and getting into small fights with each other. Their lighting reflexes snapping at each other and Lydecker continued explaining all the highlights of the technology, their skills, adaptability and nonfatal way of handling and de-capacitating criminals.
"Pappa!" A young 10 year old girl sounded hopefully as she called form the stairs, the voice forcing Lydecker to stop in mid-sentence while explaining their lifespans and known problems such as EMP shock waves that – at a certain high enough power – had the ability to overload their systems. Lydecker glanced at his watch with a regrettable expression of guilt setting in that his young daughter knew all to well. "You promised it wouldn’t be so long, I’ve finished all my homework and I’m bored. If Sonny and I don’t start baking the desserts won’t be ready for when mom comes and the dinner will be ruined without nice desserts!" Protested the long reddish blonde haired girl as she seemed to reprimand the brilliant scientist who, by all likelihood, got too engrossed into his work and often lost track of time.
"I’m sorry dear, you’re quite right." The professor replied with a grin, most of which came from the amusement of her telling him off – so much like her mother. "Go on then, you two go have fun, and make sure you forget whatever you’re mother said and prepare something full of grease and cholesterol for dinner." Sonny glanced at the Professor and then looked towards Tony Stark with a polite ‘Farewell’ to the two of them and then rushing off in a brisk walk up the stairs to accompany Sara Lydecker to her fathers pent house on the higher floors of the building. Really it was a large office but the entire floor, along with another one below it, had been refurbished to allow residency to a selected handful of workers who spent most of their time there. While Sara looked easily young enough to be Lydecker’s granddaughter, the hard working inventor was locked away for so long that by the time he bumped into a woman and eventually married her he was already in his forties.
"Anyway," Lydecker continued as he cleared his throat, "As I was saying, they’re also resistant to magnetic waves, does boggle them up a little but their outer structure is made of an alloy that doesn’t become magnetized. All we have to worry about is the effects it has on the positronic brain itself, which will depend on the duration and strength of the magnetic field the droid is exposed to. Heat and ice resistant to extreme degrees, and all commands and authorization codes used to order the droids are recorded and sent to the Hive. Wouldn’t be the first time someone in power decides to abuse it and so we wanted to make sure there’s a record of who says what. Last thing we want are our droids used to fight alongside the very people they’re out there to catch." Lydecker finished up, waving his fingers towards Sara and Sonny as the two left the secured area. Usually it was prohibited for the family members to have any access to secured areas, but Lydecker did all his work in his lab, which was also located in his penthouse and so whatever he worked on his family was already well aware of it. Seemed rather pointless at times to cut them out of things and upset the Professor when it wasn’t like they were keeping any secrets from them anyway. If it wasn’t a project their husband or father was working on that was another matter, but in this case it was so the daughter was allowed free access every now and then. "Anything else you’d like to discuss, any other details or questions?"
