New Member - Need Help
Hi, I am a new member on this board, however, my daughter has been seeing Dr. Foster since 2005. I have decided to seek out the support of this board in order to learn how to best cope and help my daughter with her vision impairment. She has had Uveitis since 2 and eventually lost the vision in her left eye due to glaucoma from the steriod drops she needed to treat her inflammation. She is a beautiful 22 years old now and is having a major flare in her right eye (her only eye with vision) which has dramatically affected her ability to see, drive etc. She continues to tell me that she is "over it" and that she is "done" and I don't know how to help her with this or the eventual loss of her sight if it happens. I don't know where else to turn for support so hoping someone here can give me some advice. Her dad and I feel so helpless.

Support
Lapsmom, welcome to the group!

It saddens me that your daughter has had to undergo this ordeal and I am also saddened that you have done all you can yet your daughter has lost significant vision to her lifelong uveitis. We are here to help you in any way we can. The general discussion forum would be the best place to post since your daughter is now an adult. but you can also post to the Parent's forum as they know exactly how you feel.
Did she have Juvenile Ideopathic Arthritis? I hope that she will post here as well since many of us have lost vision to uveitis and we do know what thoughts enter the mind from time to time.

Wishing you the very best,
Mike Bartolatz

Re: Support
Thanks for the welcome Mike. She has had Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis since she was 2. I wish she would post here, but she is not ready to. I am happy that she has also found another "support" board for people with vision impairment or that are blind. I am hoping that is the first step in her dealing or coping with everything. I will check out the general forum. I just want to be able to learn how to cope myself as well as help her through a very difficult and traumatic time.

Re: Support
Coping can be a very had thing to accomplish for us.
depression can also occur along with vision loss so please watch out for it in both you and your daughter and seek help should it rear it's ugly head. we go into a state of mourning when one of our senses is diminished.
we can help you through this so please join in in any forum that you wish as all are open for everyone to participate in.

wishing you some relief from the stess that goes along with this. Please know that you are doing everthing in your power to help your daughter and that you are not Alone.

Take care,
Mike
